We have been having issues with our 2017 Escape titanium with the 1. 5l turbo engine since we bought it. Under hard acceleration, such as while passing, or entering a freeway, the car shudders, has no power, and the check engine light blinks. We brought it in to the dealership twice for this but they were not able to duplicate the problem, and couldn't bring up a code for the problem. Our car has been burning oil and one time the high engine temp warning came on and we were low on coolant. We have kept up on all routine maintenance for the vehicle throughout our ownership of it. It gets driven a lot and has 78000 miles on it. Recently our check engine light came on and our engine would shudder at idle. We took it to the dealership only to have them tell us that the head gasket was going, they couldn't remove one of the spark plugs, and we need a new engine. Of course, now that it's out of warranty, a mechanic tells us what is wrong with our vehicle. We suspect that this has been the problem with our vehicle all along. A defective Ford engine that many owners are having issues with. Based on what others have said on this forum we are expecting to get zero resolution from Ford even though, with the number of complaints about this engine, they are sure to know there is a problem with it.

With 10 months of ownership and approximately 13,000 miles the head gasket blew at the number 1 cylinder causing coolant to burn in the engine and oil to be released into the intake and exhaust systems. Additionally, there is a body rattle on the right side of the vehicle somewhere near the rear passenger door. Repair shop is unable to locate the source of the noise.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact took the vehicle to dahl Ford (821 3rd st, la crosse, WI 54601) for repairs on the turbo. After the vehicle was retrieved, the contact noticed an odor of burning oil inside the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that the odor would eventually go away after a couple of oil changes. The contact also stated that the odor inside the cabin was getting worse and the torque converter bolts were loose. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: cas-25206696. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 122,000.

I had my oil changed on 10-03-15. On 10-17-15, my engine light came on and my car stalled and jerked when I was stopped at a light and when it was in park with the engine running. I called Ford and was told it would cost $110 just to see what was wrong and that would not go toward repairs. I took it to a mechanic who did a system check and said it was the camshaft timer. It was replaced but that did not resolve the issue. I took it to another repair shop where I was told I had to have the vvt solenoid timer and the ignition coil replaced. He said the engine oil burned these items. I only have my oil changed by Ford. I had just reached 60,130 miles on my vehicle, so there was no warranty. I think this was an expense that could have been avoided, especially if it was an oil issue.

I am filing a complaint that after my recall service for the risk of localized overheating of the engine cylinder head that may lead to oil leak fires my 2013 Ford Escape started overheating. The engine heat went from regular heat to maxed out heat in the red in a matter of seconds with no warning or time to pull over safely!!!!! I purchased my Ford Escape 2013 sel in April of 2013 and use my car often for work so have put on 23,000 miles so far. I got a letter of a recall and called to schedule my recall ASAP only able to get an appointment 2 months out. I got my 3 recalls of only one I was notified of performed June 16th 2014 and picked up my car June 20th from san leandro Ford thinking and hoping I would now be driving a safe vehicle. Shortly thereafter I realized my right head-light wasn't working so took it back to find out the technician forgot to plug my headlight in. Two weeks later I took a trip over 300 miles away and had no troubles after multiple mtn passes until our final climb when my 2013 Escape jumped from regular engine heat to overheating and maxed out in the red in a matter of seconds. We pulled over let it cool and tried again, overheated again and had an oil burning smell with fear of engine catching fire!! immediately made an appointment at bishop Ford. Car is currently at Ford dealership 6 hours from my home with no reason as to why it is still overheating! Ford tech (corporate location) was non-responsive to local tech and car is unsafe to drive! warning recall does not work!.
I have one question. Why are 06 Ford Escapes still on the road? what bugs me more is the fact Ford and everyone is turning their heads to the issue. Not only have I read hundreds of complaints of engine failure, I have not seen one person say Ford made any effort to fix the problem instead I only see continuous problem dating up to now involving this same issue. My grandfather who purchased this vehicle new in 06 is now on disability and now without a car after only 52,000 miles. The cause. Engine failure like the rest. No warning, no nothing. Instead a $6,000 quote for a new engine. A month before that we realized the vehicle was burning oil faster then normal but when checked there was no leak. Following that the engine blew one morning after being started and hearing a loud banging. The vehicle was turned off and would not turn back on. After having it checked they said the engine was fired and oil started leaking into the engine. Lucky we were parked but unlike most complaints iv read people were driving or on the highway when the same thing occurred. I dont think I have to tell you have extremely dangerous that is and could be. Its a problem to many Ford owners are experiencing and no one has taking action. That vehicle is a death waiting to happen. How many more people need to loss money or possible their life for someone to stop this?.
Oil leak found at routine oil change. Oil leak was with turbocharger. Turbocharger was replaced. Engine shuts down due to low oil. This car is extremely dangerous to drive in high traffic areas due to unknown shutdowns. Car exhaust is a blue cloud. Car exhaust pipes drip oil. The car sticks of oil. The windows need constant cleaning for oil residue. Ford says oil consumption test passes. Ford refuses to test the engine oil level after 3000 miles and adding one quart of oil. Ford is making every effort to get this vehicle out of the warranty period by refusing to admit their failure to accurately perform an oil consumption test with documentation. Ford refuses to perform another oil consumption test. This car is a lemon. I4 engine is a gutless gas-guzzler.
We took our 2007 Ford Escape (aprox 60,000 miles) on a road trip from omaha ne to st. Louis mo on 3/10/13 and arrived with no issues. On our return trip we drove about 100 miles until the car stopped on the interstate. The vehicle completely shut down and all of the warning lights came on at the same time. We were able to coast to the shoulder safely but were unable to restart the vehicle. We had aaa tow the vehicle about 30 miles to the closest town and aaa approved mechanic. When the mechanic looked at the vehicle they determined that the vehicle had burned through all of the oil and was completely empty causing the engine to seize up. There were no warning lights indicating low oil up until this point. I had recently had my oil changed about 8 week and less than 1000 miles prior to this incident and there were no leaks so it seems very improbably that the vehicle would have used 4 qts of oil in that time. I contacted Ford and the vehicle is just out of the warranty period and they are unwilling to assist. In my research it appears that this may be a common occurrence on this vehicle at about 60-70k miles and may warrant additional research. I am currently attempting to get my vehicle transported the 350 miles home to get a second opinion and repaired. The current estimates I received for repair are between $3,500-6,000. . Read more...
