3 Radiator problem of the 2017 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/07/2021

While driving, my check engine light went on, after I got gas, the car stalled several times before starting the car. While driving home, I got a "high temperature warning, pull over safely" also my heat was blowing cold air. After taking my car in, a tuneup was done as well as routine oil change. I was told radiator coolant was low. After a few day, the same thing happened again, took back to the mechanic and they found that the coolant is leaking but from deep inside the motor and will cost thousands of dollars to repair and I will be better off trying to trade in my car. . This is a known dangerous Ford issue and this car needs to be recalled. My car has been well maintained since I got it 2 years ago.

No leak in radiator he feels the engine burning the coolant and a head gasket needed. I see there is a recall do to coolant leakcausing a fire. I need to know whats my next step to resolve this issue to avoid a dangerous encounter.

Dealer states its a defective radiator. Had that replaced then 4 days later car went into high temp/limp mode again. Waiting to hear what's wrong now with this car. All these issues have happened while driving on highways.

8 Radiator problem of the 2017 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/10/2020

Engine kept losing power and bogging down. Took it to Ford and they said I needed a new engine because radiator coolant was getting into the cylinder heads for quite some time. No check engine lights came on or anything. Vehicle has been in the shop now for 4 days. They said they are waiting on the new engine and my vehicle "should" be fixed by next Friday. *fingers crossed*. This apparently has been a known issue for quite some time, according to some forums, and lawsuits are being put into place because of this serious issue with Ford Escape vehicles, ranging from the year 2013 to 2019. There needs to be a recall on these engines if this is a known issue. People can get hurt from this. . . . . Especially if no check engine light is on.

12 Radiator problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/07/2019

Engine coolant kept leaking. Notices about 'engine coolant low' were not corrected, even after I had 2 heater hoses replaced, as per the service repair report recommended. This was done, first one hose, costing $485, the light still came on about 4 weeks later, and the second hose was replaced costing ~ $475. Even after this, on Saturday September 7th, 2019, the engine began making incredible noises and smoke starting coming out from under the hood. I was able to pull over, out of the line of traffic and my granddaughter and I got out immediately! no coolant, no oil and the radiator(/) cap had bubbly 'stuff' in it. I have copies of paperwork that states, " customer states that the 'low engine coolant 'light comes on, over a period of several months. I cannot believe that the Ford dealership . . . N e v e r. . Mentioned that this might be part of a recall, for this exact problem! I consider this fraud by deception. After being told that a new engine would cost me $7,000, Ford said they would give me 'financial assistance of $1700, toward the engine cost. I am retired, working a part time job! I cannot afford this, especially since I feel that this was such a well-kept secret by the dealer. Obviously, this is the same engine problem that caused nhtsato require a recall on:12v551000 12/03. 2012 and recall #12v431000 09/04/2012. This car should have been one of those recalled!! I'm lucky my granddaughter and I weren't killed on a highway, or injured others while on the road, during this fiasco. Thank you for any help you can give. I appreciate someone looking out for the consumer.

13 Radiator problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/11/2019

Recalls on Ford Escape. I am aware that a lot of the 2013 Ford Escapes have recalls on them. Mine was not included in the recall but I have a leak in my coolant hose that I am having to replace now. I have had a lots of trouble out of the vehicle. I had to replace the radiator a couple of years back and my car for the longest time would just stop in middle of the road after taking off.

14 Radiator problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/26/2018

Sudden leak of radiator fluid and the engine light came on with extreme heat warning. Car alerted to pull over immediately, and on the road it was a risky maneuver. Towed to dealership where was informed it was a bad water pump and hoses. However it is very similar to existing recalls and complaints.

15 Radiator problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/01/2018

There was a leak from the radiator fluid into the engine block that resulted in a blown head gasket. There was no warn light suggesting that the coolant level was low, which may have prevented the problem. There has been a factory recall for this exact situation on the exact same make model and year of my vehicle, but somehow my vehicle was not included. Please see attached recall letter from Ford's site. This is my only car I have saved up to get and repairs of the head gasket would be $3000. However, Ford will not repair it because they said they can not guarantee the repair due to the issue with the leak. They have seen this several times. They will only do a full engine rebuild or replacement for $8000 because they admit that this is a factory defect. The vehicle is currently at the shawnee mission Ford (11501 shawnee mission pkwy. Shawnee, KS 66203) in desperate need of a recall. This happen while driving down interstate 35 from omaha to kansas city.

16 Radiator problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/09/2018

I have a blown head gasket which resulted from a leak from the radiator into the manifold. There was no low fluid light that warned of the leak which would have prevented this defective flaw. This problem exactly fits the recall 17v209000 (see attached) for exactly the make, model, year, engine, etc. Of my vehicle, but for some reason my vehicle was not included. I brought the vehicle to 2 mechanics and they believe 100% that it should include my vehicle and are not sure why its included. Please review and please try to add my vehicle to the recall list.

17 Radiator problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/21/2018

This has happened now (2) separate times a month apart. While driving down the road at 70-75 mph the vehicle will loose power and tell me to pull over. I am not able to restart vehicle and the engine temperature will spike to hot. This all happens in a matter of seconds with little or no time to react and pull vehicle to a safe spot. There has been radiator fluid pouring over the engine on both times this has happened and is now costing me a lot of money to fix. I feel that this is an issue with the Escape in general and not with just mine.

18 Radiator problem of the 2017 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/03/2018

As driving my vehicle the engine light came on and the car ran hot. I pulled over, waiting for it to cool down, tried again and it went to hot again. Pulled into a parking lot where my fiance came and added antifreeze. Added antifreeze that leak out everywhere. I was able to drive it to len stoler Ford in owings mills, MD. The mechanic greg called and informed me I need a new radiator. I bought this car from al packer Ford in February 2017. There is no reason that I should need a new radiator less than two years after the purchase of a new car!!!.

21 Radiator problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/23/2017

Total engine failure at 73269 miles. Vehicle has been recalled multiple times for engine coolant low/engine overheating warnings. Recall work was completed on vehicle; however, still had issues with engine coolant low/engine overheating warnings where the car had to be towed in to a dealer. Prior to the holidays, took car in to local shop for a new battery and air filter. This vehicle is a personal vehicle that isn't driven much. I have a company car. On December 23, 2017, leaving amarillo, texas, entered feeder road to access interstate. Engine coolant low warning came on and then immediately followed by engine overheating warning. Towed to firestone -- they said it was a temperature sensor and they didn't have the part. Towed to gene messer Ford -- they had it for two weeks, and just informed me that the entire engine will need to be replaced -- due to overheating - cylinder head warped -- $6,800 for the repair. This particular engine has been cited for safety concerns because of 29 fires. I contacted Ford prior to this to ask for help and they declined. These engines have had multiple recalls for cylinder head problems and the recall didn't fix the problem, as my vehicle still had "engine coolant low and engine overheating warnings" after the recall was completed. The continuous engine coolant low warning resulted in the vehicle also receiving a new radiator in 2016.

22 Radiator problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/15/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. On several occasions, the engine coolant indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to carriage Ford inc at (812) 284-4444 (908 e lewis and clark pkwy, clarksville, in 47129) where it was diagnosed that the radiator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. On another occasion, the contact noticed coolant had leaked onto the ground. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where the diagnosis was unknown. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred and the coolant engine indicator illuminated. The contact returned to carriage Ford inc, but the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 12v551000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified and stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.

23 Radiator problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/28/2017

If this happened on the interstate we could be killed(dead). Our Escape has only 10,800 miles on it, and is driven by my wife. She drove it intown for about 15 miles 2 days previously. On this day, she started the car. Idled it for about 3 minutes, put it in gear and 400 ft. Later the dash light said shut down engine, overheat. The gas pedal was inop. . The car would only go about 1 mile per hour. No matter what I did to the gas pedal it would not allow the car to do more than idle. I checked under the hood and saw no leaks, the radiator reservoir was about 1/2 full. We had the car towed to landmark Ford in spfd, IL 5 days later they told me that the radiator hose had a hole in it. (they threw the hose away and would not let me see it) we have absolutely no leakage stains on our driveway. They charged me $429. 49 to replace the radiator hose. I checked the cost of the motorcraft hose at the autoparts store it was $28. 66. I am long ago retired , but was certified in many different engine repair types. The 1st thing we always checked was the thermostat. They did not test or replace the thermostat according to their bill. I suspect fraud from the dealer, but this is not your concern. What is the concern is the probable cause of injury or death when the engine computer lites the dash and stops the accelerator function. On a highway that can and probably will cause an accident. . Thank you --james keller, 217-529-2422.

24 Radiator problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/05/2017

The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 19,000.

25 Radiator problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/15/2017

February 2017, vehicle in motion, 50 mph & suddenly alarm/engine light & temp gauge went crazy, vehicle stalls out from overheating in left lane of 2 ln hwy. Able to cruise to shoulder. Knew it was an issue w/ radiator or coolant from the smell & warning on dash. In close proximity of store where friend works so waited 45 min to cool& vehicle did start. Able to nurse it over to the parking lot that was 5min away, eng light stayed on. Time of incident was 8:00 pm viewing engine under better light, coolant was critically low. Purchased coolant from store where refilled reservoir, waited until he was off work, 9:20 pm, so can follow me home in case I need more assistance. Arrive at my home without incident, engine light on. In following days, I monitor coolant for 2 weeks& figure its an isolated incident. Engine lt remains on for 7 days. After 3wks, need to top off coolant as it drops under fill line. I purchased this vehicle @19kmi & time of incident had 35k miles. Feeling it is a bit unusual to have these issues at such low mileage but im no expert, figured something that needs to be monitored reg as the temp gauge reads normal/no engine/warning light has been on since. I received in April-safety recall17s09/17v-209. I read that repair not available until late 2017& I will be notified by Ford when to sched. Service appt for cooling sys. Upgrade. Have not rcvd any further notice & have had to top off the coolant once again. Letter states to "maintain proper coolant level to reduce risk of overheating that can lead to a fire" am I reducing risk only? not eliminating this risk? idid some research, leading me to this complaint. I'm financing this vehicle for $380/mth & very unhappy with this situation & am not sure of my options if there is no resolution yet. I do not want to break down in traffic again if there is a risk of repeating the initial incident, or worse.

26 Radiator problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/07/2016

Lost all coolant from radiator all at once when turned car off when came home from store because coolant light came on. . Replaced thermostat first. That didn't work. Put in new water pump, ran for about another week , than did same thing. So replaced radiator . Mind you car never ran hot, coolant light just kept coming on.

27 Radiator problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/18/2016

Since January 18, my car has stalled many time while driving, has been to the dealership six times, not fixed, always unable to replicate. It has now been there for a week, trying to replicate the stalling. It has stalled while diving out of my driveway, on side streets, and twice on the highway. No engine lights go on, it just stalls. The radiator, the map sensor and now the battery have been replaced, still no fix. The water pump was replaced after a recall in 2014 after overheating and coolant leaks.

28 Radiator problem of the 2012 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

I purchased my 2012 Escape in August 2014,with approximately 29,000 miles on it. Within ten months, the air conditioner quit working. As I was pulling into a parking lot, smoke started coming out of the radiator area and a green substance was blowing out. The rear lift gate only opened some of the time, over the past year, and now does not open at all, possibly because water leaks through the hatch window, and has done so since I bought the vehicle.

29 Radiator problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/08/2014

Starting in April of 2014 when the car was only 9 months old the warning light came on "get to safety" overheating engine. It went to pleasantville Ford where they replaced the engine. 1 month later all the transmission fluid fell out of the care. Back to pleasantville Ford where they replaced a part. Over the next 8 months the warning over heating "get to safety" would happen another 7 times. Ford would tow the car to pleasantville Ford they would fix (a sensor, fill fluid, and give me the run around) the final time I filled a complaint with bbb. They got a Ford mechanic from deer born, mi to look at the car. He replaced the radiator and right axial. Only for two weeks later the same "get to safety" and the car dies again.

30 Radiator problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/12/2012

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph the vehicle stalled and overheated. The vehicle was later towed to the dealer where they advised that the radiator seal was fractured, causing a leak. In addition, they advised that the rear axle seal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired for the radiator and rear axle seals. The manufacturer was contacted and provided 100 percent coverage of the repair. Also, the contact stated that the vehicle would shift in and out of gear without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where they advised that the solenoid and another unknown component needed replacing. The vehicle was repaired. 31 Radiator problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/08/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while at a stop light before entering the freeway. When he tried to move forward after the light, the vehicle completely shut down. The contact shifted to neutral and re-started the vehicle and the problem seemed to correct itself. He noticed the problem again and was able to re-start the vehicle almost immediately. There were no warning lights on the dashboard indicating a possible reason for failure. He took the vehicle to the dealership and the dealer told him that there was a flaw in the design of the vehicle and a leak in the transmission fluid compartment and the radiator was also destroyed. He was also told that the radiator, air conditioning condenser, the transmission fluid compartment and other components (not known to the contact) needed to be replaced. He called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. The manufacturer offered to cover half of the repairs if he signed a contract stating that he would no longer complain about the problem. The vehicle was being repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 49,000.

32 Radiator problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

The car started to drive sluggish and hesitated in the middle of the street. After checking the transmission fluid I found that I was nearly empty. I refilled the tranny with about 3 quarts of fluid. The next day I checked it again and there was no fluid on the stick. I looked at the right passenger front side of the vehicle and saw were fluid was leaking from under the radiator. After having this checked out I am told that this is the transmission cooler and lines and there is no fix for the problem. It can be replaced but it will happen again according to the dealer. Now, I have to put a quart or more in every day. There is no recall and the warranty does not cover this repair. This fluid leak could possible cause a fire under the hood and by dripping out so fast it could cause the vehicle to stop in traffic without warning.

33 Radiator problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/13/2004

Idiot lite for radiator lit - low on radiator fluid - vehicle had been serviced just 1 month prior with a "check and top off all fluids" oil change - why was the low fluid not detected at that time?.

34 Radiator problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/03/2003

The radiator fill bottle located to the right of the engine compartment, has a sensor that detected when the level is low in it. There is a light that comes on ,when it is low activated in the dash next to the tachometer. It has turned on for about 6 months and will not turn off, even when the refill bottle is filled. The dealer says you have to replace the bottle and it has happened several times with the Escapes. He suggested I buy a replacement bottle at a cost of about $62. 00. This unit should not go out after only about 50,000 miles and mislead you to think you are out of fluid. There needs to be a recall on the bottle to have the dealer fix it at no cost, since it has occurred at vic bailey Ford a lot of times on the new Escapes.
