The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.

2 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2006

I see more and more people are having problems of replacing the egr valve on their 2001 Ford Escape. I replaced mine twice and the dpfe sensor twice and just had the computer replaced at just under 42000 miles. There is too many problems with this model year and the warranty is up. . They (Ford) make so these cheap parts last until warranty expires, so the consumer has to pay I bought Fords all my life but I'm having second thought after this buy.

Ford Escape 2001, egr sensor failure. The consumer wanted to know if the service bulletin applied to him, because he purchased the vehicle in mexico, but t was manufactured in kansas city mo.

4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2002

While driving at approximately 35 mph on a level roadway, the engine unexpectedly stopped. Traffic was relatively heavy and stopping the vehicle at the traffic light without hitting the stopped vehicle in front of me was difficult. The vehicle had to be placed in park before the engine would restart (as expected) -- which it did without any problem. No check engine light was present. Time of day was at approximately 5 pm cdt. Outside temperature was about 85 degrees. I had just exited off the highway and had been driving for about 8 miles without stopping before the failure. The air conditioning and radio were on during the failure.

Failure Date: 01/22/2002

There were numerous problems. The egr sensor (dpfe) was replaced along with the sop driver side outer belt molding, fuel pump, sway bar links and iac. There was a loud noise coming from the driver's side window, water leaked around the tailgate window, the vehicle was hard to start, the iac was sticking, the driver's side window squeaked and rattled, the vehicle hesitated upon starting, there was play in the front sway bar links, the coolant light stayed on, there was a crack around the oil pan and the oil drain plug was problematic, and the accelerator pedal was sticking.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2001

Engine would stall while driving at 30mph. Would have no warning of any problems. Had lost power brakes and steering. Had to use emergency brakes to stop vehicle. Had happened once before. Will be taking vehicle to dealership. *akconsumer stated the delaer replaced the egr valve, however that did not solve the problem.

7 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2001

Engine check light indicated that that egr sensor needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced this sensor and the egr pressure valve. The dealer claimed that Ford knew that this was a problem after production, so they produced a new sensor. At the minimum, a TSB should have been issued.
