My brake went to the floor when I started to drive my vehicle last week. I was going to Ave my bakes replaced today when the mechanic noticed that the lower control arms were very rusted it has pieces breaking off and there is actually a hole in the rear driver side lower control arm. The metal brake lines is also rusted in two. He looked at my 1998 expidition and the lower control arms on the back of it are also rusted out. He saididn't I should not drive either of them until they are replaced. I'm wondering if there is a recall on these.

Rear upper and lower control arms completely rusted out, resulting a dangerous driving situation. I have vehicle serviced regularly at a Ford dealer and was never informed of such a hazard. While driving, heard a loud noise and felt a bad jerk, rear-end just fell down. Had severe medical issues as result. Ford needs to alert consumers of this problem and implement a recall, before a fatal occurs.

Ford Expedition 5. 4l 2001 - sudden brake failure while traveling 25 mph in parking lot. Brake lines rusted through caused sudden brake failure. Car had undercarriage cleaning frequently during winter months and there was no indication of any problems. When replacing the brake lines, owner was informed that the upper and lower rear control arms were rusted through as well and that immediate replacement was necessary to avoid the rear track arm failure which which results in dropping the rear axle and complete loss of vehicle control. Vehicle was purchased new in June 2001 and maintained continuously. Owner has possession of corroded control arms after repair for evidence in NHTSA investigation. Nhtsa is encouraged to contact the owner of vehicle for inspection of failed parts for investigative support. . This is a manufacturers defect and vehicles need to be recalled and parts replaced to avoid loss of vehicle control, accidents, injury and fatalities due to Ford motor company negligence.
The rear lower and upper control arms have rust holes and or completely rusted through. This is obviously a very big problem with all Expeditions around the same years. Complaints from hundreds if not thousands of owners on forums have the same issue. This will cause a crash and or fatalities if not corrected or found before it is too late. I found mine to be very rusty with holes and also one rusted all the way through after a 400 mile highway trip with my family. This is something that Ford should step up to the plate and recall and fix for Ford owners. This is a reported problem and needs to be repaired by Ford ASAP.

As I was examining the rear brake pads on my truck, I noticed that there was a a hole in the right rear lower control arm. Further examination showed that the protective coating on the control arm had not only failed but was holding moisture and salt against the metal of the control arm. Therefore this lower control arm is also quite thin in one specific area and appears to be in danger of imminent failure. Likewise I found a hole and thin sound metal on the left rear lower control arm. If driven, this vehicle could easily have a major loss of control and a catastrophic accident with loss of lives. I consider this to be a manufacturing defect because the coating that was designed to protect this vulnerable part has actually hastened its failure.
During inspection it was noticed that the upper and lower rear control arms were rusted through and unsafe. Had them replaced including the rusted through shocks. Hood and roof paint shows serious paint peeling and bubbling.

When making a right turn onto a high-traffic, four-lane surface street, both rear lower control arms failed under acceleration. This failure caused the rear axle to twist, the rear differential to shift position, and for the drive shaft u-joints to bind. The result was an effective loss of power and an in inability to accelerate to match traffic flow. Several vehicles had to brake hard or swerve into the adjacent lane to avoid the obstruction my vehicle created.

We have a 2000 Ford eddie bauer Expedition with 111,000 miles. We purchased new &it has been garaged kept & always washed at the car wash after a snow storm. Took the truck for inspection on 8/15/11 and was told by the mechanic to stop driving the vehicle immediately due to failure of the lower control arms. We where advised if the control arms broke a serious accident could occur, especially @ highway speeds. The upper control arms are beginning to show signs of chipping of the powder coating which will more than likely lead to premature failure. We have researched this issue on line & found that there are others who are also experiencing the same issue with the rusting of the lower control arms. The truck is now sitting in our garage & we are waiting for delivery of the both the lower & upper control arms. Seems like there is some sort of rust issues w/ them for those of us who live in the snow belt region.

The lower control arms on the rear suspention have excessive rust and they break off with engine torgue or throttle. The drive shaft breaks off when the rear axle rotates and this locks up the rear axle, and also snaps the emergency brake cable. The damages are up to 3500. 00 dollars and climbing. This is happening on all vehicles where the new road salt is used in excess. This should be a major recall.
The trailing arms/lower control arms on my 2000 Ford Expedition had rusted through & had to be replaced. I could not wait for them to fail given the hazardous nature of this defect. These parts should not have been made so poorly.
My lower rear control arms that attach to the rear axle frame rusted and failed on both sides, causing me to lose control of vehicle. No injuries. It was a catastrophic failure. My neighbors 97 Expedition had the same problem 2 months earlier. His friends 98 Expedition also had this problem, resulting in damage to his vehicle. Junk yards and Ford dealership said this is a very common problem, but no recall as of yet.

2000 Ford Expedition 4x4. Rear lower trailing arms or ( control arms ). Problem occurs when the powder coating flakes off exposing the bare metal. Control arms rust through and break in half. When this happens total loss of control can happen. Ford states they never had any complaints.

Front wheel control arm sheared off. Consumer noticed a rattle. This hooks sway bar to lower control arm. Contacted dealer who stated there were no recalls. Ford stated warranty expired.
I have had a problem with noise coming from the right rear of the Expedition since we started leasing it on 3/30/00. I have taken the truck in numerous times lettng them know the noise was still there. I either was told nothing was found. Well, eventually things started to go wrong with it. Ball joint, blow out tire and ext. I have taken the truck in to candy Ford over this issue over 6 times and nothing has been done. I recently took it in to goodyear to check the tires on it to see what was wrong with ith and they said the right rear axle was bent. So I have contacted candy Ford again and they have the truck know looking at it. I would like to know how these dealers can sell you or lease you something with it have been damaged without informing you of this before sale is complete. I fell this dealer ship has put my family in sever danger by allowing me and my family to drive around in this vechile. I do not feel that I'm safe driving this vechile no matter the work they might do to it. There have been to many things that have gone wrong with it and still going wrong with it.
There is an excessive play in the control arm. Driver hears a grinding noise everytime the steering wheel is turned to the left or right during any type of weather or speed.
Replaced front sway bar and stabilizer. Front end squeals when holding steering wheel.
Excessive suspension problems. Cross member bolts for proper torque were not tight and the cross member and lower control arm bolts were out of the torque specs.
