3 Sway Bar problem of the 2000 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 02/03/2004

2000 Ford Expedition anti sway bar link broken on left side. The sway bar is now hanging loose on that side. My boyfriend heard popping noises coming from the left front side and found the anti sway bar broken loose. He hit a puddle at about 45 mph and nearly lost control of the vehicle.

4 Sway Bar problem of the 1997 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/31/2003

The truck abruptly pulled to the right while driving at 35 mph. Also, when this occurred there was a rattling noise from the front wheel. It sounded like something was loose. The truck pulled to the right with such force that it resulted in the truck hitting a curb and damaging the tire and rim. The mechanic indicated this could of been caused by a failure in the sway bar.

5 Sway Bar problem of the 1999 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/01/2002

"sway bar bolts" that connect wheel to frame are missing on both driver and passenger front wheels. Consumer heard noise with tires and inspected vehicle.

6 Sway Bar problem of the 1997 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/17/2002

Both bolts on sway bar support bracket were stripped. Manufacturer was notified. Feel free to provide any further information.

7 Sway Bar problem of the 1998 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/05/2002

While changing the oil sway bar didn't have any rubber seals attached. Rubber seal was attached to the a frame but not the sway bar. Dealer was not notified. Please add more information.

8 Sway Bar problem of the 1998 Ford Expedition

Sway bar links broken. Vehicle difficult to control, especially at highway speeds and in strong winds. This vehicle has not been off-road, nor has it been subjected to any unusual impacts. There are other similar incident reports on this site, and many reports of the same problem on web forums on the internet. Given mileage and use, this does not seem like a normal failure, and the number of incidents seems to be growing.

There was a noise coming from underneath vehicle. Consumer looked underneath, and noticed that left sway bar was broken. Dealership was aware of problem.

Upon looking under vehicle noticed sway bar links broke, and vehicle swayed alot. Consumer has contacted Ford. Please provide any further information.

12 Sway Bar problem of the 1997 Ford Expedition

Consumer was having a problem with sway bar. Sway bar has bolts on each side broke. Nothing was holding sway bar in place. Contacted dealer, and dealer was not willing to do anything. A local repair shop found the front end high speed anti sway bar links were completely missing.

Expedition failed inspection due to both sway bar links broken. Checked with Ford and there were no recalls on Expedition for this problem.

Drivers side sway bar link hanging, the passenger side link is missing completely, replace sway bar link and lube sway bar bushing.

Both sway bar end links failed-- right in 3/01 and the left just failed in 8/01. Handling goes bad with excess front body roll. Design is poor with a single long bolt that is over stressed and corrodes, then fails. It is not easy for the average consumer to even detect that it happened unless you get under the car and look.

The bolts that hold the sway bar in place on the front of my 1997 Ford Expedition broke off completely. Had I been driving on a freeway or around a corner I feel that I would have lost control of my vehicle. I have contacted my Ford dealer for repairs.

18 Sway Bar problem of the 1998 Ford Expedition

Bolt in sway bar/ stablizer bar feel off, causing consumer to lose control when making sharp turns. The left stabilizer link which broke while in motion, and the right stabilizer which was worn out were both replaced.

Right rear sway bar bushing failed, failure was noticed while towing a boat. Vehicle bounced and lost control. Swerved upon making left hand turn and hit a guardrail.
