36 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/25/2025

I originally leased and have since purchased this vehicle. Since owning the vehicle, it sometimes has a harsh shift between gears. It is so harsh that I have mentioned it to at least two different Ford dealerships during the transmission warranry period. No remedy was provided at the time. The car has continued to have shifting issues and now the car will pop out of gear while driving, which is a major safety issue. We informed a Ford dealership about this experience and they are now telling us we need a new transmission as they found metal in the transmission fluid. The transmission warranty just expired and there is a NHTSA bulletin about this very issue and there is an open recall on the power module for this car. Items for review: technical service bulletin 10r80 active recall campaign 24e13 documented issue at tom masano Ford on 12/02/2021 documented issue at fred beans exton Ford on 4/26/2022 documented issue at tom masano on 8/5/2025.

37 Power Train problem of the 2012 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/24/2025

I just purchased (2 months ago) a 2012 Ford Expedition el 5. 4l v8 from a private party. I wish I would have done more research as I am already experiencing transmission issues that I believe are directly related to the vehicles lead frame recall. It threw a p0742 code on me torque converter clutch circuit stuck on and decided that it would only drive in limp mode unless I cleared the code, pulled over, cycles the key, and restarted the vehicle. Even as dangerous as this unexpected shifting into 1st gear at highway speeds is, it is equally as dangerous to be getting out of your vehicle in moving traffic due to Ford's terrible design on this vehicles power train/transmission system. I have scheduled an appointment with the local Ford dealer and al certain I'll get the runaround/blame game for this one. 150k miles and as I said, I have owned it for 2 months and have already had transmission issues, brake issues, belt tensioner pulley literally fell off. . And from what I read, what's next??? the cam phasers?? that's if the transmission issue is even fixed and it becomes safely drive able again. Come on Ford, get your act together, you're better than this!.

38 Power Train problem of the 2012 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/24/2025

Campaign 19n01 description transmission molded leadframe extended coverage next steps contact your dealer for next steps. Did this and was told that the vehicle was not covered due to it being after 10 years and barely over 150,000 miles. I am experiencing transmission issues where the torque converter clutch is now stuck on and the lead frame is more than likely the cause. Thanks Ford, never again.

The manufacturer was notified on the failure and transferred the contact to NHTSA to file a complaint. The approximate failure mileage was 127,000.

44 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/11/2025

I was driving and felt a clunk in transmission and lost power and almost got rear ended. The wrench light came on so I pulled over and turned off the vehicle. I restarted and it ran fine but the transmission is dangerous, I don't want that to happen again. The transmission constantly hard shifts. This was at 2am in the morning when I was driving from FL to MD.

45 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/11/2025

Failure of transmission, leading to unsafe operation on roadway.

46 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/11/2025

Info sent to Ford in working with cust service w/o action: our 2020 Expedition had 4 separate instances of slipping out of gear during a road trip (2 instances on 7/11 and 2 on 7/19). During each incident, the vehicle slipped gear at highway speed, rpms maxed out on the dial, lost all acceleration and significant speed, and the vehicle remained unresponsive for several (3-5) seconds until finally accelerating after the unresponsive period. It goes without saying that completely losing gear at highway speed while navigating traffic is a serious life and safety issue. Having that occur four times on a single round trip presents unreasonable risk. We documented the mileage and engine conditions by taking a picture of the dash after recovering from each occurrence. Those details were shared with the krieger Ford service center on 7/22. That Ford service team was not able to recover fault codes from this information. Without being able to identify a root cause based on lack of fault codes, Ford service performed a transmission relearn on 7/22. The service team confirmed this step is an initial measure due to lack of codes and not being able to see inside the sealed transmission. Abandoning further assessment in favor of a potential but unlikely quick-fix may be appropriate with an inconvenience issue, but not acceptable on one with such serious consequences. I recognize that further assessment will require additional cost. The assessment cost relative to the risk associated with not properly addressing the root cause of this dangerous issue is clearly justified. I’ve previously communicated this same situation to Ford when it occurred on a road trip in July of 2024. We contacted the dealership (germain Ford of dublin) and were deferred multiple months due to Ford's transmission tech backlog. The codes were not available by the time a service appointment was open. Without error codes and a single occurrence at that time, Ford service was unable to investigate further.

47 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/07/2025

Transmission has completely failed at 68,000 miles and 4 years old. Ford is willing to cover cost of the tramission with a “partial good faith” agreement but the dealership who provides the service is charging $5,656 to put in new transmission. This is a widely known transmission problem with safety issues with multiple service bulletins. They are passing the issue onto the consumer instead of recalling. Shameful.

49 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/01/2025

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle briefly hesitated and failed to properly shift into gear. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 99,500.

50 Power Train problem of the 2013 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/01/2025

This has been a great vehicle. We were going down a road around 60 mph and with no warning or symptom the car downshifted from 6th to 1st gear. This caused the rear end to lock up causing the tires to squeal and spin the car around sideways in the road. Luckily nothing was coming. This could have easily been a deadly accident if something was coming. The dealer has said the lead frame was bad a needed to be replaced. They have quoted $1,200. The vehicle only has 117,000 miles on it and it still under the mileage for the extended coverage but not the years. There are tons of vehicles with this transmission and lead frame on the road, this is a major safety issue that should be addressed. A check engine light or no other warnings have ever come on. Having these lead frames out there are just an accident waiting to happen. Luckily, ther was no one coming when mine decided to fail.

52 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/30/2025

I noticed that the car would make a clunking noise changing drive to reverse (vice versa) and had informed the dealership upon getting car checked up for cold start rattle issues that sounded like stemming from cam phaser. Dealer didn't comment on it. Over time, I felt it getting worse. Now at about 51,400 on my drive home on the freeway close to my exit, luckily, I felt the car vibrantly shaking (during drive and slow down). After exiting the freeway, I noticed car (and steering wheel) shaking vibrantly when going 25 mph and over. After taking it to a local mechanic, they found that the driveshaft was about to come off missing a part.

53 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/28/2025

Was returning home from a drive on a freeway and noticed that car started shaking violently on right side rear of vehicle, like tires were loose, when I was close to the exit. Upon exiting freeway I noticed that vehicle at 20mph speeds+ (more noticeable at 25mph+) the car began shaking. Car shakes as well throughout braking. I took it to the tire shop to see if it was a tire issue or a balance issue, but the shop informed it wasn't a tire issue but possibly a cv related. Because I'm feeling the vibrations more from one side of vehicle, thinking it could be related to the toe link. Seeing car parked on driveway, it does seem to be leaning more to the right in the rear of the vehicle.

54 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/25/2025

The transmission shifts gears irregularly and has loss complete power when going up hill. This is a known issue with the 10 speed transmission but Ford has not corrected the issue that is impacting thousand of vehicles. This issue with the shifting happens everyday that I drive it.

55 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/20/2025

I was driving pulling off an exit incoming to a highway that needed me to speed up to catch a 65 mph traffic while I was going 35mph the car while on d for drive somehow engine rev went up to 5500 rpm no power to drive vehicle slow down to 30mph and all of the sudden a violent engine and all the body clunk as if another gear or park all of the sudden! tires stop spinning as you can hear tires screeching and this lasted a second and then transmission caught up again and started to accelerate again normally. We were almost hit from a moving truck behind us with 3 small kids in the car! this already happened 3 separate times while we are out traveling out of our hometown. 98 degrees outside dry conditions flat surface in florida got it all on dash camera on video and audio hope to get this fixed before someone gets killed!.

56 Power Train problem of the 2014 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/17/2025

While driving at highway speeds very quickly the speedometer went to 0 , the fuel low warning came on , the transmission locked up dragging the rear wheels and engine goes to high rpm , this has happened numerous times , I’ve checked with local Ford dealership and they tell me there are no updates for my vehicle , when this situation happens I pull over to the side of the road and shut vehicle off , count to ten and restart , drive away and wait for the next instance. I have read where earlier Ford products have had this same issue. One additional item on this unit , it has a sporadic 1. 5 amp drain that will kill the battery sometimes , very sporadic. Myself and two others have tried to find this drain but unsuccessfully , took to dealership and $500 later still same issue so I found a electronic battery shutoff with a key fob that disconnects the battery to prevent battery draw , but doing this prevents codes from storing , I have recently started leaving vehicle hooked up to automatic tricle charger to prevent battery from being drained so I can get codes stored up for dealership to troubleshoot at a cost to me off $150 to plug up and read codes. Does that come with lube or will that cost extra ?.

57 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/16/2025

Transmission 10r80 2017-2023 is prone to jerking, sudden power loss, complete failure, hard shifts and random downshifts. Ford knows that this issue exists but fails to issue a recall. The main issue is with the cdf drum. Ford came out with a new cdf drum in 2023 to remedy the issue. But fails to cover any costs to fix it. To get to the cdf drum a complete transmission tear down is required. Ford is involved in multiple class action lawsuits and has even issued a TSB (22-2428) but again, fails to cover any costs.

58 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/14/2025

The transmission is consistently hesitating to switch gears, very jerky gear shift, and will sometimes completely fall out of gear. You could so easily lose control if this happened on the highway. Thank goodness we weren’t on a busy street. This isn’t the first reporting according to a simple search online and there should be a recall for safety reasons. This could be life or death for someone driving on the highway.

59 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/14/2025

Transmission hesitated when entering traffic almost causing accident. This is not the first time this has happened. After the first incident I addressed the issue with the service manager. He said it’s common that this model transmission shifts rough, and has some hick ups but, nothing to worry about. It also randomly shifts into neutral randomly.

60 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/13/2025

Expedition with 60k miles needing timing chain, cam phasers, 4 camshafts, valves and rockers. This has been a on going issue with 3. 5 ecoboost engines. Ford needs a recall and reimbursement to owners for these costly repairs.

61 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/13/2025

Transmissions cdf drum is failing annd causing my transmission to go out of gear and slam into first and I just preformed “cam phaser” repairs exceeding $3400. A vehicle this new should not need these repairs. There’s 1000s of complaints online and it’s sick and twisted that Ford is not forced to recall these issues.

62 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/09/2025

My transmission started losing power on acceleration, hard jerk/bang when shifting into gear, transmission slipping, loss of power between shifts.

63 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/09/2025

We purchased the 2019 Ford Expedition limited from interstate Ford in miamisburg, OH, for $49,500 in 2023. The vehicle had roughly 47k miles on it at the time; it now has 69k. I started noticing that it was downshifting when I pulled out of my driveway and got about a block away from home shortly after our purchase. I reported this to the dealership several times, and they said they could not get it to replicate the problem. I explained that it was only happening when the engine was cold. Fast forward to June 2025, I was at the intersection one morning, and the vehicle would not move forward. Then it lurched forward suddenly, from that point, I started having more issues with 1st & 2nd gears. I took it to germain Ford in beavercreek, and they evaluated the issue and determined that I need a new transmission. This was submitted to Ford, and the replacement was approved, but it appears my extended warranty will have to cover the charges. I have noticed that several other people have reported the same issues with their 2019 models. Ford should cover this repair at no cost to us; that's just my opinion.

64 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/08/2025

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 40 mph and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as indented and started to decelerate unintendedly. The contact became aware of a rattling sound coming from underneath the vehicle. Several warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair under a recall; however, the contact was provided the cost for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified on the failure, and informed the contact that the vehicle was included in technical service bulletin: 22-2428 (automatic transmission - harsh-delayed engagement). The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

65 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/07/2025

The transmission has completely failed. My wife pulled out into traffic and it failed to engage.

66 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/06/2025

2 instances have occured while driving. Stored codes are p0562 charging system voltage low and p07e6 stuck in park (6/6/2025) and p07e6 stuck in park (7/12/2025). I believe the issue may be related to technical service bulletin - momentary neutral-out condition in drive - 23-2120 upon acceleration to pass a car, I heard a loud knock, lost power, let off the gas, an engine failure error flashed on my screen, regained power and was then able to accelerate again. The potential cost could be $5,600 and potentially higher due to labor. Ford's have been plagued by transmission issues year after year. How many vehicles need to be affected before a formal defect investigation focused on the 10r80 transmission can be made.

67 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/06/2025

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle went into limp mode with the maintenance warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

68 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/04/2025

I’ve owned my 2020 Ford Expedition for just over a year. Initially, the transmission performed flawlessly. However, over time I’ve noticed a few concerning issues: at low speeds, the transmission shifts very hard. While accelerating at interstate speeds, it feels like the transmission is slipping. When I shift the vehicle into gear, it makes a loud clicking or knocking sound.

69 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/02/2025

While attempting to accelerate and change lanes on the freeway, the vehicle unexpectedly slipped out of gear and appeared to shift into neutral. During this time, the gas pedal became completely unresponsive, leaving me unable to control the vehicle’s speed. Multiple warning lights and audible alerts activated briefly before disappearing. I released the gas pedal and attempted to accelerate again, at which point the vehicle re-engaged and resumed normal function. This issue first occurred approximately one month ago and has now happened two additional times. Each incident lasted several seconds during active freeway driving, creating a highly dangerous situation where I had no control over acceleration. This poses a serious safety risk, especially when merging or maneuvering in high-speed traffic. Although no accident has occurred yet, the potential for one is significant and deeply concerning.

70 Power Train problem of the 2018 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle jerked, and the transmission shifted hard. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred while driving on a busy highway. The contact and five minor children were inside the vehicle during the failure. The contact feared for her and her families safety. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with cdf drum failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be rebuilt or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
