1 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2019 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/09/2024

Tire size: 235/50 r18 I was driving on the highway at approx 65 miles per hour in the far left lane when I heard a loud pop and then my car started driving weird. No warning lights came on in my vehicle prior to. I pulled over as soon as I safely could and when I stopped and got out. I realized it was my passenger rear tire that exploded. I called aaa and they put on my spare. The next day I was able to get my vehicle to an ntb. The associate there told me that my front passenger wheel also had side wall damage and that’s likely what caused my passenger tire to pop. He commented that my tread was really good on all my tires so it wasn’t the cause. Because it was two tires that needed changing I was recommended to change all four tires for safety reasons.

- the tire side walls blew out. There are several tears approximately 2-3 inches long. - it happened going about 55 and maintaining control of the car was difficult. My wife was broke down alone in an isolated area. - I took the tire to twin state Ford in st johnsbury vt where it was looked at by the service department. He confirmed there was a safety recall on the tires for the year make and model that matched my car but he said my VIN number was not included. Ford number 21s10 recall date 2021-03-09 - a few seconds before the tire blew out the low tire light came on. 4 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2018 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/09/2021

A set of four (4) tires were purchased on 09/07/2021. The cars mileage was 30,389 at time of purchase. On 11/09/2021, I discovered two dollar size bulges on the sidewall outside of the front passenger tire. These bulges were protruding about 3/4 of an inch. I reported the defect to firestone and on 11/15/21, the tire was replaced and remaining three were examined with no defects found. The mileage on the car when defect was found was 33,558. My concern is that if I had not discovered this defect, a possible front tire "blow-out" may have occurred and because my vehicle is an SUV, a "rollover" at highway speeds if likely. I am reporting this in the event that firestone fails to make proper reports & notifications.

5 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2015 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/17/2016

My wife experienced a second tire failure today while driving down the road. Our 2015 Ford Escape has 11,011 miles on it. The first failure occurred in mid-January 2016 when the vehicle had 9,537 miles on it. The sidewall on both tires showed a large crack in it after the failure. Both failures were not the result of striking a road hazard. The tire deflation light came on right away when the failures occurred. The failures did not result in a collision since they occurred at a speed of approximately 25mph and there wasn't any traffic around. The first failed tire was replaced with the same michelin tire. My wife and I have both been driving 40+ years and I've never experienced a problem like this with any of my vehicles or with a michelin tire in the past. I strongly suspect there is a design issue or manufacture defect with these tires. It has been a rare instance when this vehicle has been operated on the highway. I am reluctant to do so with these tires on the vehicle, and equally reluctant to replace this second failure with a like michelin considering the complaints I have found registered with the national highway traffic safety administration after researching this tire on the NHTSA. Gov website. I do have photos of the second failed tire to document the damage and tire dot # since I will be replaced the failed tire tomorrow.

7 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2005 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/17/2009

I have a 2005 Ford Escape with two oem tires on the rear and two newer tires of from the same company (continental) on the front end. For months now, when traveling at various speeds on the highway, I have heard a loud and violent flapping sound. The noise sounded as if there was a window open. . . After checking my tires, seal on all openings, etc. , I could not find the source of the problem. Yesterday evening, while driving on the highway between 50 and 70mph, I had a blowout of my rear oem driver's side tire. Fortunately, it was not raining and it occurred while driving along a stretch of I-10 that had no guardrails, construction, etc. When I got out to inspect the damage, I noted that the tread itself was practically without problem; the problem was in the sidewall. My had a rip in the shape of a crescent moon with splitting going both toward the exterior of the tire and toward the interior or wheel/hub assembly. A local police officer arrived and assisted with the repair, which took moments, but I am quite concerned about the integrity of both the remaining oem tire I currently still have on the rear passenger side and, more importantly, the two newer continental sport lx tires I currently have on the front end. My car has low mileage for it's age and the tread on all of my tires is not worn; there appears to be no explanation other than a design flaw or defect. I am quite concerned for my safety and am unsure whether I should replace all four tires with a different brand or if this alleged defect only affects the oem line of continental tires which came with my vehicle (continental contitrac I think). I have read about similar instances online, but all instances do not describe a resolution process other customers purchasing new tires and/or receiving a $20 voucher from the tire manufacturer, general. I think this brand/model should be recalled and replacement tires of better quality should be provided at no cost.

9 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2001 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/23/2007

I was traveling northbound on the 215 freeway at about 70 to 75 mph in the #1 lane when I heard noises I recognized from my past as tire tread coming lose from the tire it self. I immediately began to maneuver my vehicle to the right shoulder. As god would have there was a break in traffic that allowed me to do so. After the roadside service (aaa) arrived to change the damaged tire with the spare I was shocked to see that the damaged tire was damaged only to the outside wall of the tire. Which appeared to have just come lose. I am thankful there was no accident caused but I do want to file this complaint.
