I was driving to the mall and all of a sudden I could barely press on the brakes. It was extremely difficult to press the brake pedal. I heard hissing sounds like air releasing. I took it to a mechanic and he said the brake booster was going out and this is a world wide problem with Ford Edges. I have yet to have it fixed as the part is extremely expensive.
My brakes started off feeling very stiff, then would sink into floor while making a hissing sound. Often barely stopping. When stopped with my foot on the brake the engine will start sputtering like it is going to shut off, when I let off the brake it will run fine. There were no warning or indications that there was a problem and I have nearly wrecked multiple times. I contacted the local Ford service department and was informed that they have fixed this same problem in several of the Ford Edge suvs and that it would cost between $600 and $700 to repair. If so many people are having the same issue why has Ford not put out a recall on this?.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. The contact stated that when depressing the brake pedal, the pedal sank to the floorboard and made a loud hissing sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician stated that the brake booster, fuel line, gasoline storage, and auxiliary tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. While driving at various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the driver abs ring was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000. Ma 08/06/15.
I was driving and the brakes are stiff and I could not stop. I have nearly wrecked 3 times now apparently due to a faulty brake booster. This seems to be a known problem but I don't know why only the 2010 to 2013 models have the extended warranty for the brake boosters. This is ridiculous to not have any warning my brakes are out. Especially since Ford is aware of the issue.
Power booster leaking. Seems to bea problem with this model.
A couple years ago, experienced problems with my braking system. I was driving down a road and coming up to a light. Upon braking, the peddle was very, very stiff and hard to depress, the car shuddered a bit and braking seemed compromised. . . I almost felt like the car would not stop in time to avoid sliding into the car in front of me. I used an inordinate amount of pressure to finally get the car to stop. I was near home at the time so I continued the last couple miles to the house, being careful to drive very conservatively and to engage the brake much sooner than usual to make certain I had enough room to stop the car. Took the car the next day to a local repair shop. . . After diagnosis I was told that the brake power booster was at fault and needed to be replaced. Repair was approximately $580, if memory serves. I was unhappy at the time of course but, until I researched my recent transmission issues, did not realize that this was yet another problem that many other Edge owners have experienced. I also did not realize that I could register a complaint via NHTSA until recently or I would have submitted this complaint when the brake power booster required replacement. But again, like the transmission issues (NHTSA #10874656), it seems like this is a common problem that affects Ford Edges to an inordinate degree and should be investigated by NHTSA as a potential recall. This does not seem like a regular, expected 'wear and tear' maintenance issue but rather a defect that should be addressed by the manufacturer, not the consumer.
Took my vehicle in early for service at sunrise because was concerned about loud screeching noise on brakes and erratic behavior of vehicle -surging. When driving. When the service tech (troy) opened the hood he asked em to get out of the vehicle and stand back, as the top of the battery was spattered with black oil looking material and apparently he and another technician were concerned it might rupture or explode. They asked em to get out of the vehicle, give them the keys and that they would check the vehicle and asked me to wait. About 90 minutes later they came out and said all was fine, nothing wrong with battery or brakes. I left and drove vehicle home and same problems were occuring, I returned and after calling and saying same things were occuring. I had hped to speak to frank wilson, who was an amazing service supervisor, but he was not there and another man who was rude claimed the battery was still under warranty but that it was normal to have oily sludge on the battery . He said it was "normal, because it was just sweating". He resfused to do anything. . Said the brakes needed to be at 3 before Ford would replace them. I asked that he contact Ford corporate and inquire. He said, "no he would not" the battery I should add since I have owned the vehicle has been repeatedly replaced. I have limited driving the vehicle, except for short local trips, and tonight the vehicle would not start and aaa claimed the battery was defective and clearly dead. It is most disturbing when Ford misrepresents their warranty and refused to acknolwedge defects that have been published in their won alerts. Seriously dangerous! there are numerous postings of other Ford Edge owners having these problems. Please investigate their questionable protocols on dangers that are known with their vehicles.
This has now happened to me twice with both my small children in the car while on the highway, at highway speeds. T he speedometer went to 0, the maintenance wrench display lit up, along with the error message "tire pressure monitor fault" (or something to that effect) and I was unable after stopping at a stop light to accelerate almost causing the person behind me to rear end me. Once getting to my home when putting the car into park it makes a loud clunking noise then proceeds to jerk the entire vehicle. After letting the car sit for an hour I tried to turn it one once again and test driving a few feet forward, it only moved at a slow pace when gas pedal applied.
The break booster failed making the vehicle very slow to respond to stopping. Had the need for a emergency stop occurred there would have been an accident. I am told by the mechanic that repaired the vehicle that this part rarely fails and not in a vehicle with so few miles relative to the part.
I have a 2008 Ford Edge sel. When turning on my left blinker it was blinking rapidly which I knew indicated a light was out. I found that it was my driver side rear blinker/tail light. I went to the store and purchased the bulb. When I got home to replace it I found that I could not remove the bulb as the socket has melted. I searched online and found that this is common for this type of vehicle.
I was driving my vehicle and apply brakes and the vehicle would not stop. The brakes pedal became lock and the vehicle speed up and I hit the curb and bounce to other side and hit curb again then the vehicle stop. Thank god nobody was coming and I was not injure.
Brakes started to make a scraping sound. When brakes were applied, the vehicle would not stop without slamming on the brakes throwing passengers forward. It appeared that the brakes were not depressing properly and were pumped up. We happened to have a schedule annual inspection with our mechanic and he informed us that the brake booster appeared to be the issue. We took it to the Ford dealership and they confirmed the brake booster needed replacement. After researching this, I noticed that this was an issue with the 2007 Ford Edge. Shouldn't there be a recall? I have owned Ford vehicles for the past 25 years and have never even heard of a brake booster issue until now. This could be very dangerous and is quite expense to replace ($691. 00).
Breaks fade, become mushy, pedal goes to the floor. Does not stop at lights sometimes causing me to put in park while moving.
Went through intersection standing on brake pedal, would not stop, left side wheels locked up. Slid on blacktop 2+ car lengths to oncoming traffic shoulder, 2 more car lengths on gravel. Told by repair shop abs unit not working properly. Could not explain why power went to wheels on the right while driving down road. Was 60,000 and 4 years old. Now 6 1/2 and 67,000 miles, still stuck with it.
My wife was driving the vehicle and upon acceleration from a complete stop, the vehicle randomly would go into a "neutral-like" state. Rpms would increase dramatically, but the car would crawl between 3-5mph. The message, "od read error" would display on the dashboard, power steering would go out and brakes would not respond well (it was as if the car had turned off). When shifting from drive to park or reverse, the vehicle would jerk forward violently, as if rear-ended. Once the car was turned off and started again, the problem would go away. We brought the vehicle to the dealership multiple times and the dealership even determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. This was only at 37,600 miles. The dealer said it was a transmission issue, but it appears to be an on-board computer issue as well. After transmission was replaced, 5 weeks later had issue with shifting into first gear. Vehicle shifted very hard into first gear. Car is back down at the dealership again. Wrote a letter to Ford expressing my concern and requested the car be repurchased, they denied my request.
Defective front brake rotors: inside of brake rotors were severely corroded and large pieces of the rotor surfaces were flaking off. Vehicle mileage was only 35,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge limited. The contact was reversing from a residential driveway when she discovered that in order to stop the vehicle, the brakes would have to be applied abruptly. Later, while driving approximately 30 mph, the brakes where engaged and the vehicle would not stop and the vehicle proceeded through a red traffic light. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where she was advised that the brake booster would need replacing. The contact was awaiting repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 37,200.
Sitting at red light , foot on brake, my 2009 Ford Edge with less than 9000 miles accelerates on its own sending me into the car in front, her into the intersection avoid her I turn, my car will not stop I put it park, still will not stop, put on emergency brake, finally stops. Much trauma ensues including other driver going to hospital, physical pain and anxiety on my part ,answering police questions, etc. I still have no car as I will not drive that death trap and it still sits at the dealership. They have not been much help. I am having to fight Ford motor CO. And that is a nightmare. They have jerked me around, delayed their responses and I guess wish I would go away. I have done research and now know that this is not the first time this has happened. I t is called unintended acceleration and they know it is real ! I am now working with an attorney but it never should have come to this. I simply asked that they cancel our lease with no financial penalty, and let me work with my dealer on getting a safe car. Is there no justice for me ?.
The brakes felt as if there is air in the lines. The pedal would start to brake as normal, but then move slight forward as if air in the lines. This gives you a feeling of pushing harder. We had taken to the dealer more than 3 times. The last time they kept the car for a week or so. No problem was found. Ford headquarters could not find a reason to the issue. I am reporting this as I saw in the news that Ford is having the same problem with other type of cars.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. While driving 30 mph, the contact noticed that it took a significant amount of time to stop the vehicle. He did not notice any differences in the vehicle beforehand and the dealer has not diagnosed the cause of the failure. The current and failure mileages were 5,600. Updated 07/10/08. Updated.
