On christmas eve 2019 I left church service at 8:30 p. M. My 3 small boys and I had been in our 2013 Ford Expedition el about 10 minutes. It was 28 degrees out. We had just passed through a small town and were on a highway by ourselves when I thought I heard a scratchy speaker and turned my radio down. Within a minute there was a loud explosion. I was driving between 50 and 55 mph driving straight forward on a smooth highway. One of my sons screamed and asked if we blew a tire which I quickly ruled out because air pressure signals were fine and no pulling on my wheel. I figured a deer ran into our vehicle because it happens here in the midwest. After a few more minutes of driving I heard tiny pieces of glass flying off the top of the vehicle and then it hit me that the sunroof exploded. I remember reading the article in my consumer reports about this happening across the us but never in a million years thought it would happen to my older vehicle. When I checked it over at home the glass had actually bubbled up an area in the center and blew that area out. It was about a 10" by 5" area that blew out and the rest all cracked but didnt shatter. I ended up getting a recycled piece of glass from a salvage yard and had a glass place replace it for a total of $200 - when I was quoted $1,000 - 1,200 to replace the whole glass through Ford and a new seal.

The sunroof exploded while parked. The visor was closed so glass did not enter the car. The car was purchased new, and has 15,000 miles on it. The sunroof glass had expanded outwards, as seen in the picture, and did not have any cracks due to impacts prior to the glass failure.

I was stopped at a red light, and all of a sudden I heard this loud crash and bang, and was jerked forward. Thought the pick up truck behind me rear-ended me. That driver pulled up aside of me and told me you just dropped your driveshaft. Since it was dark and my vehicle was in the middle of the road at an intersection I called the police. When they arrived they told me we can't wait for your tow truck driver to get here, it's to dangerous, so they called another towing company. Well after a long hassle and the 1st tow of $150. 00, I got my vehicle towed to my house. After making several phone calls I finally got it towed to the repair shop on 7/8/13 and had to pay another tow of $75. 00. Finally got the call on 7/10/13 what had happened to my rotted out Expedition, all 4 control arms where rusted out, 2 of them actually bent and broke, damaging my driveshaft. Costing me another $559. 14 for the repair. That's only fixing the 2 lower control arms. They have to find the 2 upper and replace them. Which will be at least another $350. 00 this isn't even mentioning the $1,000. 00 I spent on the rusted out rotted radiator brackets not even a year ago. I was told and expect rust but this is very dangerous, and also told Ford could have coated this parts or made them stronger to avoid these serious rust problems. Luckily I only got muscle spasms in my back, shoulder, and lower neck from this. But I don"t feel safe driving this vehicle any more. This is my last Ford I will ever purchase again !!!!!!!!!! Ford = found on roadside dead !!! this story is also shortened but the truth of what happened, I didn't mention the heat, the asthma attack I had, and the hassle I went through while all this occurred.

While driving my vehicle, several times, it stalled. It began to stall every few months. It later stalled weekly and later daily. Each time, the check engine light appeared (it did not appear each and every time), I would have it checked by a mechanic. I always got the p0231 error code. I have had my fuel pump, fuel relay, fuel filters, transmission and several other things replaced. None of the previous listed repairs fixed the issue. Recently on 09/07/2015, I was driving 35 mph. My vehicle stalled on a train track. It did not start right away. After several attempts, I was able to get it going for a few seconds, long enough to move it. I was terrified. It has been parked ever since. My mechanic willingly did a house call and explained the real issue. He stated that the issue was a faulty fuse box located in the kick panel of the passenger side. He stated that if I get it repaired, it is just a matter of time before it happens again, due to the faulty design of the windshield and the location of the box. He also stated that if I get it replaced, I would need to get it from the dealer. Replacing it is very expensive due to the manufacturer selling the whole assembly to include fuses and relays. I am not sure how far this complaint would go, but it's worth complaining about.

Own a 2008 king ranch Ford Expedition el, complained from the beginning that windows were slow to open and close. The windows would freeze shut. They eventually changed the window tracks, but didn't seem to help. Now the windows get stuck in the down or half up position, especially when the temp is cold. I pushed to have them change the window motor, but would not. Now that it is out of warrenty. . . They want to replace the window motors!!!! I see this as a huge safety issue. If I would need to roll down my windows to escape in the winter. . . I would be unable to do so. My husband, son and dogs were in montana with blinding snow and freezing temps. . . With the window stuck in the half up position. They had to pull the window up with there hands.

Cable holding spare under carrier tore allowing tire to hit my car and almost hitting car.
Retaining cable that holds spare tire snug against undercarriage failed in apparent overload; cable was separated at point where it attached to metallic end keeper, and where it passes thru crosspiece that applies pressure to tire rim. Crank mechanism which jack handle attaches to and is used to raise/lower spare tire from its position under the vehicle, is supposed to (according to owner's manual) "ratchet" when tire is snugged against undercarriage, and "it is impossible to overtighten. " suspect ratcheting mechanism not functioning properly, allowing excessive pressure to be applied to cable, precipitating failure---or cable is sub-standard. No signs of rust/corrision. Ire and rim. Dealer had replaced spare tire 10/2001 during tire recall/replacement, otherwise, the mechanish had never been used. Of great importance: there is no redundancy in system; it is a single-point failure. If cable fails, tire could fall directly onto roadway into on-coming traffic, or cause driver to lose control if it wedges under vehicle and roadway.

While wife was driving on road noticed spare tire had fallen of vehicle. Then, found out that steel cable broke without any signs of rust.
The cable holding the spare tire snapped and the tire fell. This happened while I was driving slowly in a pasture but I make many trips thru chicago on the interstate. I wonder if this is a flawed design or if there is something I can do to insure this won't happen again in traffic. I don't know how to find out if this is a frequent occurrence.
Consumer was driving 50 mph when spare tire was rolling down the highway. Cable that holds spare tire under the vehicle had snapped.
Cable separated from bolt and spare tire fell off in the middle of the road while I was driving. Could have been a major problem if it occured on the freeway or a major roadway. Lucky that the problem occured on a side street.
The cable holding the spare tire under the chasis aparrently snapped, thereby releasing the spare onto the roadway. The tire crossed two lanes of traffic and ended up on the sidewalk. This could have been catostrophic had it hit another vehicle or a pedestrian!!.
Under cable mount for the spare tire broke while driving, causing spare to fall. Dealer has been contacted.
