The contact owns a 2003 Ford Escape. The contact took the vehicle to a repair shop because the emissions indicator was illuminated. The repair shop kept the vehicle for two weeks due to the parts that needed to be ordered. When the gasket was installed in the vehicle, the engine became very hot and the corking (used to seal the gasket) melted onto the catalytic converter. The dealer stated that the failure was due to the catalytic converter and would cost $3,700 just to start the vehicle and determine what other malfunctions were occurring. The manufacturer has not been notified. The current mileage was approximately 70,000 and failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

I recently had $2,900 worth of repairs done to my 2002 Ford Escape XLT in July. My vehicle was bucking and almost stalled when I pulled into the nearest service center. The check engine light was on. The mechanic diagnosed the problem as clogged cat converters. The car has three sets of them. This is the effect of the cause which he believed was faulty oxygen sensors as well as bad spark plugs. At the end of sept the car was not running well and I went to another mechanic who said the egr valve was blown and their was broken bolts where the mechanic was replacing the exhaust system. I was furious and proceeded to return to the merrick bellmore service center. He told me if the problem was on his end that he will take care of it and then diagnosed that the cats where clogged again. He didn't properly diagnose the cause of the cats getting clogged the first time. The mechanic has since replaced three sets of cat converters and he has a bill for $1600 and has had my car at his shop for two months now. The shop is "trying" to get Ford to pay for the exhaust parts. After numerous attempts to speak with the owners of this service station to no avail (the clerks tell me 5 different set of names as to who is the owner) all I want is my car back and let this service station "eat" this current bill due to the fact that on the bill that I paid in July the warranty on parts is one year or $12,000 miles. I am frustrated, angry and don't know where to turn.

Catalytic converter cracked along welds at around 84000 miles. Research on open sources on the internet as found at the v-6 equipped Ford Escapes are prone to these failures over and over. There have been some reported cases of vehicles losing power while driving and vehicles completely dyeing while driving.
Without warning vehicle started smoking from underneath. The smoke was coming from vent area inside of vehicle. Also, there was a bad smell.
Gasoline fumes entered the vehicle while driving.
My 2001 Ford Escape XLT stalls frequently and also has an exhaust smell coming from the air vents. I have taken it in over 10 times and they tell me it's fixed when it isn't.
I was driving in afternoon traffic yesterday when my car went from 40 mph to 20 mph. Oil light and emissions light came on, and then the car stalled and rolled to a stop. I turned the engine off, and it restarted after five minutes. I made it home. It was quite scary as I was sitting in traffic. I had heard from someone in a shopping center about this problem with their 2001 model. Upon research on your site today, I am alarmed at the number of occurrences and that this is a serious problem. I will be taking to the dealership today for repair. I am concerned that Ford has not done anything about this after reading how wide-spread this is. I am terrified to drive it now as I have a two year old daughter and am six months pregnant.
While attempting to pass a car on the interstate, engine died. Thick white smoke engulfed the back window from the exhaust. Was momentarily unable to see anything in back on the car. I lost all power steering and power brakes . I was able to make it to the side of the road. The car was towed and when dealer looked at it was "locked up" the engine was replaced.
2 months after I bought my car brand new I went out to start it, it would not start and the emission light came on. The car sounds like it is trying to start, the only way I could get the car to start is hold the ignition. I smelled gas after the car started. I informed Ford about the problem, they found nothing but replaced my starter even though it wasn't the problem. I have had this car almost 3yrs my warranty is ready to expire and Ford still cannot fix/find the problem. This car has left me stranded more then once, I even had it towed to the dealership after working hrs. I was told by their service manager the car started, we found nothing wrong. I even told the dealership this car has been in the shop over 3x's it is a lemon and I want a new car or my money back. I was informed according to Ford we cannot find a problem therefore, the lemon law does not exist and Ford will not just take the car back. I have had this car to 2 Ford dealerships, the sad part the orginal place I bought it from treated my very nasty since I would take my car for service at a closer one and have them look into the problem. Ford is Ford doesn't matter what dealer I use does it? I am very dissatisfied and will never ever buy another Ford again!! someone please help me!!!.
