1 Warning Light On problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/27/2021

Our instrument panel airbag light turned on intermittently since 2026. Ford was unable to diagnose an issue until March 27, 2021. The warning light has remained illuminated while in the repair shop. They found a fault code and it is attributed to TSB 16-0001. We are now responsible for an almost $1,000 repair bill ($150 diagnosis charge and $800+ repair). The repair is due to faulty wiring connections. Our airbags are now supposedly inoperable.

2 Warning Light On problem of the 2016 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 12/01/2020

There is an srs airbag warning light on the dashboard that used to intermittently display. Now it is on consistently when the vehicle is driven. It is due to a circuit failure or a broken cord leading to the driver side middle row seatbelt airbag. Directly from site: https://Ford. Oemdtc. Com/1203/air-bag-warning-light-illuminated-with-dtc-b141b-b141c-2014-2016-Ford-explorer TSB 16-0001 air bag warning light illuminated with diagnostic trouble code (dtc) b141b and/or b141c this is not normal wear and tear but a safety item design by Ford that has failed in the vehicle. Ford dealership claims that this is not warranty failure. But sounds like an electrical and safety issue to me. . . Which should be covered under warranty. The truth to the matter is. . . Ford does not care that a potentially high risk problem has been identified as a failure on the company's end but they don't care enough to do anything about it. Well. . Other than charge the customer close to $1000 out of pocket to fix for a poor design on Ford's end. The Ford dealership service department does not know how this safety feature broke. If we were to get in an accident while the airbag is in this state, it would not deploy and the lives of all passengers in jeopardy!.

Dealer also stated when the airbag light is on no airbags will deploy in event of accident.

5 Warning Light On problem of the 2016 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 06/05/2020

There is an airbag warning light on the dashboard. It is due to a circuit failure or a broken cord leading to the driver side middle row seatbelt airbag. This is not normal wear and tear but a safety item design by Ford that has failed in the vehicle. The Ford dealership service department does not know how this safety feature broke. 6 Warning Light On problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/28/2020

I bought this veh. In 2016 when it had 17,000 miles on it. Within 2 weeks I got a warning light for the air bag system. Took it to the dealer and was advised that the sensor giving trouble was in the seat belt airbag for the rear passenger seat. I was repaired under warranty for technical service bulletin TSB-0001 published January, 2016. I have had trouble off and on ever since with the airbag warning light. It would stay on for a little while and then go off. I had the dealer check it and they could not find a problem without the light being on. This week it stayed on so I had the dealer check it. It had the code b141b which was the same code repaired in 2016. Since the repair was warranteed for 12 months the dealer wants $797 to fix the current issue, which is the same one from 2016. I very seldom use the back seat as I have no children in my house. I would rather not spend that money, since I am retired, but if I don't get it fixed all of the other air bags in the vehicle will not work. I confirmed with a service advisor that none of the airbags in the vehicle would deploy if that light is on. I asked him if there was a way to by-pass it in the system so the light would go off and he said it is a fmvss that could not be modified and must be fixed the right way. I feel like I am being held hostage in an unsafe vehicle unless I pay the $797 to get it fixed (again).

9 Warning Light On problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 01/12/2020

The air bag warning light turns on for no reason.

10 Warning Light On problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 12/26/2019

The airbag warning light came on without warning or incident (no accident or impact, just started my car one day and the light stayed on). Per research done online with same warning light, make and model of vehicle, issue appeared to be with the rear/2nd row seat belt airbags disengaging and this causes none of the airbags to work in the vehicle in the event of a crash. At the time the light initially came on I had about 72k miles on my car, and it appears this is about the same mileage of all other Explorer owners with this issue. I took it in for service for the light and incurred repairs totaling just under $1,000 to have the parts replaced and the airbags function again. The fact that I did nothing (other than turn on my car when it was approaching the 70-75k mileage mark) to cause malfunction of the airbags but had to pay $1,000 to fix it and have airbags work in my car in the event of an accident is disappointing. Ford needs to issue a recall for this, it's unacceptable to have owner and passenger safety compromised through no fault of the owner, and have to incur costly repairs to make this right. I kept my receipts available to prove cause and cost of airbag light issue.

11 Warning Light On problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 10/15/2019

Airbag warning light came on around 65k miles.

12 Warning Light On problem of the 2016 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 10/05/2019

The airbag warning light has illuminated again and we contacted the local Ford dealership in wasilla alaska to report the issue but they remain unhelpful. The quickest appoint is a month away and my wife uses this vehicle for transporting my children to and from school/appointment and basic everyday needs. The airbag light often illuminates when the vehicle is stationary and first appeared when the vehicle hit 34000 miles. I contacted the Ford dealership then, but they said there was nothing to be done unless the light remained on. It appeareds periodically, often when the vehicle is stationary, but also when its being driven. I contacted the dealership and got the same unconcern response. Appointments are often months away and the dealership often dismiss the issue and show no urgency or interest in finding out the cause. The light diappears after a few shutdowns and restarts, sometimes for weeks and months but it has became a common appearence as the vehicle came closer to 38k miles and now 40k miles. Please address the issues or at leadt look into it so Ford can give it the needed attention before myself or someone lose a family member for something that could have been a simple fix. The vehicle is often stationary when the light appear. Sometime its appears when the vehicle is in motion. Base on what I have read from other complaints and from people with the same vehicle model its safe to assume the problem most likely originate from the rear seat, just behind the drivers. If its a wiring issue involving the vehicle safety equipment then this may have the potential for causing a cascade and catastrophic failure in one or more od the vehicle safety features. I will include a picture of the most recent appearence of the airbag light. Started about 18 months ago when the vehicle was about 34. 5k miles and is becoming more common now.

14 Warning Light On problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/28/2019

Airbag light came on after the children got buckled into the second-row seat. Upon going to the dealership to find the problem, we were told that it will cost over $800 to repair the seatbelt airbag connections! searching online I found that there was a service bulletin that was issued back in 2015, but it does not seem that a recall has been issued. This seems like a problem that is being experienced by many vehicles and I wanted to point it out to be considered for a recall. Ford Explorer 2014-2016: bulletin information involving vehicles equipped with second row inflatable seat belts may exhibit an airbag warning light illuminated with dtc b141b and b141c.

16 Warning Light On problem of the 2016 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/22/2019

The aiirbag warning light has come on. In taking the car to the dealership, this was traced back to Ford's error code dtc b141b and/or b141c. This error code has to do with Ford installing a defective wiring harness for the rear seat inflatable airbags and could cause them to fail to operate during a collision. The dealership (sheehy Ford, midlothian, va) refuses to repair the vehicle. I also contacted Ford motor company twice (5/29/19 and in April 2019) and they also refuse to repair the vehicle despite it being an obvious safety defect that should be covered under their safety restraint warranty. The fact that Ford is refusing to stand behind the safety of their vehicle has me concerned.

The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 52,000.

Airbag warning light on 2015 Explorer came on (has been some time). Took to dealer several years ago and was told it was a known issue, would require tracing down wiring costing thousands of dollars and was not worth us doing. I don't understand how a dealer (Ford) can dismiss this safety issue.

23 Warning Light On problem of the 2014 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 03/03/2018

The airbag warning light has been on for approximately a month and finally had a chance to have Ford troubleshoot the cause while in for the exhaust system recall, as well as having to replace a failed blenddoor motor and look at an automatic tailgate issue. A local Ford dealership identified that the car had a defective airbag restraint control module that is associated with the rear factory wiring harness with the vehicles equipped with rear inflatable seat belts. The car has 61,000 miles. The warranty expired at 60,000. I bought it certified pre owned but unfortunately the bumper to bumper coverage is only 12 months or 12,000 miles and I've had it for 14 months. Ford informed me that it is a known issue but will not submit a recall on this known failed srs component design and will cost me over $550 to fix. They have an internal technical bulletin with the corrective action as a new factory designed wiring harness. I am completely at a loss that this is a safety issue and well known, yet Ford refuses to recall.

26 Warning Light On problem of the 2011 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/11/2017

My car has about 95k miles. Currently it is in the shop getting 2 things done. A part is ordered for air bag. I've had several airbag issues needed service. My biggest concern is the power steering unit. I bought the car new from diblasio in 2012 w/ about 7k miles on it. I have extended warranty from Ford. Sept 2016 the original power steering unit failed and was replaced. 14 months later the replacement has now failed and is being replaced! the warning light came on while my wife was driving on the highway. Thank god!!!!! the power assist did not fail or she could have been killed. When I started the car the next time there was no power steering. I had the car towed to dealer. I no longer trust this car. The ps unit is a critical part of the vehicle. I have never owned a car that had a similar problem once, yet twice. With the second time taking only 14 months to fail. I call Ford corporate and told them about the situation and that I no longer trust the car. Looking online, I see articles about a ps unit recall in the 2014s. I don't recall ever receiving a notice about my vehicle and only brought it in when it started acting odd in 2016. Ford asked me what I wanted them to do. At this point I said I no longer want the car and do not want to sell it to someone with what I know and fear. I thought Ford should buy it back from me at a reasonable price and I will get a different vehicle. I was put on hold for show and the person came back and said they were sorry there is nothing they can do and that any time there is a problem I should bring it to the dealer. I am disgusted with Ford and I don't know what my options are. I need help please. I fear anyone driving this car once I get it back tomorrow.

28 Warning Light On problem of the 2015 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 08/16/2017

On-going airbag warning light issue for 2 years (amber light on dashboard). The issue started in August, 2017 at about 38k miles and is still happening at about 55k miles. Ford dealership attempted to repair the same issue 7 times but the light is back on 8th time. Contacting manufacturer directly was useless as they just tell me to take the vehicle to dealership for repair and that no other option is available.

29 Warning Light On problem of the 2011 Ford Explorer

30 Warning Light On problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 05/31/2017

On may 31, 2017, I was involved in a collision in which my 2013 Ford Explorer struck a red light runner at approximately 35 - 40 mph. My vehicle sustained significant front end damage. So much so, it's a total loss. The most alarming detail is that my airbags didn't deploy at the time of the accident!! neither the driver side nor the passenger side. I know that Ford has a number of recalls in regards to defective airbags but I couldn't find anything in regards to the 2013 Ford Explorer even though there have been a number of complaints. Ford really needs to look into these defective airbags within this model before someone is killed or severely injured. No warning lights, no airbag lights, etc. . . Ford is even refusing to send a "rep" to where my vehicle is being held to conduct an inspection of it. . .
