The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. While driving below 2,000 rpms, the steering was uncontrollable and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power train module needed to be replaced. The repair was not made. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. While driving 10 mph, the vehicle lunged forward and hesitated to accelerate. In addition, while making a left turn, the traction light illuminated without warning. The vehicle was taken to be repaired, but the dealer could not diagnose the issue. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 92,000.
While driving on a freeway suddenly a pungent smell filled the cabin and that was unbearable along with a huge cracking sound that didn't stop. . . Took the next exit and stopped at a parking spot. Took to the Ford dealer the same day and they diagnosed immediately that the ptu needs to be replaced and that's a know issue where almost all the Ford Edges of 2007 and 08 have the ptu issue. The smell is from the oil that leaked from the ptu which fell on the exhaust. Paid around $1800 to replace the ptu. I am wondering why there is no recall as it seem to happen for most of the Edges. Called the Ford corporate customer care to report the issue and they didn't care to listen and asked to deal with the local dealers. Didn't expect this from Ford and I would request NHTSA odi team to look into this issue and flag this as recall as this could create a serious crash when it happens on a freeway as it could slow down the vehicle suddenly and think about the condition of the infants who could inhale the gases. I literally had issue inhaling for next couple of days as the smell was that bad when it leaked.
My 2007 Edge started to emit a foul smell every time I stepped on the brakes. It would smell like something was burning and a couple of times I pulled off the road to double check and make sure that the car was not on fire. I took the car into a Ford dealer to have the fuel tank recall competed since they finally came in and they noticed a leak in the ptu and that it would need to be replaced and would cost over $1350 to be replaced and installed. The part alone is over $800. Ford has had at least 3 service bulletin for this issue and still refuses to take responsibility for fixing this safety issue.
One morning my Ford started running rough. A rough idol. Shaking in the body. The check engine light started blinking. I took it to a mechanic that morning to check the computer. The mechanic stated it read as a bank one miss fire. I replaced the bank one coil and spark plug from the mechanic. The car still drove rough. I was on my way to the the dealer the next day, three or four miles away ,when the car shut down on the highway between two busy exits. I lost power and control of the vehicle. Thanks to the state police, I was pushed to a safer location. I was towed to the dealer from there. I wasn't told the power-train module needed replacement until after all the coils and spark plugs were replaced two days later.
Transaxle not holding vehicle stationary when stopped on a hill in drive without service brake applied. The vehicle will backward (won't hold).
Since I purchased vehicle, will be driving and all of a sudden no power, car does not die out. It is still running, but you cannot go anywhere, wrench light comes on. It's done it at random, deal never finds issue. It is now happening every day and will throw a throttle body code, same issue as with other Fords. Complaints are all over the internet, dealership has told me they've seen it with almost all Ford Edges. It is the throttle body needing to be recalled. There is a Ford TSB on other models of Ford with the same exact issue. This can cause a fatal accident as the car just stops accelerating so it slows down quickly. The only resolution is to shut it off and restart it. This also clears the code so that's why it's hard to troubleshoot at the dealer. Ford needs to step up and do something before someone is killed. I just don't drive on the highway any longer because I'm afraid of being rear ended at high speeds because of negligence on Ford's part.
2007 Ford Edge looses power. Speedometer goes to 0. Exclamation mark, air bag and tool light comes on. Motor revs up to high rpm. I understand this is a sensor issue with this particular vehicle. And it is a very common happening with this vehicle. With the vehicle shutting down without any indication that it is about to happen. This happens at highway speeds as well as in town speeds. I think Ford should investigate this issue and issue a recall. Thank you.
A few weeks ago, I noticed there was a noise coming from somewhere that sounded like a wheel bearing, I took it to a few places to have it checked out. They came up with different things, finally I got to the right place and they figured out that it was the ptu. They said the seal had leaked all the oil out and destroyed the bearings. You don't know the oil is leaking out as it goes into the exhaust and evaporates. They were able to find me a used one that they went through and found it to be good. Cost was $1,800 to replace. As I understand, Ford has covered up this problem for many years. I have seen many similar problems in the complaint section for Edges and nothing has been done. I think Ford should be made to re-imburst all complaints with this problem. I am on a fixed income an this unexpected expense kept us from our vacation to visit our family in pennsylvania and I am very upset.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. While the vehicle was idling, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The wrench warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 136,400.
When the car is stopped on an incline, if you let off the brakes the car will roll backwards and when you give it gas the transmission jerks real loud into gear.
Highway speed the car suddenly slowed down. Speedometer dropped to zero, information panel went blank, powertrain malfunction/reduced power light came on, airbag front light came on. Pulled car to shoulder as soon as possible and shut key off. Restarted car and everything appeared normal except car had very little power to move until about 10 mph was reached when a hard transmission shift put car into gear and all became fully operational. This happened three times in a one week period of time, always at highway speeds. Subsequent research by independent mechanic indicated this a common problem requiring replacement of two speed sensors in transmission at cost of $629. 00.
The ptu is overheating and spilling out the breather tube.
At a stop, the car would not accelerate, loud clunking sound, airbag light turned on. Would not move, had to completelt turn off car for a few seconds, only moved a few feet before it did again. Next day same problem.
Car sat un-driven in garage for 9 days. When car was taken out and driven, the car would not move forward. Speed shown car going 55 miles and hour but it was not moving. Put car in reverse and it would move. Put car in drive and low gears and car would move forward very slowly. Car had to be towed to the dealership. Dealership stated only fix was to replace the transmission. Meaning a lot of money had to be spent to fix the car. This is a very clean car and taken in for regular turn-ups, with low miles for the age of the car. There was no indication of anything being wrong with the transmission prior to this incident. According to reports, Ford has had many issues with the transmissions. Ford needs to take the stand and take care of this problem, before there area any fatalities.
Generally, shortly after starting the vehicle sometimes I would come to a stop, and when I attempted to go the engine would rev but the car would not move. It was like it was in neutral, and there is an orange wrench that lights up on my dashboard. When placing the car back into park there would be a hard shift on the engine. After turning the car off for a few seconds and restarting, it would work like normal. It does it very sporadically, sometimes once every couple months sometimes a couple times a week. It seems very random. Today it did it to me while I was driving down the road at 40mph. It was the first time it had done this while I was driving. When it happened there was a sputter from the engine, like a hard shift, and then I noticed the orange wrench light came on and it felt like it was in neutral. I have taken it to get checked but the mechanics cannot duplicate the problem and there are no error codes that come up. My research online says that it seems to be a common problem with the power transfer units seals leaking, but I would think that problem would cause the car to not work when restarted. Not to mention the other symptoms of a leak, including smell, are not present. The other solution commonly mentioned is replacing sensors, but then a lot of those reviews say they end up replacing so many sensors and then it still happens.
2007 Edge sel, on the instrument panel an "odo data error" appeared. The "wrench and airbag" lights were lit up as well. Hard clunk shifting into drive, car had no power ran rpm higher started to slowly roll. Turned off car, unconnected battery cable, connected back and started up instrument panel read out was now correct and put into drive and it did a few hard shifts as we drove out, but ran fine all the way home. I see many others stating this same thing! I will take this in again as I had already taken for hard shifts, but they found nothing. This time looks like oss and tss from all the reading I have done on this issue.
I was turning a corner slowly when the car halted abruptly and slid slightly on the gravel road. I was surprised and got out of the car and observed the front driver side wheel was askew and not mounted onto the car. The ball joint was broken totally apart. The axle was broken, I had not hit anything in the road. The roadway was clear. The front driver side ball joint and axle had broken apart. The car had to be towed to a garage. The Ford garage said there was no manufacturer recall on the ball joint. This event could have resulted in serious injury or death. I feel fortunate to be uninjured but I want this event noted because I have seen that you investigated the Ford Edge 2007 for this failure in 2009. Please reopen this investigation.
Will be driving along at any speed and car will not accelerate, it does not stall but wrench light comes on and you can't do anything until you shut off the car and restart it. This has happened numerous times and hasn't caused an accident yet, but most certainly will eventually. This problem is well known, but is phrased as stalling when it truly doesn't stall, accelerator just doesn't work and car slows down quickly in traffic.
Vehicle would not accelerate after stopping at busy intersection. After shifting from park to drive it begin to move at slow speed. Ver dangerous due to amount traffic. Replaced turbine shaft speed sensor and output shaft speed sensor by Ford dealer.
My 16 year old daughter was driving to school. She was in a 45 mile per hour zone. A car pulled out in front of her so she let off of the gas. When she pushed on the gas again her car would not go. The rpms went way up but the car wouldn't go. The wrench (check engine light) came on. She was able to pull to the side of the road. She turned the car off and it made one loud pop/puff noise. Once she turned the car back on it was fine. This has since happened three more times. When I looked on the internet it appears this is a common problem with the Ford Edge. This is a huge concern to me. There needs to be a recall to address this problem as there could be serious accidents as a result of Ford's negligence. They know it is a problem, make them fix it before someone is injured or killed.
While driving approximately 35 mph and slowing down, the car suddenly jerked forward like someone rear ended me. Parked the car and tested next day, same result. Made appointment with local Ford service department. They pulled codes p0720 and p0722 and followed TSB 07-21-11. Did not fix problem. Replaced output speed sensor and turbine speed sensor. Problem still exists after bill of $1145. 31 and now car will only drive in 1st and 2nd gear so it is almost useless.
Driving down interstate highway, speedometer drops to zero then dash lights all come on. Get off highway pull over and car does not move. Wait about 20 minutes, put car in d, hear loud bang, car lunges forward a little then drives normally. Second time it happened was on highway at @60mph when same thing happens, get off highway and stop at 2nd red light when the car does not move at all. Let car sit for @10 min. Then it starts going @10mph, after about 1 mile resumes normal operation. Have brought to local Ford dealer and had 2 sensors replaced along with a transmission fluid exchange but now today it happened again when I stopped at busy back road intersection then tried to resume speed the veh. Would not move. E-mailed local Ford dealer to let them know that issue was happening once again after sensors were replaced. Prior to Ford also had sears look at veh. Where they determined it was a sensor but could not determine which one. Now that the vehicle is back to me it also seems to have alot of hesitation on wanting to go. This vehicle has never seemed to be the best transmission and I have a big concern about how many other people have similar issues with this vehicle. I wonder what would happen to somebody who keeps driving it without getting off the road? I am concerned for the safety of my family, myself, others who own this vehicle, and others on the roadway around these vehicles when there is a problem. The posts I keep seeing all reflect the same issue and all too often they are told that they cannot find anything wrong with the vehicle, will it take a major accident or death for this concern to be addressed? a vehicle should not keep stopping or producing loud bangs after it stops moving and I think there appears to be enough evidence from enough people who have voiced their issues with this problem to warrant immediate action on this matter.
2007 Ford Edge. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle transmission problems. The consumer stated on June 25, 2014, the vehicle was towed to the dealer to diagnose an issue that had occurred on more than one occasion. It was determined by the dealer, the transmission needed to be replaced. The consumer stated the first time she noticed a problem, occurred while driving in heavy stop-and-go-traffic in the center lane. All of a sudden, the rpm's dropped to zero and the vehicle abruptly stopped. She placed the vehicle in park and luckily it started. It ran a bit sluggishly for a few miles and then resumed to normal operation. The consumer stated the incident happened a second time.
Pulling out into traffic and experienced very harsh shifting. The transmission shuttered and shook, almost refusing to go through the intersection.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall for the power train. The vehicle was diagnosed, but not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The NHTSA campaign number was unknown. The failure mileage was 127,000.
I noticed when I get to about 40 miles per hour my car doesnt want to shift into next gear. Took to a Ford dealership and was told it was ptu valve. Cost to fix is 1350. 00.
The transmission feels like it is in neutral. It jerks like someone has ran into your vehicle with their vehicle. Several warning lights come on. Speedometer goes to zero. If you come to a stop, you may not get going again. Had this checked out and replaced a sensor costing me $425. 00 and less than 2 weeks later, problem occurs again. Had this checked out and now they are hollering another sensor has went bad and this one is going to cost $600. 00. Did not have this one fixed!! also had to have vehicle towed home one time costing even more money. . . .
Ptu unit developed a leak, was nearly empty of oil by the time the dealer could repair. Dealer says ptu needs to be replaced for ~$1600. This seems to be an extremely common problem. This should be repaired under recall.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. The contact stated that extreme pressure had to be applied to the accelerator pedal in order for the vehicle to respond. Additionally, the vehicle would exhibit an abnormal noise when in reverse or changing gears. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97000.
Stopping vehicle then taking off vehicle will not move engine just revs then a very hard shift and it moves had sensor in transmission replaced 3 times due to same problem now when cold vehicle up shifts very hard once it warmed up shifts fine.
After driving approximately 20 miles at an average speed of 45 mph I exited off a very busy highway (exit 1, rte. 93n in new hampshire). Upon slowing, I felt a skip and the car became unresponsive to my attempt to accelerate to complete the exit . An odometer error appeared on my dash along with the airbag warning light and the repair wrench symbol. If I had been traveling on the open highway in the kind of traffic I was experiencing, I probably would have been in a high speed accident. After shutting down the engine for 30 minutes, I restarted my vehicle and returned home without incident. This incident occurred without warning. To date my Edge has been very reliable. I have enjoyed the Edge's performance; but, I am very disappointed that this problem has occurred to numerous other Edge owners. I am hoping this apparent defect is resolved and a recall is initiated before someone is seriously injured.
When driving the transmission shift violently from 1st into 2nd gear and when I'm driving at highway speeds and have to hit the brakes suddenly then speed back up the violent shifting happens again. There is also a shutter in the transmission while driving.
Oil leaking from ptu unit Ford wants $ 1600 to fix what seems to be a faulty (defective) system in Ford Edges.
Driving at low speeds the vehicle will shift very hard, feels like someone rear ending me. The transmission feels like it has a hard time getting into gear. At high speeds the same thing happens but usually on hot days. The transmission finally gave out at 75000 due to the hard slamming and had to be rebuilt. I was leaving a driveway and was unable to accelerate, putting me at risk of being hit from behind. This could have been disastrous at high speeds. At 78000 miles I am still having the same problem, I turn the vehicle on the the transmission slams into r and then I cannot accelerate past 10 mph. I turn the vehicle off and restart it, and it seems like nothing every happened. This happens intermittently and the check engine lights come one only every once in a while while it is happening. Worried about me and my babies safety while driving.
