1 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/07/2021

On the date of 04/07/21 I was driving on my way to work, had pulled out of dunkin donuts and went up a small hill to a stop sign I had the ac on, and my window rolled down as I just left a fast food restaurant and as I get to the top of the small hill, my ac turns off and my car displays a message saying transmission not in park and it completely shuts off, I put the car in park and tried restarting it and nothing I had dash lights everything but didn't start. This is the second time this has happened in a 2 week period, the first time it shut off and displayed a starting system fail message took it to dealer and cannot figure out the problem. Could this be related to a recall!.

2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/30/2021

When driving the vehicle the vehicle will just shut off. Driving down the street at 55 the vehicle just shuts off almost causing a real bad accident. I have had this car for roughly a year and a couple months and the vehicle has stalled at least a minimum of 50 times. I have taken the car into a shop to get diagnosed and no-one can figure out the issue. My 17 year drives this vehicle and if this is unsafe to drive. I seen the numerous complaints about this same issue on my Ford Escape 2013. This vehicle has never stalled just sitting still always stalled while moving forward between the speeds of 20-65.

3 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/18/2021

While in motion on the freeway in a busy metro area, traveling at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled with an instant loss of power and flashed a code that said there was an engine malfunction and service now. I was able to coast to the side of the freeway without incident, however, this could have been disasterous at those speeds on a metro freeway. I was able to restart the vehicle with the push button start and although it started sluggish, it resumed driving with no codes as if nothing had happened. Until an hour later, when the same repeat incident occurred. The car was functioning completely normal without any warning indicator that there was an issue. . . . Until the vehicle instantly shut down at a high speed. This is absoluetly hazardous and the dealership said there is no open recall for this issue, despite the multiple online reports of other consumers experiencing the identical issue. The cause of this issue is unknown as all levels on the dashboard indicated the vehicle was in good operating condition until it shut down for no apparent reason. I repeat. . . . . . It was a sudden loss of power in freeway traffic at high speeds. Vehicle code readers display no code when I have had them read. This vehicle was purchased used from a dealership and was inspected less than 3 months ago.

4 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/20/2020

I own a 2014 Ford Escape it has 101,000 miles on it. The car has been well maintained with all the normal maintenance done at mileage recommended. I was on the interstate in traffic when all the sudden the vehicle just shut off, which left me in the middle of the interstate due to the bumper to bumper traffic. I had the vehicle towed to shop and come to find out the transmission went completely out. Called the Ford dealership and of course the warranty had just expired on it and was told that they weren't aware of this problem with these vehicles and there was nothing they could do about this problem. T this point it was going to cost me over 5k to have everything fixed. Come to find out Ford knew about this problem with this particular year make and model of this vehicle and are pretty much a joke. This problem should be a recall giving the fact I still owed money for this vehicle.

No indication the car would turn off. Happened 3 times in 2 week span. In and out of the shop I am too scared to take it out this time. Last time I was on the highway with my children. Other drivers will honk at you to go when you cannot continue to drive until you get the vehicle back running after doing what the message states.

20 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/30/2019

While driving in a variety of circumstances, (in town at stoplight and accelerating on highway) my 2010 Ford Escape will just shut off. No warning, just dies. I have been to 4 mechanics including one at a Ford dealer just today. No codes show, so every time I am basically told that they "can't duplicate issue" and I am sent on my way with no remedy for what is a very dangerous malfunction. I just called Ford and started a case number to see what they will do. Judging from other comments I have read on internet, I am not hopeful. I cannot understand why a recall wasn't issued and how I am just learning about the scope of the problem now-after spending $20k on this vehicle.

21 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/24/2019

This has been an issue over the past three months. The latest was yesterday (24 September 2019). The issue occurs once the vehicle has been started, the engine/transmission seems to stutter and will shut down. Shutting the engine off, will re-start and it has the same issue. Sometimes, it occurs after I have driven 100 feet (or less) and I have to pull over, shut the car down, or it shuts down, and then restart. This might happen 2-3 times before the vehicle seems to drive okay. This condition seems to be getting worse. Sometimes, I have to turn the ac off prior to restarting the car.

22 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/09/2019

The vehicle was stationary and had not been driven for more than 3 hours. I pushed the remote start and the car started, but it shut off almost immediately. The shut down was due to overheating. The engine was cool and the coolant was tepid at best. This is not an overheating issue. The car will not run on more than 2 cylinders. This is the second time this has happened since the recall for the coolant sensor. The car had to be towed to the dealer where I was charged to diagnose the issue. This should be no charge since it was recalled for the overheating issue. This overheating has caused my transmission and torque converter to fail as well. The cost of the transmission should be reimbursed by Ford since they have know about the overheating issue for a long time now.

23 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/03/2019

Engine shut off while driving. Car also has been having a starting issue. The instrument cluster would come on, fuel pump would prime, go to start and nothing. If the battery was unplugged for 5 minutes it was more likely to start. Thankfully it happen on a city street and not the highway that I was going to be getting on.

24 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/31/2019

My vehicle is experiencing a throttle body failure. Per the Ford dealer it is only covered under the extended warranty if it does it during a test drive by a dealer. The vehicle is patently unsafe. It shuts down in all driving situations, highway speeds, surface road speeds, while moving. I have almost been in multiple accidents due to this issue. The local dealer - fowler Ford - is not following Ford's directive and is charging me for a diagnostic when Ford says not to. The 2010 Ford Escape is a death trap. I am now stuck with a vehicle that has had multiple recalls for less serious issues, but the one issue that can get someone killed does not qualify for a recall? this makes no sense, I am afraid to drive the vehicle, but have no choice. Why was Ford allowed to get away with an extended warranty on a part that fails randomly, while the vehicle is moving in traffic. It seems that Ford was given a pass on an issue that will get someone killed.

25 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2006 Ford Escape

26 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/27/2019

The vehicle flex fuel system is horrible and the vehicle shuts off for no apparent reason. We have have had the vehicle inspected and reviewed by mechanics, who come back with one issue, the flex fuel set up. So we ordered and replaced the flex fuel pipe 2 times now. The engine light still continues to pop back on after a couple of days go by. The car shutting off while driving is a safety issue. This vehicle was purchased for my 16 year old daughter from a dealership less than a year ago. I am scared to death she will crash when the vehicle shuts off on the interstate. The 2011 recall Ford issued covered the same type of issue, which in my opinion should be expanded. My daughter just called and stated that the car shut off 5 times in the course of a mile. Luckily, she was local.

27 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2017 Ford Escape

29 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2019 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/03/2019

Vehicle shuts off while driving. Steps to reproduce issue: keyfob is inside vehicle in drivers coat pocket, mobile phone is intermittently connected to vehicle via usb cord, vehicle is on, engine running, start/stop is on, vehicle is driving then stops at a stoplight, start/stop engages and idles engine for at least 15 seconds. When foot brake is released vehicle shuts off, instrument cluster, radio, infotainment, etc turn off. To restart vehicle transmission must be placed in neutral or park and vehicle on/off button pressed. Vehicle restarts, powertrain malfunction error displays and infotainment system appears to be rebooting and displays welcome message such as before it was set up. Vehicle was immediately brought to dealer; blackwell Ford in Plymouth mi both times. Dealer could not reproduce issue or pull detailed information beyond general fault. Dealer performed 1265od eec system diagnosis quick test, 1265od45 engine module diagnostic pin point test, 12650dx1 eec system diagnosis quick test twice, road tested, ids test p164c, ppt aa in pced manual, reset kam and retest pass, and upon request checked that pcm firmware was the latest version. Dealer requested permission for extended mileage testing with skytracker installed after 2nd fault, permission was given. Issue occurs approximately every 30 days driving 2 trips/day. Issue presents a high and severe risk of fatal incident because vehicle is stopped at a green light and may be rear ended by an approaching vehicle at high speed. Because vehicle is off, airbags and other safety equipment may not activate increasing risk of fatal incident. Vehicle was bought new with 10 miles recorded on odometer in February of 2019, as of April 2019 the issue has occurred twice. Once on February 22nd and once on April 3rd.

30 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2017 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/15/2019

While stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, the automatic start stop feature shut off the engine, however, when the brake was released the engine did not restart. A message flashed giving directions to put the vehicle in park and restart the engine manually. That worked but a few days later the engine shut off while cruising on a city street and displayed the same message. After putting the vehicle in park and restarting, the start/stop feature did not work at all. Turning the car off and restarting it did not reset the automatic feature. The on off switch did not restart the feature and the system information display stated that all systems were functioning normally. It took a visit to a Ford dealership who ran a diagnostic to then reset the system. The dealership did not offer any information on why this happened or if it could happen again. Doing a bit of research, I found TSB #ssm 47043 addressing this issue.

32 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/09/2019

I've had a 2013 Ford Escape in for service for the same mechanical issue more than a half-dozen times. The vehicle would stall and engine shut down unexpectedly while driving on the highway, often on major highways at speeds at or over 40mph; this has happened nationwide and has been reported in over a thousand complaints. This is a dangerous, hazardous defect. I have been forced to pay for the repairs for this ongoing consistent dangerous defect. I have repair records documenting all of the problems and ongoing failure to correct this same issue. My vehicle should have been part of the recall for stalling issues. This is a safety defect and Ford should be held responsible. View the posted link NHTSA has probed the problem. Chapman Ford in northeast philadelphia knowingly sold this vehicle aware of the problem. The dealership will not acknowledge it. Ford corporation denies recall for my vehicle. I lodged a complaint with the ftc and with the pennsylvania consumer protection agency. Ford will wait to be liable when somebody gets hurt or killed on a highway when the 2013 Ford Escape stalls out loses power. I have reported this to Ford, they deny this safety issue. 34 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/09/2019

January 9, 2019 at 10:39pm my 2014 Ford Escape caught on fire. Driving down interstate 81, going speed limit 70 mph, vehicle shut off and said "service engine now". Steering and brakes did not lock up but the vehicle lost rpms and was not running as I pulled over to the right hand shoulder, I was in the left hand lane when my vehicle shut off. As I stopped, I put vehicle in park and turned key off, all while it said "service engine now". I turned my hazards on and got out my phone to call someone for help. As I looked up I seen flames coming from the windshield wiper area and smoke in front of my lights, I grabbed my work bag and jumped out of the vehicle, jumped across the guard rail, and immediately called 911 from a safe distance. In approximately 6-9 minutes the entire front end of my vehicle was engulfed in flames as I was on the phone with 911. Took responders about 15 to 20 minutes to arrive and to put out the fire. As soon as responders finally showed, I could hear both tires explode a few minutes apart from each other. Once fire was safely put out, the entire front end of my vehicle was melted and the inside as well was beyond recognizable. I was told my vehicle is totalled, obviously, and I got a tow to take vehicle to my house where the 2014 Ford Escape is sitting in my yard. I figured my insurance company might come look at it but they didn't because all I had was liability on it. I did not know until a couple days later there was in fact a recall on my vehicle, due to risk of engine fire.
