1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2025

While driving the air bag symbol and wrench appears on the dash, car starts losing power, and when shifting gears there's a hard shift and clunking noise. Videos on youtube show many people with the same issue some say it's a sensor issue. Output shaft speed sensor and turbine speed sensor.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2024

# 1. Brakes - there is a known brake issue with these vehicles. The brakes started making a loud hissing noise and we were almost unable to stop the vehicle and ended up in the middle of an intersection. This could have caused an accident and needs to be recalled. There was no warning, messages, or signs before this happened. These are the parts the repair shop and Ford dealership said needed to be replaced: power brake booster, hydraulic control unit, and master cylinder. #2 - transmission - the car began to shake when trying to climb up a small hill and it also started to shake on the interstate. There were no warnings or messages that appeared.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2022

I am frustrated with this car. I have had it for a year and nothing but issues, I was experencing where I would go to start the car and the car would not turn over I could sit and try for about 5 minutes and it would turn over. I learned if I pounded on the dash it started. Also when I am driving at any all the warning lights on the dash board light up and the spedometer and rpms stop working and the computer part states no data. Some times it stays on for a while some times it goes off immediately, another rememdy is I will lightly tab the dash and the lights come back on. When I purchased this vehicle a transmission was just put in and now not even a year later it is shifting hard and driving very bad. From looking over the internet this seems to be a common issue. Why are they not putting out an recall. Shame on Ford for this issue.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2021

The ptu have a severe problem and the computer didn't warn for this problem until the car just stop getting out of the freeway, slowing down and making loud noises under also stop complity at the street and a car behind me almost crashed in my back, I tried to switch from drive to park and didn't move then I tried the reverse and make a loud sound then I put in drive and star advancing very slowly and with loud noise, finally I got home and smoke staring coming in the front driver side and the smell was a burning rubber. After I got out and let the car to cool down I tried to drive in reverse but the reverse didn't work, only from drive and l gear, I parked my car with the front end facing my home, I can't drive it it all.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2021

Driving down the road and all of a sudden my brake pedal got real spongy and then sounded like air blowing through lines. Barely got home with minimal brake usage. I was driving on lee road luckily not too far from my home. Also fog lights don't work. Not sure if it's a switch related problem or something else. It also feels like the transmission is acting up like the car doesn't want to go especially in reverse without really getting on the pedal. And it rolls backwards on hills like it's a manual transmission.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2021

The vehicle the 2007 Ford Edge shut off on the highway without warning after I turn it back on the gas seemed like it was in passing cuz the car started sputtering like hesitating and then shut off again. When I kept trying to turn the vehicle on unsuccessfully it would crank but not turn over and then I smelled something burning like wires rubber wires something to that effect and it sound like it was it smell like it was coming from under the hood. . . About three days later my brake lights went out and burned straight to the plastic around the bulb.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2021

I have replaced the ptu in my 07 Ford Edge a few years back that the dealership themselves told me there should have been a recall on it because of the poor design for $500. Now I am having to replace the power brake booster because I would be driving and hear a hissing noise when braking or my brakes would get really firm. Which I was told that the original owner could have replaced free of charge not as a recall, but something else. That is now going to cost $900. 00. I drive kids that I have had pretty important things fail that Ford never recalled and it really makes me consider investing in another Ford ever again. If safety issues aren't enough to recall. And it took them years to replace the air bags.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, the vehicle began to shake. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park the vehicle and restarted the vehicle, but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle to local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission valve to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93. 804.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2020

Vehicle in motion on city road when vehicle all of a sudden makes loud/hard clank noise and immediately loses power - almost like it started towing a trailer! loss of power, wrench light, tps light, airbag light all come on, speedometer stops working. Pulled over, loud/hard clank sound with every gear change p-2. Vehicle had displayed no issues prior to this. Dropped vehicle off at mechanic, when he looked at it next morning, vehicle is running perfect. I am greatly concerned about what appears to be a huge safety issue with this car. There are multiple complaints about the same issue to be found all over the internet with no fixes known. Ford needs to issue a recall and fix this ASAP before someone gets seriously hurt or is killed from the extreme loss of power the vehicle is suffering from when this happens.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2020

While driving my vehicle lost all power and I immediately tried to pull out of the main path of traffic. I had it towed to a transmission shop to determine cause. It is the transmission. I replaced it with a used unit from a similar vehicle, of which I have encountered a similar issues. A replacement of this unit is also producing a problem. It is now at the Ford dealer's garage and I am told it is a transmission. Problem. This vehicle has 75k miles and I have maintained it to the comply with Ford's specs. But, three transmissions in a short period of time. . . Something is not right???.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2020

Driving down the road I noticed my speed at 0 my odometer at 0. . . Thought that was weird. Noticed wrench light, engine light, and airbag light. Came to a stop light and stopped. Upon takeoff was nearly rear ended because I was barely creeping. . Rpms stayed around 2k-3k. . . . . Pulled it into a parking lot and switched gears. . . . Loud clangs and jerks as I'm shifting. Turned off car and restarted to have the same lights and same clanks as I'm shifting. I pull out of the parking lot since I'm a mile away from home and even though I pulled out with plenty of time I was almost tboned. Got it home and shut it down. I have around 255,000 miles on it. Oils changed. Maintenance upkeep and everything. This all happened on city streets, while in motion and sitting still. I seriously dont understand how Ford is allowed to overlook this and not be held responsible for fixing these very well known issues that are a hazard to drivers. . . . Not just to myself but to others around me as well. There are way too many complaints on this issue for it not to be taken care of.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2020

Took to local Ford dealer (hondru Ford) for shudder/jerking between 40/60 mph , the issue could not be duplicated by the dealer but it continues to be a problem. From my online research there are other complaints regarding the same issues. The Ford Edge is serviced routinely ,oil change etc.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2020

Ford Edge loud clunk when put into gear an when in gear you have to put it to the floor to get the car to move an really high rpm. Dash lights will come on flash an act all crazy. Faster to walk cuz the car won't go. Will do it at a stop or just random going down the road. Have to get off the road quick or it will stop I the middle of the road.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. The contact stated while attempting to accelerate, there was an abnormal humming sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the vehicle would not immediately accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. On several occasions, the transmission failed to shift into the proper gear, causing the vehicle to stall. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated in limp mode. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 225,000.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2019

Vehicle was in motion for awhile, car was running okay until I came to a stoplight and then all of a sudden my car goes limp. My vehicle makes loud/hard clank noise. Loss of power, wrench light came on. Pulled over, loud/hard clank sound with every gear change p-2. Vehicle had displayed no issues prior to this. I am able to pull the car over, turn it off and take they key out of the ignition. Then the wrench light is off when I restart the car. Stays in low gear for a long time when I start to accelerate, and until vehicle eventually accelerates faster, other cars almost running into the back of my car since my car is not accelerating at a normal pace. I am greatly concerned about what appears to be a huge safety issue with this car. There are multiple complaints about the same issue to be found all over the internet. Ford needs to issue a recall and fix this ASAP before someone gets seriously hurt or is killed from the extreme loss of power the vehicle is suffering from when this occurs!.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2019

The wrench light and airbag lights were on. My speedometer wasn't working. Transmission was clunking. The powertrain (wrench) & service engine signals come on after experiencing loss of speed such as after a traffic light stop. We have to push down far on the gas pedal just to move and this is followed by rough shifting (makes a sudden jerk and loud thud sound). Everything goes back to normal for awhile when the vehicle is turned off; its like the car resets itself.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at vaouris speeds without warning the vehicle interior vent fill up with oder(smoke) the contact would have to veer to the shoulder of the road open the windows let the oder out. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission seal was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. However, the failure recurred multiple times. The dealer (berglund Ford 834 e main st, salem, va 24153 (540) 389-7291) was contacted about the failure and informed the contact that no recall was under the VIN. The manufacturer was made ware of the failure and informed the contact to place a complaint with NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. Ck.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

Ford states that the ptu has a lifetime oil and does not need changed yet the unit is located so close to exhaust that the oil turns to sludge, there is no plug to check fluid conditions there is no way to flush and or refill. The only solution is to replace the ptu but how do you know how much damage to the transmission was caused? no one knows because its supposedly a lifetime oil and the dangerous heating conditions of the placement of the ptu heats the oil useless and the causes damage to the transmission. Depending on the amount of damage assessed upon removal, you may need to replace the entire transmission. I do not have any documentation attached because I have poured so much money into trying to isolate and diagnose I now cant afford to have this very expensive problem fixed. This has a poor design and should be replaced by the manufacture.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2018

Lost power while driving at 65 mph. Speedometer stopped working, warning lights -picture of wrench light, tire pressure came on. Said data ------ failure. It was terrifying. Made it to a parking lot. Turned off care & let it sit a few minutes. Restarted and it was back to normal. My research on line says it's the powertrain module. Lots of complaints for the same issue with Ford 2007 Edge - should have been a recall. I have 96,000 miles on it and it's well maintained.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle completely shut off and the odometer error reading warning indicator illuminated. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road and called a tow company. Once the tow truck arrived, the vehicle was able to be restarted; however, the vehicle stalled while in operation. The tow truck followed the contact until she was able to reach her destination. Mankato Ford (1935 madison Ave, mankato, mn 56001, 507-387-3454) was contacted and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2018

While stopped when going to accelerate the transmission feels like it's not working the vehicle wraps the speedometer the mile which doesn't work speed doesn't work airbag lights are on wrench light is on tire light is on rpm stay at 2k the vehicle will barely move.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2018

2007 Ford Edge. History: regular scheduled maintenance performed always, garage kept, taken well care of. Mileage at this time is 145k. ***driving along (in town) when I noticed the Edge was idling really low (note: 2 weeks after scheduled oil change, inspection and new battery)-all of a sudden heard this terrible clanking noise. It sounded like the whole car was falling apart. I pulled over in to a parking lot, shut the car off. Tried to crank it again and it wouldn't crank-finally did after several tries (still making this terrible sound). * warning lights, no fluctuating in gages---nothing. We had the Edge towed to our Ford dealership and were told the water pump went bad and the engine was destroyed. Our oil was full of water/coolant--it looked like muddy water. What? how? no warning, no signs? after much research we are finding that the water pump is inside the engine, therefore if the water pump "goes" there are no external signs of leakage---it's kindly leaking in to your engine and destroying it. This literally happened in a matter of minutes. Yes, this is safety issue--it left me stranded and now I'm without a vehicle for another week or so while a new engine is being ordered an installed. I can't believe Ford hasn't addressed this "design" issue with all the complaints I've read thus far. This deserves a recall and at the very least it deserves Ford's attention to be redesigned. Research also shows this is not just a Ford Edge problem---it's other Ford makes as well. This is now an $8000 "fix". Please have this looked in to on the consumer's behalf.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2018

Driving car on city streets and all of sudden the wrench light, low tire light and airbag light came on then the became sluggish as if it was going to cut off. The car was hard to pull to the side of the road. The it makes a hard thug/grinding noise when putting in gear. Ford states it needs a oss (output speed sensor).

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2018

We have a 2007 Ford Edge my wife was driving on the freeway, she was approaching her exit when the vehicle shut off completely. Thank god she could pull over and after several attempts to start the car again, she succeeded. This happened about 6 months ago. About 3 or 4 months later, she was pulling into a parking lot of a store when the vehicle shut off again without a warning. She got stuck in the middle of the lane blocking all traffic. A few minutes later it started again seemingly without any problem. Until two weeks ago, she was driving down the street and the car shut off for the third time. And for the last week, the car has problems starting. It cranks for a few seconds like it has no fuel then starts. Today's date 9/3/2018.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. While driving various speeds, the vehicle hard shifted. The contact stated that the vehicle lunged forward while stationary and suffered a loss of power or engine stalling on more than one occasion. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the power control module and the ignition coils failed and caused a cylinder misfire. In addition, the ignition coils melted. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2017

Takata recall. It's been almost 2 years that we have been trying to get the airbag parts and no replacement. This is our only vehicle and it is a great inconvenience. We need a loaner car until the parts are available.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2017

Dash lights all day on, speed odometer quit and car wouldn't accelerate. Going down the highway at 65 miles an hour. Gears grinding when trying the put in drive. Powertrain wrench light will never t go off. All this and still owe $6000 on car at 90000 miles.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2017

You leaking, had to have replaced at my expense. Was discovered during oil change. Have seen numerous reports of this issue on Ford forums. Should this be a recall since affecting so many vehicles.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2017

When driving on a highway in heavy rain this occurs (3 times now) odometer display changes odo data error message the odometer shows only dashed lines for milage the speedometer goes to zero the seat belt light goes on a wrench light appears after a few miles: the tire pressure signal sounds and the display changes to tire pressure monitor failure after stopping: if attempt to go forward, high revs slow speed turn off engine: wait 2 minutes: restart engine display corrects itself high revs with low speed a loud clang and the car takes off quickly, due to high revs.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2017

Persistent smell when driving and then found dark "oil" spots that spread throughout under side of the vehicle and on my garage floor after being parked. Brought to Ford dealership: ptu failure is what we are being told. Very costly repair/replacement charge of ptu assembly, approximately $1500. I'm putting in this complaint because I have seen many, many complaints of other people experiencing similar issue with this make, model and year. Please consider investigating, and if this happened to someone else please put in your complaint so it will go to investigation, thank you!.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2016

During left turns engine rpm's drop and brake pedal softens and fluctuates. City streets . . Left turns.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

Defective power control module on Ford from these years causes engine to stall, run poorly and cause electrical problems affecting the steering, brakes and transmission. This extremely common Ford defect can create a potentially deadly vehicle control failure at highway speed.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2016

2014 my 2007 Ford Edge jerked and reduced in speed while trying to go uphill in morning rush hour traffic less than 25 mph. I pulled to the shoulder turned the vehicle off then back on & it was good for the remainder of the day- this happened more than once so I took my vehicle to my authorized mechanic (of over 17 years) within a week of that incident & they replaced some component associated with the transmission. The car worked fine for a little over 18 months. 2016 it has happened again with the same issue same as before in morning rush hour traffic except with the jerk & auto deacceleration there was a loud *bump as if someone rear-ended me. I pulled off to the shoulder turned off the vehicle then back on & it did fine for about 5 minutes then it happened a 2nd time so again I pull off to the shoulder turn off the vehicle then back on & it is fine-almost as if the vehicle resets when your turn it off then back on. I took the car to my mechanic, the owner is who usually diagnosis my car is on vacation out of the country--ugh. After explaining the incident one mechanic test drives it for a couple mins then says the transmission is no good and needs to be replaced. Considering this vehicle is garaged, & very well maintained on a regular basis I opted for a second opinion, especially since there is no check engine lights, odor, smoke, leakage or anything that indicates something is wrong with the transmissmisaion. Just the jerk with deacceleration & maybe hesitation when trying to accelerate during this incident. The second shop's diagnostics came back showing no issues with the transmission nothing. To you Ford I say I've watched youtube videos & read similar complaints, obviously a recall is needed, please watch youtube and do more research regarding your product that is affecting your customer base.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2016

Power train issue while driving on interstate 55mph vehicle suddenly decreased in speed without warning. Wrench came on and car hesistated to pick up speed again, fortunately car behind me didnt ra. Tried to accelerate but couldnt. Just hit 90,000 mileage. Was not notified of a pt recall. Took car in for diagnosis and informed power train fault to lower acceration issue call dealership. Same failure listed for recall. Car also started to vibrate and now the wrench light comes and goes randomly, shifting goes in and out randomly as well. I have a copy of my diagnosis from mechanic shop, no ability to upload it. I can fax it.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2016
