I stopped engine at my house, left headlights on to see. Wiring harness failure (dead short) ignited the left headlight assembly, flames extended over a foot high. Fuse never blew out. Had a fire extinguisher at hand, put out flames. $4600 damage, but saved the vehicle. Why didn't the fuse blow? I have all of the damaged parts: wire harness, headlight, bracket. Took vehicle to Ford dealer, damage was repaired, insurance paid.

My vehicle, a 2000 Ford Excursion limited, v-10 gasoline engine, was parked in my driveway on 3/3/07, locked and everything turned off and had been there for quite a while, when I heard a loud explosion and I ran outside to find the vehicle on fire under the hood on the driver's side. The hood release did not work and I tried to put out the fire with a water hose. When the fire department came, we pried the hood open and extenquished the fire. But everything was burned and the vehicle is a total loss.
Kept having to replace fuse #45 on my 2002 Ford Excursion limited diesel 4x4. After putting into any gear, go to give it fuel it would nt do anything. Researched the internet and found that there was others with Ford truck 1999-2003 having same problem and read what they did to fix it. Apparently in the gear shift, there are 3 very short wires that were fraying due to be pinched. So since it was not under warranty we had to have the steering box cover removed and there it was, the wires were almost completely frayed. They were fixed and another fuse was installed only to find out that the truck would not do anything. Had to have it towed to a dealership and spent $600 on a new fuse box since the original one was fried due to the frayed wires. I drive 60 miles one way to work everyday and have 2 little girls and this could have caused a fire and believe me, Ford would have been in big trouble. So if others are having the very same problem, why has there not been a recall. It has been noted on the internet in various public forums. Compensation for me and others with an addition to a recall would be the solution and greatly appreciated before this causes deaths.
