The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated while attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal was extremely firm while depressed, and the vehicle failed to stop immediately, causing the braking distance to be extended. The vehicle was eventually taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the brake booster and master cylinders were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact’s daughter owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that his daughter received the manufacturer's recall number csp-13n02 (service brakes). The recall was repaired however, the contact stated that four years later while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, she depressed the brake pad however, the vehicle failed to stop. The contact’s daughter had to apply pressure by pumping the brakes several time to stop the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder leaked into the brake booster and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure . The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number and advised to call the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

Brake pedal goes to the floor and brakes are almost entirely disengaged. This happened intermittently at first but now seems permanent, rendering vehicle unsafe for use. This problem nearly resulted in an accident. Was taken to a local mechanic and master cylinder was replaced, this did not fix the problem. Brake fluid is good and cause of the problem is unknown. Car is currently parked as we do not know how to proceed safely. This problem occurs when the vehicle is moving at any speed or direction.
First the master cylinder went, then the brake booster and now the hydrolic control unit. Eachpart more expensive thenthe last and the last being 2119. 20 to repair. The entire braking system, parts I was told should not break. I have been told, by a reputable mechanic that often when replacing the brake booster, the lines are improperly bled andair gets into the hydraulic system. Upon farther research on line into the issue, there are page after page of the same complaint.
My vehicle has 98000 miles on it and Ford has stated it needs a abs control unit that's a cost of $2000. 00. My brakes are awful. I paid for a brake booster & master cylinder I didn't need. My latch went and that cost a lot of money left front door now my back up camera doesn't work. What's next???.
This is an update on a previous complaint, #11339451. An independent auto repair shop in el paso, TX replaced the master cylinder which did not correct the problem. They reinstalled the original master cylinder and both manually bled the lines and then used a computer assisted brake bleeder which correct the problem. Their total charge was $100. 00 compared to the estimate from a Ford dealer which was $2,176. 12. The estimate from the Ford dealer was to remove and replace the master cylinder and the abs hsu module. Neither part was needed, just bleeding the lines.
While driving at about 15 mph in a parking lot and having gone over a speed bump, I heard a clunk and immediately had a super soft brake pedal. The brakes still stop the car, but with difficulty. The local Ford dealer in el paso, TX diagnosed the problems as a defective master cylinder and faulty abs hcu module. The estimated cost of repairs is $2,176. 12. Current mileage is 73,070.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph approaching a stop, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled all the way down to the floor. After several attempts , it finally stopped. The contact stated that the failure started around January 2019 and it worsen. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic that determined that the master cylinder had to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired by the contact , not by the independent mechanic. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic, but an appointment was schedueled for 10-21-19. The vehicle was not repaired. The approiximate failure mileage was 99,000. Bp.
There is a partial recall on these model Ford Edge's. Where the brake booster and brake master cylinder are defective and cause the brakes to fill with air and lose partial and sometimes total loss of braking power. This happened to my 2012 Ford Edge sport. I bought new factory parts and had them installed by a professional. They went out again. It had to do with he factory of the parts. Please place a mass recall on this part. My wife and kids shouldn't get into a wreck due to brakes going out again. They already have totally gone out twice. The 2nd time my wife with daughter and my son in the car couldnt slow down in time and got into a fender bender. It wasn't serious. This time. Thank you. Also, another problem that has been noted by thousands of Ford Edge owners is the style of fuel door. It doesn't seal properly which in return causes a check engine light to appear on the instrument cluster. Please investigate this issue as sell. Thank you.
Brakes go all the way to floor. I have had brake booster replaced and master cylinder and still there is an issue. See that other people are having same issue and that Ford needs to check into this before somebody is badly injured!.
When normally depressing the brake pedal, the abs intermittently activates. Also, the brake pedal gets soft. There are very new brakes on my 2012 Ford Edge. The local Ford dealer, Ford customer service hotline all say there is no known issue as this. There are website listing numerous accidents indicating same issues where abs activates, brake pedal goes to the floor resulting in an accident. This issue needs to be corrected by Ford and a recall performed. So far, no known deaths but there have been many accidents with injuries. The issue is in the abs, not the booster, not the master cylinder. Disabling the abs removes the issue. Ford needs to fix this problem ASAP before someone dies.
While my wife was driving the car, she was not able to stop the car in a timely manner, the brake pedal went completely to the floor. We took it to the Ford dealer and they said it was most likely the master cylinder, they replaced it but the problem was still there. They then replaced a hydraulic brake module and said it was ok. We picked it up, paid $781. 40 for the repair. We drove it home approximately 1 mile, and the problem had not changed, we almost went through the garage before it would stop.
Abs, master cylinder and booster failed. Problem is infrequent soft pedal. 1. Booster replaced under Ford notice 13n02c. But soft pedal persisted off and on for months 2. Now dealer says abs and master cylinder are not working right. 3. Dealer requested financial assistance from Ford and no reply. $1800 est for repairs 4. Car is sitting at the dealer for 2 weeks with no resolution, today is 7/19/2019. Why have all three major braking components failed on this car? one problem, booster, Ford fixed n/c but now they are no help with the other two. Is there a design or mfg problem with the braking system? the soft pedal is very infrequent but scary when it does happen. Dealer had difficulty figuring out the issues as we kept coming back but by the time we arrived the soft pedal went away and the dealer could not test it. Finally we came back and the pedal was soft and they tested it and determined it was the abs and master cylinder. Dealer says car is not safe to drive.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. While driving 40 mph, the brakes failed. When the contact attempted to brake, the pedal traveled to the floorboard. The contact almost crashed into another vehicle due to the failure. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that a new master cylinder and abs bleed motor unit needed to be installed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 147,013.
Pedal went to the floor while driving on a highway which almost resulted in a serious car accident because the braking system did not engage. Unaware of the numerous complaints about spongy brakes, ntb attempted to replace hoses and master cylinder to no avail after replacing the master cylinder three times. There is obviously a defect in the parts /system since qualified mechanics can't fix the vehicle. Car will be towed to a Ford dealership but they have already started with disclaimers and that there is no recall or issues with the braking system despite numerous complaints about this very problem . Nhtsa needs to intervene and force Ford to recall this defective part . Lives can be lost unnecessarily because no one has taken action on behalf of the consumer.
After strong braking event - brake pedal became very soft and increasing pressure on the pedal was required to stop the vehicle. Took into a Ford dealer for repair - brake booster was replaced. A year later after a similar braking event - the same symptoms re-appeared. Dealer said it was faulty brake pad install. Problem persisted. 2 other independent mechanics replaced the master cylinder and bled the system. Problem persisted. Now dealer says its the hydraulic control module. However it would appear to be the booster again. This seems to be a faulty part that Ford will not admit needs to be recalled.
First has brake issues about 1-2 years after I purchased my car in 2012. The brake booster was replaced under the extended warranty, and I have had no issues up until January 2019. My brakes went out while stopping at a train track with a train coming, replaced the brake booster and all is seemingly well. Now one month later, my brakes have gone out again while stopping at a stoplight in the rain (almost hit the car in front of me), and the mechanic can't figure out what is wrong. They've replaced the brake booster again, the master cylinder, flushed the lines, called Ford and flushed the lines the way they recommended, and the most they can get my brakes to work for is 30-40 minutes before they go out again. The mechanic literally told my dad to light a match, and let the insurance take care of it! why hasn't this been recalled based on all of these stories?!?.
I have had to brake quickly on 2 occasions and 1 of the times I had to slam on my brakes as a car ran a stop sign coming off the highway. The pedal went all the way to the floor, I had to swerve into the other lane to avoid hitting the car and barely was able to stop my car. The second time I had to stop quickly and brake grinded to a stop in heavy traffic and a city street. Both time the pedal went all the way to the floor. During my new york state inspection did not pass due to a soft brake pedal, I had the back brakes replaced and they discovered the master cylinder had a leak. I had it replaced as well and the brakes still are not working properly. I have an appointment this Saturday to have the long pins (I think that's what it's called) replaced on the back brakes. They also said it's possible I will need to have the power brake booster replaced. After several hundred dollars and 4 Saturday's spent at the car repair store and still not resolution to the brake problem. I've read multiple complaints about the same issues on the same year, make and model car maybe it's time to issue a recall before it costs someone their life.
While driving and trying to stop the brake pedal became very hard to push. Had the brake booster replaced. Now after only 6 months the brake pedal is soft. Had the master cylinder replaced and it is still acting the same. This is unsafe and will not pass inspection. This is a common problem according to my research with Ford Edges. They have a replacement program in place for the brake booster but this was fixed and have a similar problem. So obviously that isn't the answer.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to jennings anderson Ford (31480 frontage rd, boerne, TX 78006) where the brake booster was replaced. Two weeks later, while driving 65 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle did not respond. The contact had to swerve off the road to avoid a crash. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit and master cylinder needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 117,000.
I had the brake booster, master cylinder, new brake pads and brake hydraulic system replaced 5 months ago and now it's doing the same thing again. Brakes are hard to push and very difficult to stop or go all the way down. Also, burning smell around the brakes. Very dangerous.
When approaching an intersection the brakes failed and brake pedal fell all the way to the floor, forcing me to turn into curb to avoid being hit by cross traffic. This is an intermittent issue that occurs when pressure is placed on the system. The Ford dealership has already replaced the brake booster and master cylinder (twice) and they cannot duplicate the issue. This has almost caused several wrecks, as there is typically no warning signs to when it may occur.
My wife was driving to work after dropping our 2 year old off at grandmas. She went to slow for a stale green light and the brake pedal went to the floor. Luckily she was almost to work at this point. We had the vehicle towed to my shop. Replace the brake booster because it has a known issue ( no recall just warranty extension), also replaced the master cylinder because this was clearly a hydraulic failure in the brake system. Driving the vehicle home that night with a good pedal until I get to the off ramp, at 70 miles an hour there is no longer any brake pedal and had to use the transmission to safely slow the vehicle. Now my wife is terrified to drive her vehicle in fear that the pedal is there one minute and gone the next.
While driving vehicle brake pedal went to the floor making the vehicle almost impossible to stop. I took the vehicle to a mechanic who replaced the brakes and master cylinder however that did not correct the problem of no brake pedal. I then took the vehicle to Ford where they advised that they have seen a rash of this problem, and advised that it is most likely the abs control module. The vehicle is at the Ford dealership as I type. This is the second issue with this vehicle, the first was a brake booster failure that made the brake pedal very hard to push.
In August 2018, I applied the brakes on my 2012 Ford Edge and the pedal went to the floor. This happened before and took it for diagnostic; abs sensor was tripped, but once reset all appeared to work fine. Was not sure what problem was and since could not replicate, it was not clear what we should do to fix problem. It has now happened again. I had no brake pressure, but could hear a whistle sound when releasing the brake. I had the master cylinder and brake booster replaced. However, on test drive during hard braking the pedal again went to floor, whistling stopped. It appears the problem is in the abs system. The cost to replace electronic and hydraulic abs is over $1100. After online research, I can see this is common problem with Ford Edges -- clearly too common.
I have a 2012 Ford Edge that has had major brake failure happen. Over the last few weeks while braking for a stop light the brake pedal drops to the floor, and barely avoided rear ending the car in front, and then seemingly works fine again afterwards, making me question myself as to how big of an issue it had. Yesterday it completely failed and turning off interstate at an off ramp (going 70mph!) I nearly rear ended the semi in front of us at the stop sign!! my 8 month pregnant wife was in the front seat with me and my two dogs in the back seat! we were within inches of the semi bumper decapitating us! I very slowly made it to a parking lot across the street with use of parking brake, and had the car towed home. Once home in my droveway the brakes seem to work. So I search the web to have an idea if this is a vehicle specific problem before going to mechanic. . Whoah! there are more complaints identical to mine than I can count! Ford has not issued a safety recall for this life threatening defect. I have read constantly it is the brake booster or master cylinder, but that replacing with new Ford oem part only gives them a few months or years before it too fails! I cannot gamble my family's lives on a defective Ford part. I have Ford vehicles from the 80s and none have ever had catastrophic brake failures while driving. This is certainly a model specific defect and needs to be remedied. I am reluctant to trade off the vehicle after I have it repaired and pass the problem on to someone elses family, but I don't want to repair it, and have my family relying on a ticking time bomb for the next time it fails to stop. It is very dangerous for Ford to have a fleet of Edges on the road all waiting to endanger innocent lives when they smash into a car, building, or cement barrier. Please force Ford to address this issue, recall every car with the defect, and save lives.
On two occasions in the last four months my wife was driving on the highway the Edge and when she push down on the brake pedal it went all the way to the floor board. The second time this happened she pumped the brakes but still did not have brakes. My mechanic is guessing it's the brake master cylinder so we are having it replaced.
Could not stop the vehicle. Soft pedal. Thank goodness I always leave lots of room when in traffic. Pressed on brakes. Nothing. Quickly pressed again. Nothing. Quickly pressed again. Stood on brakes. :finally stopped. Scared the daylights out of me. Was sole passenger, thank goodness, as usually have passengers with me. Has happened a few times this week and a few other times over the past month. Thought I just needed to schedule an appointment with my mechanic to bleed the brakes or check the master cylinder. Started at around 70,000 miles on vehicle. Am taking car to my mechanic but am reading that this is a common problem with 2012 Ford Edges. Why isn't there ar ecal when this seems to be a common occurrence! it's not a matter of if, but when, this will be a serious multi-casualty accident waiting to happen. Do people need to die/become vegetables before anything will be done so that Ford takes responsibility for mechanical/design flaws that can destroy lives and property???????.
Brake pedal went to the floor with minimal ability to stop. Contacted andy mohr Ford. No issue found. Replaced all breaks and rotors. On July 1st 2018 brake pedal went to floor again. Andy mohr Ford replace master cylinder. July 23 2018 brakes failed again. Big big big safety issue.
In September 2017, I was pulling into a bank with my 2012 Ford Edge. I applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I tried reapplying them but once again had almost no braking power to stop. After coming to a stop with the parking brake I turned the car off then back on. Still no brake pressure, but a whistle sort of squeak when releasing the brake. I contacted hub city Ford in lafayette, la and brought it in for repairs (sept 11). There was a recall on the brake booster which they agreed was the problem, and they replaced. Replacing the booster did not resolve the issue, and the dealership said the master cylinder needed to be replaced, even though there were no symptoms indicating an issue (no engine light, no leaks, no gradual loss in pressure). They replaced the master cylinder, then called to tell me there is still no brake pressure. Now they are saying the hcu needs to be replaced, and it will cost $1200. There was no warning that this was going out, and to my knowledge, doesn't show up on any type of diagnostics. I contacted Ford, and they created a case (cas-13144337) but would not tell me if there were other complaints with the same issue. By checking online, I see that this has happened many times to many car owners with no warning. The dealership told me that oftentimes they replace the power booster (recall issue) and ultimately end up replacing other components that are the real problem. The replaced boosters are being reported back to Ford, but maybe the other components are not because they are not under recall (but clearly should be).
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. While driving 50 mph, the brake pedal was loose and traveled to the floorboard without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Afterwards, the vehicle made an abnormal hissing noise. The contact was informed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called a local dealer (sloan-Ford Lincoln Mercury inc, 115 s james campbell blvd, columbia, TN 38401). The manufacturer was notified of the issue and referred the contact to NHTSA. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 78,000.
When driving my Edge through the mountains of upstate new york, I went to slow down going down a mountainous road. The brake pedal got very hard to push, and the vehicle did not want to slow down properly. Also noticed a hissing noise when the brake pedal was applied. Checked the brake fluid at the first available exit and noticed the master cylinder was 1/2 empty. Purchased new fluid and installed the needed amount in the master cylinder. The remainder of the 1400 mile trip the master cylinder did not show any loss of fluid, but the brakes are still not functioning properly. Got home and brought the vehicle to the local Lincoln/ Ford dealership, as I purchased this vehicle new. They replaced the brake power booster under the extended brake warranty, and said the vehicle was ready to go. I test drove the vehicle and found the brakes still not properly functioning. Still very low brake pedal, and soft also while stopped at light the pedal goes to the floor area. And they test drove the car they said. Immediately went back to dealer and left the vehicle. They said they will ask Ford if they will approve the brake master cylinder for replacement. Vehicle is at the dealer as of today August 4, 2015. Vehicle not safe to drive, collision is a very high risk with the vehicle as it now is. Left the vehicle at the dealer as stated before and will not pickup the vehicle until properly repaired a second time. Loosing faith in Ford at this time, what other issues will occur in the future?.
Almost ran my 2012 Edge into the back of an 18 wheeler today with my son in the car when my brakes failed! I immediately went to express oil since the service dept at the dealership had already closed for the day. They said it was the brake booster and master cylinder causing the issue. Since it should still be under warranty I elected to take it straight to the dealership first thing Monday am. One of the guys followed me home to ensure we made it safely. My car stalled 3 times in a 10 mile radius, again 3 more times that I could've been the cause of an accident! I do not feel safe driving this car and it should not be having such issues at almost 3 years old with 57k miles on it! I have done a web search and this seems to be a common issue! why has there not been a recall? this a very serious issue that could've easily cost us our lives and possibly others today if I had not had the space to swerve to avoid collision! for the past few weeks the brakes have not felt "right", they felt "airy" and recently began making a high pitched squealing/hissing sound. They would go from being very stiff to sinking right into the floor. On several occasions I had to stomp on the brakes to get the car to stop. I'm terrified to drive the car even to the dealership Monday morning.
Brakes started becoming difficult to apply regardless of speed, etc. Most often most difficult to apply after the car was shut off for a period of time. Took the car to the dealer and they replaced the booster. Service representative attempted to back the car out of the service bay the the booster failed. Couldn't stop the car so he put it in drive and it lunged forward and hit a car lift, creasing the front bumper, before it stopped. Attempted to replace the booster and the dealer said it "failed" in the box. Number three booster was installed and it failed. Master cylinder also failed. The dealer claims the new master cylinder and the fourth booster is working fine. Car in the body shop getting the front bumper repaired. Ford regional customer care representative was to call me and three days have passed without any response. No one care tell me Ford has corrected anything. All they are doing is throwing parts with an attempt it will fix itself.
