general problems of the 2013 Ford Edge - part 1

Driver door says ajar even when shut, inside lights stay on. Fuel indicator says ajar stays on. Backup camera shows upside down.

Climate control system turns off automatically without driver input. This causes loss of heating or cooling while driving and requires repeated manual reactivation. Issue occurs randomly while driving and has happened multiple times. Restarting the vehicle does not consistently resolve the problem.

The vehicle’s touchscreen activates functions on its own without being touched (“ghost touch”). While driving, the screen intermittently selects menus, changes settings, and activates features without driver input. This causes distraction and requires the driver to look away from the road to correct unintended changes. The issue occurs unpredictably and repeatedly, while in motion and standing still, indicating a malfunction of the touchscreen or related electronic system and presents a safety concern due to driver distraction.

It is my rear view camera. I would put the vehicle in reverse and it will sometimes start to work and than it will shut off and a message comes across saying I need to contact dealership. It will sometimes come up and be upside down or I will put the vehicle in reverse and the back up camera just flashes while in use. I have not taken the vehicle to the shop. I have called and they said it sounds electrical. But the recall you just released on 2015 Ford Edges for the back up camera is the same thing that is going on with my vehicle and I have a 2013.

Last week my back up camera said there was a system error and only works sometimes now. I almost hit somebody because it started showing it was working and then it went black and then wouldn’t work again. I also have a video where it starts to show me backing up and then cuts out to being black and seeing contact your dealership. I did contact the dealership and they said there is not a recall in regards to my car specifically.

Rear view (back up) camera works only on and off. The screen goes black and a warning to contact the dealer shows up. It is getting more and more frequent lately. I am having a very hard time in crowded parking lots. Now it has stopped completely.

Driving on the highway at night when suddenly the door alarm rings, dome light turned on causing driver to lose focus/control. Was driving at 60mph when the sensor faulted. The alarm/notification turns on at random times causing the vehicle to have the light stay on and drain battery. This is causing the driver unsure if the door is properly closed and risking the door opening in case of an accident. Problem has persisted.

The screen just completely goes white off and on no matter when you’re driving. I turned the car off and on, and it still would do it. . I don’t know why it happens. Sometimes it also won’t even connect to bluetooth. . I can turn my phone off and on, and it still won’t connect to it. . Something is definitely wrong with it.

My warning sign on the screen always says door ajar, when it is shut, causing me to have to drive with inside lights on, and the bell ringing every so often reminding me, my door is a jar, for the intire trip.

I currently have an few issues to report. When I press on the brakes, they make an air whistling sound and there’s nothing noticeably wrong with them. I’m also having problems with electrical on my screen and it won’t always connect with my phone and it also delays on the screen when it’s powering on or off. My tires have been leaking air since I purchased my vehicleand when I took it in, they said Ford mechanics said they sealed the valves but right when I got it back, it gave me a warning that I had low air pressure in my tires once again and my vehicle tires appeared like they were still low on air. I constantly have to fill them with air when I drive it. Every day they leak. But my biggest concern is the electrical and the brakes. I don’t know the exact date on when the electrical started acting up. I’m also curious if there’s been a recall on anything to do with the defrost on the windows because my windows do not defrost very well in our cold climate. I’m also wondering about the headlights. They seem like they’re not bright enough we’re just strange because they’re clear and there’s nothing obstructing them that’s noticeable. For safety I believe they should be a lot brighter than they are. I have not been in any car accidents and no one hit my vehicle.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the messages that the front driver's side door was ajar, and to shift to park(p) were displayed. The contact stated that upon slamming the front driver's side door several times, the vehicle responded as needed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the failure could be related to the door latch assembly or to the electrical wiring. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under an unknown recall. The failure mileage was approximately 171,000.

The rear back up camera intermittantly fails on this vehicle. About 70% of the time, it displays a black screen. The screen will display "contact dealership. " this has been occurring for approx. 1 year.

If you hit a pot hole or a bump on the road the brake pedal makes a weird sound and then the brake goes all the way to the floorboard when trying to apply brakes and doesn't come to an immediate stop. The wrench light has come on or the symbol that has the car and wavy lines for traction control will turn on all of a sudden and then the car shuts off in the middle of the road while driving putting my life in danger. It also doesn't accelerate all of a sudden and loses power while driving putting my life in danger. When you put the car in park the car still jerks forward even after the car is in park and off. It also makes a clicking sound as if it goes into gear after you have turned the car off and park has been engaged. The headlights keep shutting off while driving or dimming in their own. The motormount screws came undone and I had to get it repaired. The power steering keeps losing the fluid and makes a loud grinding noise especially during cold weather. Makes a loud whistle sound like a turbo jet engine when it's cold and you start driving. The rear driverside door latch keeps making the car alert that the door is open when it is not. The recall only shows door latch for a different door and dealership won't repair with recall notice because the notice doesn't say all door latches and is specific to a different door. The car is unsafe to drive but it's the only car I have and the last time I took it to get repairs they kept it for a month and my it off pocket costs were close to $1600 dollars which put me in a financial strain. I can not afford to be without my car for that long again and pay for things that shouldn't be falling apart and putting my child's and my life in danger.

The rearview camera does not function properly. Most of the time, it shows a blank screen or nothing at all. Sometimes it tells me to contact the dealership. Other times, it shows the camera view but upside down. It puts myself and others at risk because I can't see clearly when I am backing up. The problem is covered by a known recall. However, my vehicle is not covered by the recall.

The rear driver side door ajar light well come on when the door is closed and not making my doom lights come off and stay on and running down my battery.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The driver was able to steer the vehicle unto the shoulder and restart the engine. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated normally. The failure had occurred on three separate occasions. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 111,000.

Back left door(rear driver) ajar when door is clearly closed.

Vehicle will not idle at the correct rpms. Replaced battery and alternator had everything checks by a certified mechanic. The battery light will come on while driving and the car will begin to stall out while driving. Cannot run ac or any electric component in the car. Really scary when you have kids in the car driving down the road and it begins to shut down but still going the same rate of speed.

Window switch on driver’s door quit working. Switch for rear passenger windows also not working. Front passenger window switch works. Possible cause is faulty wiring harness in the door (only one blue wire comes loose from the plug, causing the driver’s window switch to go dead. ).

My daughter was driving the car and the vehicle stalled out. A warning light for low oil pressure came on however the oil was change 1 week ago. This is very dangerous because she was on a very busy highway. Also when putting gas in the car it sometimes will not start.

I have ran my VIN on multiple site and the dealership said the did their inspection on the vehicle. The VIN is showing that there is no recalls on this car. However we noticed things going wrong with the Edge. Even though we bought the car as is, this shouldn't be happening if they did things right. The back up camera saying to contact the dealership, we have to go into the settings and switch from park to drive to somewhat fix the problem. The sync and myford touch has been update as of last week, to 3. 10. However the system will switch songs, inputs and even go into the settings while the vehicle is on; without anyone touching the screen. The dealership has told me that they put in a new battery and that everything is fine when we bought it. Its not making any sense, I dont believe that they did the inspection the correct way or they wouldve noticed the issues and wouldve been resolved. I have even went so far as to take it to the dealer and show him but of course my car decided to work in that moment, until I left.

I was driving when my car suddenly shut off while I was on the freeway!! the steering wheel became locked and I couldn’t even steer it off the road. It started stalling while driving too.

All 4 door ajar sensor are not showing that the doors are close which does not allow you to lock ,which also cause the battery to be drained due to the interior lights remaining powerd as if the doors are open !!!!! this is a personal saftey issue for children and adults ,and a theft issue due to locks not locking !!!!!!!!!!! 500. 00 dollars a door is insane for a stupid design !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ford needs to fix this at their expense irregardless of age or miles or number of owners for these vehicles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! get it fixed !!!!.

Car started shaking when I started to slow down at a red light and then loss power in the road. This continued to happen. Finally engine light came on I took it to get scanned came back 02 sensor. I will take it back to the dealer on Tuesday. My car just shutting off with two kids in the backseat going down the road is not okay and a huge safety issue.

The backup camera works when it feels like it and the monitor glitches when it is working as well as things appear upside down and blurred when in reverse. The camera stays on for a minute after gear is placed in drive. The radio goes in and out. The screen freezes up after disconnecting a hands free call. The brakes feel like they’re locking up when pressed and makes a clunking sound.

I have a 2013 Ford Edge and I was driving at 40=45 mph and when I came up to a light the brake peddle went to the floor and was very hard to stop. The result was me having to leave the road to the right to avoid a collision. I took it to Ford who stated it needed a brake booster and said my vehicle doesn't qualify for an extended warranty on the booster. Car had 88k miles at time of incident. Prior to the incident no lights or signs. After this I hear a loud hissing noise from under dash.

Driver door closed sensor malfunctioning. Can’t get to go off so not sure if door is actually closed or not.

Due to the door latch issue and my interior light staying on I am unable to see at night when driving. It has caused issues with my battery and I have had to replace it a few times. Why isn't Ford recalling this?.

The driver side passenger "door ajar" sensor stays on constantly and is unsafe because we aren't sure if the door is truly open or not? we are scared to have passengers sit on that side of the vehicle for fear of the door flying open and causing injury by falling out or other injury because the sensor does not tell us accurately as to whether the door is truly closed all the way or not. It also drains the battery over time due to constantly being on. This problem has been going on for 2 years. We had it looked at by a mechanic. We were told they can replace the sensor, but it would likely go out again because this is a manufacturer defect, and a well known problem for Ford Edges as well as other Ford models, but they refuse to issue a recall. This is extremely unsafe. The other safety concern I have is the need for a recall on our VIN specific rear view camera. The screen went blank and then, when it came back on, the image is flipped upside down and has vertical lines across the screen making it extremely difficult to see. This is a crucial component to safety. This happened approximately 1 year ago. This is extremely unsafe as we can back over and kill someone if we don't go super slow and intensely observe the camera while in reverse. This is even more dangerous in poorly lit places. There were no warnings or sensors indicating a problem with the camera. It just went blank and then permanently flipped the image upside down.

Doors are registered as open but are closed.

On 9-28-2022 I was driving about 45 mph when suddenly my car lost power. The wrench symbol appeared on the dash. I floored the gas pedal, pressed it completely to the floor, and the car sputtered off the road and out of traffic. It was terrifying.

My driver door ajar light comes on and stays on if you start the Ford Edge before shutting the door. If you turn off the car then shut the driver door wait a min then start the Edge then the door ajar light does not come on. And sometimes it doesn't matter the door ajar light comes on anyway. It has something to do with either the sensor or door latch. I believe it is unsafe cause you don't know if its just on or if your door is really shut as you drive around. Also when it on while you are driving when stopping at a red light the screen comes on telling you to put the car in park. It doesn't make since to me. I haven't had it looked at cause can't afford the service call. This started happening in sept 2022. The passenger door had the same problem and was fixed upon buying my Ford Edge. I don't have proof of it but I can show someone.

The first issue I am having is that the vehicle is telling me to put my car in park when it’s already in park. This has been going on for many months now. My second issue is when I fill my tank to full and try to start it, it has a hard time turning over. This has been going on for many months now. My third issue is that my front wipers will not turn off no matter what I do. And it’s been weeks. The fourth issue I have is that two of my tires keep leaking air since I have purchased a vehicle from the dealership and I have had it in and they claim they sealed it but they are still leaking. So I constantly have to fill them up with air. This has been going on since I bought it from the dealership.
