Three problems related to transmission fluid leaking have been reported for the 2010 Ford Escape. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2010 Ford Escape based on all problems reported for the 2010 Escape.
Transmission - center support snap ring failure at 47,774 miles on vehicle. While parked attempting to shift from "park" to "drive" very loud clunking sound under vehicle at shifter/center console. Vehicle was inspected 8/2016 all fluids topped off at dealer. A few days ago heard loud clunking sound - checked transmission fluid "none" completely empty (no leaking on ground) filled transmission fluid - same sound - immediately took to dealer. Dealer advised center support snap ring failed - instructed me to call Ford directly reference "Ford special service message #22547" as this is a "known defect with this vehicle". Called Ford directly - case number was opened but no offer to assist with transmission replacement. Dealer quoted $4,500 to replace transmission $2,600 for repair (repair is only guaranteed for 2 years) replacement is guaranteed for 3 years. Thanks for nothing Ford!.
As I was driving the car the throttle suddenly would not let me 'go' any further and the car slowed to a stop in the middle of the road. When stopped, it shuddered in place until I turned the car off. This happened another time just after a busy intersection, but Ford apparently does not deem this a safety concern, even though this is a family vehicle and the consequences for problems like this could be terrible. The vehicle has been in the shop 5 times in the last year for the above problem twice, another couple of times for leaking transmission fluid (which I am also led to believe could cause the car to stop in traffic if the leak remains undetected one of these times), and another for hard shifts both accelerating and decelerating. All of these problems are ones that Ford seems unable to fix and doesn't seem to care happened. I keep waiting for a recall to be issued for at least some of these problems, since in several situations I do feel very strongly this was a safety issue and do not appreciate my children having to ride in an unreliable car. I also do not have the money to throw at a 2010 car every couple of months. I would appreciate your looking into these problems. Thanks!.
The left front axle seal began leaking fluid.
