I started my vehicle and I got a warning beep saw the display saying power steering assist fault. My steering wheel was vibrating and a loud motor type noise was sounding. I would drive and I could feel the steering wheel shimmy while driving. The next day I started my car and display showed right away the power steering assist default. And I had no power steering from then on. Other 2008s had recalls for power steering but my VIN was not on the list for recalls.
The steering wheel started vibrating and eventually the steering started shaking and it lost all power to steer. I have been told this has been a common issue with this model and year Escape. It appears to be the problem with the rack and pinion system.
When stationary (parked or with brake on) steering wheel shakes vigorously. . . Leading to total loss of power steering after 1. 5 weeks car is no longer drive-able.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. While driving at various speed the steering wheel was shaking uncontrollably and became inoperable. The tpms warning light was illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted who referred contact to NHTSA the failure mileage was 137,000. The contact stated the failure was similar to nhsta campaign number 14v284000 steering. Ap.
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle's steering wheel would vibrate intermittently as the oil warning light would illuminate. The shaking would eventually cease after some time and the power steering would continue to operate as normal, the oil light would also disappear. The contact took the vehicle to bill talley automotive 5250 s laburnum Ave, richmond, va 23231 where the vehicle was diagnosed with a steering column failure. Upon investigation, the contact associated NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering) with her failure. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 174,300. Jo.
Steering wheel vibrates, chatters, and moves on its own accord while vehicle is stationary with the steering wheel left in a neutral position (no force applied left or right). The chattering noise can be heard while the vehicle is in motion with neutral steering wheel forces. This symptom creates extreme concern that the electric steering assist may fail or malfunction while the vehicle is in motion. This issue is not covered under recall according to Ford.
Last week the steering wheel would shake when at a stop. Yesterday we got an error code saying "power steering assist fault". Then the power steering went out when driving on the highway. We learned that there was a recall for this exact failure for our year/make/model of car for the Ford plant where ours was built (kansas city) but our VIN number is not part of the recall. I contacted the dealership and they said there is nothing they can do for us but to charge us full price for the repair.
The steering in my car was affected. First signs of issue were steering wheel shaking while stopped, parked and driving down the road. Then suddenly while driving the power steering went and thankfully I was only going about 20mph. I was not turning and was able to force the wheels to turn off into the side of the road. I was on a city street in a residential area.
Power steering electric. Steering wheel shakes and jerks while parked or driving. Steering column is very noisy. Electrifing.
The error message power steering assist fault appeared on the dash board. The steering wheel shakes back and forth even when in park. The steering has become very loose and takes a lot more to steer the vehicle. Moving the steering wheel to the left and right now does not significantly move the vehicle.
The initial problem I encountered is that the steering wheel would shake while the vehicle was in gear though stopped. I took it to a shop and was informed of a technical service bulletin regarding a torque angle steering sensor, which was believed to be the source of the problem. After that repair, the steering wheel no longer shakes upon braking. However, the vehicle pulls hard to the left. The steering wheel has pressure to the right, but no resistance to the left, and is therefore always steering to the left. I did alert the shop to the problem and they made certain it was not an issue with the alignment. They have informed me that the cause of the problem is a faulty steering column assembly which the new torque angle steering sensor is not able to calibrate against. The vehicle is now largely not safe to drive until the second round of repairs are done. The shop where I had the repairs done, believe Ford is aware of the problem with the steering assembly - the reason they believe Ford is aware of the issue is because they called a local Ford dealership and found that the dealership keeps this entire assembly in stock. The choice to keep this assembly in stock, I was told, is indicative of routine need to replace this part.
Vehicle steering wheel started shaking back and forth while stopped. Then started while driving at city and highway speeds. Several times the power steering has failed in the middle of a turn. When researching the issue I found that there was a recall but not for my VIN. When I called Ford they said there was a recallbut it has already been performed and is no longer covered even though the part that was supposed to be fixed was not replaced. Due to the issues the vehicle cannot be safely driven on the road. It seems that Ford is attempting to sidestep a safety recall by telling customers that they fixed a faulty torque sensor by simply updating the software which costs them nothing. Then when the part fails they tell customers the recall no longer applies because they fixed the problem. Im attempting to get paperwork from Ford because I don't even remember it going in for a recall in the first place. How does Ford not have an obligation to replace parts that they know are faulty when there is a safety recall? the whole point is to remove the parts from the vehicle before they fail after it is determined that they will fail. The recall is 14s05.
Torque sensor recall -- initial symptoms happened while on highway, trouble steering above 45mph, steering wheel vibrating 5-10degree angle on its own. Once off the highway turning requiring wide angle to go left or right. After parked, unable to get out of nosed-in park space. Dashboard wrench light lite -- error code b2278 diagnosis by auto center. Difficult steering on street, took to Ford dealership told VIN not covered by recall even though steering shaft torque sensor malfunctioned. Paid for torque sensor replacement for a "free of charge recall remedy".
Steering wheel shakes at a complete stop, when you start to move the shake become worse and you need to hold the wheel with 2 hands otherwise the wheel turns at anytime.
I had my Escape serviced for the 14s05 recall in oct 2014 where they did a software update for the epas in the steering column. Now my car's steering wheel shakes with a clunking noise when idling. . . And sometime while moving. I see reports/reviews that the power-steering will likely go out soon and put me at risk of a crash. All reviews mention estimates from Ford of $1400-$2000 to fix. They are claiming no responsibility to fix this, and yet I'm stuck with a serious threat to myself and others should something happen. Seriously, who has $2000 lying around to fix something that Ford should be responsible for, since the electric power assembly had a defect in it's design?! I also hear that replacements have the same defect and will likely fail again. I haven't been in an accident yet, but I'm having anxiety now every time I have to go somewhere.
Already had this recall fixed-# 14s05. Recall originally "fixed" in December of 2014. Steering wheel was shaking while driving and stationary, rattling noise. A new torque sensor was installed and that would take care of the problem. Today, having the same issues- steering wheel turning on its own, rattling. Doesn't matter if I'm driving at a stop light, turning, all the time. Have been told since it was already fixed(no it wasn't), they now have to replace the steering column which will cost about 1500 and it is not covered under the original recall. But they also say, that I should hold on to my receipt in case the recall gets extended, and can maybe get reimbursed. What's funny, is that the new steering column is redesigned(interesting) and other parts need to be changed along with it. Seems like Ford knew there was a problem the whole time and just took the cheap way out, and knew the original recalled parts would fail again and they wouldn't have to pay since it was already "fixed". Not right.
Steering wheel started shaking back & forth when I stopped at stop sign. I read that was the signs of steering not working. I drove slowly home 2 miles & parked. . There has been recall but not for mine, but same problem. .
When car is started and still in park the steering wheel shakes from left to right (like its having tremors). If wheel is being held it does not shake. This also occurs when at a complete stop.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. While driving 35 mph, the steering wheel vibrated abnormally and the power steering failed. The failure occurred without warning. The contact stated that the steering was difficult to operate. In 2014, the vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering); however, the failure listed in the recall summary occurred. The vehicle was taken to green Ford (2211 w pioneer pkwy, peoria, IL 61615, (309) 693-2525) where it was diagnosed that the torque sensor in the steering failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000.
I took my car in for a recall on the power steering. Afterwards when I would idle, the steering wheel became shaky making a loud noise. Now it shakes even when I'm driving and will get jerky or stop working completely. This happens on the highway, when I'm stopped at a stop light or when I'm pulling out of a driveway! from what I have researched this happens to thousands of other Ford owners. The power steering simply gives out and they want you to pay $1,500 to have the whole column replaced!.
Recall steering -after having a "software" updates on a 2008 Ford Escape XLT in 2014 for Ford recall #14s05, now in 2017 my steering wheel is shaking while at a stop both in and out of gear. Researching the problem could be a torque steering sensor or a full blown steering column replacement. Both may lead to inoperable power steering or steering as well. Local Ford dealer quoted $800 for torque sensor replacement or $1800 for full steering column.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering) in 2016. The vehicle was taken to bell Ford (2401 west bell rd, phoenix, az 85013) where it was diagnosed that a software update was required. Later, while operating the vehicle, the steering wheel vibrated while the engine idled. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering rack replacement and steering calibration needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was offered. The contact indicated that the failure progressed and the power steering assist was inoperable. The failure mileage was 95,000.
The steering wheel started shaking when ever I was stopped at a red light then shortly after that the steering became very difficult and I almost hit a pedestrian.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The dealer (l & l Ford, 314 harrisburg st, east berlin, PA 17316, (717) 259-6334) was notified that the eps warning indicator was flashing. The steering wheel had been vibrating and veering to the left, causing the contact to apply force to correct the direction of the steering wheel each time the failure happened. The dealer failed to provide a remedy and cleared the code as if they had provided a solution. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and that the dealer cleared the code without remedying the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
I recently experienced power steering issues with my 2008 Ford Escape. I take very good care of my vehicle. I have never been in any accidents in this vehicle or had any mechanical issues. The steering wheel began shaking while driving it home on Friday and became increasingly harder to steer. When this happened I was driving about 15mph in town. I parked it right away. The next day I was unable to turn the wheel at all. The vehicle starts but is completely unable to be driven. After researching more on this issue, I found that there was a recall on 2008 Ford Escapes for this same issue. When I called the dealership and explained what had happened, they had me give them my VIN number. They then informed me that my specific vehicle did not qualify for recall repairs and the recall only applies to vehicles with a specific VIN number. I wanted to reach out and see if there is anything I can do to get this resolved considering this is a mechanical issue out of my control and may be a manufacturing error. Thank you for your assistance with this issue. Taylor vincent.
Electric power assist failed. Steering wheel shakes violently while parked and driving. Steering pulling to sides while driving.
I took my car in when the recall 14s05/NHTSA recall 14v-284 was received and the dealership updated the appropriate modules to prevent loss of steering due to a torque sensor fault. At the time of the recall I was not having any steering problems, so I felt the module updates were to fix any steering problems. As of Jan 4, 2017, the steering wheel started vibrating while in idle. I does not do it all the time. I called the local Ford dealership and they ran the diagnostic test which showed the steering torque sensor was bad and they will be getting me an estimate for repairs. I was told the part itself is relatively inexpensive, but the labor is intense. I feel Ford has taken the easy way out of fixing a potentially hazardous problem. I have always driven Ford cars, but after this costly manufacturing defect I may switch to another make of car.
2008 Ford Escape hybrid steering wheel vibration at idle for approx. 500 miles then all of a sudden while driving on a city street the power steering totally went out. Wrench light went on the dash, then power steering totally gone. I could hardly turn the steering wheel to get it home which was 7 miles away. 3 months before that the air conditioner quit working in August! I had a new air conditioner installed, then a week later 2 blender motors had to be replaced because ac was blowing hot air and heater blew cold air. This model must be a lemon. At this point I think this car is unsafe to drive! I have never had problems like this from Ford. I hope there is a recall on this model but after researching it sounds like Ford is unwilling to do anything about it.
Sudden onset of steering wheel shaking while driving 25 mph, difficulty turning left or right, while turning right steering stopped twice.
I had the recall issue for the power steering addressed and was told it only needed a software update. 5000 miles later the steering wheel began to shake constantly while parked or moving. Now my wife lost total power steering while driving. We called the dealer who gave us the software update and we were told there is nothing else they can do to fix the problem without us paying for it.
While driving my 2008 Ford Escape on the highway the steering wheel began to shake violently, then shortly after the power steering system failed. I looked into this issue and found a recall for 2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury mariner models however after contacting Ford they informed me that the vehicle had already been part of the recall and this is unrelated.
July 2014 I received a recall notice regarding torque sensor/steering column, I took it in to the dealership (stivers Ford/Lincoln in waukee iowa) where they took approx. 5 mins to do whatever it was they were to do regarding the recall. I was not having any issues with my car at that time. Approx. 3 weeks ago (March 2016) I started having problems with my steering wheel shaking and moving back/forth at all times when driving the vehicle and when idling, on highway and streets and being parked, along with odd noises when driving. I took my vehicle in to the dealership (stivers Ford/Lincoln in waukee iowa) yesterday (March 29, 2016) to find out what was wrong, they did a diagnostic test and found that I needed a new torque sensor and steering column. I told them about the recall of the exact same issue from July 2014, the guy in the service dept (steve) called Ford motors and they told him they would not cover the costs. I called Ford motors today (March 30, 2016) at their retail number, the female told me they would not cover the costs and said that the recall had expired and I should of had it fixed then. (there was no issues at the time of the recall with my vehicle and I did take it in to the dealership at the time I received the recall letter). Ford motors knew/knows of the defaulting parts (hence the recall in 2014), they should cover these parts now. Most cars do not go out right at the time of a recall. My vehicle took over a year to go out since the recall, I have found Ford motors to be very dishonest. The service man I spoke with told me he was with me on this issue and believed that Ford motors should cover these costs for repairs of the torque sensor and steering column. Recall letter states: alternatively, the dealer may need to replace the torque sensor or the steering column. This service will be performed free of charge (parts and labor.
I took my 2008 Ford Escape in for a recall on the electric powering steering on October 28, 2015. The Ford dealer reprogrammed the electric power steering. Lss. . When I took the 2008 Ford Escape in for the recall I was under the impression that the sensor was going to be replaced. However the Ford dealer said they only had to reprogram it. February 26, 2016 I took my 2008 Ford Escape to be checked at a auto repair shop. I was told I needed a sensor for the electic power steering. The reason I took it to be checked was the steering wheel would shake and it was very hard to turn. Also it is hard to start. When you turn it over, it want do anything. Then when you try again it would start. I feel Ford took advantage of me. They had to know just reprogramming the electric power steering was not enough. Now I am left to pay for the repairs that should have been taken care of when I took it in for the recall. It seems like 2 or 3 months after I got this Escape paid for it went downhill. I have had it in and out of theshop every ssince. It is repair after repair on this vehicle. Its heartbreaking! especially when you have to pay out hundreds and even over a thousand for continuous repairs. The current issue with the steering wheel shaken would happen sitting still at a light, etc. Also the problem with the vehicle not wanting to start and having to retry to start the vehicle happened when you would try to start the vehicle to go somewhere. The issue being hard to turn happens when you are turning left or right on the road.
August 2014 took my 2008 Ford Escape into local Ford dealer for recall notice recall 14s05 - power steering assist fault issue with torque sensor replacement - lindquist Ford dealership just upgraded a program into my Escape for abt 20-30mins, didn't check any parts for replacement, told me no parts were replaced there was no warning light so they didn't physically take the time to look. February 2016 - no engine light comes on but when I turn the key over for the last 6wks sometimes my Escape starts up sometimes, sometimes it does not with a notice "power steering assist fault" - as weeks went by, the steering wheel is shaking more randomly while driving and stopping. The only way to start my Ford Escape is by remote start to bypass the starter. Recently,I took my car into my local mechanic, after thorough investigation the torque sensor is cracked. I was told by Ford employees, 2 other local Ford dealerships & the mechanic to take the Escape back to the dealership who opened up the original recall back in August 2014. That original dealership did make a claim, Ford warranty denied the claim- the dealership didn't "choose" to tell Ford warranty they never looked at the recall parts in August 2014 they just did the upgrade, their liability "that's what the letter told them to do, no warning light no replacement parts". I paid $70+ for what the mechanic just did for free. That dealership did not check for any parts that needed replaced back on 2014. Not only did the dealership charge me $70, I took the Escape back to the local mechanic and paid $500 for a new torque sensor; same exact part falling under the recall "power steering assist fault". Denied claim on 2/19/2016, reason- it's been over a year since my recall update was done the dealership should have been replaced the part back in 2014. I drive 2 cars, seriously?.
