1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2024

The service engine light continues to turn on. The timing belt continues to fail and has already been replaced once. The camshaft on both sides have been replaced. The solenoids have also been replaced and the diagnostics codes still pop up (p0022) (p0021) are just some that I can remember. The engine does not have enough power on the driver side and throws the timing belt off which causes the loud rattle coming from the engine. When reaching the speed of 40-45 mph the truck begins to shake. Recently in November 2023, when fueling up with gas , the truck began to shake and not respond. When accelerating, the truck takes off very slowly and the gears dont kick in on time. When the gas light comes on , the truck begins to function well. But as soon as I put gas again. It feels like the truck is going to fall apart. The driver door gets stuck when trying to open from the inside. The back door on the left does not open from the outside. The gear handle can be moved up and down while the truck is not turned on. Please help!!.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2017

Ford had a recall for broken spark plugs & a class action lawsuit on this vehicle. Ford has failed to fully compensate us & told me hardly no one would receive compensation. We replaced the plugs with Ford approved revised plugs at Ford with @ 149k miles on 11/2015. The engine codes or problems would come up now and again & we had it into various vendors. . 2/ 2017,driving back to wyoming I came up an I was under load (hauling a trailer) and the auto almost did not make it home or up a grade. We took it in to replace the coils. The vendor, midway motors replaced the coil & noticed the new revised Ford approved spark plug 5 was broken, and plug 6 also showed a code, (mileage 172627 miles). The engine was damaged so we traded the Ford in for a Dodge. My point Ford has not fixed the issue & is deceiving the public. And 2nd lawsuit claim form is le80174619 . The vehicle was kept lin like new shape pristine. I was sad I had to trade it in but did not feel safe. I think you need to know how Ford is practicing and not handling ethically, legally, or properly; both the class action lawsuit and also the (revised spark plugs are also failing). Yes I have detailed documents!! ask me I can email you pdf 307-587-5419 kathylewis61@gmail. Com .

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

As I am driving down the road I lose power and deaccerlate and go into fail safe mode. The little wrench light comes on the dash. Then the engine cuts off completely. This has happened at multiple speeds. It is extremely dangerous! once I turn the key off I restart the engine and it may not happen again for a month. I replaced the throttle position sensor and it did not do this for about a year, now it is starting again and it has happened 5 times in the last 3 months. It has happened at 65mph, 40mph, 25mph, 55mph, 30 mph. There is no pattern. I have been lucky that I have been able to pull over to the side of the road or turn into a parking lot each time this happens, it scares me! I have read multiple accounts of this happening online to the 2006 and wonder why it has not been recalled if there are so many problems with it. I have taken it to Ford twice and bc the light does not stay on and it is not happening when I bring it to them they tell me there is nothing they can do.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2014

Driving in town on four lane at 45 mph. Fail safe light appeared and engine cut off and lost power steering. Almost rear ended as there was no place to pull off the road! engine was restarted and did not occur again while returning home.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2014

2006 Expedition fail safe mode came on while driving my children to school. Car immediately slowed to under 10mph. Was barely able to pull over and restart it. Thank goodness I was not on the expressway doing 60+ mph. There are numerous complaints on this issue with this car. It was very scary!.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2014

Was driving down off ramp lost all power to the vehicle, no steering, no brakes. I had my 3 children in the vehicle with me and thankfully I was able to cost to the shoulder until help arrived. Extremely scary had it happen 2 minutes earlier would of been off the ramp and into oncoming traffic! this is unacceptable!! my mechanic says it's the fuel pump, and just the part is 500 dollars?!? this could of ended very badly and I have had nothing but issues with this piece of junk. The paint is peeling off, looks like no primer or sealer was used it literally is flaking off on the hood and rear gate right where you would put your hands to open it. In the manual in very small print it says the oil from your fingers may cause paint to corrode, are you kidding me??? your not supposed to open your hood or tailgate??? ridiculous!! this vehicle in my opinion is a lemon!!.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2014

This is the second incident: the fist was about 3 months ago. I was driving down a residential street yesterday when the "fail safe mode" indicator came on and said engine shutting down. Car turns off, cannot steer. Very dangerous. I was on a residential street and was able to pull off. Turned the car off for a few minutes and it started and I drove to work, but the engine light remained on. I took it to an auto parts store who ran it and it came up as throttle body forces immediate idle. Which is exactly what the 10 pages on complaints on carcomplaints. Com said it would say - however information on that site also said it's actually the fuel pump modulator, but the computer did not indicate that at all. There were almost 60 complaints of the same situations - when I pulled out into traffic today the car 'hesitated' and did not accelerate correctly. The first incident occurred on a major highway - and again I was lucky enough to be in the right lane and was able to pull over. This defect is going to cause an injury or even death and it needs to be recalled and corrected. I will be contacting Ford corporate; but with the recent incidents with gm I would hate to see an accident or fatality occur when Ford and others are aware of this problem. Obviously I have to get this fixed, I'm hoping my Ford dealer will work with me, but I have a 4 year old so time is of the essence and I'm guessing money will be too. Regardless of Ford's corporate response, I will be contacting the media. This is a safety issue and is unacceptable that Ford is not taking responsibility.

Was driving down the road when Expedition started to lurch and not shift properly. Took it in to auto shop and they diagnosed that pistons 3 and 7 were misfiring. Cost was over 1500. 00.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

While driving approximately 35 kph my abs light came on followed by the brake light then the airbag light. (check engine never goes off. Replace all plugs and coils. Replace of sensors and several fuses. ) the headlights begin to flash off and on then truck started sputtering. The fuel light went from 3/4 tank to e. I pulled into shopping center placed it in park. Went to put it back in drive and couldn't something was draining battery that is only 3 months old. Don't know resolution but tired of this truck! it is ridiculous that this truck has so many repeat issues and no recall. Ford needs to be sued. I daily have to turn on my hazards and restart car because it spontaneously goes into limp mode, especially in traffic.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2013

On 1/9/2013, I was driving at approx. 35 mph when the engine turned itself off. I attempted restarting the engine to no avail. I coasted to the side of the road where the engine still would not start. After waiting about five minutes, I was able to restart the engine. The car seemed to run slowly on the way back home. The next time I drove the car, it seemed to run normally. On 2/12/2013, my wife was driving the car at 25 mph when the engine died again. She had to coast to the side of the road & wait to restart the car. She slowly drove back home with the vehicle. Next time the car was taken out, it ran normally. I am concerned that this problem could occur on the interstate highways at a higher speed & the result could have been vastly different.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

I was on hwy doing 55 getting ready to take my turn off when engine safe mode message came on. I then realized that I had no power even though lights, radio, and a/c was still on. Not being able to accelerate I coasted the vehicle to side of hwy as far as possible, turned key to off and than back on and it started up. I was able to get home without further problem and back to work. Unfortunately I have a 45 minute drive every night and early morning to and from my work which it could happen again and not have such a good circumstance. There have been several complaints over several years to Ford on this why has it not been recalled?.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2012

I bought my truck used from a dealership in January 2012. I had driven it for about 8 weeks when it completely died on me at a stop light before take off. Everything was on except it would not go and the message came up saying fail safe mode. It did it a couple weeks later taking off from a stop sign and then after that it seemed to do it once a month. This last time on Friday October 26, 2012 it did it while I was pulling out of a store into the middle of traffic. I was lucky enough my 3 year old son was not in the car to where it would have hurt him as well as others and myself. I have read many articles and complaints from other Expedition owners about the Expeditions going into fail safe mode in the middle of traffic. It is very concerning that they do this and the dealership has even made comments about it when it was examined. My mother works for Ford and she has seen multiple issues with this. Ford needs to issue a recall on these however they will not see anything wrong unless multiple people are injured or even dead. It is frustrating to know I paid over $20,000 on a vehicle that I love and need but is not safe for myself and my family. I have priced a throttle body with my mother's discount at work and it was about $210. 00 after tax and the labor to put it in is around $450. 00. If Ford would fix this problem people would not have to pay so much just to be safe in a vehicle they spend so much money. Please look into issuing something against this vehicle problem so that others are safe.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2011

While driving my 2006 Ford Expedition eddie bauer, the engine completely shuts off. Sometimes while sitting idle and other times while driving 70 mph on the interstate. Tonight, within 1 hour this happened about 15 times where the engine cut off, I lost power steering, had to roll over to the shoulder, turn the key off and back on to restart. . . Sometimes it would take up to 10 minutes to restart. I was lucky we were not hit from behind. I have 2 kids in carseats still that could have been injured. Research online reveals that I am not alone. This is a very dangerous defect that could get somebody killed.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

2006 Ford Expedition. Consumer states mechanical issues with the vehicle the dealer informed the consumer a new engine was needed. The warranty dept. 29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2011

Took my 2006 Ford Expedition limited to the dealership for a tune-up and was told of an issue that the 5. 4l engines have. They mentioned that some 2004-2008 f-150, 2006-2008 mark lt, 2005-2008 f-super duty, Expedition, and navigator, with 5. 4l 3-v engine; 2005-2008 mustang, 2006-2008 explorer, mountaineer, and 2007-2008 explorer sport trac with 4. 6l 3-v engine; 2005-2008 f-super duty, 2006-2008 and f-stripped chassis, with 6. 8l 3-v engine may experience difficulty with spark plug removal. This may cause damage to the spark plug and leave part of the spark plug in the cylinder head. Affected engine build dates are as follows: 5. 4l 3-v and 6. 8l 3-v before 10/9/07, 4. 6l 3-v before 11/30/07. Ford apperantly knows about this since they published a technical bullitin (TSB 08-7-6) to the dealerships. Now the consumer, who was never told about this when they purchase the vehicle has to pay an additional cost for a standard tune-up. When asked why, the service department mentioned that the cost is for the removal of broken plugs that they know they will break. Why would I have to pay additional money for damage done by the service department for an issue created by Ford motor CO. If the plugs are defective and Ford knows about this, they should be responsable or a recall should be issued. This to me is fraud by having the costumer pay for their mistakes.

For the fourth time in the past 2 years the SUV has shut down while driving the vehicle. The dashboad lights up, the steering wheel locks up, and completely shuts down while in traffic. No warning. 33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2010

2006 Ford Expedition shuts down while driving engine goes into fail safe mode which is like neutral with limited steering capabilities and no gas pedal use. Bought vehicle in Dec 09. This vehicle has done this approx 7 times. Has happened while on surface streets as well as the freeway. Very dangerous. At dealer for third time and they are giving a third reason for it happening. Checked internet and it is full of complaints of exactly same problem with no resolution from any mechanics but several different reasons they were given. A definite safety issue! on the phone with Ford customer service today about the issue. They will get back to me tomorrow. No recalls on this, apparently until someone gets hurt. This is another Toyota issue waiting to happen. I am a state trooper and you can believe I feel this is serious and needs to be addressed. Someone could be seriously hurt or killed especially on the freeway when this happens.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2010

Driving to work via freeway, had just reached the bottom of a freeway off-ramp, at a stoplight. Light turned green, had just started to go and the "fail safe engine mode" light on my 2006 Ford Expedition came on the dashboard, within 5 seconds the car turned off on its own, like taking the key out of the ignition. Had it towed to a Ford dealership, they ran diagnostics, said the throttle body assembly needed replacing. I looked on the internet, googling "fail safe engine mode" and "Ford" and found this to be a common problem. Asked why it's not a recall item or has a technical bulletin with so many cases of it, plus it's very dangerous. Many in their internet postings said the problem comes back. Dealership said to contact Ford corporate, opened a cudl case for me to request reimbursement. Wrote a letter to Ford corporate, included internet links to all the postings of other people having the same problem, asked for $480. 35 reimbursement, also asked what they are doing about this dangerous situation with the throttle body assembly. Ford corporate send me a letter back, simply said I'm past warranty and unable to provide reimbursement. They did not reply regarding my question about what's being done about this dangerous problem.
