Tank Assembly Problems of Ford Contour - part 1

The fuel tank strap is completely corroded away, and the fuel tank is ready to fall off. The protective coating is defective and has completely fallen off, causing the fuel strap to be eaten away by rust and corrosion. The fuel tank is going to fall off eventually. The fuel filler neck and emission fittings at the tank, are corroding badly too.

The contact owns a 1999 Ford Contour. While adding fuel to the fuel tank, gasoline began leaking. A technician concluded that the fuel tank seal caused the exhaust system hose to melt. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired . The failure and current mileages were 150,000.

Was filling up my fuel tank and just as the pump clicked off gasoline started pouring out from the top of the tank and it still does it everytime I fill it up I am very concerned because it is a severe fire hazard please help me out.

Fuel spit-back while refueling. Took to Ford dealership and since the extended coverage for the fuel pipe flapper valve expired 5 months ago they will not repair. Ford wants $300 to repair. My car only has approximately 88,800 miles and I do not have $300 to repair. I called Ford in michigan and they said the same thing and emphasized the importance of taking car to Ford dealership for repairs. I took car to Ford in mississippi in 2002 and no mention of recall was made. Ford, in my opinion, seems to be of the mind "do not fix it if it is not broke". Well it is broke now and if coverage expired 5 months ago that is not a long period of time and Ford should pay for the repair of the fuel pipe flapper valve as they know it is defective. When I get gas the fuel spills on the ground causing harm to my family, passengers in the car, the general public and myself.

The contact owns a 1999 Ford Contour. The vehicle stalls and makes a lot of noise during acceleration. The overhead lights and other interior lighting will not dim when the vehicle is turned off. The contact must remove the bulbs to dim the lights. When the key is inserted in the ignition, the ignition switch locks up. A mechanic stated that the front sway bar was leaking and the brakes, rotors, and struts were corroded and needed to be replaced. The purchase date and powertrain were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 100,000.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Contour. The current mileage was 134,112. The failure mileage was 114,112. While driving 70mph the vehicle hesitated a few times and then the engine died. The vehicle was restarted after 15 minutes. The dealer stated the fuel tank had failed. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number 00v350000 (fuel system, other: storage: tank assembly).

: the contact stated that the vehicle's gas tank strap detached on 07/01/06. A strap was observed hanging from under the vehicle while parked. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop who determined that the right hand fuel tank assembly strap had become detached. The independent repair shop contacted the dealer who contacted the manufacturer to order fuel tank assembly strap. The manufacturer determined that the fuel tank assembly strap was on back order and that there was not a specific date when the part would arrive.

Recall 00v350000: fuel grommet leakage is for bi-fuel cars (contours) and my vehicle was at the mechanics and I am having the same issue but my vehicle is not a bi-fuel vehicle. While I was have my vehicle worked on I asked to check the fuel because as I store my vehicle in the garage for the winter I noticed a gasoline smell. The mechanic told me there was a recall and I contacted 2 Ford dealers and Ford itself and was informed that this vehicle is not on the recall. The is a very serious issue and should be included in the recall as it is the same specific information on the recall but not for my vehicle.

Fuel tank warpage - plastic fuel tank can warp causing fuel to fail to feed. Because usable fuel quantity is unkown, engine can stall at unpredictable instances. Replaced fuel tank & pump/sender assembly.

The consumer noticed while filling up at the gas station, when he returned to the vehicle a fuel odor was coming inside the vents. Gasoline was leaking from the filler neck onto the ground. Fuel was leaking on the ground due to a crack in seams of gas tank. Consumer is concerned that a fire can start. Dealer found leak at fuel tank and replaced. Consumer feels fuel tank is defective.

The fuel gauge needle floated erratically. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a defective fuel flow meter inside the fuel tank.

Your #00v350000 I have experienced the problem with me Ford Contour for 2 years Ford refuses to fix because they only cover the problem up to 100,000 miles. It takes me up to 25 minutes to fill my gas tank because of this problem. I have had one gas station attendant ask me not to fuel at his station until I get it fixed. I don't have the extra money to fix. $300. 00 plus. It is a faulty part why is it not fixed?.

Work was previously performed on consumer's vehicle for recall 99v247000. Consumer is now having the problem of fuel leaking when he fills fuel tank. Dealership informed him that recall work has been performed already, and it was now consumer's responsibility. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

More often than not, when I put gas in my car, the car kicks the pump off at least twice, sometimes more than that. A few days ago, I became fed up because it stopped and spewed gasoline back onto me, ruining my pants. This has happened more times than I care to count. I put 25, but it is just an estimate. I am worried that it will spew more than just a little gas next time.

Consumer has experienced fuel spillage, dealer has replaced a canister, fuel neck, filler neck assembly, however problems still occur, consumer states pump automatically stops and fuel gushes out, dealer stated possibly the filler neck is defective due to they have a tendency to stick resulting in fuel spills.

Fuel tank is defective, it leaks gas and fumes. Dealer will not warranty part.

Unable to fill gas tank without gas overflow, or gas feedback, shutting off fuel nozzle. Attempted to turn fuel nozzle, in every position to no avail. Called a Ford dealership and they said no recall, just a service bulletin. This is dangerous and frust.

Consumer filled tank with gas and after paying and coming back ou noticed gas was spilling all over the ground. It continued to leak for 3 hours. Dealer found a crack in fuel tank. Consumer had to get replace whole assembly at his cost.

The part for this car is back ordered as of today no part available. Car is not operative. Backorder is who nation and canada. Paying for a vehicle that you can't even use. No safety defect listed in summary.

While driving and without warning air bag light illuminated on dashboard. Minutes later, light went off. Dealer has been notified; however, mechanic can not duplicate the problem. Consumer adds with full tank of gas, fuel light is illuminated.

Was at a service station. Thought that they haven't turned on the pump, and realized that vehicle was not accepting any more gas. Fuel gauge was reading like it was a full tank. Contacted manufacturer. Took it to a local mechanic who said that there may be a problem with the fuel gauge.

Vehicle was parked for about 5 minutes and fire started inside vehicle towards the rear, and went through the front. Inspector cannot determine the cause of the fire. Please provide further information.

Problem with refueling, the internal pressure was causing the fuel pump nozzle to disengage.

Have had numerous problems: interior/brake lights failed to light. Replaced switch twice. Fuel filler door will not open with latch inside. Never worked. Cigarette lighter failed. Power window on driver's side has failed. Car intermittently will not start due to drained battery. Mechanic could find no cause for this related to alternator/charging system of car. Never able to fix this. Trunk leaks water around seal. Abs light keeps coming on . Mechanic could find no problem with abs. Air conditioner/heater would only blow out defrost setting. Also bad smell comes from ac when on. Rear seat belts keep jamming; not able to use sometimes because they won't come out. Worst problem so far: transmission has failed. Not yet fixed. I loved this car once, now I hate it! the whole thing should be recalled.

While driving at any speed and when applying the brakes, they are not hard but medium. When driving over any speed bump there is a very loud noise coming from the back of the vehicle by the fuel tank.

Gas tank failed since ownership, gas leaking with fumes entering vehicle.
