I bought my car used from dealership when I was about to have my baby. SUV was fine up until a few months ago. I was driving and my break pedal was making a squeeking, squealing sound everytime my foot was on the pedal. No matter what it made that noise entire time while driving day in and out. The break pedal would either be very loose to the floor or either it would be so hard I could not push it down. Ive only had vehicle 5 yrs and just replaced breaks. Now I have to use both feet to push down on break pedal to stop. My child isn't safe so I drive slow everywhere now. Mechanic who did break pads said it was the booster going out. Said Ford has so many problems and issues happening with breaks/booster/master cylender. I am a single mom who does not have money for costly repairs like this. I just paid off in full this vehicle and now thinking I could have used that money now for this problem. My vehicle is only 9 yrs old. I need a miracle. This should be taken care of by Ford and a recall issued for break issues including booster and master cyinder.
The brake pedal acts as if there is air in the line or the need to be bled. The brake pads are fairly new changed this year. The next stop starts the same then the pedal goes to the floor. The other issue is the engine oil pressure light comes on. The idle id effected by this and the engine nearly stalls.
Brake pads had been changed 8/19. Beginning 7/20, considerable effort was needed to engage the brakes. The pedal would be nearly to the floor before fully engaging. With the car in motion, we were concerned that we wouldn't stop in time. . The car was taken to our auto shop where the mechanic discovered there was a problem with the brake booster. He mentioned that ours was the third Edge he has worked on with this same problem.
For several months my brakes have gotten worse and worse. Brake pads were replaced, brakes adjusted and even flooring the brakes sometimes does not work. Car has hesitated and shut off at intersections. Rain has caused some hydroplaning. Car continues rolling with brake pedal pushed all the way down. I stopped the car at a traffic light, but the car continued to roll slowly and ran into the vehicle in front of me! help! no damage to either exterior, but I don't know what might happen next.
While braking, the brakes didn't not perform as expected. They were working fine, then it felt like I couldn't stop in time. I had to push the peddle all the way down to stop. It caught me off guard, and almost couldn't stop in time. There was a hissing noise from the petal afterwards. The condition existed until I stopped, parked the car, and waited several hours. Then the next time I drove it, no issues. I checked the brake system and determined. - no visible leaks - brake pads have plenty of life - brake fluid reservoir still full.
During a recent snow fall. I was driving down the road. When I went to stop the abs system activated due the the snowy road conditions. From them on the brake pedal has gone to the floor with out returning back to normal. I did have the brakes looked at and found out the pads and rotors are fine. The service department was not able to see any issues and told me I would have to take it to a Ford dealership to have the computer looked at. Because the repair shop does not have access to Ford software.
While driving over a bump in the road on a city street, the brakes stopped working. Brake pressure was lost and only by depressing the pedal to the floor could a small amount of braking power be applied. No warning lights appeared and no noises, hissing, ect were heard. The issue occurred three times in the same location in the span of a month. After two incidents, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who suspected the brake booster may be failing. The mechanic could not confirm an issue with the braking system, but we elected to replace the brake booster as functional brakes are essential and a booster recall has occurred for this vehicle, although this VIN was not included in the recall. Within a few days of the repair, the exact issue occurred again in the same spot, so the booster replacement clearly did not resolve the issue. The vehicle has been well maintained with newly replaced pads and rotors and has approximately 75,000 miles. Once the vehicle was stopped, the brakes started working normally and continued working normally after the car was turned off and then back on again. The vehicle will be taken to our local Ford dealer shortly to attempt to diagnose the issue.
Brakes became spongy 2 1/2 weeks ago. Took to family mechanic. They were unable to recreate and stayed the brake pads are in great condition. Went on short vacation and the brakes continued to be spongy but not every time. When we returned home it began happening more frequently and a hissing sound began when applying brakes. Then yesterday morning the car shut off in the middle of a busy intersection but restarted after a few minutes. Took it into mechanic again and they were able to recreate both issues. After research they discovered a Ford extended warranty for this issue so I towed it to nearest Ford dealership. Now the garage is telling me it will cost between $800 and $1000 and my VIN is not covered. The info online states it should be covered. I pay my final car payment in 2 weeks and my additional warranty that I purchased ended in may. It seems this is a known issue and should be covered and most certainly should be recalled. It is not due to normal wear and tear. I have owned it brand new and after 7 years only have 30k miles on it. The vehicle is in great condition otherwise. Braking issues almost led to an accident the day before and it shut off with no warning or lights from the vehicle in the middle of an intersection. What if we had been on our road trip and going 80 miles an hour? this is a safety issue. The issue was recreated at the family mechanic in a parked position but for me it was operational.
I lost the break while driving at 20 miles , the break went to the floor. I change the breaks and pads and the breaks still incredible low. I call Ford customer service and they are not helpful at all this is a very sirius problem please do something.
Brakes started becoming loose, would go all the way to floor with hissing sound. Vehicle would still stop ok. Mechanic checked because brake pads, rotors, etc were all fine. He said it was the pressure and he believed there to be a recall or extended warranty on the issue so he did not want to do. The brakes then started to become locked, it wouldn't go down at all and stopping was becoming an issue. Unless you pumped slowly and then it did the hiss and all the way to the floor. I called Ford dealership and they took VIN and said our vehicle wasn't included. I started doing research and learned that many folks are having the same issues and are being told the same thing. . . Not included. Many. Seems to me common sense would say that maybe the issue is bigger than we first realized. How many will be injured or killed ? and OH yes how many like us will have to spend hundreds of dollars on something Ford should take care of. Do the right thing and make Ford fix them all.
All four rotors failed before the brake pads failed. The dealer says this is normal wear and tear. However the vehicle has been lightly used. It seems the brake rotors are made of defective materials subject to abnormal corrosion. Ford customer service refused to cover the parts under warranty. This is a safety issue that I will have to resolve and pay for.
Takata recall we bought the 2013 Ford Edge new and within a week started to here noise in the brakes , we called the dealer an they said its probably because the car sits garage too much. So we put more miles on the car drove it more now at just over 22,000 miles the brakes started getting really noisy an became a bumping sound you could here while starting to step up the speed . We got scared to drive it so took it to my mechanic . They took apart the brakes and they pads and rotors were all shot and will cost me over $500 to fix . We called the dearler who said that it is out of warrentee.
The passenger side inside brake pad was worn down to the metal. The outside of the passenger brake pad and the driver side brake pads were almost like new. I've paid over $300 in parts and labor to have rotors and pads replaced. This incident will most likely happen again. The vehicle is not under warranty. There have been others who have complained about the same issue. This is a safety issue, but I'm not sure how much of a safety issue it is. Hopefully nothing happens during our daily commute.
The brake fluid line on the rear brakes was not allowing brake fluid through therefore causing the rear brake pads to continually stay engaged. The outer rim of both rear rotors was completely charred and burnt red along with the surface of the rotor being completely worn and gouged. I was told by the repair shop that I was lucky they did not start a fire from running so hot. The rear rotors, pads and brake fluid lines all had to be replaced.
