1 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2012 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/24/2025

July 2025 my 2012 Ford Expedition threw a p0742 code for a stuck torque converter clutch. The vehicle had just under 150k miles and started to jerk in and out of gear and the wrench light illuminated so I, thankfully was going approximately 45 mph when it happened and was able to pull the vehicle over as it was in limp mode. When I cleared the dtc code the problem went away temporarily but eventually locked back up again within a mile from my home. Unfortunately, Ford dealerships will not stand behind the customer service number that they have listed for a replacement of the transmission lead frame. I provided the local dealership with all of the necessary information as well as an independent diagnosis by a transmission specialist. Looks like I'll just have to wait for the day that it causes a massive accident by downshifting into 1st gear at 65mph. Terrible customer service and I can only hope this doesn't cost someone their life.

4 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2006 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/10/2006

At about 11,000 miles I had the first incident while in normal traffic going about 45 mph. Felt like the transmission slipped. No power during 1st and 2nd gear change. A few days later the same thing happen while entering the interstate. While trying to accelerate there was no power, nearly hit by semi-truck, couldn't get over 60 mph and the check engine light came on. I slowed back on the accelerator and light went off and power slowly came back. Took vehicle to Ford at 12,000+ miles, kept it for several days. Said it was a computer module, changed it, picked vehicle up and not 2 miles down the road the same thing happened again. Didn't have the time to take it right back in not to mention there rental car experience was equally horrible. It's in their shop now 3/10 and I'm at 22,000 miles and it happens every time I accelerate. It's a very dangerous problem. Now they say they think it's something to do with the torque converter and have ordered parts. I'm also having a problem with it not starting after driving, getting out and getting back in within about 30 minutes. We'll see next week what the outcome is!.

6 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/20/2004

4r100 automatictransmission on 2001 Expedition with 45,700 started leaking transmission fluid. Mechanic found front bushing that was worn out and stated that bushing looked to have 150,000 miles on it rather thatn 45,700. Oviously a defective part. After replacing bushing, seals gaskets, bearings and torque convertor and a bill of $860 I still don't know if car is reliable or not.

7 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2001 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/15/2003

I am being told my Expedition transmission needs to be rebuilt. Originally (two weeks ago) was told it was a torque converter, and noticed no differece after spending $885. 00. After taking car back in, I am being told transmission needs rebuilding. Total cost is $2200. 00, champion Ford says Ford will pay 1700. 00 I need to pay an additional $300. 00. Seems odd that a transmission goes out at 44,000 miles; we don't pull or haul anything.

9 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 1999 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/23/2002

Again, I am not having to install another torque converter tomorrow. My original complaint to you was for the first torque converter installed while the car was still under warranty. My original complaint has all the necessary information concerning this car. What do I have to do to get some kind of feedback or information from someone that can inform me of my options on seeing that Ford is doing something about this?I am stuck with a car that has no trade-in value( word is out on these cars) and cannot afford another automobile without a descent trade-in. I am stuck with this Ford lemon. . . . Can you not contact me via e-mail and at least let me know that you have received my complaint? I would deeply appreciate it and I would do it for you. No one deserves this trouble and no deserves to lose the time and money I have invested in this automobile. Please, please help. Thank you.

10 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 1999 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/23/2001

Started making vibration sounds( thought was road noise). Vibration became louder and I took it to trusted mechanic at aamco who told me that the Ford car I bought had problems with that particular transmission and that an expensive fluid called merchron 5(very expensive fluid) was to be put into them. This didnot work as my torque convertor needed replacing. The gentleman at aamco called an out of area Ford dealer and told them that the mileage was too low and the car to expensive for these kind of troubles. This dealer replaced torque convertor under warranty, but it is doing it again. As you can see, the mileage at which it was first repaired (37000) until now(48000), only means that I will continue to have this problem every 10 or 11k miles. This was my first major problem but in the past, this car has shut down completely, not registered any oil and because it is a southern comfort limited edition model it has a tv-vcr combo that worked for a few months and it went out. I have yet to find a repair person for this problem. Ford knew of this transmission problem and tried to cover it up. I do not wish to continue traveling long distances to find an honest Ford repair dealership when this car is nothing but a lemon. Thank you for your time and any help you might give me. Ford is ripping off thousands of consumers( they are on the internet) and they should be stopped and put completely out of business!.
