1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2025

Concerns regarding my 2010 Ford Escape. Within thirty (30) days of purchase, the transmission completely failed, rendering the vehicle inoperable. Additionally, upon further inspection, it was discovered that the entire underbody of the vehicle is severely rusted and corroded. This corrosion appears extensive enough to compromise the structural integrity of the frame and essential safety components. While operating the vehicle prior to transmission failure, I also experienced significant shaking and vibration during both driving and braking. These issues raise major safety concerns, as they could indicate underlying brake, suspension, or frame instability. Given the combination of a failed transmission, extensive underbody rust, and unsafe driving behavior, I believe this vehicle may present a serious risk to myself and others on the road. These types of defects and corrosion levels are unusual for a vehicle of this make and model and could point to a broader safety or manufacturing issue. I am requesting that Ford review this matter urgently and provide direction on possible inspection, repair, or compensation options. I am more than willing to provide documentation, photos, or mechanic reports to assist in your evaluation. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. I look forward to your prompt response regarding next steps.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2021

@12:56pm on 2/11/2021, my car suddenly and without warning lost all electrical power, acceleration, lights, pedal/gas completely unresponsive. The time remained on. It was f with no precipitation on dry/partly snowy pavement on highway us31 just s of the north muskegon/business 31 bypass. I was going about 75 mph and adjusted the cruise control to slow for another vehicle shortly before the shutoff. It is not clear if that is related, because the timing was not immediate. I had not changed lanes in more than a mile, although the road does twist slightly in that location. I had on automatic lights, defrost and rear defrost, bluetooth audio, and cruise control. My tank was just below 1/2 full of gas and the vehicle has been maintained but is not stored in a garage overnight. I coasted to an emergency lane on the passing lane, turned the key off (other than the time, audio, and brakes, nothing else would respond. ) I started the car again after about 60 seconds, it started without problem, and I could continue to my vaccine appointment with no discernible signs of any other issue or error. It was terrifying.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

When driving for as little as ten minutes and other times longer, my truck will lose power while driving and I will start to feel the truck slow up. Then when trying to accelerate I can only get up to 20 mph. Also if I take my foot off the gas, without putting my foot on the brake, it'll come to a halt. It does go over 2,500 rpm on a good day. I cant take off fast even if I wanted to. The only code that has come up when dealing with my issue is the catalyic converter. I have replaced my O2 sensors and got a new converter on but still having the same problem. I even replaced the throttle to see if that would help and it has not. No one has been able to help me figure out the issue. I have taken it to reputable shops and mechanic and spent a ton of money trying to resolve my issues. I am fearful for my safety and my son's safety not knowing when it will lose power. I cant even hold a job at the time being because of this issue with my truck.

I was told by the dealer this is problem with the throttle. I have had this repaired twice, the first under a recall. I had to pay for the second repair. Now it is happening again all within about 2 years. This is very dangerous while driving in traffic and at highway speeds. I was told that this is due to a faulty part that Ford knows about. Electronic throttle body is causing major issues while driving.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2015

I had turned off the highway and was traveling down a busy road when my car completely stopped without warning. Luckily, I was in the right lane and on a bit of a downward slope and was able to steer the "dead" car off the road. I turned off the engine and waited a minute. I turned on the car and it started again. I am concerned as I do a lot of highway driving and if my car suddenly stops like that again, there could be dire consequences. The earliest a dealer can look at my car is January 8th. My local dealer - January 14th. Today is December 28th. After reading some of these reports, I am afraid to drive it. Meanwhile, I need to rent a car, until someone at a Ford dealer is able to look at it this is not the first time this has happened. However, after previously having the car towed to a dealership - I thought the problem was resolved.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2015

My car sometimes suddenly just losing power. I could get killed on the freeway. From researching a bit I see it has something to do with the throttle body control. This has happened two time in the last two weeks. Once as we get getting ready to get on the freeway and the second time as we were crossing a busy intersection, luckily we were able to get across the road without getting hit. I am afraid I have bought an unsafe car.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2015

While driving my tool light came on and car lost power. Pulled over to side of the road and turned off car. Restarted car and light was off then car drove fine. Took my car into bickford fford and was told they can't do anything because the light wasn't on so they can't get a code. How am I suppose to get get the extended warranty on throttle body issues if the light goes away when the car is turned off? I can't drive the car when this happens so how am I suppose to get this covered by Ford? I'm suppose to drive my car with unsafe conditions until it permanently breaks down? seems like a scam.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2015

On August 31, 2015 I was leaving an airport and accelerating to merge onto a highway. I believe I was close to 60mph when I felt something in my car change. All of the electronics were still working, so I knew it was not an issue with my battery. The wrench light appeared and I realized I was no longer able to accelerate. I immediately got over to the right lane and by this time my speed had dropped to 40mph. I was able to safely pull over and put my car into park. The rpms spiked and I turned my car off. After waiting a minute or so I was able to restart my car with no problem. I got back onto the highway and took my exit. Maybe 5-7 miles from the location of the first incident, I was driving approximately 40mph down a 2-lane street when the same thing happened. This time both the wrench light and the engine light were on. Once again I pulled over, put my car into park, the rpm's spiked higher this time. I shut my car off. I was again able to restart my car right away with no problem. In the 9 days since this happened I haven't experienced this problem again. I am extremely nervous my engine will shut off on a highway again, in a location where I will not be able to pull over safely. When I called Ford they said my warranty covers the throttle body, so they have scheduled the throttle body repair for September 11, 2015. This is a very common problem, and I think Ford needs to address this for the safety of all drivers.

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2015

When I began to takeoff the engine or trans hesitated badly and the "wrench" light came on and stayed on until I turned off the engine. When I restarted the engine the wrench light did not come on. Next day while driving the engine and transmission hesitated again and the wrench light came back on. This still continues.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2015

While moving in left of two lanes in moderate traffic at ~58 mph the car lost all power. Accelerator did not function. 'wrench' warning light on dashboard was illuminated. All electrical equipment, power brakes, and power steering seemed to function normally. Vehilce had no power, meaning that driver could not control speed of vehicle. Right turn signal was activated and the vehicle was 'coasted' to the right berm -- almost being hit by another vehicle! driver sat in vehicle assessing status of all gauges and (warning) lights. Nothing appeared out of ordinary except for 'wrench' light. Vehicle was turned of. After 30 second pause, vehicle was restarted. Wrench light was not illuminated and, again, all gauges and lights appeared normal. Re-entered traffic and successfully reached grocery store -- 1 mile away. Vehicle was parked. Upon completion of shopping vehicle was started and driver was able to return home (~5 miles) without event reoccurring. This is an extremely dangerous situation. It is only through 'good luck' that our vehicle was not hit by other traffic. Driver had zero control over vehicle speed.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2015

The indicator showed upon starting the car, a red warning light "engine check". I was able to drive home less than a mile in at a slow speed, no acceleration was possible. The next morning my husband followed me to the nearest local car repair shop which is 12 miles from my home. Again, no acceleration was possible. The car required that the electronic throttle body be replaced. There is a field service action on this model. The previous year the car had been taken to the Ford dealership, where the car was purchased, for a voluntary safety defect check for this same issue. Apparently the temporary fix, reprogramming the control, that was performed on my vehicle the previous year was not satisfactory to resolve the issue. This is a danger to operating vehicles, since there is no warning until the service goes out in the performance of this part. Fortunately I was near my home at the time of the occurrence and was able to safely get to a car repair shop down a rural road for repairs. I would not have been able to drive the car on a city street or highway. Basically the car should have been towed in for repairs.
