On a 2013 Ford Explorer, the shift lock release keeps getting stuck and car is unable to shift into gear with out manually moving the release pump. This is after car is in park.
I drove this vehicle cross country, while towing a truck on trailer, back while towing a trailer, and again with a u-haul from las vegas to virginia (up steep grades, and through the mountains, engine under quite a load, while in the summer, using a/c) I got a headache and nauseau. My daughter and nephew, who were passengers, did as well. I got sleepy behind the wheel (this doesn't happen to me and has never happened to me). You can smell the exhaust. I installed a carbon monoxide detector, and it has gone off twice. Ford has done some "fixes" including reprogramming a/c. Well, if you use the buttons, instead of the touch screen, you can unknowingly override this reprogramming. They did not tell me this. I go through the gears in the manual mode and drive this hard. You can still smell exhaust and get symptoms. Borrow a fire fighters "sniffer" and drive the vehicle hard and watch the readout. It cant possibly take this long or be that difficult to resolve this investigation. You can even put a carbon monoxide detector in the vehicle and watch-simple. Go through the gears manually, red-lining the vehicle you will get the smell and symptoms. Drive the vehicle hard up a steep grade, you will get the symptoms. Tow with the vehicle up a grade, you will get the smell and symptoms, all with a/c on recirculate. Less so with out it being on recirculate. This has happened form the first trip of 09/07/2015 to current.
Purchased my 2013 Ford Explorer limited with 50 miles on it in November 2012. During 2015 had a strong mold smell, upon investigation found approximately 3'' of water in my spare tire storage area, 3rd row seat shoulder belt wet and carpet under 3rd row seat passenger side soaked. Took to Ford dealership while under warranty on 4-27-2015 / 32,002 miles, had 17 days. Took in under warranty 6-25-2015 with 34,460 miles, had 4 days. Took in 3-11-16 with 44,501 miles, dealership sent vehicle to their bodyshop for 4 days. Took to dealership 2-14-18 they sent it off sight to jr's automotive to repair water leak. Took to dealership 1-20-19 for exact same issue that I have had for approximately 5 years, found water in vehicle same area 2 days later. In the approximately last 5 years I have had 2 cases opened with "Ford customer relations center"as described in the manual that came with the vehicle plus filed a claim with bbb when it was apparent that I would never get off of the merry-go-round with Ford. Bbb turned me down base on too many miles on vehicle which remember is not a mechanical issue but a weather dependent issue. I could have taken vehicle to dealership dozen of times during this period but because of inconvenience without a vehicle and working 12 hour shift work it was just impracticable. All issues with water inside of vehicle was when I checked it after it was parked and of course with rain or melted snow involved and on a city street.
My 2013 Ford Explorer (limited) spontaneously locked while my 9 month old daughter was in the car with the keys. My wife had just put my daugther in the car with her purse, which had the vehicle keys inside. After she closed the door to walk to the driver's side, the vehicle locked, and would not open. All published vehicle owner's manuals/documentation clearly state that this should never happen. Further, the vehicle has built in mechanisms to safeguard against this scenario which also failed. With the keys in the vicinity of the car, you should be able to touch the door handle to unlock the vehicle. Nothing we tried would unlock the car. We live in a hot climate, so the car was well over 120 degrees. We called the fire department to break in (broken window, and door). After bringing this up with Ford, they've done nothing to fix the problem. They claim it's not their fault, or responsiblity to investigate further, and there is nothing they can do. I was lucky help was close by, however, under different circumstances, this could have been far more tragic.
My panoramic sunroof exploded!! I was sitting in my vehicle, parked in the driveway and heard a loud noise. I got out and checked the tires and around my vehicle. I saw nothing unusual so I got back in, turned the air off and that's when I discovered it was the sunroof. I heard crackling of glass. Got back out and stepped in the back passenger door and looked on top - it had cracked in the shape of an x with a small pop up right in the center. It was obvious that nothing had hit the glass because I was parked in my driveway and the glass was pushed upward instead of inward. I took numerous pictures of the vehicle sitting in my driveway right after this happened. Drove it to the nearest dealership, within a half hour, as per the service mgr. For pre approval of warranty coverage. It was denied twice. Ford's response for denial of warranty coverage : " as per section 3 of the warranty and policy manual, damaged glass (stone chips, scratches, etc. ) is not considered a warrantable condition unless as related to another defective component. The loud noise as described by the customer has generally been found to be the time in which the glass is impacted in other similar cases. The point of impact to the glass is the place in which the glass is broken and bowed upward (bow upward due to interior cabin pressure is slightly greater than ambient pressure when windows are up and the hvac system is running. ) unfortunately, this broken glass is considered to be damage that can not be covered under the new vehicle warranty at this time. " 23 days later. . . My $40k vehicle is still damaged and sitting in my garage b/c this is an ongoing issue with these panoramic sunroofs exploding. Ford can not keep up with the demand for replacement glass. I pray someone, especially a child is not injured or even worse killed by this defect.
