Recall 23s27 (NHTSA 23v-380). I do not feel that Ford is offering owners a safe or effective repair, leaving serious risk of injury or death. 1. 7/2022. Recall 22s47. “engine oil and/or fuel vapor may leak and accumulate” which “may ignite resulting in an under hood fire, and increasing the risk of injury. ” 2. 8/8/22. Ford media to upi, “in the event of an engine failure” above issues may occur. 3. 5/26/23. Recall 23s27 acknowledges, “engine could fail prematurely,” leading to the above. 4. 5/26/23. Nhtsa part 573 safety recall report: cause identified. “isolated engine manufacturing issues have resulted in 2. 5l hev/phev engine failures involving engine block or oil pan breach. Likely driving “final solution” (paragraph 7). “in the event of an engine block or oil pan breach, the hev/phev system continues to propel the vehicle allowing the customer to continue to drive the vehicle. As the customer continues to drive after a block breach, oil and/or fuel vapor continues to be expelled and accumulates near ignition sources”. 5. 2023. “23s27 chronology rmisc-23v380-7289,” links recall 22s47 with 23s27. Vehicles which had undergone the repair specified by 22s47 still had issues, and Ford engineers confirmed block breach and correct 22s47 repair. “repair” for 22s47 did not fix the underlying mechanical problem. 6. 6/6/23. Autoblog: “per Ford, the “manufacturing issues” include poor machining of the engine crankshaft and contamination of engine block mating surfaces during assembly. ” “2. 5-liter engines . . . With defects “could be ticking time bombs. ” 7. 5/24. “software is now available to repair [affected vehicles]. ” dealers will “update the powertrain control module (pcm). ” this will not fix the problem. I respectfully request NHTSA investigate and compel Ford to provide the correct and proper mechanical repairs necessary to prevent block/oil pan breach in the first place.

My truck got hot and had water and now they tell me that the water is passing to the engine pistons and it only has 72 thousand miles and I have looked on the internet for articles that say they are Ford engine failures.
Ford 2. 0l ecoboost - coolant in cylinders, white exhaust smoke and illuminated mil. Purchased 2018 2. 0 titanium Feb 2018. March 2019, at 29,000 miles the engine failed , coolant in cylinders. Warranty work was performed under TSB 19-2208 by Ford dealership. Greenway Ford orlando. June 2020 ,at 62,000 miles the same repaired engine failed, coolant in cylinders. Engine to be repaired under TSB 19-2346 at the owner's expense of $8388 at the same Ford dealership Ford knows there are design defects in this 2. 0 ecoboost engine. Ford declined twice to warranty the second repair as the vehicle was 2500 miles over the new car warranty. Zero support. Ford would not even warranty the first repair work after failing 14 months later.

Engine failure due to coolant intrusion into the no. 2 cylinder resulted in a complete engine replacement. After taking 5 weeks to repair I picked up the vehicle only to have the transmission fail after driving a couple of hundred miles.
Vehicle was being driven at highway speed with sudden loss of power. Motor would stay running but no power and no warning lights to indicate problem. When taken in to service was told antifreeze leaked into no. 2 cylinder causing engine failure. Ford I was told is aware but did nothing as the vehicle was 2000 mi. Out of warranty. Vehicle was in for recall to fix this problem on January 29th while under warranty and possibly not repaired.
Driving down road. Car said engine failure pulled over poped the hood and engine caught on fire and car burned total loss.

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. While the contact's husband was driving 40 mph, the "engine failure" warning message illuminated on the instrument panel. The driver smelled and observed smoke emitting from the hood. A fire occurred under the hood and the driver was able to locate a fire extinguisher and put out the flames himself. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not able to be driven. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was towed to sonju all american superstore (located at 893 scenic dr, two harbors, mn 55616, (218) 834-2101) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 73,589.
I was driving my car on a very busy highway and then the engine failure light came on and my car went into limp mode and stalled out several times while I was driving, this was very unsafe as I had cars going by me as I was stalling out, this could have caused a crash. I took it to the mechanic and he stated that it is a problem with my wiring harness. There is a TSB out but it says that my car was manufactured two months prior then the dates listed for the TSB. There is also a recall for my year make and model in the correct manufacturing dates but I am being told by a Ford representative that it isn't my car without them even looking at it.
I have been on the highway at least 12 times now, doing the speed limit, which is 80 mph, when the engine suddenly shuts down! I get a warning on my dash saying engine fault service now. This has happened when I've been using cruise control, & when I havent. Many times it has happened when I've just passed a semi I'm the passing lane & the car shuts off! scary as hell! I have to immediately get back into the far right lane, & pull off on the shoulder! the steering & brakes still work, but I have no power! one of these days, someone is going to kill me, because I won't be able to get over soon enough! I bout the car with 12,000 miles on it & the Ford certified preowned warranty on it. The same month I bought the car, it had died on me 2 times on the highway along with other problems. It has now happened at least 12 times, but it's only the 3rd time I'm the shop for this, because it takes forever to get an appt. & the dealership is 100 miles r/t from me. There are other electrical issues going on with the car they've had to fix also. But they've never gotten the car to duplicate what it does to me on the highway & apparently even though I show them pics of my speed & the engine failure notice, they don't have a clue & seem to care less! I've now been without my car & in a rental for a total of 1 month now & my car only has 26,000+ miles on it!!.
The car's engine will cut off, lights and electricity will stay on, but the engine will cut out while driving. Acceleration is lost, and cannot start moving again until the car is put in park, turned off, and turned back on. This is while the car is in motion. This has happened at 30 mph and slower, as well as 55 mph. The car will give an engine fault or engine failure and begin jerking. This happens on the highway and city streets. The most recent time, the car began jerking after turning and could not stay on for longer than 10 seconds before shutting off. This has happened at least 6-10 times, and almost caused car accidents. Multiple parts have been replaced, and the issue still happens.
March of 2018 engine starting ticking, took it in for oil change and asked them to look at it. Got it back the next day, they told me it was the alternator ticking and it was normal. November of 2018 took my car back in for tire, told them about the ticking again and said it wasn't the alternator, something in the engine is ticking and now it idles rough. The put new tires on it did a 60,000 mile engine performance (I only had 50,000 miles on it) February 2019, I was getting on the expressway and it started shaking, the rpm's jumped to 5 and back down to 2 them back up to 5 or 6 and the car would not maintain speed. Took the car to bronde's Ford, they told me I blew the engine. Paid to have the short block replaced, got the car back 2 weeks later, no more ticking. Drove my car for 4 weeks and on my way to work on us223, 55mph, my car started vibrating again and my engine light was flashing. I turned around, took the car back to bronde's again. They had the car for 4 weeks this time. Replaced the short block and head gasket again. Both times it was cylinder 4 in my engine. This time I had my car for 13 days. I was getting on the expressway 23 north and barely got going and the car did a little hesitation. I looked over at the panel and the engine light was flashing again. I pulled off the very next exit and the car was smoking so bad, I thought it was going to catch on fire. Pulled off and called bronde's to send a tow truck. I could smell a sweet smell and know I blew a head gasket again. Bronde's sent a car hauler and loaded it up. He turned the key and it read engine failure failure failure. In 14 1/2 weeks I have had my car in 3x for a blown engine. I am still making payments on this car and it is junk.
I have a 2013 Ford Escape and it stalls in the parking. I drive to the store and park do my shopping I start the car and begin to pull away and it dies or stalls. The car runs great and starts the way it is supposed to but stalls or dies and engine failure light comes on. It has happened several times but started in early Feb of this year.
The vehicle stalled while driving down a rural highway. A sudden jerk was felt and then engine failure appeared on the display. The car began to smoke and within seconds the engine compartment was fully engulfed. It was later learned that this vehicle had a recall related to a defect that has caused several similar cases. This recall notice was never received by us, therefore went unfixed. This vehicle has been worked on by a certified Ford dealership since the recall and the recall went unnoticed there as well.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated and lost power in very cold weather and very hot weather. The vehicle was pulled over to the shoulder for a while, but was able to restart. After the failure, the power steering, power assist, and check engine indicators illuminated. The contact stated that after the vehicle underwent an oil change in November, the engine failed multiple times. The vehicle was driven to webb Ford (9809 indianapolis blvd, highland, in 46322, (219) 924-3400) where it was diagnosed that a computer upgrade was needed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 14,356. The VIN was unknown.

I was driving up the interstate after work and while I was driving I began to notice smoke. I looked around and realized it was my car. I pulled over to the side and my car started flashing everything on the dash panel was red and flashing engine failure. I cut the car off and then went to try and pop the hood, I couldn't get it opened and I looked down and began to see flames. I called 911 and my car engulfed in flames. I had a recall on my car for a problem with the engine cylinder head saying that it could cause an engine fire if oils were to get out and hit a hot surface. I got my recall fixed and then my car caught on fire a few weeks later.
Engine failure light comes on and says to pull over immediately, then car shuts down. This has occured 2x randomly over the past month. The car will not start for 10 minutes after the incident. Have taken to auto shop twice with no apparent issue that can be resolved.
My son was driving my 2014 Ford Escape on the street to I-25 when he thought he smelled smoke, then the engine failure flashed on the screen and the engine turned itself off. He was able to move the vehicle to a safe location then he popped the hood and saw flames so he shut the hood and called the fire department.

The vehicle was towed to the dealer la fontaine Ford in gladwin michigan that determine that the vehicle had experienced an engine failure and needed a new engine. Car will stall at random times with no warning. This can happen while driving or , or just after starting, it is random. It will give a system malfunction/engine failure message but it goes away when the car restarts, which is usually does with no problem. No diagnostic code is logged and the dealer cannot recreate the problem. This happens several times a month now. Symptoms, model, manufacture date & location all match with recall #15v813, but our VIN # does not pull for this recall so dealer will not fix. Dealer will not do anything until they recreate the problem, which they were unable to do. This has been going on for months, but becoming more frequent now. Have called the Ford customer service number and they logged our information, but not sure what that is supposed to do. The questions on this form are for an isolated event, so I am answering them with most recent info, but this has happened many times. Help!.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. While attempting to drive the vehicle, the engine shook violently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. When the driver attempted to drive the vehicle, the temperature warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the heater hose failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,015.
December 3 2016 I was driving down the road on hwy 111 and the engine shut down. I coasted over to the shoulder of the road and put the vehicle in park. The instrument panel displayed engine failure, immediate attention required. Smoke was coming from under the hood. I got out of the vehicle and raised the hood and flames started coming from the engine area and spread very quickly. I called 911 to put the fire out. Cause of fire is unknown. A police report was filled out but I don't have it at this time.
Engine pcm (computer) fails due to a defect, causing total engine failure while driving. This is a known issue which the manufacturer refuses to recall, repair, or warranty. Faulty spark plugs installed at the factory, along with deficient driver transisters in the pcm, lead to a malfunction which stalls the engine. Vehicle was on the highway when it occurred, and experienced a total loss of power.

Hi I have a 2005 Ford Escape & up into about and year I started had having engine failure, my vehicle would start & stop, to sum this up, im affaid to drive when this accures praying that know 1 runs into the back of me. . . Ive tooken it to the auto place to get a reading & ive replaced everything that it read ignition coils (twice), fuel filters, tune a/c compressor, wouldnt come on etc. . . . I can go on & on. . & im still having the same problems & finally ive decided to google these accurances, to find that there's other vic. . That has occurred theses same incidents. . . . This is a serious matter, that Ford needs to address / resolved before someone doesn't make it. Vic. Just shutting down in the middle of traffic. . . . & it also accures while stationary & while turning, this has been going on since oct. Of 2015 & in between replaceing parts it stalled for a while of the killing & now it has started back up full force about a week ago. 6/13/2016 & today is the 6/21/2016.
Engine fails to accelerate from stop. (random) while in pittsburgh traffic, vehicle runs fine, stop at stop light or stop sign waiting for traffic to pass. Try to take off and vehicle starts moving like it should and then suddenly loses acceleration, engine is unresponsive to throttle, rpms go down to just above idle with gas pedal pressed to floor, idle when released. This is a safety issue, can cause a major accident if not conscience of traffic around you and keeping in mind that the car may act up when pulling into traffic. It is in dealership now, Ford technicians are having a hard time finding culprit of problem.
We were travelling in colorado. Suddenly engine started to smoke. We pulled over. Had the car towed to garage. Was complete engine failure.
Came home from a 45 mile trip. Pulled up in front of our home. I put the vehicle into reverse & the engine died. Ford had just reprogrammed this vehicle per a recall only about 1,000 miles before this engine failure. I had noticed since the reprogramming that the engine hesitated at times & sounded/felt like at other times like the engine was going to die. Ford replaced spark plugs 1, 2, & 4 stating that they were intermittently misfiring under load. Since spark plugs were replaced vehicle no longer hesitates but the engine continues to sound/feel like it is going to die at times.

For the first incident, the car's warning light came on and said "engine failure - service immediately. " I attempted to proceed to the dealer for service but, before I made it off of our street, the car began to shake and shudder violently, then died in the middle of the road. I was able to get it to coast to a small parking area. As it would not start again, it required a tow to the dealer. The dealer informed me that it was a sensor issue and ensured that it was repaired and would not happen again. Today (may 10th) a similar issue occurred, though this time it was while I was pulling into traffic. Again, the same warning light came on. I attempted to turn and get the car home but, before I could do this, the car began to shake again and the engine lost power. This required another tow to the dealership for repair; the vehicle is presently in the shop.
While accelerating to pass a slower vehicle the engine started stumbling and went into some type of limp mode and lost power. I had to rapidly pull back into the slower lane to avoid having cars behind me rear-end me. I stopped the car, turned it off , and when I restarted the car the problem was gone. I took the vehicle to a Ford dealer but they stated there was no error codes stored in the ecu so they couldn't diagnose or fix the problem. Then a few months later it happened again just like before- I was passing a slower vehicle and suddenly the car went into a limp mode and I lost power and had to quickly pull back into the slow lane to avoid having cars from behind rear-end me. This time I had my wife use her phone to video the engine failure lights on the dash. Again I had to stop my car, turn it off, and when I restarted the cars it was ok. And again I took it to a different Ford dealer, I showed them the video of the problem occurring, but again they couldn't find an error code so they said they could not fix the problem. My wife is afraid to take this car on trips because she is afraid the problem will happen again and she will be rear-ended. I did some internet research on this issue and there are numerous complaints from other drivers describing the exact same problem. The two Ford dealers we took the car never told us that this is a known problem and there have recalls for the older Escapes for the same issue. Nhtsa can you help before someone gets hurt.
