2 Transmission Noise problem of the 2006 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 07/21/2009

My car stalled at an intersection light. It was driving poorly-making loud noises and sticking as I pressed the gas pedal as if the transmission was going out. We were told it was covered under the powertrain warranty and we took it in to Ford. They told us it was the timing chain but because there was evidence of sludge, the warranty claim was denied by Ford. They claim we did not maintain our vehicle. We believe it is a defect in the system. We have maintained the oil on a regular basis and have had other major repairs with this car. It has had a new transmission at 35,000 as well as a new suspension system and electrical failure with the stereo/dvd system. There has never been any prior evidence of sludge. An accident could have occurred when the car stalled.

3 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/18/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the transmission made a knocking noise and when traveling at low speeds and lunged forward. While slowing down to 15 mph to make a right turn, the vehicle jerked forward and when driving straight and slowing down, it would continue to jerk after an attempt to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the plate assembly/drive plate and the screen assembly were replaced. The problem was not remedied by the repairs. The contact was driving in reverse out of the garage when the vehicle began pulling in reverse. The vehicle also pulled back 6 feet when in the park position. When the tow truck arrived, the vehicle exhibited the identical failure while it was in park. The dealer informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,035. The current mileage was approximately 35,000.

4 Transmission Noise problem of the 2003 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/21/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Expedition. While driving 50mph, the vehicle began to hesitate after making a loud noise. After describing the symptoms to the dealer via phone, he stated that the failure appeared to be the transmission. The noise is getting progressively worse. The warranty has expired. The dealer is diagnosing the failure today. The current mileage was 93000 and the failure mileage was 92900.

5 Transmission Noise problem of the 2004 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/19/2005

I dropped my kids off at school then headed for work taking the freeway. Traffic began to build so I had slowed down to about 20 miles per hour (mpr), when I tried to accelerate the vehicle would only reach 30 miles per hour. I was in the far right lane so I took the next exit off the freeway. I put it in “park then tried to drive again but it still would not go pass 30 mpr or go in reverse so I called road side assistance and had it towed to the nearest dealership. There was no noise or any indication that something was wrong. Luckily I wasn’t trying to change lanes when the transmission went out, I would have gotten hit. The service manager told me that the “sun gear had broken.

6 Transmission Noise problem of the 2000 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 01/04/2004

Prior to the replacement of the original tires purchased on the vehicle due to the safety recall of tires, I had no apparent problems with my transmission or rear suspension. Immediately following the tire replacement I noticed a scrubbing or dragging noise. The vehicle was immediately returned to the Ford dealership and questioned as to why the vehicle was now making a noise that was not there before. I was told that the tires were a little larger than the original ones and that the noise would subside. The noise did not. The vehicle was taken back again and I asked what was wrong with the Expedition because the noise was very annoying and appeared to get worst. I was worried that the rear suspension was having problems. The Expedition was placed on the rack and examined by the same Ford dealership, I was told that there was nothing wrong. The noise continued and then the transmission began to experience problems. We took the transmission to have it flushed and then started experiencing increased problems almost immediately after having it flushed. So much so that it was returned to the service department the same day because we thought maybe they had forgotten to put something back together. We were referred to a transmission repair shop to check. At that time, the transmission service repair man said that he had never seen anything like it on his machine. When we returned home, we noticed that the problem appeared to worsen so we did not drive the exp for about a month hoping that we would be able to research the problem and find someone else who had experienced and fixed it. To no avail, we did not. The exp will not even move anymore. These problems did not occur until the tires were replaced.
