3 Suspension problem of the 2024 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/16/2025

The differential came apart while my family and I were traveling on the highway out of town. This cause the vehicle to start violently jolting and wheels locked up. The vehicle began to skid across the center line into on coming traffic, we were almost hit head on and from behind due to this. My husband couldn’t get the vehicle to move, it was making a grinding and screeching noise. Finally, he got it into 4x4 mode and was able to move the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. This was a very traumatic and terrifying experience for my whole family, we literally thought we were doing to die. Not to mention, there was no indication or warning that notified us on the dashboard. Since we were 100 miles from home, I had to have my vehicle towed, partially at my expense to the closest Ford dealership in California, which was still 40 miles from my home. The service department confirmed it was the differential, it took almost two weeks to get the part and to fix it. Since, my vehicle was practically brand new and only had 2000 miles on it, the repair was covered under warranty. I contacted Ford customer service and notified them of what happened. I requested them to buy back the vehicle, however they declined. Now I am stuck with a brand new $75,000 vehicle with only 2150 miles on it, that I do not feel safe driving my family in. If one major issue has already happened, then the probability of something else major happening is pretty good. I’m extremely disappointed in Ford for not standing by their vehicles.

7 Suspension problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 09/19/2024

Front struts faulty. Drivers side blew and all the fluid leaked out and the passenger side was leaking. Unknown safety issue but the vehicle only has 42,000 miles and has never been off road. Still has original tires, shouldn’t struts last longer than tires? the problem was confirmed by my local Ford dealer. I paid $1467. 72 to have them replaced which is ridiculous for a vehicle with such low mileage. In my research I have found that this may be a widespread problem but there has been no recall. No warnings.

10 Suspension problem of the 2006 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 01/08/2024

The service engine light continues to turn on. The timing belt continues to fail and has already been replaced once. The camshaft on both sides have been replaced. The solenoids have also been replaced and the diagnostics codes still pop up (p0022) (p0021) are just some that I can remember. The engine does not have enough power on the driver side and throws the timing belt off which causes the loud rattle coming from the engine. When reaching the speed of 40-45 mph the truck begins to shake. Recently in November 2023, when fueling up with gas , the truck began to shake and not respond. When accelerating, the truck takes off very slowly and the gears dont kick in on time. When the gas light comes on , the truck begins to function well. But as soon as I put gas again. It feels like the truck is going to fall apart. The driver door gets stuck when trying to open from the inside. The back door on the left does not open from the outside. The gear handle can be moved up and down while the truck is not turned on. Please help!!.

11 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/06/2023

For months now I have noticed a significant increase in the handling of my car to the point it is erratic and almost hard to drive, I have had my alignment looked at and have also seen that the inside of my rear tires is wearing more than the others as told to me in service reports for my car. A recall was put out for my vehicle which seems to be affected by almost every single recall but it says my car is not affected by this one. Which is the rear suspension toe link fasteners may not have been properly tightened to the frame, possibly allowing separation from the frame and tighten the rear toe link fasteners, check and adjust the rear toe alignment, and inspect the rear tires for abnormal tire wear, replacing them if necessary. I think if anyone else has had similar issues this recall needs to be expanded to other vehicles.

12 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/06/2023

All 4 struts and shocks are leaking. The vehicle has less than 30,000 miles. This is dangerous and will cause tire issues, stopping issues and more. A quick google search shows this exists on many Expeditions. Diagnosed by mechanic during annual inspection. The parts are bad and others have reported the same issue at less than 10000 miles. Many states don’t require inspections so how many are out there with bad suspension?.

13 Suspension problem of the 2023 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 09/03/2023

I crunk my 2023 Ford Expedition up yesterday so the ac would run and it wouldn’t be so hot. I pressed the break, and the start button and simply crunk it up, I then got the keys out of the vehicle so I could unlock my house. When I walked back outside my truck had rolled backwards and hit my house. The vehicle was in park. Now I have to fix my house and my truck and all of this is something that should have never happened and is extremely scary and dangerous. Thankfully I got into my house before it hit it because I may not have been so lucky considering my vehicle was to my back and could’ve easily rolled over me if it had started rolling sooner than it did.

14 Suspension problem of the 2023 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

Unknown. Lots of vibration issues through the body and steering wheel shimmy. Whole cabin harmonic vibrations put new tires on and road force balanced. Still having issues. Truck veers left and right without input when going over bumps. Steering wheel shimmy’s left and right when going over bumps. Transmission seems to lock up and release while going over bumps while stopping.

15 Suspension problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/07/2023

All 4 struts failed at approximately 46,000 miles. It is available for inspection upon request but for safety reasons I will have it fixed as soon as possible. It had been riding rough for a while and started sending my children flying around the backseat particularly the third row and grew much louder and jostling with every bump in the road. Last oil change at 43,000 miles it was recommended to replace rear struts due to leaking but I was waiting for a second opinion. When I took it in for an alignment after new tires were put on I made no mention of this to see what they said and sure enough all 4 struts were leaking and needed replaced as soon as possible at 46,000 miles. No warning lamps or messages. Problems first appeared around July 2022 and progressively got worse.

16 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 01/10/2023

Both rear shocks leaked oil at 37k causing vehicle to become very bouncy and unsafe to drive/control.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that upon purchase of the vehicle, the rear driver side strut was replaced. Recently, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a routine maintenance check; while there, the contact was informed that both the passenger rear and driver front struts had been saturated with oil. The right front strut had also started to leak but was not saturated in oil. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and the contact was given a case number. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA hotline for further assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 25,870.

18 Suspension problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/17/2022

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the vehicle started bouncing without warning. The contact stated that after several seconds, the vehicle stopped bouncing. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the front shocks were leaking, and that both front shocks needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 17,000.

19 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 10/21/2022

All four struts are leaking and causing erratic handling when rough roads are encountered. Ford has known of this problem for several years and refuses to replace after their base warranty, even though I have a full coverage extended warranty. If a consumer doesn't realize they have a defective suspension it could lead to their death. Ford has a service bulletin out on this problem. - strut, yes -yes -yes -yes -no, leakage of oil on garage floor.

20 Suspension problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 10/11/2022

At approximately 30,000 the vehicle's suspension failed, leading to a very rough ride like a boat hitting waves, and at speed affects the ability to control the vehicle. The Ford dealer advised that all shocks needed replacing. The problem developed gradually over about six months. These or the original shocks on the vehicle, and their early failure is a defect and safety concern.

21 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 09/15/2022

Rear struts failed at approximately 36, 000 miles - the vehicle was unsafe driving down the interstate at speed due to the bouncing. Independent mechanic confirmed rear strut failure on driver and passenger side. Additionally, front driver side strut failed. In addition to bouncing, this made rear brakes wear out unusually quick. Steering became light due to the front strut. There was no warning lights to indicate an issue. Took to independent mechanic due to unavailability of maintenance appointments at Ford.

22 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 09/01/2022

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that he had noticed oil leaks on his garage floor. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where he was informed that all four of the struts on the vehicle had leaked oil and needed to be replaced. The service advisor also informed him that the warranty provider was contacted and informed the dealer that the cost of the repair would not be covered. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but was not offered any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 59,584.

23 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 08/01/2022

With approximately 42,600 miles on 2019 Expedition, two Ford service centers diagnosed the vehicle control issue as suspension related. Specifically, loss of vehicle control due to shocks. Upon inspection by Ford, shocks were found to be leaking and not providing adequate suspension. Two separate Ford service centers advised replacement of all four shocks. Wife had been complaining about this for a month or more (June/July 2022). I didn’t believe her until weeks later I drove her car and two Ford service centers conforming all shocks needed replacement. I just could not believe at 42,000 miles all shocks needed replacement nor could Ford service center. Nor could I believe the severity of control. I experienced loss of control similar to a bucking horse with my head hitting the interior roof of the Expedition. My hands, both, were suddenly off the steering wheel due to up and forward bucking. I was able to slow the Expedition down by braking and regaining the steering wheel. I was luckily. Speed was below 45 mph. No warning lights or voice occurred. This occurred in August 2022.

24 Suspension problem of the 2016 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/01/2022

The car is less than 6 year old and was driven less than 20,000 miles, no accidents and never off road. Left rear shock was leaking and so was the left rear axle seal, I could not tell how much differential oil was leaked out, but there is quite a lot. I feel that there could be a serious safety concern.

25 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/07/2022

This vehicle has only 10300 miles and never driven off road and the struts have failed. An independent garage confirmed the drivers side front strut is leaking and both rear. My Ford dealer stated they would replace the front and one rear under warranty but the second rear strut is leaking within Ford's "tolerances". This is just Ford's way of avoiding a warranty claim and hoping the bad leaking doesn't start until after the customer's warranty expires so they can reap thousands of dollars in repair revenue. I was also told by the Ford dealership that the fomoco replacement struts often arrive at the dealership leaking and they would not call me in for an appointment to replace until they have confirmed they received replacement struts that are not defective. My research shows this is a common problem with this vehicle and the NHTSA should investigate and force a recall since failed struts can cause a serious accident.

26 Suspension problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/11/2022

Left front strut leaked and back two struts provide very minimal dampening, which combined created a dangerous situation when banking on the interstate and hitting minimal bumps. When on the interstate at 65-70mph, if any bumps (e. G. , bridge/overpass joints) are driven over the truck bounces wildly 5-8 times and the body twists, making it feel as though the truck is on the limit of controllability.

27 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/15/2022

The vehicle only has 38k miles on it and all 4 struts have failed. This is apparently a very common problem for Ford. This creates control issues and an unsafe ride. I had the vehicle in for a different recall and the Ford dealership confirmed all 4 are leaking and need to be replaced, but Ford will not cover them.

28 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the local dealer for maintenance service and he was informed that the rear passenger’s side strut was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, he heard an abnormal sound coming from the front of the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle back to the local dealer and the vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the front passenger’s side strut needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 24,195.

29 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 02/04/2022

Both the driver side and passenger side front struts have leaked oil and failed. The driver side occurred after 33,000 miles and the passenger side at 45,000 miles.

30 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 02/01/2022

Transmission and shifting problems under 70,000 miles. Also the ac compressor and blower has gone out.

31 Suspension problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 01/11/2022

All four shocks leaking at 29000 miles. Replaced under warranty. Now at 35000 rear shocks starting to leak.

32 Suspension problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/06/2021

Left front strut was leaking at 7000, was replaced by Ford. 12/6/2, the SUV has 27,800 miles and the same strut is leaking again. The car is been only drive on city roads and freeway. I can see many people are complaining about the same issue.

33 Suspension problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 10/15/2021

Vehicle has less that 40,000 miles on it. It has become almost uncontrollable if you hit any rough spots on the road. During the last oil change it was noted the rear shocks and struts were bad as well as the front struts. This is far to early for a vehicle to have these issues. It has never been off-road and only towed a small trailer one time.

34 Suspension problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 10/15/2021

When I drove a little bit uneven highway overpass about 50mph with family, three teenagers and my wife, I saw the rear bounces back a lot, almost lost control of the vehicle. Next day, I took it to local Ford service and they say the rear structs and shocks were completely worn out, and need to be replaced. It has only highway mileage of only just over 20,000miles. Actually they were talking about leaking of oil through the seals and technician showed all four struts were leaking, rears much worse. The vehicle just passed 3 year warranty period by two months, and technician suggested the leakage had been there long before the factory warranty expired. So disappointed with Ford. This was my first Ford and will be the last.

35 Suspension problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 09/28/2021

We have put roughly 20,000 miles on this vehicle and were putting new tires on, when the technician showed me that all four struts were leaking. This vehicle is not driven excessively, it is primarily for short trips around the city and is not used in heavy traffic. A quick search identifies that this is a known issue, with multiple people identifying there concern. There are multiple several complaints on the NHTSA website. So after paying out of pocket, I called Ford to see if they would offer reimbursement. I received a call back from an extremely rude individual informing me that Ford will not reimburse me because there are no active recalls. After I explained that there are multiple complaints about this same issue she stated that Ford does not issue recalls and only the NHTSA will do that. Therefore, I am requesting the NHTSA look into this issue.
