Had to replace all 4 tires on vehicle after 14,888 miles - signs of tread separation on two of the tires - vehicle purchased and licensed in arkansas but being driven by son in navy stationed at afb in oklahoma city. Vehicle purchased in late spring of 2000 -- lots of miles (avg. Nearly 800 miles per week) mostly on highway at speeds of 70 mph. When son brought home had to hold steering wheel tightly with two hands at all times to adequately maintain control of vehicle. Called local firestone dealer to inspect and they refused since tires were not part of recall so had all tires replaced. Firestone tires are included in recall 00t005, consumer is disappointed that she is on a back order list and has yet to receive replacement tires.
After contacting 4 retailers I was told it would be spring before the tires could be replaced. The waiting list is over 247 customers. I have been told that I can purchase the tires myself and then get reimbursed in 6 to 8 weeks. This will probably take much longer and I will carry the interest on cedit for at leased 3 to 4 months. Also what kind of replacement can you get for $100. 00 including mounting and balancing. Each company involved is blaming the other for the problem. What this amounts to is that the end user is getting the shaft. I believe firestone should be held accountable. I would never purchase one of their products. Maybe their future will prove to be as short lived as their customers rolling down our highways. ( dot number: vd tire size: 235 ).

I would like just to say that on interstate I 15 in California, that between barstow and baker, there are alot of tire treads along side the road, and I though maybe this could be some sort of help in investiaging the firestone tires. Just a though.

As I have a vehicle equipped with firestone wilderness at tires I am concerned that I might encounter a problem int he future. I understand that firestone is planning on announcing a "limited" recall to owners of the tires located in southern areas. My present driving habits are mainly travelling on the highway at speeds between 55 - 65 mph for extended periods of time. This along with what I consider a lower tire pressure stated by the manufacturer of 26 lbs, I beleive this can cause the tires to have more stress on the sidewalls while travelling and with highway speeds could possibly cause the heating& buldging of the tires causing more stress on the sidewalls. Presently my vehicle has only 7750 miles on the odemeter, I hope the NHTSA persues firestone in the recalling of all wilderness at tires in all regions of the country not just the "southern" parts. ( dot number: ).
How many must die before NHTSA steps up to this disaster? this is unexcusable! no safety defect listed within summary. ( dot number: ).
Pe02000; tire tread separation: while driving about 30 mph, tire on passenger's front side went flat for no reason. Tire was taken to berekley tire dealership. This was a firestone, wilderness tire, original equipment. Please list VIN #, tire size/dot # and date of incident.
I amd concerened about the firestone wilderness tires on my Ford Explorer. There was an article in my newspaper today (8/4/00) about 21 deaths and 193 crashes with these tires involved. I have thes tires on my Ford Explorer and I sure don't want to have these tires fail. What's it going to take and how many more people are going to have to die before something is done? these tires need to be recalled! the atricle said Ford was replacing these tires free in 6 other countries. Does that mean that they're not doing that in the u. S. That's outrageous and ridiculous. I called Ford's customer service 800 number and they said I'd have to call firestone. I did and didn't get any satisfaction from them. Who can I call at Ford to find out why we can't get them replaced here? ( dot number: tire size: p235/75 r1 ).
My new vehicle has the firestone tires that have caused numerous deaths and a magnitude of accidents. With serious injury. I contacted my local Ford dealer that sold me the car and they didn't even know about the problem. The next day the dealer called me and said that they are giving out firestones phone number for inquires. I now have two numbers for firestone to which both remain busy all the time. So I am unable to contact them. On the front page of the USA today newspaper dated 8/2/2000 it reports that 31 people have been killed by these tires bursting. It reports that in 6 other countries Ford motor CO recalled the tires. I need assistance imediately as I am afraid to use my vehicle. I can not take the chance of having my grad kids killed by faulty tires. I am also in the process of taking my mother each day for radiation 50 miles away. I need my vehicle imediately. I need to know what is going to be done for the citizens of the united states about these tires. Does Ford motor CO care more about citizens of other countries than american citizens??? please contact me imediately, as there is no way that I will ever get firestone on the telephone ,,, and the booklet that came with the car does not give an address for firestone. Thank you. ( dot number: tire size: 15 inch ).
While traveling 40mph heard a loud boom. Maintained control of vehicle. Pulled over and stopped vehicle. Called triple "a" after noticing rubber had seared and melted on left rear tire. Consumer discovered that two of the firestone at p235/75r15 tires were apart of the recall, consumer replaced the tires and was assured by firestone that she would receive 100% reimbursement for the replacement tires, consumer states she has not received any reimbursement and feels she is getting the runaround from Ford and firestone.
