1 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2020

First I notice the car just drop gears and nearly stop on the off ramp of the highway. Second time I tried to reverse and it would not move and I had to call a tow truck to take it to the garage. Ford told me it needed a new transmission. Ford dealership wanted to charge me over $ 5000 for the job. I winded up going to a lee myles that charge cost to $ 4000 for the repairs it had done. Now few months later and the vehicle is shaking upon start up and idiling. Whenever I drive the car it feels like its jerks slightly when going at higher speeds. Changed out the air filter, rebuilt transmission and still having problem after problems with this 2010 Ford Escape.

2 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2017

Vehicle has a power train failure when driving on the highway. At about 70 mph the car will begin to shudder and lose speed rapidly. The problem does not persist immediately thereafter, if we pull off of the highway and shut the car off, wait a few minutes, and start it up again, the power train light is off.

3 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2014

I was driving at 40mph on a city street. The vehicle suddenly shuddered and began to slow down. I am now aware to look for a trouble light. The wrench light was illuminated although difficult to see through the glare of the windshield. I was clearly able to see the light. The car slowed to a complete stop. The engine continued to run rough and there was no loss of electrical power. I put the car into park and restarted the car. The car ran without incident until I was able to park at home-about 5 miles away. The car had routine service on 7-16-2014. A throttle body reading was not done, as I requested at time of service, although it was was documented, in writing, that there was a calibration update for my vehicle at this time. A previous incident of complete electrical failure was blamed on a faulty battery in March. I had had absolutely no previous indication "failure" or cranking issues up until the time of electrical power/battery failure. Even the key fob did not work to unlock the doors. The battery was replaced at my expense. Inquiries about the throttle body issue was were also ignored, by the dealer, at that time.

4 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

Driving on highway using cruise control setting at 65 mph, when all of sudden vehicle began to slow down and stall on me. I had to pull over on the side of the road because the vehicle was shaking and I could not give it power to stay with traffic speed. I got to the side put the vehicle in park and it still was shaken so I turned it off. I then waited a minute or so and started the vehicle back up even though it was hesitating to start. Once back on I drove with my hazard on at a speed of 50 mph.

5 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

I was driving down a very busy 5-lane road when all of a sudden a wrench appeared on my dashboard and my car had absolutely no power in the accelerator. It began idling irrationally and my car was shaking. I had it towed to the Ford dealership to be fixed. It is the throttle body that is malfunctioning, and they guaranteed to me that it would happen again if not fixed. They informed me that there have been many vehicles with this same problem. Someone is going to be killed due to this! I was lucky that no one hit me- I could not even get over to the side of the road- my vehicle just had no power at all. If this happens on a highway, this could be horrific! I am extremely disappointed and upset that a recall has not been issued. There have been thousands of complaints, and nothing has been done. Someone is going to be severely hurt or be killed due to this issue!.

6 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2013

Tonight I was driving home doing about 55mph when my vehicle suddenly shuddered and lost all power. Luckily I was able to coast it to where it was mostly off of the road. It did not die but continued to shake while in high idle. The power steering was not working properly and no engine lights came on. Pushing the gas pedal produced zero results. I shut it down and pondered whether to try and start it back up or just call a tow truck. Being out in the country I decided to take a chance. It started up and ran fine. . . For less than two miles. . . When it repeated the same scenario only in a much more dramatic loss of power shudder and real rough idle. Wrench light came on. I took a picture of the display panels. Didn't notice the loss of power steering that time and the engine did not die. Called the dealership. . . No tow truck available. Took my chances again and drove it to the dealership since it was only a few miles further then going home. Didn't have any problem during that drive but detected an engine whine sound that I had never noticed before. Vehicle has 53,393 miles on it. Engine was pulled at 8k for oil leaks. Have had numerous incidents of shifting clunking sound at take off over the life of it. Have had brakes fail in reverse. Always pump them before backing out of my garage to make sure they're working ok that day. All work, right down to tire rotations have been done only at the dealership I purchased this brand new at. Luckily I purchased an extended warranty. Guess I'll learn tomorrow what's up with it this time. Sad to have a $28,000 vehicle that I've never really trusted since its early failure. Just thankful I wasn't still on the interstate moving along in 70+ mph rush hour traffic. I will never trust this vehicle again after experiencing this.

7 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2013

Was driving on the freeway and car started to jerk and I started to lose speed even though I was stepping on the gas nothing was happening. I was able to pull over safely to shoulder and put the car into park while the car was shaking violently and turn it off, waited a few minutes and with hesitation it started back up and I was able to continue home. . Happened a second time the very next day only doing 25 and a wrench indicater light came on and again no gas or speed from the pedal was able to shut it off restart and continue home. . Very scary and dangerous situation it needs to be addressed. .

8 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

Complete loss of acceleration, but never stalled. The vehicle began shaking. We turned it off and restarted and it drove fine.

9 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2013

Last Friday, August 23, my car started to shake and jerk and the engine light came on. It slowed to limp mode. I turned it off, restarted it and it did again. I had the car towed to my mechanic because it's not under warranty anymore. They said the that I had a blown water pump and thermostat, and replaced both. I got the car back from my mechanic and after only driving a few miles, the car started to jerk and the wrench light came on. It's been back to my mechanic 3 times now but the problem is not coming up on the computer because the wrench light doesn't stay on. This latest incident, the wrench and the engine light came on, but the wrench light went out while the engine light has stayed on. I am now taking it to a mechanic to have repaired because I cannot afford the prices at the Ford dealership. When the car was 2 years old, I had experienced the same problem. I had to have the throttle body replaced. It was under warranty but still this is dangerous! not to mention frustrating. The car only had 24,000 miles on it. At that time, I stalled in rush hour traffic when it happened. I'm confident that this is the throttle body again, as the local dealership has seen a lot of these this summer in my year of Escape. I understand that Ford is aware of this and has an updated throttle body in production that will not be available until October 27 this year. I want Ford to recall these vehicles. This is very dangerous and expensive!!.

10 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2013

Was driving on the expressway at 70-75 mph. Suddenly lost power and car started to vibrate. Was able to pull over without incident but could have been a bad accident as I was in the passing lane. Once I pulled over I notice the wrench light was on which indicates a powertrain problem. The dealer states that it's the electronic throttle body. This vehicle had a similar problem about a year ago. The throttle control module had to be replaced. Fortunately at that time the car was still under warranty. With this incident the car is over warranty by 300 miles.

11 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2013

I was traveling at apx 45 mph when the yellow wrench error message appeared on the dash. At the same time the vehicle ceased to respond to the gas pedal. The engine and electrical system remained on however there was no power coming from the engine. The vehicle coasted as it lost momentum. I was able to pull off the major road that I was on. The vehicle shuddered as I came to a stop and turned it off. When I restarted the vehicle, the yellow wrench error light went out and the vehicle started with no problems. The Ford dealership later diagnosed the problem as the throttle body component. There had been no previous indicators of any problems. Vehicle had been serviced following the manufacturers service requirements.

12 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

My vehicle has been running great until the last week. Three times in the span of an hour drive from one location to my house my vehicle has begun to shake and then quit running. Two of the three times we were driving 65mph on a busy freeway and were unable to control the vehicle, having to allow the car to idle to a stop on the shoulder. Thankfully we were able to do so safely. We drove the vehicle to our dealership for inspection today and the car shook, as if ready to shut down again, the entire trip. I received a call saying the electronic throttle body needs to be replaced. I have since seen several similar safety complaints regarding the same engine part and have requested the original part be returned to me. My vehicle is only three years old and in good condition, and it is entirely unsafe for a car to unexpectedly quit running, period.

13 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2013

I was driving about 55 mph when the wrench dashboard indicator light comes on. At the same time my gas pedal ceases to work and car speed decreases. I have to coast onto the shoulder of the road. Thankfully brakes work. Car is still running. I turn car off and wait a minute. Turn back on. It starts. Light is gone and car feels shuddery but continues running.

14 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2013

I was driving at 50mph and next thing I know is my whole car was shaking it was a 2010 Ford Escape and I checked the dash and the orange wrench light is on. I tried to step on the gas pedal so I can find a place to pull over but I don't have any power on my gas pedal it just wont accelerate.

15 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2013

July 2, 2013, I just pulled out of my garage, came to a stop sign, made a complete stop, proceeded to go forward, had my foot on the accelerator, rmp gauge started going up and down, the wrench light came on, the vehicle started to slow down even though I had my foot on the accelerator, I pulled to the side of the road, the vehicle just stopped and then started to shake, I turned off the vehicle. I waited a few minutes then I started the vehicle again and everything was fine. I went to the Ford dealership because the vehicle is still under warranty, they first told me that the computer chip needed to be updated. August 2, 2013, I was driving for about 30 minutes going at 55 mph, the rmp gauge started going up and down, the wrench light came on and I could feel the vehicle lose power even though my foot was on the accelerator, the vehicle went from 55 mph to 20mph within a minute, I pulled over to the side of the road as the vehicle started to shake, turned off the vehicle and waited a few minutes, restarted the vehicle and everything was fine. Call the Ford dealership and dropped my vehicle off for inspection again, they called me and told me that it was the throttle body valve that sticks and that Ford is aware of the problem. The Ford dealership is unable to get the part because its on back order, I have to wait 2 to 3 months for this part. August 9, 2013, I was at a stop sign, I proceeded to go forward while pressing on the accelerator, the vehicle lost power, the wrench light came on and I again was unable to accelerate, I pulled to the side of the road, turned off the vehicle, waited a few minutes and it started again.

16 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

Driving my 2010 Ford Escape XLT on sr 58 the vehicle began to shake, could not accelerate and the car immediately slowed down to about 3-5mph. I coasted to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off. This was a very scary situation. Other vehicles were driving past & beeping, not knowing what was happening. The could have created a dangerous situation. Luckily I focused, went to the side of the road to prevent any accidents. After about 30 minutes, started the vehicle and slowly drove approximately one mile down the road the a Ford dealership. Again while driving, the vehicle started to shake and I could not accelerate. The Ford service dept performed a diagnostic test. The result was a failed throttle body. The service technican said the vehicle was unsafe to drive. And said the Ford parts to fix the vehicle are on a national backorder for 2-3 weeks. Unfortunately, I have to rent a vehicle, very expensive. Ford did not offer a loaner vehicle. Ford needs to have a recall on this part and correct their mistake before mulitple fatalities occur. All Ford Escape owners will soon fall victim to this hazard.

17 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2012

I took my 2010 Ford Escape 4 cylinder automatic transmission 2wd vehicle in due to the NHTSA recall notice for the transmission. Even before I got the recall notice I noticed that 1 time out of 10 when I engaged my car from park to drive that the car would shake violently ( like, someone just hit my car with their car ). In addition, often, I would notice that the vehicle would not switch gears in a clean and proper fashion. So, when I got the recall notice, I thought this will be fixed. After getting the car back from the Ford dealership and them saying nothing was wrong with the vehicle and the my car was not effected by the recall, I still had these same issues all the while. Well, on may 8, I was driving home and the "wrench" light (powertrain fault indicated/detected ! ) came on the display/instrument panel. In addition, I noticed that the transmission was also not running that well. I took it into the dealership and dropped it off right away that night. It has been 5 days and the work is still not done. My service advisor tells me that it is the valve body that needs to be replaced. He said perhaps on Wednesday it will be done.

18 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the gears would shift hard and long. The failure occurred intermittently. When the gear was shifted into reverse and then back to drive, the vehicle would shake violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who rebuilt the transmission. After the rebuilding of the transmission, the gear continued to shift hard and long. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer on numerous occasions and while performing a diagnostic test, they advised that there were no failure codes generated and they could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle continued to exhibit problems with the gears shifting correctly. The vehicle was not repaired a second time. The manufacturer was notified who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 23,000 and the current mileage was 57,000.
