38 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/11/2018

Power steering went out in my 08 escape. Took to Ford dealership who told me that recall was no longer attached to the vehicle since its over the 46,000 miles limit. I informed them that there is no expiration or mileage on recalls. They then said that it needs a software update and the cost will be about $1000. My husband was driving it to work and noticed the steering wheel started to shake when stopped. Then driving home the power steering went out.

39 Steering problem of the 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/03/2018

Power steering: wife started car with baby in the back, and the power steering system was out. Cluster displaying "power steering assist fault". Fuse appears to be intact. Contacted Ford about recall# 14s05, and multiple reps say there is no active recall, even though it's listed on the NHTSA site.

40 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/19/2017

Takata recall power steering stoped working very suddenly. While I was doing deliveries for my work I parked the car turned it off and when I got back after about 10 min. Power steering didn't work and hasn't worked ever since. The only thing that I noticed that day is that every time I turned there was a very slight shake on the steesring wheel. I thought that was unusual but never thought that 2 hours later the power steering would completely fail. Thank god this happened when the vehicle was parked. I checked for recalls and noticed that the Ford escape 08 has a recall on the power steering, I imagine there was enough complaints to make the recall happen. However, there are not as many hybrid models and I'm sure that's the only reason why there's no recall for this specific model yet. But as far as I know both models the escape and the Escape Hybrid are identical in many ways including some parts if not all parts of the power steering system.

41 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/13/2017

The power steering assist fault came up while I was driving through a sharp turn and almost caused an accident. Went away on its own and next day came in again and since then my car is hard to steer and dangerous to drive. There was a recall of 14s05 but it doesnt show for my vehicle. Mine is the same year affected but does not apply for some reason and dealership is refusing to take any action to remediate.

42 Steering problem of the 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/09/2017

I received an error about my steering assistant and then my steering just went out. It was extremely hard to turn the wheel and I was driving my mother home. I am lucky we weren't both killed! or killed someone else!!! I was surprised to find out that my VIN isn't covered as part of the recall that involves this same issue. It will be $900 to fix and I'm unsure how to complain. Ford is an upstanding company that I though stood by its products but I'm finding out that may not be the case. It is unfortunate to my family as well, since its only a few weeks until christmas but will need to pay this expense. There is a sticker on the windshield that says it was made in kansas. Based on the recall in place that is the plant affected. I can send a pic of that sticker if you need it.

44 Steering problem of the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/02/2017

My Ford escape 2009 started experiencing power steering issues and ended up with no power steering. I have contacted Ford and they were of no help whatsoever. I then proceeded to contact NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 and filed a complaint. The agent gave me a complaint number and suggested to contact the federal trade commission at 877 382 4357, which I intend to do when their office opens. From my research this very issue has been recalled for my model & make both in the united states & canada. My particular model VIN was not part of the recall. I have discovered that I am not alone in this power steering issue boat but Ford has not been proactive. I strongly suggest everyone do the same complaint filings as I firmly believe that Ford - on their own - will not fess up to anything and will provide no assistance.

Failure Date: 04/03/2017

The electronic power steering assist suddenly stopped functioning ,.

48 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/23/2017

As I was driving home from work Thursday 3/23/17 the steering wheel started clicking and shaking back and forth by itself during driving and at a stop. I investigated right away and discovered there was a recall on the torque sensor but all they did was a computer update rather then replace the part. Now they won't honor the recall and the cost is $1700-$1900 to fix.

49 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/06/2017

Multiple episodes of "stop safely now" (after new engine ($8000) was put in 6/2014). At time of engine replacement, recall for power steering module was completed. Fast forward to 3/2017. . . . Monday morning (8am) new 'wrench' light goes on in dash. Drop kids at daycare and when I restart car (830am) and went to back out of the driveway - no power steering!!! good thing Ford took care of that recall back in 2014. . . *sarcasm* now they say that the only way it would be covered under recall was if loss of power steering occurred within 12 months of recall being completed. This car has been nothing but a headache and 2 Ford dealerships that do not stand behind the Ford name or their service!.

50 Steering problem of the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/03/2017

Power steering went out in 2017 (recall 14s05 was appled in 2014).

51 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/02/2017

I have a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid, on 03. 02. 17 when I went to leave for work, a wrench light came on in my car. When I did some research I found a lot of recall notices of for this-prior to this, when at an idle my steering wheel had recently started to vibrate-the car drove perfectly fine to work. As I left from work that day, I had no steering!! it was worse than driving a car with no power steering. I was scared and almost got into an accident going home due to this!! I took it to the Ford dealership the next day and it pulled a code b2278-steering shaft torque sensor malfunction-which is exactly what the recall for my year, make and model were for. Well, Ford states my VIN number doesn't qualify for the recall!!! are you kidding me?!! I was almost in an accident and it is the exact same thing that the recall was for!!! I want Ford to be held responsible to reimburse me for this. They can't pick and choose which vehicles qualify and don't when it is the exact same problem.

52 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

Making a turn today March 1,2017 on a main street the steering wheel became very hard to turn. The dashboard error message stated poer steering assist fault. Called dealership since I read online of a recall for this malfunction but they said my VIN is not included. This is very dangerous since turning the wheel is extremely difficult and unsafe to drive!!!.

54 Steering problem of the 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/15/2017

My vehicle is covered under recall #14v284000. I have tried 4 times with local Ford dealership to setup this appointment and each time gotten a run around. Dates and times I attempted to try: Feb 15th at 4:07pm, Feb 11, Feb 8th, 2:15pm, Feb 1st, at 1:45pm and Jan 2nd at 2:45pm. Ford is clearly trying to avoid fixing my truck and has given me excusing ranging from we will have service department call you back to no one is in the service department right now. Never have they called me back once. I consider this criminal intent to avoid fixing this issue till my vehicle is over the 150,000 limit. I am expecting NHTSA to promote this case as such or I will do so with every means at my disposal.

Failure Date: 01/10/2017

Steering torque sensor went out, over $700 in repairs, recall 14s05 in effect for this model year on this part, but somehow our VIN not included in recall. Should have been included in recall and we should not have to pay for this repair. Steering shaking, vibrating, stiff.

58 Steering problem of the 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/06/2017

Power steering went out. Searching the internet showed many people had to replace the power steering module at near $1000. They did recall this same module on the 2008 for safety purposes. This should be expanded to include the previous models. The vehicle turned on and the power steering never came on. Temperature was -2 degree f. Service inditcator light came on and the instrument panel said service power steering.

61 Steering problem of the 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

Power steering module suddenly malfunctioned.

62 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 11/07/2016

When I would turn occasionally the wheel would lock up but after a few seconds I would regain power. I parked it at school and approximately 7 hours later I returned and started it. As I was backing out the steering only worked for about 2 seconds and locked up except this time it did not correct itself. I tried turning it off and on again but it was not fixing it. I had to have it towed. There is a recall on other '08 Ford Escape Hybrids but not mine. All for the same problem too.

63 Steering problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/09/2016

My family and I were driving home when suddenly and without warning, the power steering went out. I have had no warnings leading up to this event. The wrench icon came on and an error message came on in the dash stating to have the power steering serviced. This was extremely dangerous as it just happened without warning as I was turning off of a major highway at a busy intersection. I have contacted Ford and they are saying that this is not part of a recall. Everything I have read states that this is a common problem specifically in the hybrid vehicles Ford manufactures. There have been recalls for the same issue for newer model vehicles, but not this one. It is my belief that this issue should be investigated due to the dangerous condition caused by the power steering going completely out in the car as I was turning.

64 Steering problem of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/26/2016

My vehicle has 75,000 miles on it. I bought it oct. 9,2015 with 72,000 miles on it. In may 2016 the engine started cutting out and the message would read "service engine" along with a yellow wrench appearing on the dash. I had the vehicle taken to the local Ford dealer and was told I needed a harness. I paid 1004. 00 for the new harness and they also installed a fan for the hybrid system. The car did it again a few days later and I had it towed back to the dealer. The service department told me they had made a mistake and had to call Ford to get the correct codes to fix the car. I was told it was done and picked it up. The same thing happened less than 4 days later. I had the car towed again and let the dealership send my car home with a mechanic for 2 days. I was told nothing is wrong and picked it up. I now have the abs light coming on, the red triangle safety light coming on, the red brake light coming on, the low tires light coming on (it stays on) and the yellow wrench light coming on. At night when I turn on my right blinker the high beams come on. The dealership says there is nothing wrong and no codes come up on their machine. When I brake I have to push very hard and sometimes the brakes lock up on me. I have avoided accidents so far but I am concerned at this point. I do not want to be injured or killed and I certainly do not want to injure or kill anyone in an accident that could be avoided, if Ford had a mechanic that knows what is happening with the car. When I am driving the car will suddenly shut off in traffic and I have to stop, put the car in park and restart it. This is good for about 10 minutes before it acts up again.

65 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/10/2016

The safety recall notices 14s05 / NHTSA recall 14v-286 and 14s09 / NHTSA 14v526000 were performed on my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. However, the problems did not go away. Since the recalls, the car has had issues with reduced steering range, key/ignition not turning, power surge while driving, locking steering wheel, and the worst: a complete shut down of the powertrain while driving, resulting in a stall-like condition, putting our lives at risk. On June 11, 2016 the car was serviced and steering housing replaced. We asked for service to check the entire car-- everything!!!!-- as the car had been acting strangely with power surges and locking steering wheel while driving. Today, July 10 2016, while driving south on interstate-5 in CA, heading from home (danville, CA) to college (san diego, CA) the car's system completely failed while driving up the grapevine, a section of freeway that is extremely crowded and full of large 18 wheelers. My poor daughter (who now owns the car) called me, screaming hysterically, full of terror and fearing for her life. She had no power, was unable to steer, did her best the Dodge the 18 wheelers and "limp mode" over to the side of the freeway. She's now on the way with tow truck driver to drop the car off at Ford of valencia CA. I told her do not ever drive that car again. It is a seriously dangerous vehicle.

66 Steering problem of the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/25/2016

The brakes are hard, runs all the way to stop this hard . El wheel can not turn easily to the sides. It gives me the code u0418, u0413. Is is not due to wear is a manufacturer fails.

67 Steering problem of the 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 04/08/2016

The steering assist system turns on and off at will and makes the vehicle nearly inoperable and definetly a safefty issue.

68 Steering problem of the 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/31/2016

This complaint is closely related to a 2014 recall relative to electric power steering assist on Ford escape and Mercury mariner vehicles, however Ford states my VIN was not covered under the recall. Ref: NHTSA action#dp15001, NHTSA 14v-284, Ford 14s05. Problem: on a nearly-daily basis, the power steering assist (which is all-electric on this vehicle) "drops out" briefly - typically for 1-3 seconds - often during a turn. The vehicle steering has a strong tendency to "center" so for a driver without upper body strength this could easily cause loss of control. On two occasions the power steering assist has stopped and remained inactive after re-starting, which required me to visit a repair shop to have the software reset - a 5 minute process performed with a programmed ipad. Ford's recall center and customer relationship center took the case #, but want me to visit a dealer and pay for a diagnosis. Issue has occurred both turning and not turning; low speed and highway speed, cold and warm weather.

69 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/12/2016

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. While driving approximately 25 mph, the steering lost power for a few seconds and then returned to normal. The failure recurred two days later, while the contact's daughter was in reverse. The steering lost power completely without warning. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who previously repaired the vehicle according to NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The dealer stated that the recall repair was already performed and the contact would be responsible for the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the local dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

70 Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 02/05/2016

Before the torque sensor recall, my power steering went out intermittently sometimes accompanied by the stop safely now red triangle. Upon being notified of the recall I took the vehicle to jack safro Ford in oconomowoc, wisconsin to complete the recall. I was told my vehicle required the easier fix and the dealer didn't replace the torque sensor. Within a few months my power steering started going out intermittently again. It started going out more often and I also noticed that the car would not start first try. Usually I had to turn the ignition 3-4 times to get the vehicle to start. In the past month my power steering is now completely out. It is a very dangerous situation as if a car went over the center line or a deer or animal were to go in front of me I would not be able to react quickly without power steering. Also, it is so hard to pull into parking spaces and turn the wheel that I have to see a doctor because I am having sharp pain in my shoulders. We took the car to jack safro this week and they told us they would talk to Ford. All they did was try to reset computer and the steering is still completely out. They said Ford would not cover it and gave us the 800 number to complain. So now I am stuck with an unsafe car and I have a grandson I need to transport some days. Why in the world can't the dealer replace the torque sensor if that was the recall and what is needed to repair my car? why does it have to issue certain codes? can't the dealer see for themselves there is no power steering due to the fact that they never did the proper vehicle recall repair? I am baffled! our son just purchased a Ford truck and my husband also owns one so we have 3 Fords in our driveway!.
