Steering Noise problems of the 2008 Ford Escape

There were no warning indicators illuminated. The dealer was not called. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure was not diagnosed. Ford had a 2015 recall for power steering problems, during which this vehicle was checked. Two months ago my mechanic checked my steering because of a noise and advised me not to drive it on the highway. As I was driving into my driveway the power steering went out. Ford should be made to extend their recalls and give trade in credit to get these cars off the road. They are a danger to all. I had all the fuses checked and unhooked the battery. Everything points to the electric assisted power steering or such which is a $1200 repair that is not guaranteed to last long.

Was driving and taking a turn when the power steering went out. Stopped the car and then shut it off. When I restarted the car the power steering was back on. However, there was considerable shaking in the steering wheel with a rattling noise coming from the steering column. This was only the latest incident. Until this point I have been pretty pleased with my vehicle, but the fact that Ford has not had a recall after so many incidents, makes me not want to buy a Ford ever again. My mechanic has suggested I replace the electronic steering column. The cost will be around $1300. 00 with parts and labor.

At idle speeds vehicle wheel shakes on its own when driving, power steering sensors force wheel to fluctuate, and motor inside steering column makes noise. Vehicle taken to dealer, was told standard fix is for steering column to be replaced, but cannot yet verify that is needed yet. Was told the condition will get worse, and for now to wait on repair, which would cost $1,600 to replace steering column.

I bought my 2008 Ford Escape on January 15 2013 at 67,000 miles it has 78,000 miles and is doing what so many other complaints said are doing. When I go to turn left especially makes a loud bang click noise in the steering wheel/column. I do have a warranty but others don't. There is over 500 complaints on this issue on safe car. Gov. Please dont let a death be a deciding factor for a recall to be issued and to save a couple bucks. Evidently there is a problem. Like I said had my car for one year.
