2 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/02/2024

The adaptive steering fault light came on. My steering wheel is slightly turned to the right. I took it into the dealership for service and troubleshooting for this issue. As far as I can tell, there is not a recall for this issue, however I am reading about numerous incidents where this is happening in particular with the Ford Edge. The part is back ordered and the repair quote is $4,090, which is outrageous. In the interim, I was advised not to drive the vehicle because it could completely fail. I am completely disappointed in Ford. I bought my 2018 Ford Edge used and I love the car, but a $4k repair for a 6 year old car with about 55k miles is outrageous. Ford should issue a recall for this problem.

3 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/21/2024

New brake booster, new brakes put on 6 months ago, abs now has problems. Car starts to skid when braking, only 1 brake works, car only has about 140,000 miles on it. When on the freeway at about 60-65 mph, car will start to lose power and shake until you hit the brakes really hard 2 or 3 times, no accident yet but if not fixed, it will happen. Brake pedal goes down to the floor will sitting at a red light or at a stop light.

4 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/24/2024

Forward collision warning stopped working which in turn caused the cruise control to not work. Then the pscm (power steering control module) just went out all at once. Was driving and it showed warning on the dash. I drove on and parked. When I went to start back, it started fine but couldn’t move steering wheel. I’m seeing this has been a problem with other owners and the same year model. Ford has done a recall on Edge for years around 2020 but not that particular year. Gonna cost $2772. 59 to fix at dealership. Always owned Ford but very disappointed how this happened with very little warning at all. If it had locked up while I was driving it would have been a major accident.

5 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2022 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/19/2023

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the vehicle was significantly close to the vehicle in front of him; however, the forward collision avoidance system failed to engage. A message indicating that the forward collision avoidance sensors had failed was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to the detachment of the bracket attached to the front bumper. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the adaptive cruise control mode was inoperable while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who made the same assessment and charged a repair fee. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist because the failure might have been caused by a frontal collision; however, the contact stated that the front of the vehicle did not show signs of a front impact collision. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.

6 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/01/2022

The start/stop technology works from time to time. Example. At a complete stop icon appears and show’s technology off- the device is not off. At times the technology will engage at a complete stop then suddenly turns off with in seconds. At times when this device is on one can hear a rattling noise. When leaving from a complete stop and applying the gas petal lightly the vehicle jumps/hop roughly 6” to 1’ without adding additional pressure to the gas petal. When using the advanced cruise control with no vehicle in front of mine and have set the mileage which can been seen on the control panel the vehicle will keep the mileage speed for 3-6 seconds then decrease in speed up to 10-12 miles. If applying the brake when using cruise control and re-engage the speed (res button) the vehicle speeds up continuously at a very fast unsafe pace. The advance lane shift will warn me (turn red based on which lane it thinks I have crossed) I have steered out of my lane (low setting) but haven’t cross any lanes. Will use turn signals to change lane and lane shift turns red again to inform me I have steered out of my lane. This should not happen. Back up camera at times screen is black. Rear sensors when backing up even with large objects (persons- adult, another vehicle, garbage truck) will not notify me of objects. Now I can see the objects and don’t proceed but the sensors don’t go off and there are four. Brought vehicle to akins Ford in GA. Went for observation ride. The foreman noticed many issues including cruise control, after braking- SUV leaping, sensors, backup camera. But felt there were no safety issues.

7 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/10/2022

About a week and a half ago, we started getting an error message that the adaptive steering fault requires service. We contacted our local Ford dealer who says it could be an electrical issue. But can't see us until Nov 1st. Additionally ,when driving straight, the steering wheels ( Ford logo) is turned to the left. It is worrisome but the dealer says it's safe to drive. I don't think so. In doing our research,we've found that this seems to be an issue. I shouldn't have to pay for theses repairs whether through my pocket or through my extended warranty. Which will be out of pocket either way, because I pay for this through my car note and would have a deductible.

8 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/15/2022

Was driving on freeway, in the middle lane, and card just started slowing down for no reason, pressed gas and it still was slowing down. It felt like the brakes were being applied even though I was just pressing the gas. Finally it stopped and I turned the car off and then back on and the problem went away. I think it was the adaptive cruise control and not the collision avoidance because no warnings came u on the dash. Luckily the cars behind me were able to stop without rear ending me but they sure were angry with me.

9 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/01/2022

I am told my apim module needs to be replaced. My touch screen will go black and then come back on. I am unable to use handsfree phone due to system not staying connected to my bluetooth. The radio will not turn off or on and sometimes will come on and be blaring while driving. The gps does not work at all and if it decides to even show up on the screen will not follow streets at all. The warning sounds and lights will go off randomly while driving even if I am not close to something on the sides of my car. My backup cameras do not work all the time. The cruise control will not keep distance and will stop working randomly. The entire touch screen will not respond to any touch. These items are very distracting and unsafe at best. There has been no accidents to cause these problems. The manufacturer has not been able to help me locate any replacement parts despite pre-paying for the expensive module. I have been waiting 6 weeks without anyone being able to tell me when a module is expected. Meanwhile I do not know what else will stop working on my car. Ford has had a history of problems with the apim modules and there was even a class action suit that was won by the consumer for the same thing in Lincoln vehicles. I just want the part and for my car to be fixed.

11 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2021 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/15/2022

In Feb 2022 my dash produced a pre-collision assist not avaible and also a adaptive cruise not available sensor blocked see manual. When I tried to tap the button for cruise control it would show set speed , but wouldn't let me . I called ricart Ford in ohio and took it to them . They said it was the cruise control manual bracket had been damaged by outside force( a rock) and Ford wouldn't fix it. Mind you I have never hit anything with this vehicle. Ricart refused todo anything so I contacted Ford and they said take it to a different dealership . Took it to donley inohio they said a bird. Now the screen gltiches, the front camera doesn't work , the hatch will open and shut multiple times and when shutting the moon roof it will stop and go back . Then it made a sound and sounded like the gearbox, also car alarm went off , while running in park , nothing touching keys. Also the all wheel drive light will come on and say dissabled.

12 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/21/2022

While driving on the highway I experienced an apparent loss of power. It happened on an uphill grade and persisted for the duration of my trip – approximately 25 miles. The problem seemed to only occur on an uphill or flat road. The problem was not evident going downhill. Going home (approximately 32 miles) a few hours later the problem persisted. For about a week nothing happened, and then the problem reoccurred on the highway while coming back from dinner. Since then it has sporadically reappeared getting more frequent in the past few weeks. The symptoms are a complete loss of power, especially on an uphill grade. Lifting my foot off of the accelerator will temporarily bring power back, but trying to accelerate will cause the car to lose power again. If I continue to press the accelerator, the car will eventually come to a complete stop. Now the problem seems to happen at almost any speed and any road condition, uphill, flat, and occasionally downhill. During one occurrence I noticed something. When the problem happened I could see the brake light reflected on the rear window. So in addition to the loss of power, the brakes were activated without me applying the brakes. In discussions with the service manager at the dealership, we both believe the problem may be related in some way to the adaptive cruise control. It would make sense that if the adaptive cruise were activated not only would the brakes be applied, but the system would also shut down the engine. The car has been to the dealership four times for diagnosis. The last time they had it for more than a week. Neither they nor I can make the problem occur on demand.

13 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/24/2021

While driving my 2015 Ford Edge the power steering stopped working, the dashboard lite up. I stopped the SUV. And was unable to drive. I took it to my local garage and they pulled codes and diagnosed a bad power steering rack and pinon. Located a used one for $350. 00 had that installed but did not work! I had to buy a new one at a cost of $1492. 36 . The total cost between parts and labor was over $2500. 00 the garage that did all the work took it upon it self to take apart the original rack and pinon to see what happened to it?? they found that the seal between the two halves on the rack and pinon had failed and that water had gotten into the unit and ruined the electronics inside it. The recall on the bolts was done , but problem should up shortly after? I feel this is a flaw in the design of the unit and should be looked into by the NHTSA further, because this could of caused a serious crash!!.

14 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/11/2020

When both adaptive cruise control activated and lane keep assist activated, the Edge st bounces in between the lines on the road, instead keeping the car center in the lane. Lane keep assist censors and software need re-calibration.

15 Adaptive Cruise Control problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/04/2019

The collision avoidance and cruise control system has become intermittent, undependable and dangerous while driving. There is no way to tell when it is woking or not and to depend on it is asking for disaster. The dealer doesn't seem to have a clue as to what to do about it.
