2 Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2019

Drove to school everything okay, came out after practice and 2010 Ford Escape would not turn when pulling out of parking spot. The wheel would click each time you turned a quarter of a turn right or left. After receiving assistance, learned the vehicle would turn but it was extremely difficult and no power steering. Took to sparks autorepair (1665 scherer pkwy, st charles, mo 63303) they diagnosed a steering column computer failure. This vehicle could lock up the steering at any time while driving. As a vehicle owner, I am forced to fix it. From what I have read, seems like there has been more than just myself experiencing this issue and it seems like on particular vins there was a recall. Reporting the issue of a serious steering issue is pretty important. This isn't a simple fix. Be safe 2010 Escape owner/operators. We were lucky no one was hurt.

5 Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

Recall 14s05. I received a recall notice regarding my power steering shortly after purchasing this vehicle. I took it in as instructed. The dealership "reprogrammed it" as instructed by Ford. Now the torque sensor that was also under same recall is out and they will not fix it. They are telling me the recall was satisfied. After doing some research and reading other stories about the same issue I feel this was a scam by Ford to satisfy the recall. They are pushing the cost to the consumer. The reprogram is just a warning that the steering is going to fail it was never any fix. The sensor should have been replaced. This is a safety warning on their own admission when you call to inquire about the recall. I really think this is wrong on every level.

13 Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

My vehicle is displaying the electric steering assist failure warning and the steering wheel is shuddering at all speeds. The steering wheel also pushes back at times. Problem started at 115,000 miles. I have had extensive communication with fmc and they steadfastly refused to admit any liability. They say that they will never fix this issue under any circumstances unless the federal government forces them to do so. They suggest that I have a dealer fix it at my expense. There have been many reports of instantaneous failures resulting in loss of control. This is an inherent problem with all second generation Escapes. Over 1 million Ford vehicles have the faulty components. Ford is stonewalling the problem in an attempt to avoid the multi billion dollar tab. You must act quickly! most of us do not have $1500 to replace the electric steering unit. Many will continue to drive and endanger others in rapidly increasing numbers. I can send my communication with fmc.

15 Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2013

I've had 2 instances of loss of steering assist on my 2010 Ford Escape. The first instance was at approximately 45 mph. Steering assist failed. The wheel was very difficult for my husband to turn. He slowed the car down, turned on the hazards, and pulled over. The car was shut off and started again. Power assist worked again at start-up. Our three children and I were also in the car, and I'm surprised we were not rear-ended. The second instance was when I was in line at a drive-through. I couldn't turn the wheel when pulling forward. I shut the car off and restarted. Power assist worked at start-up. I contacted the Ford dealership, who was very aware of the issue and quoted me $1100-1400 repairs. Car was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the issues as a faulty power assist motor. Replacement was quoted at $1400. I commute 50 miles round trip every day. I am very worried of the steering assist failing on the highway or while my children are in the car again. Failure occurred at 75,000 miles.
