Turn into a parking space and hit the brake to stop , car surged forward and jumped the curb. Hit a bus shelter, side swiped a tree , then jump curb back to parking lot before Escape came to a full stop. First time sled on a small patch of ice car surged brakes never took hold slid and avoided and street light and a tree before coming to a full stop. Took car to shop for oil change had brakes checked said no problem. But sometimes this SUV has a power surge when appling brakes.
Was driving, and transmission wouldn't allow rpm to go above 500 and continued to drop to 0 and shut off in the middle of the road.
While driving into work with my cruise control set at 60mph, my vehicle suddenly sputtered and the cruise control disengaged and there seemed to be a loss of power. I remember this description from the throttle bottle notification I received from Ford a few months back. I had taken my Escape into the dealership on 9/11/14 to have this taken care off and now 2 weeks later my vehicle now has the throttle control/powertrain warning light on and is showing all signs of the notification from Ford. I know this issue has already been addressed, but now I am questioning as to whether or not Ford is actually fixing the problem.
I was traveling on interstate I-75 when I experienced a sudden loss of power. I was able to manuever my car to the shoulder of the road. I turned my car off, waited a few minutes and restarted my car. The car when into drive and accelerated with no problem. I am very concerned about this problem. This is a major highway that I travel daily to and from work in rush hour traffic. Thankfully, I was not hit in the rear of the car by oncoming semi trucks. I would appreciate some advice on this problem.
Car coasted to a stop with engine running. Had to stop put in park, shut off and restart and put in gear to move. We have been told it is a throttle body issue and no warrantee coverage. It has happened 4 times since yesterday. In traffic it is very dangerous and my wife was almost rear ended today.
While accelerating to pull out into traffic gas pedal quit working and wrench light came on when hitting about 20 mph and car slowed to a crawl. Car stayed idling, but gas pedal quit working all together. Idled down first side street and shut the car off. Restarted vehicle 2 mins later and gas pedal started working again. Car idle revs up for a second suddenly on its own at slow speeds like waiting in a drive thew and causes the car to jerk forward if brake pedal is not pressed on firmly. Sometimes feels like the person behind you has hit your car when they haven't.
Me and my son were out I was driving around 35- 40 mph and my car started to feel strange out of the blue my wrench light comes on and then my engine light I lose all power I am hitting gas petal nothing happens. Just stops on busy street . I was terrified for our safety. I turn off car wait a few mins and start again it happened 3 times in a 3 mile radius. Its parked and not risking my life or somebody else.

While traveling about 65 mph down the highway my 2010 Ford Escape's engine stopped completely. A warning light (the wrench on the Ford models) came on as a I coasted to a safe spot on the highway. Steering gave out a bit too. Car started right back up after I found a safe location to stop.
I was driving at 40mph on a city street. The vehicle suddenly shuddered and began to slow down. I am now aware to look for a trouble light. The wrench light was illuminated although difficult to see through the glare of the windshield. I was clearly able to see the light. The car slowed to a complete stop. The engine continued to run rough and there was no loss of electrical power. I put the car into park and restarted the car. The car ran without incident until I was able to park at home-about 5 miles away. The car had routine service on 7-16-2014. A throttle body reading was not done, as I requested at time of service, although it was was documented, in writing, that there was a calibration update for my vehicle at this time. A previous incident of complete electrical failure was blamed on a faulty battery in March. I had had absolutely no previous indication "failure" or cranking issues up until the time of electrical power/battery failure. Even the key fob did not work to unlock the doors. The battery was replaced at my expense. Inquiries about the throttle body issue was were also ignored, by the dealer, at that time.
Driving in city 35-40 mph vehicle slowed to idle . Pulled over because wrench light lit up,sat for 15-20 minutes vehicle restarted.
Wrench light came on and vehicle began sputtering and idling low, unable to exceed 5 mph.
While traveling 60 mph on I-45 south of houston, TX. My 2010 Ford Escape lost power. I immediately had to manuver across 3 lanes of traffic while coasting to a stop. Luckily I was not hit!!! I turned the vehicle off and allowed it to sit for a few minutes. I restarted it and the orange wrench symbol appearred on the dash. I turned it off and restarted it again. This time the malfunction indicator lamp came on. I drove the vehicle home with limited operation, decreased engine power and and vehicle speed. I experienced failure one more time during this trip. When I had the diagnostic trouble codes (dtc) pulled it was p2111, "throttle body stuck open. " researching it on the internet revealed NHTSA action number pe13003.
I was driving on highway (with two children under 4 in the car), luckily it was stop and go traffic. The car completely and without warning lost power and I could no longer accelerate. I was able to put hazards on and pull over to the break-down lane (across three lanes of traffic), turn the car off and back on again. It restarted immediately. (weather was warm- mid 60s, no humidity, I had driven the car earlier in the day and had been driving for about 20 minutes. The car is well maintained and had recently had an oil change. ).

This is the third incident in two days, I'm driving along when I take my foot of the gas pedal and coast, the engine dies, the dash shows the battery and oil light. You can still steer, but the car slows down drastically with the engine not running, I had someone almost rear end me, because I slowed down so much. All incidents were the same, but the first time it happened it was very scary because you didn't know what was happening and you didn't know what to do. The car will start back up if you park it or put it in neutral, but I was in the middle of an intersection the third time, stopped traffic cars were honking at me. This is a huge safety issue, taking it in tomorrow to get it fixed, should be a recall.
2010 Ford Escape. Consumer writes seeking reimbursement for throttle body replacement.
Escape sitting at stop light wrench light illuminated on dash and Escape had no power turned car off and then restarted the Escape and drove home not another issue for the next 16 miles. . Used obdii code reader to scan Escapes on board computer and it had freeze frame data from a p2111 code which indicates throttle body issue.
While driving the engine started misfiring and idling rough. Vehicle lost power, would not accelerate and I rolled to the side of the road where I restarted the car and it drove normally.
2010 Ford Escape. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle throttle body issues. The consumer she received a letter regarding the throttle body, but didn't think it sounded too serious. The letter stated engine power and vehicle speed would be reduced. The consumer stated she had the misfortune of experiencing the problem on March 16, 2014. The speed was not just reduced, but the gas pedal was inoperable and the vehicle just coasted to a stop, as if she had run out of gas. All the while, the engine was running, although not smoothly and all the lights were in working order. Minutes later, the wrench light illuminated on the dashboard.
After I came to a stop in residential area, I traveled about 25 mph and the vehicle seemed to be in neutral, I was able to steer to the side of the road, but nothing happened when I put more pressure on the accelerator, this was really frightening to experience without a warning, and I will never buy another Ford vehicle, at about 18 months after owning the vehicle the entire transmission had to be rebuilt and I bought this brand new to avoid issues.
The engine went into a low power mode and throttle was un responsive, I had to cruse to a stop and restart then it seems ok but I notice the throttle will speed up and slow down when I had to run thru a school zone(low speed) it also happened several times after that most recently on 4/21/14 on the highway at 65 mph and I had to drift to the shoulder to restart the car while others honked and veered around me I do not understand why Ford has not recalled these. I did get a letter called the customer satisfaction program 13n03 that states the problem- throttle body- is under extended warranty but only if the wrench light is on and mine stays on only when there is a problem if there is additional problems I would have to pay just to get it diagnosed. I am not impressed with Fords attempt at this (soft) recall.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vent controls failed without warning. The contact was unable to use the air conditioning and heating function. Years before, the dealer replaced the power steering control module and the ic module, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body sensor and blower motor failed. The contact later experienced an extremely strong vibration in the steering wheel and the power steering warning light flashed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for further inspection to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The dealer replaced the parts. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,411.
I was stopped, waiting to make a left hand turn and mid-turn, the car turned off. Fortunately, there wasn't any traffic approaching my car or this could have resulted in a serious accident.
While driving down the interstate my Escape suddenly lost power and slowed to around 5 mph. I pulled to the shoulder, placed the car in park, shut it off, waited a few minutes, then started it and continued on my way. This has happened two more times since, both while traveling 30 mph in town. I followed the same procedure and was able to continue on my way. I believe this to be an issue with the throttle body, as I have consulted my local mechanic. He confirmed that he has seen a few Escapes with the same issue.
I was driving along a road and suddenly my car jolted and almost all of my dashboard lights lit up. The engine was on, but nothing was happening. I pushed the accelerator down and nothing, still. As I was pulling off to the side of the road, the car died. I waited five minutes and the engine was able to be restarted. But the engine light stayed on. I had to turn the engine on and off multiple times to restart the engine. This had happened a couple of times before, but nothing as severe.
While driving on surface streets the "wrench" indicator light came on and the car went into limp mode. I got to a parking lot and shut off the engine. After about a minute I restarted the engine, the wrench light went out and all seemed ok. After driving about 6-7 miles on the interstate a repeat of the problem happened. I again shut off the engine. After restarting, I drove for another 6-7 miles and had the car again go into limp mode. After restarting the car the engine light came on and stayed on with no further problems. The next day all lights were off and have stayed off since then. I have made an appointment to have the car looked at on Jan 2, 2014. I feel that this is a very unsafe condition and should be looked at very closely by the NHTSA.
I was driving south on hwy 53, doing 55 mph when the car jumped out of gear. The engine was still running at idlespeed, but when I depressed the gas pedal nothing happened. Also the wrench light and the engine light where both on. I had to pull off the side of the road to avoid traffic and shut off the engine. I waited a minute and it started right back up with only the engine light on. This was the 5th time this happened in 2 days and was the same each time. I drove straight to the dealer where I had bought it and they did a check and retrieved p2111 in koec, then performed etb internal ids pinpoint test. Etb or throttle body failed test. They replaced the throttle body and motor asy, which is a known problem, and charged me $432. 65. I believe Ford should have replaced this at no cost, since this is a known problem.
Driving on four lane road when lost engine power to idle. Accelerator pedal non-responsive. Drove vehicle four miles back to home. Had to restart engine seven times to return home. Plugged in code reader, it stated the throttle body actuator sticking closed.
Began to run very rough. On July 13, 2013, I experienced a similar problem. Malloy Ford in winchester, va, charged me $310 to clean the throttle body. After doing some research, I see this is a known problem, I'm disgusted with Ford and the dealership.
Vehicle failed, as it stopped an alarm lit up, showing a wrench, diagnostic showed a trottle failure. It has happened (5) times since Dec 04, 2013. Last time, it failed after seventeen (17) miles run. When vehicle is turned off, the alarm light goes off and the vehicle runs again.
I was driving down a very busy 5-lane road when all of a sudden a wrench appeared on my dashboard and my car had absolutely no power in the accelerator. It began idling irrationally and my car was shaking. I had it towed to the Ford dealership to be fixed. It is the throttle body that is malfunctioning, and they guaranteed to me that it would happen again if not fixed. They informed me that there have been many vehicles with this same problem. Someone is going to be killed due to this! I was lucky that no one hit me- I could not even get over to the side of the road- my vehicle just had no power at all. If this happens on a highway, this could be horrific! I am extremely disappointed and upset that a recall has not been issued. There have been thousands of complaints, and nothing has been done. Someone is going to be severely hurt or be killed due to this issue!.
I was stopped at a stoplight and as I accelerated to go through when it turned green, the car just completely died - no warning. It restarted right away so I continued on my way. About an hour later, I had just turned into my neighborhood, so I was going about 10-15 mph and it died again. We took it into the shop and since it was not dying for them, they told us they could not pinpoint the problem. We went for probably 9 months without this happening again, and then about 3 weeks ago, we were driving about 55 mph and it just randomly died again. We took it into the shop this time and they told us that it was the purge valve. $1500 later, the problem is still not fixed. Today, it died 3 times in a matter of 5 minutes, all inside of a parking garage. This car is too new to be pouring thousands of dollars into it - especially if this problem is as common as it seems.
I heard a pop sound and there was no response when pressing on the accelerator. Idle was rough, I was able to coast into a parking lot. I let it idle and tried to increase rpm. There was no response to pedal. The car idle roughly. I shut car off and restarted. It cranked longer than normal, like it wasn't getting fuel. Then it ran fine. After about 20 more miles it repeated process, leaving me to coast off the road in traffic. I have a warning light (wrench) meaning throttle body or drive train on my dash during the shut down. I have had this vehicle in Ford repair shops over four times for powertrain repairs, starting before warranty was expired. The last one Ford would not cover the repair under previous warranty, even though the first repair during warranty period was never fixed. Now I am endangering myself and all those around me by the new problem. If the vehicle does this in a center lane a pile up could occur.
