1 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2014 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/09/2025

My vehicle started having a "spongy" pedal feel when I pushed on my brakes going to work and returning home. I was going to be taking my grandchildren to branson, mo, on Thursday morning, [xxx], and was able to get marvin merritt, mechanic, to look at my vehicle before leaving to make sure we would be okay traveling. Marvin notified me that my brake booster needed replace and it was not safe to travel. I made other arrangements to go to branson. When I got back I paid marvin for services rendered and got my letter from the Ford motor company dated March 2024. I took my letter, the invoice from marvin merritt and turned it into friendly Ford dealership / service man, derrick and he filed a claim for me and said he did not see any reason why they would deny my claim based on the information I turned in. I waited 4 week, calling weekly for updates, before being told my claim was being denied. Derrick gave me the following number to call 1-800-392-3673 and they stated they would not honor the warrenty because it was not fixed at a Ford dealership. I asked for an email or mailing address so I could send my information to them and was denied. She stated she would give me a claim number which was case # [xxx]. And I shared the following information on the phone. 1. “I received Ford’s March 2024 letter stating that if my vehicle had exceeded 150,000 miles, coverage would continue through November 30, 2025. My vehicle had exceeded that mileage, so I relied on this written coverage. ” 2. “I had the brake booster repaired on July 11, 2025—well within the coverage period Ford outlined. Despite this, my claim was denied. ” 3. “I am requesting Ford to honor its written commitment and reimburse the cost of my repair. Given that this matter involves a brake system safety issue, I trust Ford will resolve this promptly. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/16/2025

The adas system has caused erratic and extremely unsafe behavior on multiple occasions. This behavior includes the car slamming on the brakes at high snd low speeds on clear sections of roadway in what appears to be attempts to avoid a shadow or imaginary object in the road. The car has also swerved to avoid a shadow on a tree lined street. Most recently this automatic emergency braking occurred at 70 mph on an interstate with following traffic behind the vehicle nearly causing a high speed rear end accident. On the same trip, the lane keeping assist guided the vehicle beyond the striping toward the road Edge and has attempted to have the car change planes while traversing across a crossover for an intersecting road. Regaining control of the vehicle in all of these incidents has required aggressive actions on the part of the driver to resist/mitigate the braking or steering decisions of the car. The car was purchased with 89k miles on it 5 months ago. The vehicle has not yet been taken to dealer to report or investigate this issue which has also occurred with our 2020 Ford explorer.

Failure Date: 04/15/2025

Probable power brake booster failure, in a panic stop attempt when another motorist ran a red light the vehicle brake pedal became very hard and did not want to stop the vehicle. Other instances include spongy and soft pedal going to the floor with very poor braking. This vehicle was included in fomoco customer satisfaction program 13n02 but did not exhibit these symptoms until just recently. 7 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/22/2024

Putting the car in drive and would drive a few feet suddenly, all the panel lights ( check engine, abs, hazard control, electric parking brake,) literally every light on the panel would turn on and engine would stall causing the steering to become hard to control. This happened 3 times within a 2 week span then, I brought it into dealership and was told my coolant had leaked into my cylinders causing the engine to become ruined and that’s why I was having the problems with the engine and steering. My car has only 59000 miles.

8 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/03/2024

The forward collision warning system became inoperative because of a failed electronic module. The dealership indicated that the self test ipma code u3009-49 test diagnostic called for the ipma replacement and programing. The failure of this component endangers pedestrians, other vehicles and passengers by failing to stop the vehicle when an imminent collision is about to occur. Given the 63,000 kilometres of this vehicle when the module failed, its expected life of 250,000 kilometres, the cost of replacing this component during its life, at more than 20% of the purchase price of the vehicle, is ridiculously high.

9 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/14/2024

There is a csp 13n02 regading an issue my vehicle currently experincing and is at the dealer for repairs. Im being told Ford issued this csp for customers with the 2010-2014 Ford Edge but his VIN was not included. I'm being quoted out of pocket almost 2 grand for this repair. My break pedal goes all the way down to the floor bed having to put a lot of effort in stopping the vehicle. Per the csp 13n02 if your vehicle is not serviced, the tear will eventually expand and the pedaleffort required to stop the vehicle will gradually increase. However, in all cases, the fundamental vehicle braking system remains functional. In the interest of customer satisfaction, Ford motor company is extending. The limited warranty on the brake booster to ten (10) years or 150,000 miles from the warranty start date of your vehicle, whichever occurs first. This is a one-time repair program. If your vehicle has already exceeded the mileage limit, this coverage will last through November 30, 2025.

10 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/10/2023

I was driving the Ford Edge and the roads were a little slick so I was driving very slow. I was about 2 blocks from my house when I needed to engage the brakes to come to a complete stop, which happened to be going downhill toward a stop sign that intersected with a freeway off ramp. Both the brakes and abs failed to engage and I hit a guard rail across the intersection. This caused significant damage to my vehicle and was very lucky that no one was hurt. The "check brake system" only came up after I ran into the guard rail, which was also the only time I needed to fully engage the brake to come to a full stop. The shop confirmed that the accident would not have damaged the brakes.

16 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

Driving down a private dirt road, at about 8mph the dash went red, alarms went off and almost instantly the car slammed on its own breaks. Nothing and nobody around. It scared me but I continued on. Not even 2 minutes later it did the exact same thing. Red dash, alarm, breaks. All before I could even register in my head what was happening. It was taken by rollback to the shop where we are being told “we can’t recreate the issue” again, this was down a private lane no one and nothing around. I got out the 2nd time and observed under and around the car and there was nothing. If this were to occur on the road it could potentially put mine and my children’s lives in danger as they are almost always with me. I also have teens learning to drive and had this happened to them, it’s untelling what the consequences could have been. I am completely terrified to drive this car again.

17 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/28/2023

Under acceleration the vehicle will sometimes enter into limp mode. Vehicle will violently brake and come to a halt and the driver can only accelerate up to +/-5mph to be able to pull off to the side of the road. The deceleration when this happens is sudden and violent. During this event the steering wheel is difficult to turn. All dash warning and fault lights flash during the malfunction. You have to pull over, shut the vehicle off, and then restart. This has happened with our two kids in the vehicle while merging onto a freeway. I have brought it to Ford 4 times. The first time they said a harness was loose and they fixed it. Other times they blamed my use of a narrower diameter winter tire, but it happens with the stock wheels as well. The malfunction continues to happen. They have not been able to duplicate the issue, so they asked me to drive around with a obd2 scanner attached. When the malfunction happens, no error codes are reported. The Ford technician said that if it were their vehicle, they would not drive it with their children in the car. Ford has had the vehicle for almost a month now and have requested we pick it up because they cannot duplicate the malfunction and have suggested that I drive until it happens again, which is pointless as the malfunction does not trigger an error code. My wife refuses to drive the car, especially with our children in it. I have talked to Ford corporate, and they said they would escalate, but now they are not returning my emails or answering their phones. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. It may be helpful to know that when I first started bringing the vehicle in for this malfunction, it was still 100% under warranty. Thank you.

18 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/23/2023

When I’m driving all the sudden my braking system will say collision warning and slam the brakes on, the car pump the brakes and stop moving. It just does it at random times out of nowhere. Seems like most times I’m going at slow speed but I’m afraid I’m going to get rear ended. I’ve already taken it to Ford once and the reset code to system telling me Ford knows about this error but has not recalled it yet! this is very scary while driving and dangerous… plus I have children in the car!.

19 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/30/2022

Vehicle has never had a trailer attached ever and randomly while driving the vehicle said trailer connected and disabled all safety features while I was driving. Then while driving it would say trailer disconnected and shortly after the trailer connected message would pop buck up and start all over again. This all happened on 1 drive without shutting off the vehicle and happened roughly 10 times throughout my drive. Vehicle currently has 18755 miles on it. The trailer pin connector port has never been opened and I have owned this car since day one.

20 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/01/2022

9/15/2022 paid $875. 90 for brake booster, two weeks later, abs module going out, according to moyer Ford, as of 12/01/2022, I’ve called Ford complaint and they fail to add my VIN number, says only NHTSA can do that. As of today, 12/01/2022, moyer Ford is telling me abs modules are on back order with no eta. Ford knows this is major brake issue but not addressing it! now when abs part does come in, that’s another $800 out of my pocket, total of $1700 that Ford is ignoring and don’t even have the parts to fix! major concern!.

21 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/01/2022

The brakes on my otherwise perfect 2013 Ford Edge recently went to the floorboard while I was driving. The first time, I could have killed a pedestrian--which should shock everybody including Ford. The second time, I could've killed several people in the car in front of me and started a deadly chain reaction. Ford dealers have told me that there is a recall on the 2011 & 2012 Ford Edges for a replacement of the abs module--but not for my year! people are going to die if the greedy Ford is not forced to recall this year too. I've been told by numerous independent mechanics and have spent hundreds of dollars which leaves the brakes still not working properly. Ford dealers have quoted me $2000 + to replace the abs module (ecu & hcu). I am a senior citizen and cannot afford anything near that. Please . . . Please help me and demand that Ford recall this potentially lethal defect immediately.

22 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/15/2022

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the aeb engaged message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 43,713.

Brake booster has to be replaced which was being covered up until 2020 the mechanic told me so I liked to know why it's not covered now. I bought the vehicle in late December of ,2020 so I wouldn't have known and I got it from a dealership. The brakes don't work because of this known problem. So I have a $800 repair bill I'm hoping to get taken care like it should have when I bought it. Thanks for your time and help!.

24 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/06/2022

Vehicle transmission while in park failed to remain and moved backward on its own. My safety was at risk as a tractor trailer pulled into rest stop and had to brake b4 colliding with the said vehicle, also if anything was behind me it could have been at risk. Unknown unknown no there was no warning lamps or messages of this problem, however there were indications on the dashboard lights that stated blind spot system fault and cross traffic system fault at 45478 miles and prior.

25 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/27/2021

It is believed by driver that booster hose has failed. This became apparent when driving through new orleans on I-10 westbound. When I came off interstate exit to a street near where I was going, I had to almost stand on brake pedal to stop and keep from rearending car in front of me. I checked my brake fluid and it was full with no leaks. There are no leaks on inside under brake pedal. This vehicle is a 2013 Ford Edge sel awd assembled ay oakville, ontario, canada. There was no dash lights that came on to indicate that there is a malfunction. My vehicle may also have an electrical light problem to which I am not aware of.

26 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/07/2021

After purchasing my 2013 Ford Edge sel from a used car dealer, I noticed that the car would brake it self and come to a complete stop at 55 miles an hour. This scared me so I went to the Ford dealer riser Ford in hot springs arkansas about the problem. The dealer told me that no codes came up for the brake problem and nothing could be done until a code came up. I took the care to my mechanic and he told me that after driving the car himself he checked the temp on all four rotors and the front drivers side rotor was 30 degrees warmer than the rest. So either the sensor or module must be bad. This vehicle is dangerous to drive when your brakes lock up at high speed or at any speed. Ford should be sued for not correcting dangerous equipment.

27 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/15/2021

While driving abs light came on, then service advance trak. Did this intermittently. Got on ramp, turning wheel right anti lock brakes kicked in for no reason. It wasn't raining, not icy, etc. Parked. When I started my card drove 15 minutes, abs light came back on- then kicked in, for no reason.

28 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/09/2021

Recently, my 2020 Ford Edge, with 1,800 miles, displayed a warning that the pre-collision assist was not available. After completing the possible solutions indicated by the owner's manual without success, I took the Edge into a Ford dealership. The service tech's attempt to reprogram the unit revealed the front center camera was offline. Upon further inspection, it was discovered that the bracket that held the camera and radar components of the 2020 Edge were damaged requiring replacement. The Ford team theorized a stone hit a 2 mm plastic grill trim breaking it, then the same stone ricocheted and damaged the plastic bracket holding the camera and radar components of the pre-collision assist rendering it useless. No sign of any impact. To replace the bracket holding the pre-collision hardware costs $80. However, labor was $600. No choice but to have it repaired. The Ford motor company determined, using an unknown metric, that the repairs were not covered by the three-year bumper-to-bumper warranty. The final cost to me of the repairs: $671. During the repair, I learned that the Edge model years prior to 2020 had a metal bracket to protect the pre-collision camera and radar components. However, for the 2020 Edge model year and beyond, Ford replaced the metal bracket with a plastic bracket. In short, the bracket would not have been damaged if hit by a stone if the metal bracket had not been replaced by Ford with a plastic bracket. I believe that this plastic bracket is not only a threat to me and my passengers safety, the proper functioning of the pre-collision assist, but also an outrageous expense for Ford customers who may not afford to have it repaired. Thus, exposing customers to unsafe driving conditions. The metal bracket should replace the plastic bracket. Included is a picture of the front grill area cracked by a stone.
