Ford recall of power steering reset the computer. Power steering still failed requiring the sensor that was not replaced to be replaced. The problem presented with the same error codes and symptoms that caused the recall. Ford said that the recall was already completed. At the time they flashed the memory on the device instead of replacing.
I was waiting for the green light and when I began moving the steering whell went very hard to operate for a few seconds and began working normally after that. It happened twice with only a few seconds in between. After that it became normal until I turned off the car. Next time I turned on the car until today it have never been normal again and it's very hard to operate, even worse at low speeds. The following message is displayed: power steering assist failure.
I was driving my 2010 Ford Escape and went to turn a corner and heard a beeping chime and the vehicle became hard to turn. I was able to pull into a parking spot and turn the car off. When I started it back up and had problems turning out of the spot then it was fine. I drove it home and when I went to turn into the driveway it started chiming again and the power steering assist failed came on the dashboard. It won't turn or anything. I looked it up online and found out this is a common problem that has been going on with the 2010 Escapes and there was a recall out on it. I called Ford and gave them my VIN number but they said it wasn't covered in the recall. I took it to my auto repair shop and they told me that the whole steering column has to be replaced. It's costing me $1,753.

Power steering was lost while driving. Power steering is now in manual mode. Power assisted steering has failed. Dealer says that this vehicle is not part of the recall that has affected several others. Same components as other recalled Escapes. As Ford dealer charged $150 to diagnose the issue.
Ford very well knows that this is a serious safety issue. The power steering assist fails unexpectedly. They are putting $$$ over safety.

My 2010 Ford Escape was part of recall 14s05 which dealt with the sudden loss of power steering. I was notified of this recall in 2014 when I had no problem with the power steering but after receiving the notice, I took the vehicle to the local Ford dealership where they reprogrammed the pscm. The power steering actually failed this year while my wife had the vehicle out of town. It was necessary to remove and replace the steering column at a cost of $1265. 43 which Ford refuses to pay even though this repair is specifically listed in the original recall. Had I not taken the vehicle to the dealership when I first received the notice, the cost would have been covered. The steering failed while driving and making a turn on a side street. I can provide all relevant documentation.
Vehicle steering first failed while driving at 45 mph. A power on/off restart of the vehicle restored power sterring once. 4 days later, steering failed as the vehicle was powered on with a "power steering failure" (or similar) message on the center dash. This behavior is extremely similar to the behavior that recall 14s05 was supposed to fix, but the Ford and the dealer is claiming the software update done in 2014 was sufficient and won't honor additional repairs. I strongly think NHTSA and Ford need to do an additional recall.
Tl the contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the power steering failed. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 196,000.
I was driving home mid day turning on to the main street when my power steering went out. It is a tight turn and lucky I had a hold of my steering wheel because it took everything I had to keep the car in the correct direction and not hit the pillar for a restaurant on this street corner. As this happened I did hear an alert going off in my car after the situation was under control I noticed my dash had a warning on it saying power steering failure. My thought was how stupid is that I already know this steering is out. I called the Ford dealership I have taken my car to in the past and they informed me that there were no recalls on the steering, but before I had called them I did some research and found that my car did indeed have a past recall from 2014 for this steering problem. While on the phone w the dealership I informed them of this recall and they informed that this recall was repaired on my car in October 2014 with a software update. According to what I understand this software was just to install a warning chime & the dash warning. I want to know how this software fixes this dangerous problem. I could've been in a bad accident if was a weaker person. I can not afford to have this problem fixed at a Ford dealership so I will be having this fixed at local shop at a cost to me of approximately $1,000. Ford should be required to repair this dangerous mechanical issue or reimburse customers who already had this repaired. Why wasn't Ford required in the 1st recall to do this repair correctly. I beg you before there are more injuries or even deaths to recall this again and require Ford to fix this issue. I did file a complaint with Ford motor where it seemed they could've cared less. I do not have an invoice as of today only received an estimate at this time for repairs. As soon as these repairs are complete I will save a copy for future reference.
Power steering failed when arriving to job site as I pulled in the dash board flashed power steering fault and that was it no more power steering. Noticed that on the way to work had a ghoast steering the steering wheel moved on its own it twetched on own 50 miles later it went out.
The electronic power steering assist failed while driving and resulted in extreme difficult driving and danger. I called Ford and spent over $400 having dealerships look at it and give me $2,000 estimates and saying it wasn't covered under the recall it should have been. I spoke with corporate Ford at a point who stated the recall was already completed in 2014, however, the same problem persists and creates a strong danger to drive. The have repeatedly refused to honor the recall that they themselves claim was fixed, and I'm left with a faulty and dangerous vehicle on the road with no choice but to keep driving it to get to work. Why won't they honor their recall? it is obviously the exact problem they claim to have fixed.

Power steering failure while driving. Very dangerous. 139xxx miles on car. Ford knows this steering column is faulty. All plants, not just kc plant, should have been on the Ford 14s05 recall. $1862 to repair that requires Ford only calibration tool.
The power steering assist failed resulting in dangerous driving with minimal steering. There is a recall for this on most vehicles of the same year, make, and mode, however Ford is refusing to honor the recall on my specific vehicle, even though the same issue arose. I was driving on a street when it happened, and it gave out suddenly with no warning.
While in the middle of a turn on a city street the electronic assisted power steering failed without warning nearly causing a crash. The posted recall associated with this failure is 14s05 and this VIN should be included.

Pcm has water damage due to placement under the hood. When the hood is opened water runs down directly onto the unit and into the wiring. The repeated water exposure has caused the unit to fault. This water intrusion causes the vehicle to fail to start intermittently. When turning the ignition, the vehicle will fail to engage the starter; however, headlights, radio are functional. Intermittently while operating the vehicle, all of the lights on the instrument cluster illuminate and the tachometer and speedometer will stop reading speed and rmps, resetting to zero. When this occurs it not impair operation of the vehicle. Additionally, the steering torque sensor is failing. Intermittently, the vehicle will display "power steering assist failure" on the instrument cluster. When this occurs, turning the car on and off repeatedly will temporarily resolve the issue.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. While driving 55 mph, the power steering failed to turn left or right without warning. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. The power steering failed with out notice on my wife and caused her to lose control entering our driveway. She drove into the mailbox and front ditch. I pulled the SUV out and we took the vehicle to the local Ford dealer due to this concern and recall 14v284000. The steering unit had failed as claimed in the recall issued by Ford, however they claim since it was checked a year and a half ok it is no longer covered. This is the recalled part that failed and it was never replaced just checked. They are trying to charge me $800 for the torque sensor which failed.
My daughter lillian johnson- while driving power steering failed- locking up the steering wheel and making it very difficult to turn the vehicle. "power steering assist fault" warning light on dash- brought to saxon Ford, mpls to discuss- said nor recall even though web is full of this same problem with vehicle said this one not in recall. $950 later replaced the power steering torque sensor- (code dtc2278) (but now horn does not work ).
A recall was issued in 2014 for the power steering. I took my vehicle to the dealer and the "fixed" the recall in oct of 2014. Today the power steering failed while my husband was driving the car. He was also making a turn in a busy intersection. Had I been driving, I would not have been able to control the car with manual steering and may have caused an accident. I have put less than 20k miles on the car since the "fix" but I am outside the 2 year or 12,000 mile warranty period for the recall. It takes my about 30 seconds to find others on forums that this exact same thing has happened to. I don't think a software fix (which is what was done) was the appropriate fix for a determined faulty part, the torque sensor. Ford needs to do the right thing and recall the part and not take the easy way out and do a software update.

Intermittent power steering failure. This failure has happened four times in the past year. The power steering failed at low and moderate speeds, on city streets, without warning. This issue is very dangerous and could easily case an accident. I have contacted customer service and have been referred to a local dealer to investigate the problem.
