While driving down the highway, my 2011 Ford Edge lost all acceleration and the awd warning light came on with the lighted symbol of a wrench. I was almost rear ended by several cars before I could make it side of road. I had to shut vehicle completely down and restart. This problem continued for several more times. Ford needs to address this problem before several people get killed.
Saturday June 4, I was driving along city street at 50kph, when the vehicle lost power, the wrench and "awd off" illuminated. It was still running, limping along at 5kph max. Put on flashers and pulled to side of the road, put transmission into neutral and tried rev'ing the engine, no response, but engine was still running. Googled the problem, which suggested turning the vehicle off and on. Looks like everything reset and vehicle operated normally. Several hours later, I was on major (4 lane) city street, travelling at 80kph, when same problem occurred. Put on flashers and coasted to side of the road, turned vehicle of/on, and continued to home. Dealer could not duplicate and diagnose the problem. I suggesting they dig further and maybe check the internet. . . . . Throttle body might be the problem. The vehicle has 80,000 km and is out of extended warranty by 6 months. After 3 days in the shop, the dealer technician suggested maybe the throttle body. I'm currently waiting on dealer to receive part. I called Ford customer care and they are providing a rental, and are expediting the part as well as offering a reduced cost. This is a serious safety issue and needs to be documented.
Driving down the interstate at 60mph the car displays a wrench-shaped light in the instrument cluster and goes into "limp home mode," very dangerous as your driving in rush hour traffic. I had cars flying past me in both the fast lane and slow lanes that would not let me over to get to the far right. This was probably one of the scariest things I had ever experienced! going from 60 to less than 5 mph in a blip second with no warning. I was able to get to the side of the road, and shut the vehicle off and restart it and everything seemed okay. Went home to do research and everything pointed to the throttle body there are hundreds of posts from Ford Edge owners with this exact same issue Ford was forced to recall other models but for some reason the Edge was not included, we cleaned the throttle body with throttle body cleaner, however it really did not look very bad. After cleaning the throttle body, I drove the vehicle for a test and did not get more than 5 miles and the same issue occurred this time I was ready and only going 40, however I was on the back road with no where to pull over. I had to shut the car off in middle of the road and restart it, however that time I put the code scanner in before restarting the vehicle. One code was picked up 'p2111" - throttle body failure. I can not believe Ford has not recalled the Edge's for this issue, there are several hundred complaints on this site all for the same issue. I currently am unable to drive the car because it won't go more than 5 miles at a time when the wrench shows up as well as a safety issue with the inability to accelerate. Called Ford on 6/7/2016 to order a new throttle body. Ford indicated that there is a backorder on this part they currently have 7000 people on the waiting list. First expected to ship 6/30/2016.
The car stops working when you're driving it then have to pull over the side of the road and to the 4 wheel drive light comes on and the wrench light comes on and from what I'm reading it's a throttle body problem.
Traveling at 55mph, lost thrttle control, yellow wrench icon appeared. Was able to pull over. Engine was still running. Turned off engine, and resarted. Everything was normal on way back home. Car still parked, haven't been to dealer shop yet.
While driving at approx. 45 mph, the awd off light appeared, than a wrench appeared. I could no longer accelerate and coasted over to the side of the road. I turned my car off. I restarted my car and continued driving. I am glad I wasn't on a business road and was able to get to the side of the road safely. I hope somebody doesn't have to die before they acknowledge this issue.
Twice while driving the vehicle over 50 mph, on a main road, it lost power and the wrench light turned on. The vehicle coasted to a stop and after a few minutes was able to be restarted.
While driving the powertrain error code (wrench icon) pops up and my cars loses all acceleration. I'm forced to try to get to the shoulder of the road while coasting and then once stopped if I take my key out and reinsert and start the car everything is fine. Ford dealer cannot find any errors with the vehicle and this has happened multiple times. This is a major safety concern to unexpectedly lose all engine power while at high speed on freeways or even side roads without a shoulder. There are lots of people with the same issue posting the same problems.
Vehicle failed NJ state inspection twice for "not ready" conditions. There's a known issue recall 13e04 - pcm configuration error with computer issue dtc p160a reoccurring and our VIN is not covered under this first recall although every issue is the same as VIN specific recalls.
I left my house in the morning on 11/6 and after a short drive the "awd off" and a "little wrench" light came on and the car lost power and just stopped in the middle of the street since I was trying to go up a hill. Thankfully no one was behind me!! it started to run very rough so I turned it off quickly, waited a few seconds and restarted it. The car then ran ok and got me to work and home again but when my husband took it to run an errand that night, same thing happened to him and then again this morning when I was bringing the car down for service. This was three times in one day! with no warning the car just loses power and stops. Very dangerous!! I'm afraid to drive my car now and I don't want to be on the highway and have this happen - someone is going to get hurt. The dealer cannot duplicate the problem or find a code coming up to reveal the issue.
While driving the car will suddenly lose power ( not accelerate ). The wrench light will come on. You must try to safely coast to side of road and turn ignition off and restart. This happens intermittently and is very dangerous in heavy traffic and at higher speeds. This has occurred on interstate highway and city driving. Dangerous also when there is not enough room to pull off road safely. We have taken car to Ford dealership but they cannot find problem. We have noted on the internet that a lot of other Ford Edge drivers are also having this issue. I would think that Ford motor company would be aware of this problem. I would hope that this issue will be addressed before someone is seriously injured or killed. This has happened 6 times from 11/30/2015. It also happened over a year ago 4-5 times and Ford could not find problem. Thank you.
My husband and I were driving home (going approximately 40 mph) with our 2 year old and all of the sudden the car lost power. It did not die but wouldn't go over 5 mph. Thankfully, we were close to home and not on a busy highway. If we had been on a busy highway I do believe it would have cause an accident and that terrifies me since this is our primary family vehicle. I have read that Ford extended the warranty for this issue but was not made to issue a recall. Unfortunately, Ford inc's "customer satisfaction program" for this issue expired in January 2015 so now I will be out the money to fix this extremely dangerous issue. Ford motor company should be made to issue a recall to fix this issue before it kills someone.
This is the second report I have made about this issue. The first was on/about set. 26, 2015. When I was driving, the car in motion, the power train malfunction indicator (a wrench) comes on, the car loses all power, goes down to perhaps 2 miles per hour, and then stops. It feels as though the power steering also goes out. When the car stops, it shakes and jerks. You cannot accelerate. I turn the motor off and then on, "resetting" the indicator (per the Ford dealership). And the issue stops. It has happened again today, oct. 23rd. Twice (in the morning and again this afternoon). I called sam galloway Ford in fort myers, FL and was told to bring it in on Nov. 4th. Again, today is oct. 23. I was told, by danielle (service advisor), that "since it is not happening all the time it was fine to wait" until Nov. 4, 2015. I am afraid to drive this car this is a safety issue for me, anyone I have in the car, and other drivers. Are you going to wait until someone gets killed because of this issue? I am on busy roads when this happens. Why don't you do something????.
My car will cut off randomly while driving down a city street at around 40 miles per hour. It has also happened while in a drive through while idling with foot on brake.
Last week, while my wife was driving our 2011 Ford Edge sport with 41,000 miles at 65mph on a busy chicago highway, the message center pinged, "awd off" message appeared, then a picture of a wrench appeared. The car then lost all power, including steering. Luckily, she was able to coast to the shoulder without causing a major accident and turn the car off. After a couple of minutes, she started the car and all appeared fine. Not being sure of what just happened, we took the car to the Ford dealership for inspection. $200. 00 later, they told us that a brake pedal connector was loose and that was most likely the cause. A week later the exact same thing happened, again while she was traveling on a busy chicago area highway at 65mph. After pulling over, turning the car off, and calming herself down, she started driving to get off of the highway. After about 10 minutes it happened again. This time she pulled over and called me. I met her and I drove the car to the Ford dealership. While I was driving, it happened three more times. However, I noticed that it appeared that if I kept the car under 40mph, it would run without recurrence. When I arrived at the Ford dealership, they were able to read the computer code. This time they told me it was code p2111 and that the throttle body actuator control was stuck open and that the throttle body and motor assembly needed to be replaced. $800. 00 later, the repairs were completed. The evening we dropped the car off at the dealership, while doing some research on the internet, I learned that this appears to be a known issue with a "customer satisfaction program" to address being put in place. Unfortunately, my Ford dealership service advisor told me that they knew nothing of this when we picked the car up the next day. Having been through this, I can say I am quite surprised there are no deaths associated with this dangerous issue.
At 4 separate times my vehicle suddenly and without warning had a total loss of power at highway speeds during rush hour traffic. I was forced to coast to the right side of the road and on to the shoulder with other vehicles all around me going 70 mph. I stopped the vehicle and restarted it. It hesitated, but did start again, and then drove fine 10 minutes before doing the exact same thing again! I took it to the Ford dealership and they person at the desk knew what it was right away without even looking at the car: the throttle body. This is apparently a very common problem with these vehicles, and Ford has already issued an extended warranty for other cars with a similar problem. For the Edge, however, I am being forced to pay $600 to repair it or risk my life by continuing to drive it as it is. Ford knows about this problem. They have even redesigned the part. They should be forced to recall the part before somebody gets hurt (or worse) because of their mistake!.
While driving on interstate 75 in kentucky, my 2011 Ford Edge lost power, with violent shuddering and no acceleration. Managed to move from the middle lane to the emergency lane. Shut off Edge and restarted, everything returned to normal. Today, Aug, 12 the exact same occurance happened again, other than speed all conditions were the same. Ford dealer said it could possibly be the throttle body but could not diagnose until it happens again and vehicle is not shut off and taken directly to them. This is an extremely unsafe incident to have happen on the interstate at 70 mph, this should be a recall.
About 2-3 weeks ago, while driving in the outer banks, nc, I had a sudden loss of power in the vehicle and an yellow wrench sign came. Luckily, I was able to pull off the road and shut the car off. Once restarted, it worked ok. I went to cavalier Ford dealer at portsmouth, va and they could not find anything wrong. Since there was no recall or mention of this problem from Ford, I was told not to worry about it. Today, while driving with my wife and daughter, I had complete loss of power with the yellow wrench sign again. I had to pull on the wrong side of the road with hazard lights on. Again, we were lucky that we did not get hit. When restarted, I was able to drive back home and take my wife's car. I am taking the Ford Edge to the dealer again. I am letting you know that, when I googled for similar problems, there were plenty of complaints on this model vehicle. . Read more...
Vehicle lost power while entering freeway. Wrench light came on, engine was shuddering baldy. Engine had just been started after sitting for 90 minutes. Had to limp across two lanes of traffic to get to the median. Engine had to be shut down and restarted after two minutes. Could have caused a bad collision. I do not trust this car. It is dangerous.
My wife was driving on a surface street with our infant boys in the back seat. Without warning, the 2011 Ford Edge lost all power and the engine vibrated intensely. It could have caused a serious collision. She restarted the car and tried to make it home safely and slowly. It happened again on the way. The next day (7/20/15), when we drove the SUV to the dealership, it happened a 3rd time. Galpin Ford (n hills, CA) diagnosed it with a faulty throttle body, not covered by our 7-year powertrain limited warranty. This is a certified preowned Ford Edge that we purchased a little over a year ago. Throttle bodies should not fail with 45k miles on the car. And, it should be covered by the warranty, or better yet. . . It should be a recall. The loss of power is a dangerous problem that Ford should take responsibility for.
The first time the problem occurred I was driving down a street and had slowed to make a left turn into a retail establishment. Just as I made the turn the vehicle shuddered slightly and immediately lost forward momentum - it was like the vehicle was in neutral - I had no acceleration. A wrench appeared on my driver's display. I was able to pull to a stop and I shut the vehicle off. After several minutes I attempted to start the vehicle. It took several seconds longer than normal for the vehicle to start but it did. The second occurrence happened in my work parking lot. I had backed my vehicle out of my parking place and just as I started to accelerate the vehicle shuddered slightly and I again lost any acceleration. I turned the vehicle off and restarted immediately. Again, it look slightly longer than normal for the vehicle to start. The third time I was driving 55 down a road when the vehicle suddenly lost momentum. Same deal with limping to the side of the road, praying this time that nothing was coming as the vehicle was only half off the road. It started with effort. In each occurrence the wrench appeared. This has all happened over a period of 13 days. I contacted a local Ford dealership Saturday and described the problem over the phone. The mechanic said he was very familiar with the problem - that it was the throttle body. I decided to do some online research and discovered complaint after complaint describing the same problem. I'm very disappointed in Ford for not making this problem more of a priority. Does there need to be a loss of life before something is done? we will be driving several states away in just a few weeks and I have absolutely no confidence in my vehicle. I certainly don't want to be traveling 75 miles an hour on a freeway when my vehicle suddenly decides it doesn't want to cooperate. Very, very disappointing.
Our family was driving on a heavily traveled bridge at 40mph and the vehicle immediately lost all power and idled roughly, forcing us to travel on the bridge at just a few miles an hour with our four-way flashers on until we reached the side of the road. A wrench appeared on the computer screen with the message awd off. My husband turned the vehicle off and then back on and it ran fine until we drove it again and same thing happened. We are fearful for our safety and beg Ford to recall. I visited several websites and saw way too many consumers with this same serious safety issue. We are going to get it evaluated by a mechanic tomorrow and pray that we are able to safely drive it to the garage.
On April 11, 2015, the throttle body assembly on the engine of my 2011 Ford Edge failed while in heavy traffic at highway speed on a 6-lane highway. I was traveling in the inside lane when the failure occurred. There was no power to the engine, and I coasted quickly across 2 lanes to a right turn lane. Fortunately, everyone reacted positively to my emergency flashers as I decelerated. On Monday, April 13, the local Ford dealership repaired the car. After returning home, I checked the internet for information on this failure mode and was surprised to read that Ford had a couple years earlier settled a NHTSA complaint for several Ford models that exhibited the problem my car experienced. The Ford Edge was not part of the settlement. Further research revealed other Ford Edges with the same problem as mine. Apparently, Ford won a partial settlement on the throttle body issue. The failure mode is as dangerous as the general motors ignition switch failure. Both the gm and Ford failure modes result in the same manner ¿ complete loss of power and a hope to make it safely to stop. Recognizing that others are having problems similar to me, shouldn¿t the NHTSA reexamine this Ford problem. In my case I¿m just thankful my wife wasn¿t driving the car. She was with me when the failure occurred and claimed she would not have known how to react. Do you really want to wait until we have as many deaths as gm experienced with their ignition switch failure before acting?.
I was driving my 2011 Ford Edge on a busy road and lost all ability to accelerate. The engine jerked, then started shaking, wrench light came on the dash board. I would push the pedal and nothing would happen. Had to roll along with flashers on until I reached a parking lot entry to pull into, as there was no shoulder on the road I was on. Meanwhile, cars were speeding up behind me and passing my car into on coming traffic to avoid colliding with me. Once in the parking lot, I turned off the car, and immediately turned it back on (less than two seconds later), and everything was back to normal. Took the vehicle directly to the dealer and was told by their service technician that I needed a new throttle body and was no longer under warranty (vehicle had 57,000 miles).
I was driving vehicle up a slight grade at 30mph. Engine power suddenly dropped to an idle rpm. It felt like it was running on 1 cylinder and very rough. I was able to "creep" the car to the side of road. Pressing on the accelerator in neutral or drive had no effect. A "wrench" warning icon appeared on the indicator panel. Shutting off and restarting the car allowed us to drive home. This occurred two times within 2 miles. The car will be taken to the dealer today for repairs. This same scenario (less than 270 miles prior) occurred as my wife accelerated away from our home 3 weeks prior. The owners manual indicated it was an awd issue. My car does not have that feature. The car was taken to the dealer who indicated it was a transmission problem covered by a service bulletin and reprogramed the transmission computer. Prior to these engine incidents the car had acted odd when shifting, as though it popped in and out of gear. This is a safety concern and so far we have been lucky because it happened each time in low traffic conditions.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 5 mph into the driveway, there were smoke and flames erupting from underneath the hood. In addition, there was smoke in the cabin. The fire department extinguished the fire. A police and fire report were filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000. Djr.
Car almost shuts down, you can drive it at 1 mph or restart & it works fine. Engine light does come on. Had it towed to dealership & they couldn't find anything wrong. We are both handicap, it's are only car & shuts off daily. Dealership can not do anything unless we bring it, take a mechanic with us & it happens while he is in the car!!.
While merging onto freeway suddenly lost ability to accelerate. Wrench icon came on dash display. Was able to pull over to the side of the freeway. Turned car off, turned back on and was able to drive the car normally again. I am hoping there is a fix for this problem as it was very dangerous.
I began to accelerate at a intersection when my vehicle suddenly and without warning lost power to the wheels. The engine remained on but began to sputter. A yellow wrench appeared on the dashboard saying that the awd had turned off. I turned the engine off and it restarted with some difficulty. A few days later the same issue occurred again but now wont run more than a few hundred yards without reoccurring.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 20 mph, the service engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle suddenly shook and vibrated violently. The vehicle operated normally once it was turned off and restarted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 65,600.
When driving my Ford Edge down the highway, it suddenly loses power and have to pull off road. Has happened 3x so took to dealership and they want $900 to fix! really can't believe a throttle body goes out after 3 years.
While driving my 2011 Ford Edge with 59k miles the engine cut out on me. After pulling to the shoulder and shutting off the car it restarted after a few minutes. This happened on 3 different occasions before I was able to take it to the dealer. After two days they were able to tell me it was a faulty throttle body and not covered under the warranty. How can there be recalls for other Ford models with the same problem but not for the Edge? ridiculous and completely unsafe!!!!.
The car lost power. When I turned it off and turned it back on, it started and ran fine. It happened again and I took it to the local Ford dealership. The quick service technician said it sounded like the throttle body. It has happened a couple of other times sporadically. It happened 4 times this past Saturday. I took it to the dealership and just found out it was the throttle body, which will be replaced for $622. 59. My car is no longer under warranty and there are no recalls for this that the dealership can find. Though repair pal indicates there was a recall (https://repairpal. Com/Ford-edge-recall-10v659000) and the north carolina consumer council has filed a petition for an investigation into this matter. Please investigate this as it is extremely dangerous for your car to just completely shut down on you while you are driving. Fortunately, no one has been hurt any of the times this has happened to me. Had I been on the interstate, I am not sure I could say the same.
When driving on a 2 lane mountain road at 60, engine fully warmed up (running for 20+ minutes, ambient temperature approx 85 f) the throttle become unresponsive and the engine rpm dropped to approximately 600 rpm based on the dash tachometer. When this happened a yellow wrench dialog was displayed on the digital dash with no text other than "ok". All controls other than the throttle seemed to function correctly. We were going downhill when this happened and were able to coast until we found a suitable place to pull over. Once we pulled over we noticed the engine was running rough and sputtering. We turned the engine off and then back on and the issue persisted (rough idling and no throttle control). Opened hood and pulled engine cover to check for any visible issues, none found. When we got back into the car the throttle was functioning properly and the idle was smooth with no sputtering. We finished the rest of the drive without incident and when we got back to the house hooked up the obdii reader and no fault codes were stored. We took the Edge in to the nearest Ford dealer (lawley's team Ford in silver city, nm) the next morning and they found no fault codes stored in any module and charged us $122. 25 for the diagnostics even though the car is still covered under the factory power train warranty. They said they didn't know what caused the issue but said it may have been a "random glitch" or "bad fuel". Thankfully, this happened on a lightly traveled road and we were heading downhill and able to coast and find a place to pull off the road. If this were a busy road or we were not able to pull completely off the road this could have been a much more serious issue. We have only owned the vehicle for less than a month so we can't say whether it has happened before that. It has not occurred in the 1000+ miles we have put on the car since it occurred.
Driving on major highway, 55 mph, all of a sudden the car jerks, slows down and I cannot control the acceleration. I have to quickly pull over onto grassy area out of the way of traffic. The awd signal came on and a wrench signal. I quickly turned car off and restarted and it was fine. This happened over a month ago and did not happen again until yesterday and then again this morning. All 3 times my 2 year old has been with me and I have been on a major highway. This could have had dire consequences. The car slows down so quickly that if anyone was closely behind me they certainly would have rear-ended me. Looking online this seems to be quite the issue, yet there has been no recall?? this is unacceptable!.
