36 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/15/2024

In June of 2022, the vehicle was exhibiting symptoms of hard to start especially after refueling, stalling, and poor drivability and the check engine light was illuminated. This vehicle was taken to local Ford dealer (dowling Ford- cheshire, CT) and diagnosed as a faulty fuel vapor separator (aka purge valve/solenoid) Ford part # f2gz-9d289-a. The dealer performed diagnosis/repair/replacement of this part at a total cost of approximately $600. The problem appeared to have been fixed, but now on 10/15/2024 the same issue re-appeared, and once again the dealer has determined same part has failed and now will cost $729 for diag/repair/replacement. This repair is just outside of the 2 year parts and labor warranty provided by Ford and/or dealer. According to my online research this is a well known and common problem with these vehicles as well as many other similar Ford vehicles which a recall has been issued for, and driver/occupant safety is gravely affected because this issue can cause stalling, poor throttle response, inability to start, and general poor driveability which seriously affects safety and cause a crash or cause driver to be unable to avoid a crash or other danger. Ford motor CO and Ford dealer refuses to accept responsibility for this issue and will not offer any assistance for repair. As of 10/29/24 the vehicle has not been repaired yet, and vehicle and parts are available for inspection.

37 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/14/2024

Had 2008 Ford Edge limited awd looked at while servicing for oil etc. Fuel smell noted at rear of vehicle. When looked at noticed wet fuel tank. Fuel tank is still on vehicle. (Ford wants $4400 to replace it) independent shop jp automotive in north haven CT and bob thomas Ford in hamden CT confirm tank is leaking. Bob thomas Ford says not part of Ford TSB #14s22 (NHTSA #10076517) or Ford TSB #14r02 (NHTSA #10076296) a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire. Causing danger to myself, my passengers, and others on the road. No warning lamps etc. Just a fuel smell at the rear of the vehicle that started.

38 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/07/2024

I took my Ford Edge to the service department of pine belt Ford. They let me know that there was a crack in my engine block, causing coolant to leak into the engine.

39 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/01/2024

Took my car to my mechanic said that coolant was draining into my 2. 0 ecoboost engine in cylinder 4 causing misfire, white smoke to come out of my pipes, sweet antifreeze smell in the cabin. Have to constantly dump coolant into the car so that it doesn't over heat. When I start the car in the morning it acts as if the car is going to die if I don't hit the gas. Contacted Ford, they said it was my problem. I bought the car a year ago. It started at about 72000 miles.

40 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/25/2024

55,000 miles and start the car it shakes and engine light comes on. My plugin said misfired cylinder so we take it to apple Ford in maplewood, mn and they say it has coolant in engine cylinders and need to replace the engine for about $7500 and it’s not drivable they said. Internet has many lists of this complaint for my engine but still no recall. I’ve had it parked since waiting.

41 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/13/2024

Engine light came on. Dealership says that I need a whole new transmission. Car is not slipping and seems to be driving fine. The car has less that 94,000 miles.

42 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 09/09/2024

The check engine light would intermittently light up and then go out for a few months prior to system failure. In the week prior to failure, we took the vehicle to autozone and used their engine code scanner to try to diagnose the problem. Based on the result of that, we first changed the spark plugs, which initially made the check engine light turn off for about a week, then it came back on. We then replaced the ignition coils, the check engine light never went out. A couple of days after that, while I was driving home from work one morning, the check engine light started to flash at me, which it had not done before, the car started shaking, and the rpm pin started dancing but would not exceed 2000rpm. We took it to the dealership where they diagnosed a coolant intrusion in cylinder 2 and told us this is a known problem with turbo boost engines from 2015-2018 and that there is currently a class action lawsuit underway to push Ford motor company to make it an official recall. They recommended replacing the engine or trading the vehicle in for a new car. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic, who confirmed the dealership's diagnosis and replaced the engine with a 2019 reman turbo boost engine, including brand new turbo hoses and gaskets. The total bill came to $8367. 64.

43 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/15/2024

Coolant leak into cylinder causing engine to misfire, caused by warped cylinder head. Chapman Ford and carshop have inspected and confirmed this issue and have indicated it is a common, recurring issue with Ford engines. Ford issued a service bulletin about this specific problem in 2019. In August 2019, the engine light went on, “misfire in cylinder #2”.

44 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/03/2024

The fuel tank has a crack in the top causing fuel leaking when the tank is full. This has been confirmed by an independent service center. Cost to replace the tank is approximately 3000$.

45 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

Two separate instances where this vehicle (2019 Ford Edge titanium) completely shut down. The first, unfortunately, was in traffic while navigating a rotary. The second less intense event was in while parking. Eventually, the vehicle did restart and we were able to get it home. This looks to be an extension of a problem Ford thought was fixed -- related to the cannister purge valve (front) remaining stuck open. I say this because a cheap scanner tool revealed code p0496, and we experienced one of the primary symptoms (rough start after filling gas tank).

46 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/31/2024

[xxx] [xxx] as you can see in the links above this has been a issue with the purge valve for the Edge . This problem is so ignorable to the driver because they will junk the car and resale it. I cant because I signed papers to buy this Edge I could have did another lease. I decided to buy my this Edge 2021out of 4 Edges ive leased and this one I should have not bought my(2021). Buying this one with low miles 22,335, and at the most ten days later this particular part (purge valve) not even an opportunity to shop around for a extended warranty went bad. Its not only a problem for Ford but then the Lincoln nautilus that vehicle shows it holds its value $30,000 or more I also consider this vehicle as well during my purchasing process. I convinced my sister to lease her second corsair 2024. And family of dedicated Ford owners Ford 150's its hard for me to not tell them this is and issue. My mother scheduled her appointment weeks down late August 2024 for recall her 2021 and the purge valve. The purge valve should have extended the recall to 2021's Edge and others. Im out diagnostic fees, labor, to fix it almost $900. . . . That is ridiculous information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

47 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/21/2024

The vehicle would not accelerate and caused my to bump into a wall. The vehicle is spluttering and the interior filled with chemical smoke caused by a coolant leak and it burning by the motor. The 1. 5l vehicles are under an extended warrenty because of the egr cooler malfunctioning. There was zero coolant in the car. The car illuminated malfunction indicator said powertrain malfunction. My car has 62000 miles on it and is no longer covered by warrenty.

48 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/20/2024

No warning lights before or after the problem occurred. Driving about 25mph with traffic heard loud noise like something broke then sounded like plastic was dragging, the engine was a lot louder. I got it off traffic and pulled over. Nothing under the car. No warning or engine lights came on. Dealer told me it was a fly wheel on 6/26 and covered under warranty. Said it would take 2 weeks to repair (July 5). I kept calling for status on my car with no call back from the service manager. I finally had to complain (although I was afraid to since they had my car), and they called on 7/12 said it's not the fly wheel like they thought, they said I need a whole new transmission. They don't know what cause it but maybe something broke inside the transmission caused damage to it. $7600 cost to replace it. Not covered under warranty. We contacted another mechanic who says it's probably the torque something (arm?) that broke. I paid what to me is a lot of money for the car. It also needed a completely new engine at 44k miles which was covered under warranty. For the amount of money I paid for the car it's crazy I have to shell out $7600 more.

49 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/04/2024

2017 Ford Edge was rattling with starting it in the morning. We received a backdated letter about a flexplate recall. We took car in to check it out. Service guy said to go home, “you would know if it was the flexplate”. Then car was rattling a little more and check engine light came on, so I brought the car and the letter back in and same service guy said he would check it out. Charged me $764 to change out 4 spark plugs and an ignition coil. Said car was fine to drive and that they checked all cylinders etc. But they were going to ask for Ford approval to replace flexplate…. . They called that it was approved and they kept car for many days and said it was fixed. Last week (two months and only 500 miles later), check engine light came on again. We took it back to auto nation. They kept car to evaluate the problem. Called us a few days later saying we would need a new engine for $8,500. Service guy said this happens a lot. Most people had traded in for new cars. One guy with extended warranty got it fixed. We asked if cylinders, plugs, etc were fully checked 2 months ago, why would you say cylinders are corroded now? did fixing the flexplate cause the problem? we looked online and saw talk of class action lawsuits, cylinder issues, ecoboost engine issues, and possible car fire issues. This caught our attention as a huge safety concern. We are not sure how to proceed. (I have all paperwork from autonation and recall letter. ).

50 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/27/2024

My brakes are hard to press sometimes hard to stop. Jerky and then hard then soft. I read brake booster master cylinder or hcu all Ford's mistakes. Still no recall. I'm outside of the extended warranty because I just bought this 3 months ago and it's over 10 years old only 115000 miles on it. If I die I'm having my family sue Ford. Codes p2 195 and p2 197 are now showing after a week and a half of this problem. Taking it to Ford Tuesday. Calling customer service Monday. Shame on Ford.

51 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/20/2024

2. 0 eco boost motor. Intrusion of coolant into the 1st and 2nd cylinder. Superior warranty and Ford company refuse to take any responsibility of this issue. It is a known issue and it has cost me $6624 and it is hard enough to have to buy 2nd hand car but 3 days after this issue arises. As is vehicle. Ford should be liable. 111k miles at time of repair. Started as fuel issues per starks where bought car to spark plugs and coils to motor and fly wheel.

52 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/08/2024

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -the engine had to be replaced due to coolant and oil leaking through the 4th cylinder into the engine itself, effectively killing it. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -the car unexpectedly shook very violently, and would not properly accelerate due to the problem. Smoke clouded the street as I drove to the repair shop - and other drivers were worried for mine and others safety. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -the problem was confirmed by an independent mechanic as well as a Ford dealer, who told me this is a common occurrence with this specific engine, though there is no recall. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -the Ford dealer inspected the engine and came to the same conclusion as the independent mechanic - the engine had suffered an intrusion of oil and coolant through the 4th cylinder which effectively killed the engine. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -the check engine light had been on for around a year prior. Also, the acceleration had been getting weaker and weaker.

53 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/27/2024

At around 47,000 miles (April 27, 2024) my car would not move when I put it in reverse to leave my house that day, the engine would just rev and it would not get into the reverse gear. Then warning light came on for the power train so I called the dealership and had it towed to their service department. They said they had to completely rebuild my transmission and it took them almost a month to complete the repairs. (may 6th, while the car was at the dealership , I received several engine warnings from my Ford app. I got my car back from the dealership about 2 weeks later) but immediately after getting my car back from the dealership there were still issues; it’s slips gears , especially from drive to first gear and first gear to second gear and the engine will rev for a while and then the entire vehicle jerks when it finally catches the next gear, also it doesn’t have enough power for steep inclines , it will just roll backwards while the engine is raving trying to climb the hill. This happened intermittently after the transmission rebuild but has since progressed to be an everyday issue. And I’ve sent it back to the dealership several times over the last year for them to fix it but it never gets fixed. They keep telling me they did a software update and that should fix the issue, but it doesn’t. It’s at the dealership again right now because it has gotten so bad that I can’t even drive the car. You start the car, put it in drive and it just revs and won’t even catch first gear. It now has around 60,000 miles. I’m the only owner of the vehicle and I take excellent care of my vehicles. I just want my vehicle to be drivable and a vehicle that is worth the price that I paid for it. I paid for a brand new vehicle, but what I got is a piece of crap. And not drivable.

54 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/15/2024

The engine coolant leaks into the pistons due to cracked cylinder wall car is goes through coolant very quickly which may cause the engine to overheat or catch fire. There is no noticeable leak from outside the vehicle and is not obvious the coolant gets low/empty very quickly vehicle has been inspected by Ford dealership and a third part mechanic, both confirmed the coolant leak and cracked cylinder wall a check engine light came on, but it was for misfires in the engine, not identifying the coolant leak. (coolant in the cylinder caused car to misfire on start up).

55 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/15/2024

Detailed account: after my morning commute, the car started sounding like it was idleing hard with a strange smell. It didn't smell like buring oil or plastic/rubber. Midday, I went to a store 1/2 mile from my work. There was little noticable sound upon starting. I pulled into the parking lot, when I shifted into reverse to park, the car shut off. There were no warning lights on the dash. I shifted to park, then turned the car back on and parked. There was smoke coming from one of the tail pipes that lasted several minutes after shut-off. After 30 min, I turned on the car and shifted into reverse to leave the parking spot. The car shut off and the brakes were not responsive as rolled slightly down an incline. Again no warning lights, so I returned to my workplace and finished my day. We contacted a mechanic and scheduled an appointment as soon as they could get us in. Following the workday, I began the drive to my child's school (approx 3 miles city). Within 1 mile, the check engine light came on and the car shut off when I came to a complete stop at a light. I shifted to park then turned it back on when the light turned green. It shut off again when someone entered my lane and I had to come to a complete stop. Once again turned back on, and limped it to my son's school because I had to get to my child before the end of pickup time (my husband would not have made it in time if I had pulled over where I was). I tried to avoid making a complete stop but had to proceed through two 4 way stops, when the vehicle shut off again. I made it to the school where I could safely leave it and wait for it to be towed. Malfunction: engine shut-off, lack of powered brack due to car shutting off safety risk: extended stopping time in the middle of the road due to time needed to turn car back on problem has been confirmed by mechanic shop, internet research, and a friend in Ford service department as known issue (design flaw) of corrosion due to coolant intrusion. No recall.

56 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/22/2024

Egr cooler faulty; the year this vehicle was manufactured in 2019 has an active recall with this same issue; however because my vehicle in the same year; 2019, was manufactured in a different time bracket Ford will not honor said repair. Leaving me with an extended warranty whom will not cover said repair also. $1800(+) out of pocket expense. Any insight on how one is too challenge this?.

58 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/15/2024

I was issued a customer satisfaction program #13n02 while replacing brake booster helped, bypassing the fact the master cylinder fluid leaked into brake booster and was not part of repair is just ridiculous. Until master cylinder is repaired, problem will not be resolved! please remedy by including master cylinder with brake booster 13n02. My brake pedal still goes to floor, I am requesting your immediate response.

59 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/15/2024

I've had bad gas mileage since I got vehicle 10 months ago. I had 19 miles left when I parked my Edge after having brake booster replaced on 2/15/24 13n02, to wake up with 0 miles left??? I've been getting 15 mpg? that's easy country driving, now my gas is disappearing. I believe it's same problem as fuel leak recall 14v-002/13513. The 2013 Fordm Edge should be a buy back do to so many manufacturers errors.

60 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/09/2024

Bad purge valve, car wouldn't start. Code p1450.

61 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/16/2024

Have check engine light on . Saying bad purge solenoid. Replaced it. Light still came on. When I get fuel the SUV bucks and stalls for a bit. Checked with a buddy at Ford motor company. Stated they know of the problem with it. But don't have a solution. Being an a. S. E. Tech myself. And reading up on this. I see Ford did recall the focus for this same issue. Why have they not recalled others vehicles like mine. This could be a very bad safety hazard. When a person is filling there car the extra fuel is now going into the fuel evap system, backwards. So it's filling up as system that is meant only for fumes. If something in this system shorts out or have a internal engine back fire from this extra fuel. It could potentially cause a explosion in the fuel system and with a full tank of fuel that would not have a happy ending. The NHTSA must get on Ford to fix this problem ASAP.

62 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/11/2024

Fuel filler neck housing leaking causing an evap control system issue.

63 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

My 2018 Ford Edge is equiped with ecoboost engine and as a result all these problems are occurring: Ford failed to disclose that these vehicles have a defect that causes coolant to leak into the engine’s cylinders, which can cause corrosion, oil dilution and contamination, and engine failure; and failed to disclose these defects create a safety risk, because the lack of coolant created by the leaks causes overheating and can result in the cylinder head cracking, total engine failure, and/or engine fires. Ford dealers have stated that I need a new engine.

64 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/22/2023

The options above were not exact for my vehicle issue. But here is the letter I am mailing to Ford. Iris perez. 18828 e apricot lane, queen creek, az 85142may 20, 2024 2019 Ford Edge VIN 2fmpk3k90kbb55456 with 60k miles in 12/2023 Ford motor company customer relationship centerto p. O. Box 6248 dearborn, mi 48126 we've purchased several used Fords growing up and loved them and found them to be reliable like your commercials and mission statements claims: Ford motor company's mission statement is "to help build a better world where people can move freely and pursue their dreams". The company's core values are "put people first", "do the right thing", "create tomorrow", "play to win", "be curious", "built Ford tough", and "one Ford". So we decided to purchase our very first brand new Ford Edge vehicle on 2/12/20 at Ford auto nation, not knowing we were sold a lemon. We do all necessary maintenance to all vehicles to avoid costly expenses. We started noticing some shuddering and took the vehicle to Ford but they wanted $200 for diagnosis and would not apply to repairs. Upon taking the vehicle to 2 local auto repair shops on 12/2023 to 01/2024 they used the computerized diagnostic tool/on-board diagnostics (obd) system and could not collect any data from sensors and stating zero trouble codes (dtcs) were generated. 1 mechanic recommended we change spark plugs and do other maintenance for $350 that would be used for later repairs unfortunately issue remains. They wanted to hold on to the car for another week to do further inspections. Instead, I chose to take to Ford. April 29th Ford charges $200 for diagnose (receipt attached) and does not apply to the repairs. After the 1st week without any status update via several texts and calls, and not getting any updates. I was finally advised that the transmission was shot and expected to pay $7k. My heart fell. How can a 5 year old vehicle with 60k miles h.

67 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 11/20/2023

The component that failed was the long block and is currently available for inspection. The date when the issue 1st appeared was Nov 20 2023. The issue has since been isolated as a coolant leak in my cylinders and Ford is very aware of the issue and has a TSB 22-2229 discussing some of the symptoms. The coolant intrusion compromised the motors ability to react to demand for power. The vehicle shakes while idling and has faltered when trying to gain entry onto on-ramps for I-20. The failure of the vehicle to meet the power requirements asked of it to merge and the sudden loss of power nearly left my vehicle rear ended with both my toddler and my teenager present. The check engine light illuminated showing a code of p0301 for a cylinder 1 miss-fire. All 4 spark plugs were replaced in an attempt to fix the issue. The check engine light came on again within 48 hours after the repair was made. During the next inspection the coolant level was noted as low. Coolant was added at that time and cylinder 1 coil pack was replaced to fix the issue. The check engine light came on again and coolant was once again low within 48 hours of the 2nd repair. Ford’s service bulletin TSB 22-2229 addressing the known coolant intrusion issue for the 2015-mid 2019 Ford Edge was presented as the needed repair. This engine failure poses a risk for the car owner, occupants, and surrounding bystanders. It has a fire risk, power failure risk, and quite possible a loss of life risk. Repairs will be made by the local Ford dealership within the week.

68 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 10/30/2023

My 2007 Ford Edge lost the use of my accelerometer pedal without any warning, while driving. The pedal collapsed to the floor. The engine continued to run. A wrench image appeared on the dashboard. After towing to service station the gas pedal worked again. No codes could be determined during two diagnostic procedures. After the first mechanics could not determine or diagnose a problem, nor replicate the problem, I had it towed to my local Ford dealership. Their diagnosis claimed no indication of an issue on their diagnostic computer either. I’m afraid to drive my car. Lisa walker, sacramento, California 916-206-2674 lwalker206@yahoo. Com.
