When driving the vehicle the vehicle will just shut off. Driving down the street at 55 the vehicle just shuts off almost causing a real bad accident. I have had this car for roughly a year and a couple months and the vehicle has stalled at least a minimum of 50 times. I have taken the car into a shop to get diagnosed and no-one can figure out the issue. My 17 year drives this vehicle and if this is unsafe to drive. I seen the numerous complaints about this same issue on my Ford Escape 2013. This vehicle has never stalled just sitting still always stalled while moving forward between the speeds of 20-65.
While in motion on the freeway in a busy metro area, traveling at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled with an instant loss of power and flashed a code that said there was an engine malfunction and service now. I was able to coast to the side of the freeway without incident, however, this could have been disasterous at those speeds on a metro freeway. I was able to restart the vehicle with the push button start and although it started sluggish, it resumed driving with no codes as if nothing had happened. Until an hour later, when the same repeat incident occurred. The car was functioning completely normal without any warning indicator that there was an issue. . . . Until the vehicle instantly shut down at a high speed. This is absoluetly hazardous and the dealership said there is no open recall for this issue, despite the multiple online reports of other consumers experiencing the identical issue. The cause of this issue is unknown as all levels on the dashboard indicated the vehicle was in good operating condition until it shut down for no apparent reason. I repeat. . . . . . It was a sudden loss of power in freeway traffic at high speeds. Vehicle code readers display no code when I have had them read. This vehicle was purchased used from a dealership and was inspected less than 3 months ago.
Car turns off while driving. Mechanic finally pulled up forced engine shutdown and had no idea what it meant, so I took it to Ford. They cant duplicate the issue they dont know how to fix it. I have no lights on. I am literally afraid for my life. Ford still has my car hoping to duplicate the issue. Ford headquarters are barely helpful. Provided me with a case number and that's all. No indication the car would turn off. Happened 3 times in 2 week span. In and out of the shop I am too scared to take it out this time. Last time I was on the highway with my children. It starts back up again when I press the start engine button but I have to react quick enough in order to dave my life. Not safe!.
The engine shuts down while driving on city street. It happens at least twice when it happens and within 5 minutes of having started the vehicle. It happens randomly.
The past month the car has stalled out while driving. Sometimes 15 to 30 seconds after starting, in stationary position other times while in traffic. My daughter was almost in an accident, when the vehicle shut off while turning in a busy intersection on a city street. It has also happened while on the highway.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. While depressing the accelerator pedal at various speeds, the rpms would rapidly increase and the vehicle would shut off without warning. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the failure could be related to the throttle body. The contact was given a cost estimate for the repair and was advised to have the vehicle diagnosed at a local Ford dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 126,000.
This has been an issue over the past three months. The latest was yesterday (24 September 2019). The issue occurs once the vehicle has been started, the engine/transmission seems to stutter and will shut down. Shutting the engine off, will re-start and it has the same issue. Sometimes, it occurs after I have driven 100 feet (or less) and I have to pull over, shut the car down, or it shuts down, and then restart. This might happen 2-3 times before the vehicle seems to drive okay. This condition seems to be getting worse. Sometimes, I have to turn the ac off prior to restarting the car.
I just purchase this vehicle about a month ago. Recently, the car would just stop out of no where. When engine light would go off and on. When I notice it on one time, I went to auto zone it said it was a coolant bypass which means my car is getting too hot however I known when I start up the car in the morning, it would get hot fast which is not normal. The car would be still and it would or im driving it would just shut off. . .
I've had a 2013 Ford Escape in for service for the same mechanical issue more than a half-dozen times. The vehicle would stall and engine shut down unexpectedly while driving on the highway, often on major highways at speeds at or over 40mph; this has happened nationwide and has been reported in over a thousand complaints. This is a dangerous, hazardous defect. I have been forced to pay for the repairs for this ongoing consistent dangerous defect. I have repair records documenting all of the problems and ongoing failure to correct this same issue. My vehicle should have been part of the recall for stalling issues. This is a safety defect and Ford should be held responsible. View the posted link NHTSA has probed the problem. Chapman Ford in northeast philadelphia knowingly sold this vehicle aware of the problem. The dealership will not acknowledge it. Ford corporation denies recall for my vehicle. I lodged a complaint with the ftc and with the pennsylvania consumer protection agency. Ford will wait to be liable when somebody gets hurt or killed on a highway when the 2013 Ford Escape stalls out loses power. I have reported this to Ford, they deny this safety issue. Beware of the 2013 Ford Escape. . Read more...
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle shut off while idling at a stop sign. The vehicle restarted after the second attempt. The vehicle shut off again in stop and go traffic on the highway. The vehicle sputtered and finally restarted. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 99,500.
Engine shuts down in traffic due to engine coolant warning, car has history of this repair starting in 2012, 2014 and 2015 recall repair, September of 2018, I paid $1250 to have coolant sensor repaired only to have engine shut down 2 months later for same problem, this is a serious safety issue since engine literally starts shutting down in traffic so quickly it is impossible to safely pull over. Contacted Ford and they confirmed history of repairs and even had record of repairs but denied responsibility even though it is same 5 repairs and same part.
I have driven this 2013 Escape for 2. 5 years. We have 34,838 miles on it. In the past year the following issues have arisen. 1) heat sensor has gone bad, warning lights and bells signaling a serious problem, as the car shuts down. Car will not start. Replaced twice in 8 months. 2) left passenger door will not close - latch issue as stated in NHTSA recall 16v643. 3) in the past two weeks, the car will stall without any warning. Not overheating. Computer diagnostics show no problem. This has happened while driving on the highway, residential driving with frequent stop signs, pulling onto the highway, in parking lots, a short trip usually does not produce the problem, however, if we are running errands and make more than one (1) stop, we will definately experience the stall during the drive home. Car will coast to a stop, no indication from gauges of any engine issues. Car hesitantly restarts. We proceed with extreme caution, as we do not know when it will stall again, and in what traffic situation. It is at the dealer to have 3 recalls addressed, and they will 'determine' if they can identify the reason for the stall. I have taken the car to another mechanic, who did not get to drive the car until a few hours after I dropped it off. Of course, diagnostic testing produced no results and the mechanic drove the car once, for ten minutes - stall did not occur. Noted that this issue has been record with NHTSA 40 times, and a recall has not been issued. This is a safety hazard. In response to question below, "when did this happen?", I am provided the most recent date: 08/19/2018. (it happens daily). I contact the dealer last week and was told to bring it in 08/20.
Experiencing the same exact issues as NHTSA campaign number: 15v813000. Ford keeps looking into this problem but say nothing is wrong with the car. Car stalled several times in live traffic and almost caused a crash. Engine shuts off unexpectedly when driving. The map sensor finally threw a code p0106 and after replacement it ran fine for a day and stalled again which points to the harness. The incidents where it almost caused a crash where when I was on i75 and the car in front of me slowed down, I pressed the breaks and my car lost complete engine power which was very scary.
The vehicle continuously sputters, and then dies while in driving mode - normally pulling out into traffic. We have been almost hit numerous times. In an hour time span, yesterday, it happened 10 times, today in a 15 minute timespan, 3 times. Am an uber driver and cannot put their lives in jeopardy - going to get someone killed. This happens in all situations - whether idling in line to pull out into traffic at a light, or while driving. Has even happened while traveling down the highway. It starts to sputter, and then just shuts off. Sometimes you can place in neutral and restart, but other times, you must coast to side of street, place in park, and then try to restart. There are 100s of incidences on the internet showing the same symptoms. Please help resolve this. Going to the Ford dealership is not the answer - they tell me they cannot "duplicate" the issue and therefor do not know how to "fix" it. In the meantime, this is extremely unsafe, and a lawsuit waiting to happen. This has been occurring the entire month of December - on the 18th - 10 times in a 3 hour timespan - today, the 19th - 3 times in a 15 minute timespan. This is an everyday issue and getting work. This is preventing using this vehicle as an uber driver, and seriously impacting our income. There needs to be a recall. There is a tech service bulletin - TSB-13-12-12; NHTSA-10054363; dtc po106, po236.
Driving down road on cold snowy day. Coolant arrow went from c to h in less than 5 seconds and engine shut down into safety mode meaning it would not travel over 5 mph. Limped to side of road. Felt engine - cold to the touch. Plenty of coolant in engine and reservoir. Car sat for five minutes. Started car again. Coolant arrow again went from c to h in less than 5 minutes. Car in safety mode again. Towed car to dealer. They could see the code number and "something" happened to the engine. They reset the code and car went out of safety mode. Dealership cannot provide an answer, only it "must be an electrical problem". Searching the web, it appears this model and year Ford has been having the same problem (as described) for several years. Vehicle was in motion when everything went bad. Luckily we were not on the highway and was able to pull to the side of the road. I was given little notice of the safety mode. I wish had I had the code number the dealership said they reset. Thank you.
I had gotten into my vehicle and after turning it on I managed to make it to my neighbors house. My vehicle for the second time started to over heat and the engine light came on and the vehicle was stating that I need to refill the coolant. I just parked it and the next day we had filled the coolant again taken it to get the error codes checked and were informed we need to get a new thermostat. When taking it to the mechanics they had tried everything from checking codes to driving my vehicle and they were unable to get the issue taken care of due to not being able to re-create the codes. They had informed me that this is a known issue with Ford, however when contacting Ford they have no idea what I am talking about. I checked online and see there is a recall for this, but my VIN even though having the qualifying manufacturing date is not eligible. I have had my vehicle for 1 1/2 years and have had it shut down on me, not have any power, start to put and stall, refilling coolant every so often, over heat, and I can never get a straight answer from the dealership. I have called for information in regards to recalls and these issues and am transferred to a person who is not there so I can leave a voice mail. I have never had a call returned. I just want to know what I have to do to understand what is going on with my vehicle. Why is my VIN not eligible as well?.
Car has been giving us an error message "engine fault service now" since we bought the vehicle. Ford has been unable to repair for the life of the vehicle. The car has no started to shut off in traffic. The incident on 12/27 I was slowing down in heavy traffic and the vehicle shut off. Cars where able to avoid us and we were able get the car restarted but it is becoming a hazard to not only us but everyone on the road. Two weeks prior the car shut off while we were at a red light. Ford has been unable to fix and unwilling to work with us on this issue. I have seen comments on line that other people have faced similar problems with the 2013 Escape. We just want the safe working car that we thought we paid for. We have tried everything and been very patient but now it is a safety hazard.
When I brake to slow down the car for a red-light stop the engine shut down before the car was completely stopped. This happened 3 times in the 4/20 week. Ford service couldn't find what's wrong because they couldn't "reproduce" the problem. Another safety issue is the passenger airbag. The airbag-off warning sign always lit up randomly when my son sits in that seat. My son is slightly over 100 lbs. Ford people said he has to sit straight up, which I think is ridiculous and outrageous.
Driving in parking lot fan speed accelerated and then engine shut off. I tried starting again 3 times and the same thing happened. I called aaa and had the car towed to Hyundai dealership in reno where we purchased the car. There was a smell of burning in the engine. The dealer reported the smoke was coming from under the hood of the air compressor clutch coil is internal short cause burning smoke. They recommended replacing the air compressor. Ford said my car is not included in their recall list.
Driving approx. 15/20 mph on a side street. Went to backup and turn around and the engine just shut down. I was able to restart with no issues. I'm glad I wasn't on the highway when this happened. On 08/02/13, went to my driveway to start the car. I got a "engine fault service now" error. Vehicle was jumping and seemed like it was struggling to go past 25/30 mph. Seemed as though you were driving with the parking brake on along with the jumping of the vehicle. I parked it back in the driveway and had to drive my daughters reliable 05 Honda to work. Called Ford to tow my vehicle in for service. Purchased in Nov/2012. Has approx. 13000 miles.
