5 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2020

Power brakes will randomly fail, without any warning. Safety of driver and passengers, as well as other motorists are in danger with this problem. Master cylinder and brake booster are operating correctly. Abs pump motor is the problem. A valve is sticking inside it, causing brake fluid to bypass the brake calipers line and just go open loop in the abs circuit. Google and youtube is full of the exact same problem. Factory part(s) did not even last 10years or 150,000 miles. Completely unacceptable for the most important system on a vehicle. No lights are on, basic scan tool finds no codes. Advanced scan tool finds a abs soft code:coo20:13-28. Ford wants over $3000 to fix with the exact same part that will fail again without notice. I am a small mechanic, and cannot do this repair because you have to have Ford's special software.

6 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2020

My brakes become spongy & go to the floor. It occurred sporadically but now is constant either when the vehicle is in motion or at a stop. If someone pulled out in front of me I could not stop in a safe distance. Brakes have been serviced. There are multiple complaints on line about this potentially fatal flaw. Matlock tires in athens, TN replaced the master cylinder and replaced all the brake pads. They called to the Ford dealership concerning recalls or how to repair the problem to no avail.

8 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2019

Brake pedal went to the floor as I applied them after exiting interstate and pulling into a parking lot. It was taken to a Ford dealership where the master cylinder, booster and hcu were all replaced, but problem still persisted.

9 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2019

This car is horrible. Multiple safety issues! first, my axle needs to be redone. Clicking and popping with all turns. Secondly, the electronics are haywire, with the ac blowing hot on one side and cold on the other and not starting with brand new batteries. Third, the brake system. . . Had the booster go out. Ford replaced and upon the drive back, it failed even worse locking my engine, smoke fromthe brakes being locked up. I had to tow back on my expense and rent a car for days. The replaced the booster, but I still have even worsening brake issues. Ford told me I need a new abs and master cylinder. It only did this after the 2 failed boosters. . . Now if I hit a bump or gravel while pressing the brakes, my brakes go out! I mean they fail! luckily I haven't hit anyone yet. It's off and on but happens with no warning. The pedal goes all the way to the floor and there's the constant sound of hissing and air. I have contacted Ford multiple times which is horrible and taken to the dealership where I leave with no problems until the next unexpected blow out on the brakes. All you have to do is google this model and there are tons and tons of reports of complaints for the same issue. Ford should stand by their products and fix to avoid injuries, death and lawsuits. I had no issues with my car until other than the initial brake booster failure, until my car was left with smoke all under my car from the second brake booster. I got one thing fixed only to have major problems after. How is that fair? obviously Ford didn't fix correctly and/or gave me bad equipment which burned my system up. Now I need to pay for my abs to be fixed? shame on Ford! very dangerous. Will never buy Ford again. At least the foreign cars stand by their products. Buyers beware the Edge is tainted.

10 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2019

Brake failure on a 2013 Ford Edge. I applied my brakes as I approached stopped traffic on I-26 east bound. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor without stopping the car completely. I pumped the brakes and it slowly began to stop. Fortunately I did not hit the car in front of me. I pulled off to the side of the road. The brake pedal remained at the floor of the car. There was no warning that there was a problem with the brakes. My vehicle has never had any type of brake problem. It has around 50,000 miles. I had the car taken to my mechanic to determine the problem. In the mean time I looked to see if there was a recall for this problem. I did find a number of complaints from Edge owners that experienced this same problem but no recall. This is an extremely dangerous situation that needs to be addressed by Ford. My mechanic later informed me that both the brake booster and the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The location of these parts requires a lot of labor to replace them. Total cost $1,375.

11 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2019

In August 2019 I suddenly experienced lis of brake boost and brake pedal went to the floor. I was able to pump up the brakes and drove to the local Ford dealership where I was given an appointment to evaluate and repair. Dealership reported it was not a booster issue, but abs sensor not communicating with ecm. Dealership reported they reprogrammed and was working fine. Less than a week later I experienced the same issue. Dealership checked and found no codes issue and started they believed it to be master cylinder failure, but they weren't sure. They suggested replacing parts step by step until they found the faulty part, starting with master cylinder. Master cylinder replaced, same issue. Electronic module tested and found to be okay. Now they have no idea. From reading online posts, it's obvious there is an issue with this model brake system. Contacted Ford customer service and they won't address issue. Local dealership is james hodge. Help!!.

12 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

Car took very long to stop. I had to keep pumping the brakes to make it stop. If I just kept the brakes pressed down without pumping the car kept rolling. This happened whenever I had to stop at a light or a stop sign. I brought the car to a Ford dealer and they said it was the master cylinder. I had that replaced and I still had the same problem. I went on a website and found out there was a recall on Ford Edges that was exactly my problem and it said it was caused by a leak in the brake booster. I brought the car back to Ford and they replaced the brake booster and this solved the problem. However I was told that my car was not part of the recall so I had to pay for all of the costs.

13 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Trying to stop at 35-40 mph at a red light, brake pedal went all the way to the floor, had to step very hard on the brake pedal to stop. After that I felt a spongy brake pedal, hissing sound, and abnormal braking movement. Dealership initial diagnosis; brake booster & master cylinder, at a cost of 1600 could not figure out why they still have a spongy pedal, now asking for 800 more for a abs module. Complete defective brake system from Ford! 2013 Ford Edge 125,000 miles.

14 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2019

Vehicle has been in for brake repair numerous times. Last was master cylinder. Most recent is brakes going to floor with air sound coming from inside. Local dealer is always booked 2 weeks. I do have extended warranty & have spent a fortune on deductibles for brake issues. I travel for work in all types of mountainous conditions. After reading there are 144 complaints on 2013 model this is definitely a dangerous issue. Needs recall.

15 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

When applying the brakes, the pedal feels spongey and the car feels as if it is not going to stop. In order to make it stop, you have to apply more pressure on the brakes than normal. I first noticed it while I was backing out of a parking space, but it also occurs any time you have to come to a complete stop. We took it in to a repair shop and was told that the power boost was bad and that this is a known issue with the Edge. We then took it in to a Ford dealership and confirmed that it was the power boost problem and the master cylinder might also be affected. While searching online, we found that it is indeed a known problem with 2010-2013 Ford Edge. Our complaint is that if this is an issue with these cars, why isn't there a recall? this is a dangerous problem. We also found that Ford will cover the repairs for this problem only if you have an extended warranty. Unfortunately, we do not have one and therefore must pay the entire cost for a defect that is known to occur with these cars. My 2013 Edge has only about 50,000 miles and I feel that Ford should be recalling and fixing this dangerous flaw. The consumer should not have to pay for Ford's manufacturing defect. Coverage should be extended to all Ford Edge owners whose cars have this manufacturing defect regardless.

16 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2018

June 29, 2018 - brake pedal has to be pushed to floor to stop; July 2: brake booster replaced July problem began again; 7/17 air in line cleared; July problem began again - 7/27 brake booster replaced again: August 7: problem began again after driving 500 miles but 3 service departments of Ford dealers couldn't get me in to check it out at this date; I drove the car with the spongey brake - not knowing if the car would be able to stop or if the brakes would go totally out at any moment! 8/31 silsbee Ford service dept. Called to say I could bring the car in; on 9/7/2018 they called to say the car needs hcl module; as of 9/9 no replacement has been made awaiting decision by Ford. This is a dangerous problem which could result in accidents and/or deaths. It is a common problem affecting Ford Edges for 2013 - for the brake booster, master cylinder & hcu - module of the abs! the vehicles need to be recalled for the abs brake systems to be totally replaced before deaths result! Ford Edge owners are afraid to drive their vehicles! Ford motor company will lose future business as a result of the dangers from this issue! documentation of problem is attached.

17 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2016

While driving to work on 9/8/16 on a mail thoroughfare, I had to hit the brakes hard because a vehicle pulled out it front of me. Since that time the brake pedal has been inconsistent (firm/soft) and when it goes soft it requires more stopping distance. In addition when stopped at a light or stop sign and pressing down on the brake pedal there is a squealing sound coming from under the dash/firewall area. After taking vehicle to local mechanic it was determined to be the brake booster/vacuum pump attached to the master cylinder that has failed.
