I have a Ford Excursion 2001 v10 with 123k
I was sitting at a stop light with very little engine torque at the time when I had a "spark plug blow out" the spark plug was blown out of their head and in turn took out the coil. . When this happened it filled the engine compartment with gas fumes and the spark plug was still attached to the cable and providing a spark. With the spark I feel there could have been a fire in the engine compartment but because I was able to turn off the truck as soon as it happened there was no fire. Ford knows of this problem because they have a repair kit with a insert to put in the head to repair it. The Ford dealer repaired it at a cost of $344. 18 but I was told that this is common in most of the triton engines Ford has. I think there could have been a fire under the hood had it not been that I was sitting at a light and turned it off as soon as it happened.

Driving on interstate at 70 mph, vehicle had a complete loss of power. Traveling with family in the vehicle had to bring to a stop on the side of the road with no power assistance. Mo highway patrol (motorist assist) had to be called to locate tow truck as we were in the middle of nowhere. We were told Ford has given assistance on the repair of this specific engine on other vehicles, pick up or large van, however they are ignoring the same repairs and failures with this engine in the Excursions.

My 2001 Ford Excursion ejected a spark plug from the cylinder head. This is the second time that this has happened. After research, I have learned that this is a commong defect.
2001 Ford Excursion 5. 4l triton v8. At 89,000 spark plug blew out of cylinder. In shop now for fix. I read it is a huge issue with Ford.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Excursion. The contact stated that her vehicle caught fire while it was parked. The fire was under the drivers side wheel and then the entire engine was engulfed in flames. The fire department extinguished the fire. A fire report is available. An insurance adjuster will inspect the damages. The cause of the fire was unknown. There were no injuries. The manufacturer has not been notified. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Ford - spark plug blow out: yesterday my 2001 Excursion with a 5. 4 triton v8 engine blew a spark plug right out of the engine. It blew out with such force, the boot and cap/ coil snapped in two (the screw is still on tight). The treads of the old plug have no (none, zero) signs of damage, so how does a spark plug that is screwed in just blow out. Our local mechanic states "this is common on many Ford triton engines. The head heats up and expands, since there are minimal threads holding the plug in place, during the combustion cycle, the plug just blows completely out. " I thought he was giving me a load of non-sense, thus simply preparing me for the sure to be huge up-coming bill. However, once I researched this on-line, it only took just a few minutes to discover many, many people have experienced the same thing, on several different year, make and model vehicles involving Ford's triton engines. I have always been a Ford guy. I dealt with the cruise control issue and such but this one takes the cake. During these harsh economic times Ford needs to step up and do the right thing or they will never see me, any of my relatives or friends at any of their dealerships again! we will go elsewhere and let Ford learn a thing or two about a very valuable lesson regarding simple economics called "supply and demand" or lack thereof for any of Ford's products (cars, trucks, t-shirts, logo stickers, etc). Ford owners experiencing this same issue need to stand up, be heard and more importantly to have this problem fixed by those responsible for creating the issue - Ford!.
Spark plug blew out of my 2000 Ford Excursion v10 and I am now seeing that this is a growing problem with these engines. I have 5 trucks with these engine and now I am very worried.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Excursion. The contact stated that after opening the hood there was gasoline fumes coming from the engine and fuel was spraying all over the engine. The fuel continued to spray throughout the engine while the vehicle was on; however, when the vehicle was turned off there was a puddle of fuel under it. The dealer observed the fuel leak while performing an additional recall repair and refused to address or repair the fuel leak unless the contact paid $200 for the repair. The manufacturer stated that the fuel leak was not a part of the recall. There was routine maintenance performed on the vehicle prior to the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

2001 Ford Excursion shuts off while driving or stopped. It was taken to local dealer and was told there were no recalls and that everyting was fine. This happen on average 2 a week. From that poin to present. The vehicle is a psd and had its csp replace several times. This problem has happen while stopped at stop light, driving 65mph, pulling a trailer and is now putting needless persons at risk. I have presonally replaced the cps, the valve cover gaskets, the pcm has been checked and the dealer still states there is nothing wrong with the Excursion.
2004 Ford Excursion v-10. Come to a stop and the tach shows normal 650-700 rpm, and within a few seconds car will accelerate to 1800-2000 rpm by itself and the car surges forward. Driver must leave plenty of space between the car and the one ahead to give him time to stop. No crash yet!!!. It does this every time you stop.

Ford triton 6. 8l v10 spark plug ejection Ford insists the problem is due to improper torquing of new plugs or any number of other reasons. However many people have had the original factory spark plugs eject from the engine, which indicates there is a defect with the engine & cylinder head design.
I have had a total of four spark plugs blow out of my 2001 Ford Excursion, v-10 in the last two years. I have had my mechanic repair them with a helicoil kit, but I recently had the helicoil come out on a defective spark plug. Now my mechanic is looking for a kit that will repair the repair.
I was driving home from a trip, 70 mph on interstate and engine makes a loud bang. I pull over my husband checks under the hood. The coil is on top of the engine sparking. At further inspection the spark plug has blown out of the engine. My husband is able to get the plug back in the engine so we can make it home. Nothing has been done to fix this problem, can't see paying Ford $3000. 00 to replace head with the same faulty part.
Spark plug blow out on 5. 4 triton engine.
While driving the vehicle at city speeds the vehicle blew out a spark plug.
2000 Ford Excursion v-10 ejected a spark plug while I was taking my kids to school this morning. This appears to be a known manufacturing flaw that Ford refuses to stand up to. Cost to repair was quoted at $3,750. I believe that Ford motor company should be held accountable for their inaction to correct a well documented defect.
Cam position sensor failure on a 2002 Ford Excursion with a 7. 3l powerstroke at 42,800 miles.
My 2001 Ford Excursion with 82,000 miles, blew a spark plug out of the rear passenger side cylinder. The dealer states that the aluminum head failed and that there are no threads left in the hole. They also state that the only fix is to replace the head and it is not covered under my extended warranty that I purchased from Ford.
I own a 1999 Ford expedition and have now had 2 spark plugs eject out of the cylinder head due destroying the coils of each spark plug in the process. This is a widely know issue with 1997-2000 Fords, but Ford is doing nothing about it. I call the dealer in carlsbad California and was quoted almost $3000 to fix the problem. There is no recall on this failure and Ford is doing nothing about it. I found a company named timesert that sells a "Ford triton spark plug steel inser kit" and paid over $400 for the kit and did the repairs myself. . . . When a company like timesert makes a kit specifically to fix this problem with Fords it's hard not to believe there is a serious problem here that Ford needs to correct.

Own 3 Ford vehicles. This year, 2 out of 3 have had blown spark plugs. E350 was repaired and seems to be running well. Excursion not so lucky and now, it looks like needs a new head. Extremely frustrating due to the low mileage on this vehicle 51000 when plug blew.
The contact stated while driving a spark plug blew out of the engine ,causing a hole to be blown in the ignition coil. The independent repair shop personal replaced the coil pack, drilled and tapped the motor head on the number three cylinder.
My wife was driving the vehicle and she heard a "big pop". Vehicle became immediately disabled. She called tow company and sent to neighborhood Ford dealer. They stated that a spark plug had popped out of the aluminum engine. I immediately thought "defect" as spark plugs should not be flying out of engine blocks. I took my complaint to the dealer customer service manager & owner. She (amanda) stated that there is a serious problem with Ford engines and that this is problem that they know about. She said they know the threads were "too short" and that it could happen again at any time to other spark plugs. I fear for the safety of my family but with six kids we need the vehicle run our daily lives. I have been advised after the re-tapping "repair" at the dealership that the only Ford authorized repair is a full replacement of the cylinder heads that would cost $ 6,000. This is a whole other issue. Please do not let them get away with this. I am informed that there are thousands of others that are having the same problem.
While driving down the road heard big pop and lots of noise. Spark plug on #4 cylinder blew out on v-10 on 2001 Ford Excursion. Had heli coil put in sparkplug hole. Spark plug on #7 cylinder blew out and had heli coil put in, but started leaking again. Was told could not fix with heli coil and had to replace head.
Our 2000 Ford Excursion keeps having the spark plugs shoot out of their holes damaging the head and individual spark plug coils (3 replaced so far). We have spent nearly $500 repairing the heads/coils so far. I expect additional plugs to fail on the v-10 engine. I am afraid of continued head and coil damage and even fuel line damage leading to an engine fire and total vehicle loss. I want Ford to recall the vehicle and replace the heads with new heads with a better spark plug hole design.
Consumer stated the vehicle would cut off without warning.
Consumer stated while driving, the camshaft sensor failed, causing the engine to stop.
2001 Ford Excursion. Consumer states the spark plug blew out of the head of the engine damaging the threads.
Vehicle caught on fire while parked and turned off. The alarm was also on. The fire originated from the engine compartment on the driver's side, per the fire inspector.
