Wheel Problems of Ford Edge - part 2

Tires were getting rotated when they told me the lug nuts were swollen and needed to be replaced. Please make this right. I already had to pay extra for the tires when getting new ones and now $146 to get lug nuts replaced. The car is 6 years old. Not to mention the safety issue of this-tire can fall off and possibly unable to change tire if there is a flat.

When at the dealer for an oil change and tire rotation I was informed the dealer could not rotate tires because the lugnuts were bad and needed replacing. I stated our 2011 Ford Edge had the same issue. The manager said that Ford has an issue with the lugnuts for several years. It cost me $172. 80 for the new lugnuts and I had to make another appointment because they did' nt have any in stock.

Lug nuts were swollen and they informed me I would not be able to change a tire with a manual tire iron and it was unsafe as two were completely stripped. Only 70k on the vehicle. Cost over $100 to repair. Seems like a common complaint so thought it prudent to report same.

Took my car in for oil change and tire rotation. I was called that all 20 of my lug nuts have to be replaced due to swelling. For $180, which I’ve never in my life had to replace the lug nuts on any other vehicle I’ve owned. Not just one but all 20 need to be replaced.

We were informed that the lug nuts on our wheels were swollen and distorted. They suggested getting them replaced.

I had my brakes repaired and since having my brakes repaired, I continued to have issues with the suspension, vehicle handling and imbalance (vehicle not stopping properly). I was dropping my friend girl's grandsons off at school and my brakes went out. . . Almost causing me to have a head on collision with the vehicle in front of me. I was overwhelmed and hysterical! I had taken my vehicle back to the repair shop that replaced my brakes and I tried to explain what happened. I was bewildered because my vehicle didn't have any warning messages of any sort. I remember riding over some bumpy streets and when the traffic slowed down, I pressed my brakes and they were gone. I had to press the brake pedal all the way down to the floor and I wasn't getting any pressure through the brake line at all, which caused me to almost run into the vehicle in front of me. When I pressed the brake to the floor, my vehicle slid rapidly and made a strange noise before I was able to come to a complete stop. We were terrified because I had ran into the curb trying to stop my vehicle! the repair shop mechanic stated that it could be the caliber connected to the brake line, because my vehicle did not have sweaking noises that you usually hear when your brakes need to be replaced. My vehicle is still in need of repairs, I'm afraid while driving it still. I'm bewildered because I honestly don't know what caused my brakes to just go out like that!.

Swollen lug nuts only 60 k on vehicle.

9/28/2022 after tire rotation, the mechanic notes "technician noted lug nuts are swelling. Should replace at next tire rotation. $10. 00 per nut plus labor" all four tires.

Swollen lug nuts - on 26 September 2022, my right rear tire picked up a nail causing a flat tire. After removing the spare, lug wrench and jack, I found the Ford factory lug wrench would not fit on the lug nuts. I required road side assistance for which I was billed $95 for the call (subsequently reimbursed by my insurance company). When the road side assistance serviceman arrived, he said it was a common Ford problem. He had larger sockets and easily installed the spare. I purchased replacement 20 lug nuts for $42. 39. Reimbursement would be appropriate. Fortunately, the event occurred mid day in temperate weather in a small town where I could easily pull out of traffic. If it would have occurred during the dark during inclement weather, the outcome may have been disastrous. A recall for replacement of these lug nuts is appropriate.

The lug nuts are swollen up and the lug wrench that came with the vehicle. Had the tires rotated at a firestone service center and the service tech said he couldn't get the 22mm socket to fit. I search this problem and found there is a problem with the two piece lug nuts swelling up.

My lugs nuts have expanded on my vehicle and I cannot get my wheels off. What happens if while unable to change a flat tire on the highway due to the lug nuts stuck on the the car I get hit and killed? Ford needs to accept the responsibility on this safety defect and replace the lug nuts at no charge. This has also created an issue with me being able to have my brakes checked during my oil changes.

Swollen lug nuts. Unable to use supplied lug wrench on lug nuts after having a flat tire on roadway. Unable to safely remove flat while on side of road. Dealer diagnosed problem as swollen lug nuts on wheel. No warning.

Damaged lug nuts. Dealer told me they had to be replaced. Front are like new. Back wheel lug nuts have swelled and are starting to rust. Dealer cannot rotate my tires. My last Edge did not have this problem and it was older.

Went to stevens 112 Ford for oil change and “the works”. Service man came out to tell me the lug nuts were swollen and they couldn’t rotate tires without destroying the lug nuts. It was advised to me, it would cost me $519. 00 plus tax to replace the lug nuts. I advised the service man not to perform the task, as I was not getting billed that exorbitant charge for lug nuts that are not very old. There is obviously something terribly wrong with the way these lug nuts are designed and manufactured. I have never experienced this type of issue in the past on any of my Ford vehicles. Ford needs to seriously consider this issue and recall the product.

Car shimmy's when hitting a bump or rough pavement. If this happens when road surface is wet or icy I feel car will slide enough to cause accident.

After experiencing a flat tire on an interstate, we discovereed the Ford-supplied lug wrench could not fit over the lug nuts without the person helping laying across a lane on the interestate and kicking the lug wrench over the lug nut. And, then, disengaging the lug wrench took extreme effort. The person helping me could have been killed by traffic ignoring the position of my car. There is ample reference to the lug nut problem on google'd web pages. The lug nuts on our Edge have not been inspected, yet. No warning lamps apply to this problem.

When getting tires rotated found out that the lug nuts on my wheels had expanded and had to get them removed by force. Found out this has been occurring to other Ford vehicles for years. Now I have replacement lug nuts that extend too far out and if hitting a curb or something would definitely ruin the wheel. Should not be having this type of issue at my expense for faulty lug nuts.

Lug nuts on a 2019 Ford Edge 27,000 miles on it. Mechanic said they were flatten and need replaced this vehicle has been to Ford from day 1 for maintenance every oil change and rotate tires. Ford is putting out subpar equipment and we are supposed to say okay? it just cost me $177. 80 to replace all lug nuts.

Lug nuts on vehicle were swollen and wound not come off according to the dealer. This is a known defect by the dealer and Ford motor company. All lug nuts have to be forcefully removed and replaced at owners expense. There should have been a recall on this known issue already.

Went to costco to have my tires rotated. They advised that my lug nuts were swollen and could not be removed with the tools they had. They suggested buying after market lug nuts as this was a known issue with Ford lug nuts.

About 3 months when I got the vehicle I had to take it to el cajon Ford because the brakes suddenly stopped working properly and I had to nearly push the pedal to the floor to stop. It suddenly lost the pressure needed to properly stop. The vehicle was still under warranty at that time. That was about over 4 years ago. Now I find that the same problem has arose again. I took it took it to a auto repair shop to find the part I need is back ordered. There is a recall on all Ford Edge vehicles for this brake problem however after several calls and conversations with Ford I find for some reasons my Ford Edge is not included for reasons I can’t understand and the parts available are reserved for other recall vehicles when my car has the same issues. In addition, a less than a week after I received the vehicle my son along with his baby daughter were on the freeway when suddenly the a tire just blew out causing them to skid across the highway, luckily no one was hurt, but 2 weeks later another tire just blew out on me as soon as I entered the highway on my way home from work. I replaced all 4 tires however about once a month the tire pressure runs low although I had new tires.

I purchased this vehicle used from a dealership and I have had it for six months and now I was going to replace the break shoes front and back. Now the problem came when I tried to remove the lug nuts and I could not! Ford decided to put metal caps over all lug nuts and failed to tell the customers that they can not get them off with the standard equipment given by factory. There is no lug wrench or socket that will fit the lug nuts with the caps on them. Here is the “rub” I called the dealership and the service technician said “ to get a oversized socket and bang it on and then remove each lug nut , then replace all of them with new ones without the caps on them. ” wow. Ford has to know that this is a issue everyone that owns one has the same issue. Now imagine getting a flat on the interstate with the family at 1:30am. Now you would have to have the vehicle towed and find a ride at 1:30am. Now that would be a 15 minute job if Ford would do a recall and replace all of these ignorant lug nuts. Wow what a waste of time and money. I don’t know maybe Ford did not want the customers to remove the wheels never. Please help.

My 2013 Ford Edge has the sunroof rails broken . I think because they are made out of plastic. So the only thing holding the front of the glass is some wires to prevent it from the glass from catching air and catching air borne which will shatter the glass. Im really scare to take the freeway.

Lug nut swelling dealer said not under warranty costco said common complaint please consider recall. I have to spend a couple hundred bucks to get fixed. Thanks.

Hello, 1. "other" - I've had to replace the cv joint on the same side twice in the last two years. -yes you can inspect. -safety was not at risk, I don't think. -I had them fixed at pauli Ford in st. Johns, mi. -no warning lights. 2. "wheel" - the lugnuts are swollen on all 4 wheels. -yes you can inspect. -safety and safety of others were at risk. -I'm getting them fixed at costco with a full set of new tires. -no warning lights.

Swollen lug nuts. . Grand ledge Ford, would not rotate and balance tires due to swollen lug nuts. Was informed the lug nuts should be replaced. Also told it is a known problem with Ford using the two piece lug nuts.

According to bob tomes Ford in mckinney, texas, they are unable to rotate the tires on my vehicle because the lug nuts are swollen and would have to be cut off and replaced to fix. This leaves me with an unsafe vehicle and an inability to change the tire should I have a flat.

Wheel cracked, found during replacement of failed tire. Could have led to an accident if unfound. Problem found by firestone service center no. No.

Lugnuts have inflated and stripped on the wheel.

The factory installed lugs nuts have become swollen and now the lug nut wrench which is provided by Ford does not fit the lug nuts! if I tried to change a flat tire I would be unable to do this since the lug nut wrench does not fit the lug nuts!!!!.

I went to have a slow leak fixed and the shop could not get the lug nuts to come off as the caps on the lug nuts had expanded and warped. I had to replace all 4 wheels lug nut. Cost to me $75. 87.
