1 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2012 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

Vehicle randomly down shifting at high rate of speed causing rear tires to lock up. Same experiences as listed in April 27, 2016 recall notice. My vehicle was made in same manufactured plant but a few days out of the recall dates for vehicles. Transmission keeps slipping while in motion of vehicle. No accidents occurred but severe safety concerns at this point.

2 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/29/2017

Vehicle was traveling about 70 mph on the interstate. Pressed accelerator to pass a tractor trailer. The vehicle downshifted to pass (automatic transmission), but then downshifted all the way down to 1st gear on its own, which immediately revved the engine up to red line (5000 rpm) and caused the rear tires to start to slow to less than vehicle speed. As a result, the tires started smoking and caused the vehicle to skid sideways to the right off the road and down the embankment. Luckily, I was able to maintain some control of the vehicle down the grassy embankment and finally get the transmission slipped into neutral to regain control of the rear tires and narrowly avoid crashing. The only reason there was not a crash was due to that section of the interstate having a relatively shallow grassy downward embankment. 1000 feet in either direction of that interstate would have caused a multi-car accident. Once the vehicle was stopped, I was able to get it back into gear and drive it up to the shoulder of the interstate. I was able to get the vehicle safely back to my home. Once home, I was able to research that there is an existing Ford recall for this issue, but it is only on 2012 Expeditions and 2011-2012 Ford f-150s with the 6r80 transmission. My vehicle has the 6r75 transmission, which was the predecessor to the recalled one above.

5 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2007 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/12/2011

The first occurrence was the transmission slipping on acceleration and stopping or going up hill. Its been to our Ford dealer where we purchased it and at first they felt it and said they fixed it but now everytime I take it in for that or the ac blower going off and on they say they don't feel or see anything it gotten ridiculous. In the freeway I-10 me and my son were trying to accelerate on and almost got hit by a semi truck the vehicle would not go fast enough. I wont bother with the dealership here in town they don't care. It has happened many times and now the air bag light goes off and on in temperature change it seems like. Our dealer fixed the door handle but now any rain the inside of our door fills with water and they say its not there fault and wont fix that either. Very disappointed with Ford. Spoke to them about the air bag and they also say they wont fix. We have had nothing but problems with this 40000 SUV very dangerous to drive and its suppose to be a family vehicle. . . . Right we get no update or recalls info and our dealership is the worst I've ever dealt with.

6 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2010 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

Transmission severely slips when downshifting from overdrive. . . Only happens after driving for 2 or more hours. Have had it in 3 times, but dealer only would document it once. The first 2 times, they said the car was still breaking in and that it would settle in after a few more thousand miles. The 3rd time the dealer hooked up equipment and drove it for 5 min, returned and said no problem found. I filed complaint with Ford. They called dealer, called me back and said there was no problem. I have a $50k vehicle that can only be driven on short trips. It is very dangerous since it slips and then catches so badly that it feels like someone is literally running into the back of the vehicle. (basically the trans is slipping, but it is tearing up the u joints, and other components as it slips and catches) it would hit so hard when it catches that it would wake up the kids on our trip to FL (1100 miles each way) every time the cruise control would try to maintain speed on any incline. Looks like all the media around Ford finally having quality vehicles and having changed to a true customer service oriented company are false. If NHTSA can't assist, then once I can get it paid down enough to break even, I'll trade it in on a suburban or Toyota. I'm done with Ford. . . Don't take your chances, buy something else.

7 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2010 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/12/2011

I own a 2010 Ford Expedition v8 with 9000miles on it. I was pulling out into traffic making a left hand turn from a stop. While giving the truck gas the transmission started jumping gears and slipping while other vehicles slammed on their brakes. The truck has been into shop 9 times in 8 months for transmissions issues. The transmission issues have occurred several times and problem is not being addressed by the manufacturer. The transmission has been worked on several times and at this point I afraid to put my family in this truck.

When coming to a stop and trying to accelerate the vehicle stayed in a high gear and the engine revved. The vehicle accelerated in the wrong gear. The transmission slipped when driving with the vehicle full of passengers. He took the vehcile to the dealership on 02/07/07 which was the appointment date the dealership gave him, and the dealership took the vehicle for a test ride with the contact, and the service mechanic informed him that they were aware of the transmission problems on the 2007 Ford Expeditions, but they havd no remdey for the failure. The contact stated that during one incident he tried to accelerate after stopping in traffic and was concerned that another vehicle would hit him because the vehicle didn't accelorate properly. The contact noticed the problem with the transmisson slipping after driving the vehicle for twenty miles. He stated that he now had 1,600 miles on the vehcile, and felt that the manufacturer along with the dealership should have a solution for this safety problem . Updated 03/30/07.

9 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2005 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 01/03/2006

This 2005 Expedition has only 15k miles the transmission was slipping really hard I had to drive it to the dealer in gear 2. Once I arrived they told me it would take two weeks for them just to even look at it(only one trans tech) I called and found a dealer who could fix it faster. I tried to call Ford corp to see if they would tow my SUV 30-40 miles, but they told me they don't do dealer to dealer tows. I will never buy a Ford again, thank you for helping a customer im only 28 years old and this is my 5th and last Ford vehicle.

10 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2000 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/17/2005

Purchased 2000 Ford Expedition-new - at 33,000 the transmission started slipping from 1st-2nd. Took vehicle in to local dealer was rebuilt under warrenty. Took vehicle in at 58,000mi. For the 60,000 mile service (pre-empting a vacation road trip) while on the trip the transmission went completely out--only 25,000 miles on the re-built tranny. The vehicle had 3 children--1 with autism and the other a newborn. The vehicle had died in an intersection of an emergency room and busy street. I could only go in reverse in order to get out of the intersection leaving me stranded in a left turn lane. I tried all greers from low on up and tried to engage any of my 4x4 capabiliies without anything. The vehicle was pushed out the intersection and had to be towed to a dealership in that town visiting. It is still presently there coming up on 14 days. I was given a loner car by a family member in order to get back home with my fmaily. The dealership it is presently at has again rebuilt the tranny-free of charge-due to still being under a 3yr/36,000 mi. Warrenty that was placed on the 1st rebuilt tranny. Now I am told that almost everything inside the tranny was destroyed and was either rebuilt or replaced. Ford felt that is was still cheaper to rebuild instead of replacing with a new tranny. I am now given a 12mon/12,000mile warrenty on this 2nd rebuild. At this point, my autistic child is having problems with the thought of getting back in this vehicle (mind you I still don't have it yet), not alone the safety concerns I have with driving this vehicle. The safety of this vehicle is most definately a concern of me and my family. I don't trust this vehicle--what happens if it dies again and this time I am not so lucky in a major intersection !?.

13 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 1998 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/10/1999

I had a 1994 Ford econoline 150 custom van for a year and a half with approx 55,000 miles on it prior to getting this Expedition. The transmission on it also slipped while driving and was in and out of the shop too many times to count. The dealership was not ever able to "duplicate" the problem. So I traded it in on the Expedition. The first two weeks of owning the car it was in the shop for a broken door handle. Then the next week I had it in for the cd changer not working. The next month (month #2) I took it in because the front end shimmied when I pressed on the brake. The dealership turned the roaters. The next couple of weeks a tire began squealing and I took it into the dealership and they again turned the roaters and did a brake job this was in month #3. Now we are approaching month #4 and during the week of July 4th, 3 days in a row, while I was starting from a red light the transmission slipped. The rpm's went up but the car didn't go at first. As soon as I took my foot off the gas the transmission ingaged. I took it into the dealership the next week and they couldn't duplicate the problem. They did a transmission flush on it. On July 23rd while in downtown ft. Worth, TX, I was driving and needed to get over into another lane to turn onto the highway, so I accelerated, the transmission again slipped allowing the rpm's to go up almost to 5000, and the car was not going any faster. I quickly took my foot off the accelerator and it went into gear. I immediately called the dealership and have now taken it back in (7/29/99). They have called me and said they can't get it to duplicate the problem. I've known three other people who have had different Ford products, 2 had thunderbirds and the other has a 1999 f150 and they also have experienced transmission problems. This could be a real danger, especially if the car hesitates while changing lanes and there are cars coming up behind you. I do not blame the dealership, I blame Ford manufacturing.
