Paint bubbling on the rear lift gate. This issue is related to contamination of the aluminum before painting. Ford is aware of this issue, but is ignoring it, claiming it is no longer covered under the warranty and or the warranty does not apply. There are many people having the same issue on hood and tailgate on multiple Ford models. Ford has issued a TSB: 17-0062 about this issue:. . Read more...

The aluminum tailgate/hatch shows signs of corrosion. Ford did cover it eventually after escalating it. However, other owners are reporting this issue on models 2000-2017.

I just bought this vehicle used. The paint on the tailgate of my truck has bubbled up in several locations and started to peel. After talking to the local dealership and the manufacturer, they stated that it's a cosmetic problem, not covered by the corrosion warranty. After much research, I have realized that this is a very common problem. I owned a similar make and model that was 9 years older and thought it was a limited issue. Unfortunately, the manufacturer knows they have an issue, but refuse to cover it. The body shop I contacted recommended following up on this because it's a very common problem due to paint not being applied to the aluminum correctly during production.
Our 2015 Ford Expedition with 20,000 miles in California has aluminum body corrosion on the front hood and rear tailgate door. Ford has known about this "iron contamination" problem since the year 2000 and has done nothing about it, documented in three technical service bulletins 2004 TSB 04-25-1, 2006 TSB 06-25-15 and 2016 TSB 16-0028. Dealerships are aware, but do not disclose the factory defect prior to sale and is "not" covered under the corrosion warranty.

Paint is bubbling on tailgate. Common problem. Ford dealer knows about it, Ford knows about it. Ford will not repair as there is no metal perforation. Aluminum tailgate is corroding under paint. This should not happen on a 3 -4 year old vehicle.
On looking at the rear tailgate I saw what looked like rust spots ( 4 in all ). The paint is bubbled to the point I think will break soon. When I took it to the dealer today (6/7/16) they said it was a big problem with Ford . The dealer gus johnson Ford spokane, wash said it is a Ford problem and not there's. I feel if I would of be told of this problem I would of never bought any Ford car. I feel this problem was keep from just to make a sale. We are going to look at other cars but surly not Fords.
Recently, the rear tailgate around the lift handle has become corroded and the paint is peeling. I keep the vehicle stored and rarely use it. I keep it in immaculate condition and very well maintained. This is the only blemish on it, but I can see it is getting worse and will eventually need to be repaired and repainted. I understand the is a problem with all Expeditions and believe Ford should be responsible for the repair since it appears to be a manufacturing defect.
Paint bubbling appears on real tailgate and edge of hood. Rust pin spots noticeable on door panels under clear coat.
Paint blistering/bubbling on aluminum hood and tailgate, Ford repainted saying it was totally repairable. Six months later it is back.

After only a little over 3 years the vehicle has developed corrosion and paint bubbling on the hood and tailgate. These body panels are aluminum and the problem is well known, although the manufacturer is very reluctant to resolve these problems.
The paint on my hood and tailgate is bubbling and peeling. I was told these parts are aluminum and the problem is being caused by improper preparation of the surfaces. Have any other Ford owners reported a similar problem ? Ford is not willing to do anything to correct this. I don't believe a 6 year old vehicle should have peeling paint.
The tailgate on my 2008 Ford Expedition el is bubbling and cracking where the lift gate is. I believe this to be a major defect in the way this model vehicle was built. I have seen numerous '08 el's with the same problem. It looks as if underneath the paint has sever rusting. This is definitely something that Ford needs to take responsibility for.
Paint started bubbling on tailgate at about 80,000 miles. Car was brought to dealer for inspection of the tailgate and issue was forwarded to Ford motor CO for approval under extended warranty. Approval was denied as the body panel was not yet visible under paint (as it was explained to me). At 95,000 miles (vehicle still covered under extended warranty) paint had flaked off and there was visible corrosion of the aluminum tailgate. Paint has also started flaking off the underside of the tailgate, under the lower lip, exposing the body panel beneath. Even with the exposed body panels and corrosion and oxidation of the aluminum tailgate coverage was still denied. This is an obvious issues with the workmanship or process used to apply paint to aluminum body panels as the paint on the rest of the vehicle is in very good condition.
Body corrosion of the aluminum hood and tailgate causing paint to bubble and peel off.
This is a used car we were going to buy at a reputable dealer's lot. Salesman assured us it had not been in an accident. Upon inspection by our mechanic, it was determined that this vehicle had extensive front end damage, being rebuilt with salvage parts and repainted, probably in mexico. The transmission needed costly repairs. It had also had the tailgate removed, possibly replaced, and the brake pedal was welded on.
Paint is blistering on aluminum hood and tailgate. A well known problem with Ford Expeditions.
Paint not adhering to rear tailgate. Door appears to be aluminum and not prepared properly. Faulty workmanship by Ford motor company. There needs to class action taken against Ford.

Paint is bubbling and peeling off hood and tailgate of 2005 Ford Expedition eddie bauer edition.
I have a 2006 Ford Expedition eddie bauer under 5 years old that the tailgate is severely blistered all over, paint has even popped off of it. There is also some on the hood. The local Ford dealership admitted that Ford had a problem with the blistering paint and told me how bad my vehicle was. They took pictures and sent to Ford. Ford rep denied it and I was told that even if holes appeared as a result now they would do nothing for me because they had already denied and only look at a claim for one thing one time. I pursued further by calling customer service and emailing them as well. The customer service rep also admitted there was a problem with paint blister but could do nothing for me because it had already been denied. I have owned Fords all of my life and even worked for a Lincoln Mercury dealership for several years. I am continuing to pursue this as far as I can and ask for any help that can be offered in this matter.

Ford Expedition paint. I purchased a new 2005 Ford Expedition eddie bauer edition in 5/2005 from a car dealer. The 36000/3 year warranty has expired and the paint is blistering on the tailgate. I called dealer and they said it is a manufacturing defect and they will not pay for it but it will do no good to fix it unless the entire tailgate is replaced with steel. There is a service bulletin out on this issue and they are not standing behind it.
