36 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2019

When flat towing behind RV vehicle goes into a wobble. Only way to stop the wobble is to come to a complete stop. Happened when entering road from shoulder also on a rough uneven road. Happened at slow speed 10 to 20 mph.

37 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2019

The adaptive steering fault service required light came on again. There is a TSB on this and the dealership replaced the steering wheel to fix it. Now it is coming on again with the new steering wheel and will need to go back to the dealer for service. It came on during a highway trip from new orleans to daytona and has stayed on ever since. The steering wheel is tilted left as a result.

38 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2019

This is the second failure of the adaptive power steering on my 2016 Edge sport with 22,500 miles on it. The first time was when the car had 8800 miles on it and Ford wound up replacing the whole steering wheel in August of 2017. This morning it happened again almost identically to the last time. I was backing out of a parking spot and all of the sudden the steering wheel out of nowhere turns 90 degrees to the left to where the top of the steering wheel now points to the right while driving straight. I have a appointment to bring to my Ford dealership on 1/31/19.

39 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2019

We are the original owners of the 2016 Edge. At approximately 48,000 miles, we heard a popping noise in the front suspension which progressed to a loud squeaking sound on bumps and turning. The local dealer could not duplicate the problem. At 54,000 miles, the vehicle started darting on uneven road surfaces (rapid shifts in directional stability, often changing lanes without warning). The local dealer said there were no TSB's on that problem and did not find a problem(!). I raised the front suspension myself and found the drivers ball joint almost ready to dislodge from the control arm. I replaced the lower control arm myself (I am a retired auto instructor) following Ford's recommendations. After an alignment, the vehicle drives considerably better but somehow not perfect. Note that there is still a clunking in the front suspension but there doesnt appear to be anything loose, although the passenger side lower ball joint appears to be looser than what I would expect for that year vehicle with that mileage (now just at 57,000 miles. ) this is a very dangerous condition which certainly should not happen on a vehicle with that few miles.

40 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2018

Lost control on my stearing driving to my work this morning. I was driving on straight road when I started expecting lost of stearing, car was almast start driving to the curb. I put on breaks and car wouldn't stop. Tryed to maneuver car to stop from going on curb and turning to oppositside but there was outcoming traffic, but was very unfortunate to control that is was still driving even I was pushing on the breaks and car went all the way to side of the opposite direction and flue to the field and drew there for 100-200 feet untill it is stopped. I was lucky survive, because there was electric pole and some uneven lamdscape that I culd been injured or even dead. Dangerous! can't explain fear I experienced this morning. Scheduled time with Ford at sawmill in dublin, ohio to check what is wrong with this car!.

41 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2018

Got an error message: "adaptive steering fault, need service", just after the manufacture warranty expired. Need to spend about 1. 8k to fix this. This seems to be a common issue for many 2016 Ford Edge sport. Really concern about the quality and safety of Ford cars. So disappointed.

42 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2018

I am continuing to document each occurrence of the adaptive steering fault service required light. By the time I get to the dealership they can't duplicate the problem and the vehicle will not hold the codes. The light goes out. It came on October 28, 2018 at 9pm at 21870 miles. I went back to my vehicle five minutes later and it was out. I drove to work this morning and the light came on again. I was driving around 5/10 mph and the steering wheel was tilted to the right despite the wheels being straight. If I can't take it do the dealer and have them address it, I'm not sure what else to do. There is a technical service bulletin on this to replace the steering wheel but I am told that since the vehicle won't retain the codes when the light goes out, they can't do anything.

43 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2018

Adaptive steering fault. Vehicle was stationary and transmission in park mileage 33205. 9. Upon starting, the warning message appeared. After acknowledgment of message, the dash light remained on. Immediately drove to dealer for service and showed warning to service manager. Was not able to have a technician review issue as to lack of availability. Scheduled next available appointment, 6 days later. Advised that situation is safe to drive. Light went off upon shutdown. Warning appeared again at 33324. 1 miles, stationary in park. Returned to dealer durin appointment. Advised after technician assessment that I have a faulty adaptive steering component require steering wheel replacement. Need to have Ford authorization for repair, rescheduled for service repair. Advised that there is no vehicle loaner for this service. Also, advised that it is safe to drive with this condition. Vehicle has exhibited a stiffness in steering since this incident has started. Confidence on vehicle's safety is comprised.

44 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2018

The adapative steering fault service required light keeps coming on. It's come on several times but since the dealership can't or won't fix it because they can't duplicate the problem and light goes out and apparently does not store codes, I've begun the process to document the dates, times and mileage it comes on and going forward will take a picture every time it happens. It happened on October 3, 2018 at 930 @ 21,499 miles as I was pulling into the dealership. They told me they could "see" it or get trouble codes. On October 11, 2018 at 0900 and 1620. It went out when I drove at lunch on the 11th and then came back on when I was driving home. There is a technical service bulletin on it but they refuse to do anything. I'm petrified to drive a vehicle with less than 22,000 miles on it and Ford does not seem to care.

45 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

The adaptive steering fault service require light keeps coming on. When trying to get the dealerships to look into it I am told it won't show an codes or they don't see the light. I don't know how this is possible. They say they can't duplicate and by the time it comes on again it will turn off after so many "key" cycles. Apparently, there is a known issue but they still won't do anything to fix it. It makes the steering wheel crooked and seem like it's steering wrong. I just hope the steering doesn't fail while driving it.

46 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

Takata recall, for the past two months I have had a warning message come up "adaptive steering fault service required" the service that is required, is to replace my steering wheel. Adaptive steering was placed on all 2016 Ford Edge titanium, now I'm worried about the safety of my car, because there is a fault and the only way to fix the fault is to pay and replace a steering wheel on a car that's less then 5 years old.

47 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2017

Steering wheel randomly goes off center, sometime more sometimes less, as if the adaptive steering is malfunctioning. The car continues to track straight and has a proper alignment. No error codes or warnings are shown.

48 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2017

Vehicle was in motion on a county highway approximately at 45 or 50 mph. Pat steering and vehicle also may have lost power resulting in crossing into left lane and striking a tree. Yes, there was deer in the area at the time but they in no way. Caused the accident. Appeared I had no steering or possibly brakes. Struck an ash tree head on, passenger side total loss of vehicle. Spent 3 weeks in the hospital, fortunate to still be alive!! reporting this as it is definitely a safety issue.

49 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2017

While at slow speed and turning (I. E. , in a parking lot), the "adaptive steering fault/service required" light will occasionally come on and the steering wheel feels as if something released or switched inside of it. The steering wheel has realigned slightly off-center several times but the system resets most of the time after turning the vehicle off and restarting it several minutes later. Twice now though, the steering wheel stayed at ninety degrees while driving straight. Local Ford dealership completed a software/code reset twice, so unknown if it is an electronic or mechanical issue. The dealership is refusing to acknowledge information advising steering wheel replacement. The initial diagnosis was under warranty at around 26k miles; second reset had to be done at around 46k. The fault seems to activate only if moving at five mph or less and turning the wheel in either direction.

50 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2017

Adaptive steering fault service required light keeps coming on and then goes away when shut off and started.

51 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2017

Adaptive steering issue. Light has intermittently came on and off, but yesterday the wheel was at 90 degrees to drive straight. Seems like safety could be an issue. Especially if you were at a light and the steering wheel was straight and you side swiped the car in the next lane. This morning the light was off and I'm currently at the dealer have them check and hopefully resolve the issue. I purchased this vehicle for my family and I want to ensure safety is not an issue.

52 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2017

My 2016 Ford Edge sport with 8745 miles on it is experiencing adaptive power steering issues. At approx. 5000 miles the warning light starting coming on and off intermittently and as of yesterday the light is now steady and the steering wheel is now not aligned with the direction the wheels are pointed while driving. This feel unsafe and I cant get Ford to look at it until Aug 23, 2017.

53 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

Adapative steering fault during normal driving. Upon taking to dealer they have advised this is not safe to drive until steering wheel replaced. Wheel is on back order until 8/31/2017, this will be 7 weeks after I turened car into dealer.

54 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2017

Car steering hard to keep wheel straight. Trouble light indicates adaptive sterring fault. This should be under warrantee, as this is happening to many people.

55 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2017

Takata recall- adaptive steering fault-my vehicle was purchased on November 16, 2016 and in that time its been to the dealership 3 times for an adaptive steering fault warning that came on shortly after purchasing the vehicle, to which no one could figure out why. By my third attempt to bring this to the dealership they finally told me that had to replace the whole steering wheel. The dealership then showed me a notice that was sent out back before I bought my car that this was an issue regarding the steering this notice was dated November 3, 2016. I originally bought this vehicle for its safety due to having a 5 year old and currently pregnant, then to find out that this had a defect before purchasing that I was unaware of and yet lead to believe it was still safe. Then I received a recall for the drivers side airbags not fully filling up and those had to be replaced. I have called back in June when I received the letter and have been told that they are still waiting for the parts to come in. It is now September 26 with no answers on when these two will be fixed for a 4th time. I was told that when replacing the steering wheel I might lose out on some of the technology that I purchased my car with and I expect some kind of compensation for this. The steering defect warning would randomly come on, sometimes when I turned the car on, sometimes when I turned the wheel, sometimes would turn off and then randomly come back on. The dealership did do a software update which changed the feel of the steering wheel completely and the warning came back on two days later. As you can see this brand new vehicle isn't even a year old and has been in the shop more than my used car. Every time I have to leave my car and they refused to give me a loaner car making me miss work every time.

56 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2017

Parked car and shut down. Upon starting car and driving off, the steering wheel was cocked 45 degrees to the left. Dealership realigned but lock to lock was not the same. Dealership claimed it was steering rack but upon investigation determined adaptive steering problem. Car needed more the several full resets before it worked.

57 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2017

Adaptive steering fault error message. Loud click upon turning steering wheel, wheel is not centered when driving straight. Dealership states needs to see error message when it occurs but when shutting vehicle off message disappears and sometimes take several vehicle restarts to get steering wheel to center.

58 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2017

Adaptive steering fault - intermittent issue that causes steering to feel very twitchy at highway speed or lethargic at slow speed. This has now happened on multiple occasions. Cel is not stored on the computer, dealer has no way of replicating the fault unless it happens at the dealer. Fault comes and goes as it pleases. Fault normally happens after car is parked and turned on and goes away at some point.

59 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2017

Displays 'adaptive steering fault-service required' on dash. Have been told by the dealer, titus-will Ford in tacoma, wa that the steering wheel needs to be replaced but no parts are available. This first happened on 4/12/2017 and called dealer, was told no problem bring it in when convenient, took it in on June,9, 2017 when I was told steering wheel needs replaced but no parts available and have since had the date of availability slid ever since.

60 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2017

Adaptive steering fault service required dashboard message appeared when backing up. Steering is off 90 degrees.

61 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2017

Approximately 6000 miles after purchase of the new vehicle it began to experience intermittent adaptive steering faults. I could find no pattern to the faults appearance or disappearance. The Ford dealer attempted to fix the issue 3 separate occasions during which times the vehicle was out of service for around 4 weeks. The total duration of the period between when the fault warning first appeared and the problem was ostensibly fixed is closer to 5 -6 weeks. I was forced to drive the vehicle (due to the need for personal and work related transportation) for much of that time during which period I was very concerned for my safety. The fault has not returned since the last repair attempt when the dealer replaced the steering wheel. However since the fault was intermittent I cannot be sure that the issue will resurface at a later date. When the steering fault first appeared I did some research and it appears that the problem is fairly frequent for late model Fords that have the so-called adaptive steering feature. . Read more...

62 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2017

Started with intermittent "adaptive steering fault. Service required" warning which now is constant. I took the car to the dealer (capitol Ford in san jose CA) and they told me they had no time to look at the problem now and to make a service appointment. I called to make a service appointment on March 28 2017. The earliest they could see the car is may 8 2017. . Read more...

63 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2017

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. After restarting the vehicle, the power steering malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. While at the dealer, the vehicle was restarted and the steering operated as normal. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 11,000.

64 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

I bought my Edge brand new in late July of 2016 and had not experienced any problems up until March of 2017 (one month ago). When the "adaptive steering fault. Service required!" light first started coming on, it was generally just seconds after starting my car, but always while I was turning the wheel. For the next couple of weeks, it was coming on an average of 2 to 3 times per week and it would turn off within five or so minutes of my drive. My service light has come on everyday now for the past five days without even having to turn my wheel. Once my car is started - the message pops up. And rather than turning off a few minutes or miles into my drive, it remains on for the entirety of the drive. I called today in hopes of getting it serviced but unfortunately cannot be fit in for an entire week. I left a voicemail with the service manager to ensure that my car was safe to drive until then but have not yet received a call back. Fingers crossed!.

65 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2017

My Ford Edge was purchased new in August 2016. I am starting to receive the following message on the dashboard intermittently, "adaptive steering fault service required" (solid yellow warning). Warning appears at various times, when I first start up, while I am driving and also just before I shut down.

66 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2017

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the adaptive steering fault error occurred while driving. The contact had to manually steer the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,984.

67 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2017

My Ford Edge was purchased new in July 2016 (build date of 5/16). In starting up the vehicle on Jan. 15 2017 with 6,302 miles on the odometer, the "adaptive steering fault service required" light came on (solid yellow warning). This stayed on for about 15 miles of a 22 mile trip, then went out. I parked the car at a valet service. When the car was returned to me later, I noticed the "adaptive steering fault service required" light was on again, and the steering wheel was now turned 90 degrees to the right in order to drive straight ahead (blocking my view of the instrument cluster). This situation continued for the entire 22 mile trip back home. During this time, the steering felt normal other than for the position of the steering wheel (which was awkward to say the least). The warning light went out the next morning and the steering wheel returned to it's properly aligned position! the warning light came back on the next morning, but so far the steering wheel has not changed from it's proper position.

68 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2016

Adaptive steering - service required - light came on - Ford dealer applied a software update which failed. Now are replacing steering wheel. Deemed unsafe to drive. Others have had the same issue and multiple steering wheel replacements.

69 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2016

'adaptive steering fault service required' warning light used to come on at random, now it's there permanently. I took some photos of the instrument cluster to illustrate - will attach a file. Happened for the first time 12/15/2016. Stays on permanently since 1/16/2017.
