2006 Ford Expedition failsafe mode comes on. It has happened 4 times in 4 months. Have loss of steering and engine has no power. Very dangerous.
On 2 separate occasions (both around 40,000 miles), the car just shut itself off, without warning, while driving down the road at about 40 mph. Power steering and power braking both failed. I was just able to coast across several busy lanes of traffic to get to the side of the road. This could be extremely dangerous, particularly if I was on a freeway or interstate. The dealer's diagnosis was that the throttle had gotten stuck wide open, and that the car had to go into failsafe mode to prevent it from accelerating out of control. What if the failsafe mode fails? I've read numerous other complaints of the same thing happening on other 2006 Ford Expeditions. There is clearly a defective part here, and it is clearly a safety issue.
2006 Ford Expedition, has stopped several times while in route somewhere. Just stops at once and safe mode failure light comes on. Power steering fails, as well as engine stopping. Have had rebuilt transmission, replace the throttle, and several other things including I believe air pump. None of this cheap. But biggest concern is the safety of the vehicle. Have been very blessed that no one has been behind me when this has happened or on the highway. This is very scary and Ford needs to recall and figure out what is causing this to occur.
