The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated while his wife was driving 15 mph, she depressed the brake pedal but it failed to stop the vehicle and rear ended another vehicle. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed it felt spongy. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The driver in the other vehicle sustained a bump on her left shin bone as she was standing outside of her vehicle putting her child into the vehicle medical attention was required for her injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to kent Chevrolet Cadillac, inc. (1413 hwy 62 e, mountain home, ar 72653: (888) 536-0357) and was serviced for the body damage of the vehicle. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired for the brake failure as of yet. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 192,836.
This is the second time that the brakes have failed on my 2012 Ford Edge. The symptoms are identical, so I expect the problem to be in the brake booster. The brakes worked properly until the failure. Suddenly the brake pedal went down to the floor but the brakes were not not applied. Both occurrences were in June, but 4 years apart. The first occurrence was at 31,500 km and the second at 85,400 km. The booster failure is a very serious problem and should warrant a recall.
Brakes have failed twice on this vehicle in driveway.
Breaks are hard and then go to the floor. Break flued seems to be leaking from the break booster. My wife inherited this vehicle from her mother who has parkinson disease and can no longer drive. She took ownership on or about August 19, 2019. She has complained about the breaks, but the problems seemed to come and go. Over the past 2 days the brakes failed several times with her narrowly avoiding major accidents. As she attempted to stop at lights in a 45 mph zone in the city of flower mound TX. The car is not safe to drive. Millage is currently 11,1030.
Intermittent brake failure. First occurrence on 7/9/19. Most recent, today, 9/17/19. No warning lights, system shows brakes are ok, fluid level is continually perfect. Absolutely no warning. You go to apply brakes and it suddenly goes straight to the floor. First 3 occurrences I was able to pump the brakes hard 3-6 times and it gradually went back to normal. 4th time resulted in brake failure multiple times over a 2-3 mile period, continually pumping brakes. They would start to stiffen up, be spongy, fall to the floor again, stiffen up, fail, spongy, etc. This is a serious safety issue and there appears to be numerous complaints about this. How many crashes or deaths will it take to hold the manufacturer accountable? this needs to be investigated thoroughly, the issue needs to be determined and corrected prior to the loss of life or serious injury. Previous complaints show costly repairs with no result of the issue being corrected. All 4 instances of brake failure I have experienced I was in motion, on a county road, three instances of turning and one going straight.
Vehicle purchased 12 Feb 2012. At 8,344 miles, vehicle was checked into the service department at shamaley Ford, el paso, TX because power brakes were not working on an intermittent basis. Complaint reads: "brake pedal hard and when pumping goes very low. " service department comment: "cause: booster not working at times. 2005a brake booster assembly . . . Replace bt4z*2005*a booster asy - brake" now at 65,495 (16 may 2019), the same condition exists. Not involved in a collision, but a few times the vehicle came too close to other cars before stopping. Occurs consistently after being parked, and then intermittently at highway speeds while using cruise control. Stepping on brake failed to disengage cruise control the first time, had to take the foot off the brake pedal and step on the brake hard again. Happens a city speed limits, also intermittently. Defective part? needs to be investigated, and if defective, issue a recall and hold Ford responsible for free replacement.
My brakes have been routinely serviced and brake booster replaced . The paddle goes all the way to floor. I just had the works done last week on April 10th 2019 . Well today we weren't so lucky. We left for vacation and in virginia we got into an accident because the brakes failed on us .
This is the third complaint I have filed in an attempt for this issue to be investigated. As I was pulling into my garage this evening, my brakes failed again with no warning. I narrowly missed hitting the wall. I was traveling at a low speed. My vehicle has approximately 100,000 miles on it.
I have experience brake failure 3 times since November 2018. I have had numerous repairs such as brake booster replacement, master cylander, flushes, hcu assy replacement and my brakes still go out. All the while with my children in the car. I am scared to drive it anymore.
8-11-2016 complete brake failure while in motion, brake pedal travels to floor with no power assist. Dealer diagnoses and replaces brake booster. 9-24-2018 complete brake failure unable to stop at highway speeds. Managed to get to safety. Pedal travels to floor no stopping. Called dealer once more, was advised to contact Ford for coverage of work as it is out of warranty. Do not want this vehicle with 2 brake failure events. Pending service case.
Brakes failed without any warning. My speed was approximately 35 mph. They failed when I was attempting to slow down for an upcoming stop sign. Thankfully, no vehicles were coming the other way. The odometer was ~48,600. I was not told of any extended warranty on the power booster when I bought the vehicle used from a Ford dealership in erie PA in 2015. I had the vehicle towed to my mechanic. They diagnosed the issue as a failure of the power booster. He replaced with an after factory part as I was reluctant to replace with a Ford part due to issue caused by a faulty Ford part. It cost me $406. 34 total including labor and the part, no towing charge as I used my aaa membership. A few weeks later I mentioned the problem to a male friend who suggested I check the Ford website which I did. I discovered this part was known to be faulty and there was an extended warranty on it. I then contacted the local Ford dealership where I bought it from, they said I'd have to contact corp. Ford. I did and got the run around between corporate and local dealership despite having provided a lot of documentation. No one wanted to reimburse me for this problem. I proved the local dealership never made me aware of extended warranty either at the time of purchase or later. The original salesperson no longer worked there. Had I been informed by Ford of this problem, I would have then known to go to the dealership when it happened instead of my local mechanic. There was no reason why Ford couldn't have supplied this to me except for employee failure. The car was a Ford, its VIN in Ford's system and the extended warranty was issues before I purchased the vehicle. . .
Brake booster failed nearly killing us in Dec 2015 as we rolled into an intersection. Luckily nobody hit us. Repaired Jan 2016 under cust satisfaction program 13n02 by Ford, likely to avoid a real recall. Replacement booster has now failed almost causing another accident after a year and 1/2 and 15k miles as wife had to run off road to avoid stopped traffic because she had no brakes. Why has NHTSA not forced a recall? it is literally is a situation where thousands of these cars are rolling around with adults and young drivers not knowing that at some point they'll need to stop and they will have zero brakes. Is anybody reading these? yes if you push to the floor hard and hold it tight it will eventually stop as a crude manual brake. Kids have never driven a car without power brakes! the rest of us aren't expecting it since no warning signs. Ford is simply installing the same defective part endangering lives. What do we do, sell the car and put someone else at risk since the replacement parts are the same faulty crap?.
While turning into a parking lot on 6/26/17, my brakes failed - went to the floor and I kept going - slowly since I was turning. Dealership sent a wrecker because I was afraid to drive the vehicle. It was the brake booster that had failed. I had just had new rear brakes put on 5/16/17 and went back because of clunking noise when I applied the brake on 6/1/17. I understand that this has happened to other 2012 Ford Edges and wanted you to add my vehicle to the list. Could have been really bad if I had been driving fast and faster and suddenly needed to stop!.
Occasionally when braking (when the vehicle is in motion), the brake pedal becomes very soft and it feels like you have no brakes for the first 3/4 of the pedal. Eventually you can slow down and come to a stop but you have to make sure you give yourself a lot of room as it takes a greater amount of time to stop the vehicle than normal. This failure is sporadic but has occurred on numerous occasions - especially when it is raining which is even scarier as you definitely want solid brakes when driving in the rain. But, it has also happened on completely dry days. When the car is on and in park, and you push the brake pedal you also hear a "thud" sound, and can feel a vibration in the gear shift. We have brought this problem to the dealer multiple times and they continue to tell us nothing is wrong, but it appears from reading others' posts that the brake booster has failed. We are taking it in one more time tomorrow and will push for resolution, but this really feels like something Ford should address as a recall as it is a major safety issue.
17 year old driving her car, was on a slight incline, brakes failed, she almost rolled into the car behind her, but she was able to turn in the turning lane and make a right turn and did the responsible thing, call mom and dad after getting into a parking lot. Hubby drove it home and he had to slam the pedal down to get the brakes, to work, we are waiting for dealership to open in the morning to tow this vehicle to get looked at as it is too dangerous to drive.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 5 mph and reversing on an incline, the brakes failed. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence and not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
Sudden brake failure. Brake pedal goes down to the floorboard but brakes are not engaged. Up to that point the brakes were fine. There was no gradual softening of the pedal to warn about a problem. One minute the brakes were fine. The next moment they failed. Luckily the car was moving slowly and the manual emergency/parking had to be used to stop the car the problem is a failure of the brake booster - which had to be replaced.
Fsa 13n02 brake booster extended warranty. My first complaint is that this fsa is not a "safety recall" but classified as a customer satisfaction action if someone complains about their brakes. I was pulling out onto a very busy street and seconds away from getting on the interstate when my brakes failed, I could not stop. My vehicle was in the shop for a different problem and supposedly brakes inspected as a "service to me" the day before this incident occurred. My 1st question is why was I not notified of this potential safety hazard and 2nd why doesn't Ford consider this a safety issue. I was very lucky nothing happened to me, as I was on my way out of town for a trip. I find this very irresponsible on Ford's part and something should be done about it. I am very seriously looking at a different manufacturer to make my next car.
While leaving the parking lot at work my wife's brakes failed without warning, she was lucky no cars were coming or she would have been hit. Scary considering my wife and daughter ride in this car everyday, and we took it on vacation to colorado, just glad the brake didnt fail in the mountains. It was really just luck, cant believe that there hasn't been a mandatory recall for this problem. Well the good news is Ford is paying for the repair, thanks for stepping up after the fact, instead of doing what you should have done when you knew you had a problem. Recall.
Brake booster failed with no prior warning. Sitting at stop light, brake pedal went to the floor and car lundged forward into intersection. Luckily we were not hit. Contacted Ford dealer and they informed me it is "very" common failure and it was covered under extended warranty negotiated by Ford to prevent a recall? I see Ford who won that negotiation. . It is nice that this won't cost me any money but it has or will surely cost someone their life(s). Unbelievable that the dealer, NHTSA and Ford know about this problem and no notice is sent to tens of thousands of families driving kids around in death traps? if that is the best you can negotiate at NHTSA, given a choice I'd rather have been notified of the issue rather than have Ford pay for the repair. At least families could make the wise decision not to drive the car. Why do we have government agencies if this is allowed? I see hundreds of complaints all over the web and no recall??? no notice?? how many other timebombs have been sucessfully negotiated to remain on our roads putting families at risk by manufacturers?.
Brakes failed to engage, pedal was hard, pedal had to be pumped to get brakes to engage, dealer visited Dec 23 2015, diagnosis power break booster failure, called Dec 28 2015 to return for service, dealer claimed car fine to drive and left dealership with car on the 23rd?.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at approximately 25 mph, the brake failed without warning. The contact stated that she was able to coast until the vehicle came to a complete stop. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the vehicle was diagnosed that the brake booster failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 56000. Am.
Tl- the contact 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise randomly happening as the the brake system failure progressed. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was applied, it was hard to depress. The contact had to apply force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was to be taken to an authorized dealer to inspect and diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
Brakes did not initially respond when backing up. Brake pedal was hard and took tremendous force to even begin to slow vehicle. Same occurrence when moving forward at slow speed. At faster speed, brakes were very grabby and inconsistent. Immediately concerned for safety and took to Ford dealership. Service tech. Knew immediately what issue was just by description of symptoms. Informed me car unsafe to drive and that repair would be covered by Ford customer satisfaction program 13n02 to replace brake booster. This seems like a recall situation as evidenced by many other accounts of this brake failure by me and many others. I was just fortunate it didn't occur on highway the day before.
Ford Edge sport 2012. Strange hissing sound when applying breaks. I have to apply slightly more pressure before vehicle comes to a complete stop. Possible power brake booster failure as indicated by Ford notice "customer satisfaction program 13n02. ".
Brakes make hissing noise and pedal is very hard while car is in park or drive. Car does not stop normally and requires large space to coast to stop. Brake booster failure. Unsafe to drive without fear of collision.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal became extremely hard to depress and the vehicle made a loud hissing sound when backing up a boat. The contact mentioned that the brakes failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the brake pedal still fell spongy whenever it was depressed. The manufacturer was not made of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
I was unable to come to a complete stop and hit a cone in nyc. After, it was extremely difficult to come to a complete stop. The car was able to slow down but it took time. I drove slow and away from others. The brakes were hard and made noise when I pushed down on the brakes. When I went to the dealer, they informed me that Ford has an extended warranty on the part and I asked why wasn't the part recalled if it put me and my family in harms way. Why wasn't I notified prior to losing full braking power? I am thankful that I noticed the problem right away and my family and I are safe. I have concerns for others who may be at a greater speed when the brakes fail or have to stop unexpectedly. In addition, my car has returned to the dealership for service several times for not locking into the park position. It is not safe and again, I have concerns for my family and others. Can this car move if it isn't secured in the park position? I have voiced my concerns with Ford but have been given the run around by everyone I have encountered. These are safety issues and no one seems to care. Everyone is nice and apologizes but they need to take care of these safety concerns for their customers and for the general public.
I was driving around 55 mph on the freeway and went to apply the brakes. The brake peddal went straight to the floor with minimal slowing of car. If I really needed to stop the car I would have been in an accident. I used the emergency brake to control car. Went to dealer and they stated this was a common issue with Ford Edge with the power brake booster pump failing. This hazard could have resulted in a significant accident for me had it failed when I needed a immediate stop to car. I sent Ford this same feedback today via the Ford service feedback form. My car is sitting in the shop fo rmultiple weeks since the part is on national backorder. This tells me this issue is a trend in the car model and more proactive action should be taken by Ford. Makes me very concerned how close I was to a possible significant accident with possible injuries.
Stop and go traffic. Stopped at traffic signal 4 cars back. Traffic started moving on green light, I tapped my brakes 3x, 4th time no brakes. I rolled into the back of a Jeep slowly, 2mph, while standing on my brake pedal with no hydraulic pressure at all. We moved to the shopping mall parking lot, brake pressure was restored. Happened only when pumping brakes repeatedly at slow rate of speed. Brought vehicle to dealer. Told brake booster would have to be replaced. Customer satisfaction program # 13n02. Completed 7/29/14. Previously ran vehicle health report through mysync = brakes ok. Feb'14 - oil change at dealership. Asked about letter I received about brake booster but was told "I wasn't ready for that just yet. I would feel spongy brakes before it needed replacing". They drove my vehicle into bay and tech said brakes were fine. Obviously not. Brakes failed without warning. 77% increase in premiums due to merit rating board, insurance agent said they could do nothing about surcharge (10 yr old Jeep bumper that was already rusted out) .
The brake booster has failed,, it appears that the problem is happening to many Edges as I have researched on google,. . I believe the problem should be looked into based on the amount of incidents.
My 2012 Ford Edge a year old and only 9,350 miles had a catastrophic break failure while I was trying to go down steep hill. Luckily that I realized the problem immediately so I did not hurt others or myself. I proceeded to consult a local mechanic and he stated that I have a booster issue and I should not drive my car. I have towed my car to the nearest dealer the follwoing day (today). I have been waiting to hear from the dearler service advisor since 10 am and no one has contacted me. I finally decided to stay on hold so I can talk to him in person. I have been on hold more than 20 minutes. After searching on google I realized this is a recurring problem and Ford never issued any warning to inform its customer of the potential life damaging situation. I am willing to bet that Ford is aware of this issue but the cost of recall or notification is worth more than catastrophic human life loss due to brake failure.
Bad brakes (“brake boosters”) - I am extremely upset and amazed that my new 2012 Ford Edge, purchased one year earlier and only has 15,000 miles had a catastrophic brake failure. My wife had been driving the vehicle with my five (5) month old baby and discovered the vehicle would not stop. My wife almost crashed the vehicle; potentially injuring her and my newborn. Believing it was maybe a random event, I searched google for “Ford Edge brake failure” and I was astonished to find that this is a common occurrence. Several blogs described different experiences with brake problems related to a brake “booster”; people almost crashing. So I called a local dealer (greenway Ford) and had my vehicle towed in for repair. I was advised by the salesperson that it was in fact the “brake booster” and that he had seen three (3) recently at the dealership for this same issue. This is called a “clue” that something is wrong with the part itself and Ford is not being a responsible company and correcting the issue. Apparently, the cost of a life is measured is outweighed by cost of a recall and what your company may lose in civil litigation. The dealer (greenway Ford) is repairing the vehicle under warranty and after a day of not completing the job offered a free rental vehicle. The vehicle has now been at the dealership for two days. The dealer also noted that they have seen several vehicles with this same issue. Also, several online blogs have documented the issue. It appears this is a know issue and Ford has done nothing – proactively – to correct the issue.
I was driving down a steep hill (parking lot from work) this leads onto a busy avenue. When I pressed on the brakes I noticed my vehicle rolled onto the street,I could not stop. I quickly turned right. Thank god there were no cars coming. However, had I not quickly turn, the car would have rolled right onto the center of the street and I would have gotten side swapped both ways. I could not pull over so I drove slow going under 10 mph and turned on to a road and pulled into a pharmacy parking lot in which I let the car roll into a parking space and I called the towing company and had it towed to the dealer I purchased it from. I was told yesterday that the brake booster failed. After asking what it was, I then asked why and how did it fail. They stated it was defected and things like this happen and that is why new cars have warrantys. They were waiting to receive the part so they can replace it. I'm not confident that my car is safe and I told them I had a 5 year old daughter and was concerned about the safety of the car. The dealer said they can't guarnatee nothing else will happen, but that is why new cars are under warranty. I'm not confident anymore and Ford should really begin recalling these brake boosters. I could have died. It was god watching over me that I'm unharmed. Something needs to be done soon!.
Car was in reverse, backing out of a garage. The power brakes failed although I was still able to stop the car by pressing hard on the pedal. It was as if the power-assist went out & pedal traveled all the way to the floor. Problem repeated, again when in reverse and parallel parking, on 7/31. Had the car checked at the Ford dealer on 8/4 but they did not identify a problem. Symptoms repeated on 8/10 while backing out of a parking space and on 8/19, also while backing out of a parking space. So far this has only happened at low speed while the car is in reverse, but I fear it will happen while driving at normal speed. This car is unsafe to drive.
