1 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2019

While driving in a variety of circumstances, (in town at stoplight and accelerating on highway) my 2010 Ford Escape will just shut off. No warning, just dies. I have been to 4 mechanics including one at a Ford dealer just today. No codes show, so every time I am basically told that they "can't duplicate issue" and I am sent on my way with no remedy for what is a very dangerous malfunction. I just called Ford and started a case number to see what they will do. Judging from other comments I have read on internet, I am not hopeful. I cannot understand why a recall wasn't issued and how I am just learning about the scope of the problem now-after spending $20k on this vehicle.

2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2019

My vehicle is experiencing a throttle body failure. Per the Ford dealer it is only covered under the extended warranty if it does it during a test drive by a dealer. The vehicle is patently unsafe. It shuts down in all driving situations, highway speeds, surface road speeds, while moving. I have almost been in multiple accidents due to this issue. The local dealer - fowler Ford - is not following Ford's directive and is charging me for a diagnostic when Ford says not to. The 2010 Ford Escape is a death trap. I am now stuck with a vehicle that has had multiple recalls for less serious issues, but the one issue that can get someone killed does not qualify for a recall? this makes no sense, I am afraid to drive the vehicle, but have no choice. Why was Ford allowed to get away with an extended warranty on a part that fails randomly, while the vehicle is moving in traffic. It seems that Ford was given a pass on an issue that will get someone killed.

3 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2019

The vehicle flex fuel system is horrible and the vehicle shuts off for no apparent reason. We have have had the vehicle inspected and reviewed by mechanics, who come back with one issue, the flex fuel set up. So we ordered and replaced the flex fuel pipe 2 times now. The engine light still continues to pop back on after a couple of days go by. The car shutting off while driving is a safety issue. This vehicle was purchased for my 16 year old daughter from a dealership less than a year ago. I am scared to death she will crash when the vehicle shuts off on the interstate. The 2011 recall Ford issued covered the same type of issue, which in my opinion should be expanded. My daughter just called and stated that the car shut off 5 times in the course of a mile. Luckily, she was local.

4 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2017

While driving down the highway at 60 mph, the car suddenly and without warning shuts off. I was not able to pull safely over and nearly caused several accidents as this was during my normal morning rush hour commute. It is a very serious safety concern for me. Mechanic said he test drove the car and was unable to experience the sudden shut down. Additionally, this happened on city streets at approximately 35 mph, same thing suddenly and without warning the car shuts down.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

When I put gas in car it is difficult to start, after starting it shut off while driving.

6 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

My daughter and I were driving home traveling at approximately 40 mph. All of a sudden without any warning the car totally lost power and I had to coast into a driveway. Had my daughter been driving by herself she would not know how to remain calm and get to the side of the road. Fortunately I have been driving for a long time and knew what to do. Once I turned the vehicle off and back on it ran fine. I thought it was an isolated incidence and thought maybe we had junk in the fuel. The next time I drove the vehicle we were doing 60 mph when it shut down again and this time I was on the freeway next to a semi in heavy traffic and had to turn my emergency flashers on and coast to the shoulder. I had to cut off vehicles in the right lane to get safely to the shoulder. Once again I turned the vehicle off and back on again and went home. My husband did research on the internet and found that there were lots of complaints with identical symptoms and when they went to the Ford dealership were told they knew nothing about this problem. The other people found out that it was the throttle body that needed replacement. We went to the local Ford dealership and asked about it and they played dump and said they hadn't heard anything about it and were actually rude to us. I located a throttle body in stock at a Ford dealership 3 hours away. We picked the part up and my husband installed it. It took approximately 1 hour to replace and cost $207. 22. I have not had a problem since. It is criminal to allow this to go unfixed. It posses a terrible risk to drivers. The throttle body is not just on the 2009-2013 Ford Escape it is also on : 2010-2012 Ford fusion, 2011-2013 Lincoln mkz, 2010-2011 Mercury milan, and 2009-2011 Mercury mariner.

7 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2014

Vehicle's engine cuts out and I lose control. It has happened numerous times and one time the engine shut down three times during a short trip of ten miles. I have to turn the key off and start the engine again. Fortunately we don't travel very fast here.

8 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2013

I recently purchased a 2010 Ford Escape XLT. About 5 days after the purchase, my wife and I came to a stop sign. We started to make a left turn and the car stalled, sputtered, and surged around 600 rpm. A car was coming towards us and almost t-boned our vehicle because we could not accelerate. The wrench light indicating that there was a problem with the throttle body came on. We had to get the vehicle off the road and shut it off. After cranking the Escape again the code cleared and the vehicle drove fine for a little while until this occurred again. I have since cleaned the throttle body but this has not fixed the problem. The Escape has stalled several times since then including while merging onto the interstate at around 50 mph. It just shuts down to about 15 mph out of no where, the throttle body light comes on and it will not accelerate. I bought this vehicle for my wife, but cannot let her drive it for fear of her getting in a serious accident. This is very dangerous and Ford should have a recall on the defective throttle body.

11 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

Driving on highway at about 50 mph, sounded like engine shut down and the gas wouldn't work at all. Thankfully, the brakes worked and I pulled over and turned the car off for a few minutes before turning it back on and driving to my mechanic who recommended going to my Ford dealer. They charged me over $500 to replace the throttle body and reprogram the pcm. . . Any recalls from Ford for this?.

On 6/18/2013 I was driving around 45 mph and my Escape's engine/power train completely turned off and I coasted onto the shoulder. I waited a few minutes and it started again. I took it to a garage we use and they could not find the problem. A few days later the engine shut down again when I was driving around 60 mph. I coasted to the shoulder of the highway, waited a few minutes and started it again. On 8/2/2013 the engine shut down once again. This time the engine light came on. 15 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2013

I was driving down a local street then I was approaching a train crossing, just before crossing the tracks, my car went limp and I could no longer accelerate. I was only traveling 5-10mph so when my car stopped, part of my car was over the train tracks. I could not move my car for about a minute while I parked my car and turned everything off, including opening the car door to shut the computer off. Then after resetting the car, it struggled to start up but started and drove as usual. Within the last two days, my car shut down during driving 5 times and when re-starting, it did not indicate that there was a problem. Finally the check engine icon turned on and I was able to take it to the dealership to check the code. It turned out that the throttle body needed replacing. My car is only 3 years old with average mileage. This could have been an terrible accident if there was a train and I was in a state of panic.

16 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2012

2010 Ford Escape engine stalls at random times: it's happened to me six times now. First while I was driving 65 mph on the interstate in the middle lane when suddenly, with no warning, I was no longer able to get enough throttle to continue moving forward. I had to coast to the side of the road. I was almost rear-ended, I really thought I was going to be killed. It is a very scary situation, going from 65 mph to nothing. The car just shuts off and goes into some type of rough idle mode and a little orange wrench appears on the dash. After stopping and turning off the engine it will start back up. First occurrence was December 7th, 2012, second and third were several days later. Fourth and fifth were January 24th 2013 and the sixth on January 25, 2013. Four times were on the interstate at speeds of 60-65mph. Two times were on main streets at 35-40 mph. Car was purchased new and all service as required has been performed at dealership. Took car in after first two stalls they stated they could find nothing wrong.

17 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2012

While driving down the road the Escape just shut off without warning. I put it in park and it started again. I took it to the dealership and they couldn't find a reason. It happened again on the 8th of April when driving to work I just got off the highway to an exit ramp and it shut off again. I put it in park and it started back up and shut off again just over a mile down the road. I have taken it to the dealership and they can't find anything wrong with the Escape.
