My Explorer had been parked in my driveway for well over 15 hours when I heard my neighbor screaming. The SUV was fully ignited into flames. Just out of no where. I was able to get the fire out with my water hoses before the gotta department showed up but the entire vehicle is ruined and half my garage as well. The fire started down by the brakes and the entire vehicle was engolfed within seconds. Obviously it was electrical. Upon further investigation I believe it was the cruise control switch malfunction. My SUV had 134,000 miles on it and kept in immaculate condition. I will download the fire departments report once to get it. Johnhensman722@gmail. Com.

The wipers will randomly turn on even if the switch is off. I have found that I have to turn the wipers on to the highest setting then immediately turn them off you get the wipers to stay off. My second problem is the air bag warning light will turn on at random times while driving. I can go weeks or months with out it turning on but I can also go weeks with it staying on 24/7. I have taken it to a Ford dealer to be looked at and the answer I got was we are not sure why it's doing it but just put a towel on the dash to keep it from getting hot and that should fix it maybe. I have found that while driving if my wife turns around to get/give something to our child the light will turn on when she fully sits back down.
"takata recall"I brought the truck and the airbag light was flashing 4x4 lights flashing also, smelling oil coming from the deferential on the back axle. Now, the transmission started slipping and he changed a part . Then, the transmission started to slip again. Also,I wanted to switch to another vehicle but he declined it . He said " he put to much work into the truck and all the parts are new in which only the tires and muffler was revolved ".

My wife was driving our 2012 Ford Explorer down the highway when the steering went stiff (power steering went off), causing the vehicle to swerve into the other lane, after which the terrain management system fault light came on. I happened to be in our other car following directly behind her and was able to watch the incident happen. She immediately slowed down and steered the vehicle to the side of the road. I switched vehicles with her and drove the Explorer to our house, with no additional trouble. After restarting the vehicle, the fault light was no longer on. Our vehicle is at the dealer now, and they could not find any issues. . Read more...

Airbag light switched on, as a result of pre-tensioner failure from movement of the passenger seat. This also happened twice to a friend of mine with a 2002 Explorer. Abs light sensor failed. ** jb.
Airbag light lights up off and on with no reason. Dealership was no help.
The cruise control switch shorted out. Sometimes it would work and then other times it would not work, and finally quit working altogether. Had it replaced by mechanic, had not contacted dealer or the manufacturer. Cruise control failed on June 1, 2005. The clockspring failed and caused the horn to activate intermittently.

Consumer stated the vehicle was struck on the passenger side and rolled over. There were two passengers inside of the vehicle one was seriously injured and the second had less serious injuries due to the air bags not deploying on either side. The air bag switch was on.
When starting up vehicle air bag light remains on until vehicle is turned off. Have been to dealer for repairs several times. Consumer also statred the turn signals and hazard lights were inoperative, dealer replaced the multi-function switch, also there was an unusual noise coming from the engine compartment, and there was also smoke coming from the upper steeing column.
While driving down highway at approx 45mph switched lane to the right hand, and another vehicle came out from the consumer's right, swerved back over to another lane to avoid hitting consumer's vehicle. But, instead vehicle rear ended consumer's car. Neither airbag deployed. Also, inertia switch failed. Contacted dealer.

The main computer was shut down due to a faulty ignition switch. This failure may be the cause of other electrical components to fail. The airbag connectors were cracked under passenger seat causing failure. Vehicle has been taken to dealer 4-5 times.
The absence of a driver side airbag disable switch has failed the safety standards of the country, morally. I am appauled the manufacturers won't recall these vehicles, or give owners the option for free disable switches to be installed. In addition, with all the reports of deaths to infants and teens with driver side airbags, I'm insulted that I need my governments permission to install a disable switch to protect my family. This is a design defect, everyone knows it. The manufacturer is responsible. It should be a massive recall. Nhtsa should mandate all manufacturers to retrofit all vehicles with passenger side airbags with disable switches. It's the right thing to do. Concern about air bag on-off switch. Added on 09-07-1999.

Knob for rear window wiper. Master switch to unlock doors. Air bag light.
In Jan, 1999 I received authorization for installation of an on-off switch for the driver airbag. I found an auto shop who will install the switch, yet Ford refuses to provide the shop with the switch. Since Jan, 1999 they have said there is a three week backup on parts, and they have been stalling for eight months. Since Ford created a life-threatening situation by intalling air-bags without the switches they are obliged to now provide consumers with the necessary equipment to rectify the situation. Ford's reckless delay tactic is criminal.
Unable to have air bag on/off switch installed, part not available.
Consumer recieved authorization to have installation of air bag on-off switches for the drivers and passenger side airbags, Ford denied request and now consumer wants air bag disconnected. Nlm.
